  • A3 60103 'Flying Scotsman' heads over the Settle & Carlisle Railway, on the reopening special, which was steam hauled from Oxenhope (Keighley & Worth Valley Railway) and would retrace it's steps back over the S&C for the return. As most of you know the railway has been shut for well over a year due to landslip at Eden Browns. Locations featured in the video were, Stainforth (twice) Helwith Bridge, Angerholm (taken from behind fence) and Ais Gill.
There was really no other choice when it came down to finding a locomotive to commemorate the return of services over this famous line and I was glad to of witnessed the return of steam over the S&C ! I hope you enjoy the coverage.

Superb footage Liam from start to finish one of the best taken on the day. Interesting to see the shot at Angrholm with the new fencing but it looks like with a ladder the shot is still on. Lovely high vantage point at Sheriff Brow will have a look at that next time for a stills. Good to see you on Friday Cheers,Simon.

  • @EnglishVeteran

Very nice video again. Thank you. The weather all week was atrocious but happily improved on Friday. Only the northern part of the line was closed for about 18 months. Normal operation continued to Appleby where there was a coach service to & from Appleby.
Eden Brows (not Browns) was a great work of engineering prowess. There are GPS monitors checking any movement to very high accuracy I am told. It is effectively an enclosed or infilled viaduct. Pity the steel "viaduct" had to be sourced from China! But nevertheless a great engineering job completed in the tradition of The SCR.
A great day & wonderful to see the line fully open again! Other good news is that the closing of Garsdale SB has been delayed until at least 2021. Let's hope they put some paint on this listed SB before it falls apart!

Wonderful video and landscapes, brilliant light too. As for the locomotive, Good to see it running again, however, just me personally, I'd love to see it in its LMS colours, or at least get rid of the two massive plates at the front of it, they remind me of a horse's blinkers. They spoil the look of its 'face'. With a head on shot you don't see them as much.

Excellent vid, but why is the gner hauling lms carriages? I,m being petty all my train sets in my childhood were lms but I loved the colour of the gner and gwr just wish my younger brothers had taken as much care of my model sets as I did but alas when I left home to work away they destroyed my collection even my mother was distraught with the carnage but alas that's what happens when there is a large age difference between siblings

HeavensGremlin hear, hear! There's a documentary on BBC iPlayer at the moment showing her 1968 non-stop run from Kings Cross to Waverley under Alan Pegler's ownership. She looks so much nicer in LNER livery as 4472 than she does now. Her whistle also sounded far better then, too.
