Speaker slides on a greasy pole, parliament slides on an embarrassment of hyperbole and nonsense such that the average voter has no clue (or inclination and will pick up the Daily Mail et al, TV) to understand. This is the stuf of soap operas and yet you merely stick it out there as if it's the norm whilst our nation continues to be shafted by policitians from both sides of the house.

Professor emeritus Robert Paxton said :-
"A form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humiliation or victimhood and by compensatory cults of unity, energy and purity, in which a mass-based party of committed nationalist militants, working in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites, abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive violence and without ethical or legal restraints goals of internal cleansing and external expansion."
That might look like a description of the Johnson government and brexit but it is Paxton's textbook political science definition of Fascism.

I’m not saying the current speaker is the best although I think he is very good. When first elected, some thought he’d be a pushover, being a loyal conservative, but the role is one where people grow and he, like Bercow, although less aggressively, is determined to run parliament for all parliamentarians and if not a puppet of this dreadful government. And that’s not easy with ministers consistently first announcing plans to the media.
