Jason was awesome in Metallica, jason is an awesome bass player and musician
and a performer
Obviously non musicians or perpetual intermediates here. As a bass player Jason is adequately one dimensional. Not a hit in him...just an undeniable musical truth.
@@djshad1885 If you're actually a musician, you'll know that timing and feel are the most important qualities that a bassist needs. Jason has both to spare, and was a great songwriter to boot.
@@djshad1885 nah he has a groovy style and a nice bass tone that was really ahead of his time- or at least a trend setter. He def ain’t one dimensional because he wasn’t playing 100% speed metal flotsam and jetsam stuff his whole career.
Good in Flotsam and Jetsam Too.
Load and Reload are both so well-rounded, dark, moody. It's hard-edge enough to be heavy, but the emotional journey it takes you on is indescribable. The production is impeccable. The mix in my opinion is some of the best they've ever done, beats all the earlier albums by miles. That late 90s early 2000s era of their guitar tone is by far my favourite. Can't beat a Roland JC-120.
I agree the production is some of their best but it should have been rounded off to one album. There is too much filler on either record to make them great. Also Jason only co wrote 3 songs in his entire career in the band which goes to show it wasn't or ever has been a democracy. It's all James' songs with Lars arranging! I don't think any of the others have ever contributed any lyrics except Cliff.
Then there’s the album covers 😢
Both boring. James Hetfield agrees with me..
@@phadrus If I'm being honest when these albums released I was a kid, the cover art to me always resembled fire which I always liked. I later learned the truth, James from what I heard hates them. I tend to agree however they have some alternate feeling to them which I like, this also may be some nostalgia.
@@tiborosz1825 In terms of the music itself? I doubt Hetfield agrees with that, I know he's definitely been sarcastic when people talk about these albums however I've never seen him seriously say they're boring or anything similar. I actually feel James has a very strong connection with quite a few tracks from these albums, one which he very rarely ever talks about. They both in my opinion are most certainly not boring, having that opinion only seems to me that you have a very short ear for listening to anything remotely progressive what so ever. Yes I do consider these albums to have a somewhat progressive atmosphere. I may be wrong and please correct me if so.
I picked up a bass because of Jason. 23 years later I’m still trying to master some of his bass lines. Thanks for posting this.
He uses a pick (the only of the 3 to do so) and he also does KILLER backing vocals. The guy is simply awesome.
"still trying to master some of his bass lines" - AJFA, right?
@@igorg1885 you never listened to And Justice For Jason? That album sounds way better with bass.
@@flightofthebumblebee9529 but the sound is still awful imo.. Don't know how they managed to do it, comparing to 2 previous albums
lol his bass lines are crazy easy
This man is the reason I play bass. He's a master, love seeing any contributions he got to bring to metallica and to other bands.
I know a lot of people didn't like Load and Reload when they came out, but I loved them immediately as a kid, and still do to this day. Great albums.
same here i loved both albums
Where the wild things are is one of the coolest Metallica songs ever. Fuck I love these albums
I loved the Load era. Was happy how their song Inamorata has that Load-vibe. They've written a ton of material during that time, and yes I know a lot of that got hashed up and released in other stuff, but it would be sweet to have an EP of some cut songs from that era released...
LOAD is very underrated, one of the best of the 90's, change has to happen.
No. Pantera kept metal alive in the 90s. Those were dark times for music with all the alternative and grunge bullshit. Fuck change.
Obviously you weren't paying attention to what was happening in Europe back then..
@@adriantrusca1245 Pantera CHANGED too, great southern trendkill was a very diverse album, Metallica still sounded like them selves anyway, same band members.
@@joesmith9216 They turned into a rock band. 😂😅
@@joesmith9216 yeah, Carpe Diem Baby sounds exactly like the band that played The Frayed Ends Of Sanity indeed
Love these albums. The outlaw torn and fixxxer are 2 of my favorite metallica songs.
Some of my favorite tunes.
You have poor taste. Old school thrash is were it's at.
Jason brought so much energy and connected so much with the fans. Not to mention he has awesome vocals something they have never had since.
I missed Jason alot and I still do, but I think the band is giving Robert some room to move now. He doing some backing vocals and his bass lines on 72 Seasons are great. Hopefully we'll be seeing much more input from him in the coming releases. Honestly, though, Jason is still my favorite bass guitarist of Metallica.
I wasnt a fan of either album, but I could see that they were group albums. Where previously James had used his guitar as the entire band, and then dictated what the rest were to play, you can hear that they all sat down together and wrote songs. It's just a shame that Hetfields ego and addictions woudn't allow it to continue.
I loved 80s Metallica but as soon as I heard Load, I found myself in the Slayer camp.
The crazy thing is, you're allowed to like both lol
@@cotopaximusic And also allowed to like Metallica before and after the Black Album!
Oh you’re one of those…
A beast among musicians, both in the studio and especially on stage.
Load and Reload were phenomenal
Love those albums.
For younger metallica fans it might be hard to understand but i saw metallica twice on the black album tour and newsted was just awsome live great energy and i loved his bass playing he had his own style and i dont think that metallica could have found a better fit after cliff died i miss him in the band...and i gotta say as the years has gone by i really like load and reload there is some great stuff on there
Loved load album. Bluesy as hell😊
How bluesy is hell? Is hell bluesy at all? Does the devil play BB King licks?
I'm more curious about what he thinks of the style of songwriting, I think he mentioned before he remembers more about creating the songs than if he enjoys all of them.
The most appropriately named albums ever.
When I first heard Load & Reload, it took some time to like them but I feel both albums are great.
Let's face it , Jason was older than James and Lars . He was too ambitious for Metallica to keep down in the pecking order that's why Jason quit . It's pretty clear this is why James and Lars removed Jason's Bass Parts in AJFA and weren't going to give him a lot of Writing Credit opportunities in the 90s . They didn't want another Dave Untamed Mustang Situation that way .
What??? Metallica had been outselling Madonna and Michael Jackson. He had no ambition. That’s why he has done nothing much since… while Dave started the second or third best thrash band ever. You are imagining a reality that doesn’t exist.
@@Xplora213 You completely misunderstood my point by miles . That wasn't even the angle I was refering to . You're also mistaking Jason with Kirk . Kirk is the guy for the last 40 Years that has had the Scraps at the Metallica Table . He is just sitting in the back seat throwing out some Riffs here and there to Contribute but he knows his place . If he tries to lead Metallica his days are numbered. James and Lars have always been the Don Henley / Glenn Frey Leaders of Metallica . There Voices are the loudest in Power . Rob has been a Passenger for 20 Years too . Jason was held back a lot by James and Lars from being a Primary Writer Leader with them . They never saw him in that role like Cliff had been . So Jason started doing Side Projects in his last days with the Band. That's called Ambition to lead his own thing instead of being a Passenger of the Metallica Train . He wanted more respect as a Artist from James and Lars . It obviously didn't work . He didn't get it from James and Lars . So Jason Quit the Band . Jason did start his own Band called "Newsted" for a bit and put out a pretty good Album . Dave Mustang was a Problem because of his Ambitions in Metallica . He has said himself he is an Alpha . He isn't a Good Follower . He wanted to lead the Band and be Primary Writer / Earner in the Band . James and Lars never had any intentions of giving Dave that much Power from 1981 - 1983 . They never recorded any Album with him and booted him out of the Band to no surprise really .
@@Mysterio-hk9gj I like Kirk’s riffs more than James honestly…
@@Mysterio-hk9gj have you seen what Jason did since Metallica? Absolutely nothing. And it’s sad but he made his money and is living a good life. But that’s all he did.
@@provisionalhypothesis I know he’s been involved in multiple projects and bands since. Sadly… nothing interesting to speak of. I knew about them all, as they happened. Absolutely nothing you would consider noteworthy considering his talent and support from the Metallica fans. 🤷♂️
I love Load and Reload. I don't understand the hate.
I hate Load and Reload. I don’t understand the love.
Most Metallica fans Love the mid 80s trilogy. Load isn’t that. It’s not the same genre. The VERY small number of sales compared to the other albums which were underground music simply proves that no one really liked Load and Reload.
LOAD is amazing
what was this interview from??
I told my cousin what the artist used for the cover art on load and he was shocked! 😂
Bleeding Me - Outlaw Torn - Fixxxer
Load was awesome.
Basically they did what all other regular bands do (ie play together). In Metallica world, it becomes a thing as until this album Kirk and Jason (even more) were considered session players with the exception that Kirk got to have some songwriting credits here and there.
Cliff and Rob are more talented when it comes to playing bass guitar but Jason Newsted is the best bassist Metallica ever had, and by far the best backing vocalist too.
I don’t understand this comment. Can you explain to me how Jason was better for Metallica than Cliff Burton?
2 of my fave Metallica albums! Both in my top 5 Metallica albums. Load being my 2nd fave! These 2 albums are so much deeper, more filled, more darker and atmospheric. So much more added detail to the songs. It felt like they were really taking their music to another level as composers and James with his vocals. Too bad they chose to strip it all down again. I got some of it back with Hardwired, hopefully even more with 72 Seasons! So far so good a song like "If Darkness had a son".
Fully agreed. They explored a much wider range of guitar techniques and song structures in Load and Reload. Best lyrics Hetfield ever wrote. And I'm also happy that Hardwired and 72 Seasons have elements of the 90s albums in them. Super excited for Friday!
@@ReekeMoyel I haven't been this excited for a new metallica album since before the release of ReLoad! Been a long time since I felt this way about a Metallica release haha! Hopefully it is a classic!
Compared to their previous albums, Load and Re-Load were quite the curveballs and tested the listeners expansion from the status quo "Metallica". The 2 albums (Load/Re-Load) are supposed to represent the time they are in personally. Their a group of artists and making the same shit all the time is boring.
90s were just bad for metal in general. All the grunge stuff and cross over stuff was more popular and Metallica was touring with who Days of News and Jerry Cantrell? so they were probably influenced by all that in times
I love a band for its style, if they change it i could even not like it and stop listening to them.
Is it that hard to understand?
@@duncanohoge they didnt succeed, the live set was always more about their first albums and with st Anger they basically tried to make a step back to an heavier sound, failing their experiment.
Still today people want to listen to their earlier work.
Load was a good album. Wasn’t too much into Reload but had I seen the road ahead I would have loved it more lol
As i'm growing older, the more i like esspecialy load, the sound, lyrics, vibe is just awesome. 1. Ride/master 2. Justice 3. Load 4. Kill 5. Black 6. Hardwired 7. Reload 8. Death 9. St. Anger. My chart :)
I like Load more than Reload. It feels less generic and each song has its own identity. Fixxxer and Low Man’s Lyric are great though.
it's hard to make songs if you're "only" bass player,....especially in the guitar driven band,...beside in that period he was more on the "hard" side of music (sepultura, machine head,....) compared to others who were trying out u2 version of metallica.....no harm there,....load/reload are perfect albums for what they supposed to be or are
*King nothing* is super cool. *Where the wild things are* make me feel emotions. Usually when I'm alone it feels like I'm a kid again I can't explain it.
How did you make the titles appear bolder?
Stop, did he say Kirk played Rhythm guitar for the first time in a Metallica álbum? 😲 Who can confirm this?
its true there is no kirk in nothing else matters since james plays the solo :D
It’s true. Hetfield laid down and doubled all of the rhythm tracks on the first five albums while Kirk laid down his lead and secondary guitar parts afterwards.
I've heard it elsewhere
Every fan...
It's on all those albums liner notes
Imagine how good the album would have been if they took the best songs off each album and released one album.
Unload
@@maximummatt73 Deload
@@89kilemal Butt-Load
@@maximummatt73 wow
He played best in the group so they jealousy dissed him.
Really wished they would have done one album that was really polished instead of two mediocre albums.
Jason filled the gap that Cliff's unfortunate death created, and had it not been for James' issues he wouldn't have to part ways with Metallica. Unfortunately, the fans give him so much hatred; I am not the one to say whether he is as talented as Cliff and Robert but during live performances he killed it. Frankly speaking, live performances when people say Creeping Death first thing that comes to mind is Jason and For Whom The Bell Tolls is Cliff.
It’s not “Re-Load”. It’s Reload.
I don’t care what anyone says, I think Load is a phenomenal album. I was 16 when it came out though and absolutely hated it beyond belief haha
I had just turned 16 when it came out. Felt completely deflated.
The unforgiven ii> st anger, death magnetic,hardwired.. to self destruct
Reload is pretty sexy too
Agree! I was 15 when Load was released, and at the time I wanted to hear The Black Album part 2. But as years have passed, Load and ReLoad are very well written albums in their own rite.
Haha I was teenager that period. And previous albums felt for me like.. it was from ancient time , when Olympic gods lived, when forests inhabited by elves. Last album released five years ago when I was little kid. And Load was like prophets relevation . And when I cached first single until it sleeps on radio or this cool video on TV it was like little holiday
Load may have not been a thrash album, but it was a very good bluesy, moody album, IMO.

I always loved Load, just short of a masterpiece but really great album. ReLoad was a bit of a whiff.
If Fixxxer was on Load it would be a near-perfect album. But then I guess it would take away too much steam from Reload. Both are spectacular, but Load is definitely the meatier of the two. Imagine if Outlaw Torn went right into Fixxxer to close out the album.
@MattDad84 I like Outlaw more than Fixxxer so Oitlaw feels like the better closer but I'd get rid of Cure and Poor Twisted Me to make room for Fixxxer no question.
Metallica should've continued the path they took with Load.
Then we wouldn't have gotten death magnetic
The rock/radio friendly path you mean?
Load has some awesome songs on it. If they combined load and reload and removed the shit songs, that'd be an amazing album

never got into pop-tallica's country music phase and sure as hell don't get on the old men posers trying to be Metal again phase. then again, Metallica died on that bus in '86.

@UseTheSupeRsonic The end of Holey Wars is the best part.
once jason and kirk had input...albums blow...period
So this is part of the reason Load and Re-Load sucked so much? J/K 😆
While Cliff was the most talented musical genius, and Rob is great in his own regard, Jason had the best stage pressence and backing vocals of the Metallica Bass players.

Load has some good songs on it but ReLoad is just kinda crap. A lot of recycled ideas and directionless songs.
I would never want to be associated with either of these embarrassing albums. The black album was bad enough. Sorry if your opinion differs but we lost an amazing thrash metal band to dollar signs and it makes no sense to see it any other way. The lyrics got boring and typical, the writing became simple and lazy, guitar solos....wtf, thus appealing to the masses as per usual.
Actually, any band would kill to have those albums be theirs. The Black Album was spectacular. The lyrics are the best he's ever written - you think the lyrics to Bleeding Me are worse than Kill Em All, singing about leather pants and headbanging? The writing got far more intricate, with varied song structures and a far broader range of guitar technique, not just downpicking and power chords and lightning fast solos. Basically, every word you said was wrong.
Man you talk so much nd say little
Load is ok but half of Reload is filler garbage
New albums are boring old man crap.
nah.. cmon...these 2 stinkers were abysmal albums. Take the Moniker of "Metallica" off of them & maybe they are generic Hard Rock releases at best.
