Unknown to me, aside from his work, which I know very well, but yet, the single greatest guest you've ever had. Thank you. I enjoyed Jess from the moment he started talking,
I think that was Chris Walken acknowledging how much work the soundalikes usually have to do and that they have a real talent for voices. In other words, he was being a genuine class act who was respecting someone else's craft.
Of all the Walken impressions I’ve heard, his is the best because it isn’t as much of an exaggeration, and you can see why he gets gigs ADR looping for the sanitized versions of films.
No ego? Do you know the ego you got to have to sit there, dressed like that, and talk about yourself and all the cool shit you've done?! I'm not knocking him at all for its literally an occupational requirement for his chosen profession. You might want to look up the word ego ...but you'd probably see this guy's face as the definition. Maybe you meant he's not an asshole, which is where you'd see my face by the definition. Cheers mate! 🍻
@@steve_anderson Exactly right and anyone thinking its possible to have no ego, has no idea of how nature works. You NEED a balance of ego (the thinking mind) and intuition (the spiritual) etc.
@@EgoShredder He definitely has an ego, but he's definitely no show-off when it comes to his talent. He's the dude who is like 'I'll let my work speak for itself.'
I know right? Now I wanna hear the rest of 'em. Ahh to be a fly on the wall in the Osbourne house when Kelly pops by, and Ozzy is like, "I didn't call you." 🤣🤣🤣
Never heard of this singer, but I enjoyed the interview. Like how you give time and space to let your guest share his stories. You're a class act, Prof!
So, had never really heard of Jess outside of reading the occasional credit on screen. What an incredibly cool individual. He would be a blast to hang out with on a weekend.
Agreed...I was saying to my wife after watching the video that this is a guy you would sit in a sleazy, greasy, diner at 3 in the morning, drinking bad beer with, just to hear his stories.
Had the pleasure of singing Karaoke one night with Jess probably 10 years ago in Florida. His cousin Todd Wilson was the head football coach I worked for in Melbourne Florida. Todd was emphatic about my coming out to meet Jess as he said, you will be blow away at how talented and down to earth Jess is. He was all that and more. His Steve Perry that night had the room in awe! A truly amazing vocalist and voice actor. Awesome to see The Professor of Rock interview this truly talented individual.
I have listened to thousands of interviews in my life, most I tune out due to boredom of questioning or the response from the person being interviewed. This interview I was entranced by the entire interview as it was filled with story after interesting story. Mr. Jess Harnell, thanks for allowing us to see and hear your story. Now I must find your music and your impressions if you have any out there. Dude, your life is so interesting, I must hear more..... And of course, I now have subscribed to THE Professor of Rock. Thanks for this interview.
I almost passed on this because I didn't recognize him, but this interview is legend. Even my wife was calling out all kinds of stuff while I was watching it and she never reacts to anything I watch. Amazing work.
That was one of the best guests ever on Professor of Rock. I LOVE this mega and multitalented guy. Wow! Great singer, Great voice actor, (the best Christopher Walken I've ever heard), Great storyteller, Great personality, but, more importantly, he's a kind, caring, and gracious human being. I was blown away by this guy! Thanks for introducing your audience to him. You found an amazing treasure. Plz have more content with him. 👏👏
So happy to have seen this as I have now discovered Rock Sugar and it sounds amazing! Jess sounds like such a cool guy to hang out with and seems to have many stories to tell - he even said he has story for another time. Would love to watch some more of him and you on this channel! I love shit like this, you would never discover it any other way!
@@schmidington Agreed. A lot of people can do Walken but this was one of the best I've heard. It wasn't OTT or exaggerated for comedy like some are, it was accurate.
What an incredibly talented dude and what a hell of a nice guy. His stories were very interesting. Oh, and by the way.... Steve Perry sometimes takes things too seriously.
Don’t stop the sandman or whatever the journey/Metallica mashup is called was the first rock sugar track I ever heard and, as an experienced and trained singer who has tried to sing journey many times with reasonable success, I was amazed how much he sounded like Steve Perry. I loved hearing how Perry inspired him to become a singer, and still enjoyed the story of how his idol shut him down out, because Jess obviously and understandably takes pleasure in the comparison despite the outcome. I would too! Great stuff
Part of his success is that he can hear the nuances in people’s speaking voices and then mimic them and analyze them and explain the subtleties. His George into Ringo was absolutely mind blowing! I agree with others, please do some more interviews with him. He is awesome. Definitely getting his stuff. Love mashup songs done well!
This must be the best kept secret in rock & roll. This guy Jess is a super talented but humble performer. He sounds grateful for his whole career. Just a kid goofing around in his house with a dream and desire to get out there and perform/show off. Great stories, great interview. Thanks
Wow, Jess is one of the most talented, interesting, and entertaining people I've ever seen. I wish I had one ounce of his amazing gifts. His life has already been incredible, but there is so much more that he is capable of as well.
I had a terrific time watching this video. Genuine joy. Jess is off the charts charismatic and down to earth. Thanks for sharing this, Adam. I will eagerly seek out Jess' work. How can you not love this guy?
Jess is just about the coolest and most personable dude I've ever seen/heard. I could listen to him tell these stories all day every day. And, now, I'm off to listen to some Rock Sugar music -- which I had never heard of prior to this episode. :)
I did not expect this interview to be so unbelievably interesting! I almost passed on this , because I have never heard of him .... I am so glad that I watched . He is just an outstanding person ! You can tell he is living right and most likely is ALWAYS kind and respectful to others ! He walks the walk and talks the talk! Thank you professor!
Jess is such a stand-up guy. He's always so genuine and sweet with fans. If you ever have a chance to meet him (he does a lot of Comic Conventions), definitely stop and say hi. For such a talented, successful person, he's so down to earth.
This interview really hit home for me. In my late teen years, I used to do impersonations for friends phone messages. I used to get calls all day from random people wanting to hear the day’s message. At 58 I started singing. When Jess said I broke the code, that’s exactly what I said once I nailed a song. His Artful Dodger story about not being right for the part inspired me. I don’t look the part of the songs I sing but the best compliment I’ve ever got was from a young man that said I was a freak of nature. Thanks Professor and Jess. The impossible odds don’t seem as far out of reach as I thought they were.
OH MY GOD , what an amazing guy !!! I could have listened to the two of you talking for hours. These stories were so good ... If he has not written a book yet , he really should. I would buy it in a heartbeat. Great Channel , Long may you Rock.
Yes, besides a concentration of talents Jess has the gift of a winning personality, one that allows him to look straight at a guy like Christopher Walken and instantly connect without offending the big guy (or gal). He looks pretty crazy but comes across as grounded and someone you can work with, a good combo. One of your more interesting videos, thanks.
Jess Harnell is one in the best voice actors ever! The guy is great! Awesome interview!! I love voice actors compared to regular actors because they actually use their imaginations to create the voices.
AWESOME !!! I like how Jess and his band mates re-interpret, and/or re-create old, classic rock and metal songs and create 'new', exciting versions of the music we enjoyed listening to while growing up.Kind of like Weird Al, but instead of parodying, taking old songs and giving them a new lease on life 🙂 Guys, DON'T STOP !! You sound GREAT !!!!!
This is far and away my favorite @ProfessorofRock podcast ever. Thank you so much for this one, Adam. Like so many other commenters have said, I had never heard of Jess before but am obviously familiar with his work. Both he and his stories are hilarious. I also had never heard of @RockSugar prior to watching this. Immediately following the podcast, I felt like I needed to go check out Reimaginator. I’ve only made it through the first two songs, but it has made me remember why I fell in love with music in the first place. I’ve literally had tears of joy in my cheeks from the emotions stored inside me that I thought had died. Thank you Jess for your incredible talent and Professor for bringing his story to me.
Jess is such a nice dude!. I've met him a few times throughout my life and he always gave all his time and attention and got completely involved in the conversation. My favorite actor, by far!
I can honestly say that I learned something today. That was such a cool interview and Jess seems like the guy that you just want to hang out with. Super cool, super laid back, and well deserved of all the success that he has had (although I'm embarrassed to say that I knew none of this). What a great interview. I enjoyed every second of it. Well done my friend!
I could have sworn he said it wasn't actually HIS garage. But yeah, if you want to sue someone for being too good at their job... (I did notice that he, very diplomatically, avoided mentioning the litigant's name. NDA v not wanting to make your hero look like a greedy egomaniac.)

I don’t remember really hearing much of anything about Rock Sugar for a long time, I remember hearing about them when they first came out but it was so long that I didn’t hear anything I sadly forgot about them so thank you so much for bringing them and Jess Harnell back to me and everyone else who only heard them once a long time ago or who’ve never heard of them before this interview! Unknown to me, aside from his work, which I know very well, but yet, the single greatest guest you've ever had. Thank you. I enjoyed Jess from the moment he started talking,
Was going to say the exact same thing!
I whole heartedly agree
Agreed!
Same !
Way cool! Just sayin 😎✌❤
I loved that part about Christopher Walken telling him that he could do the whole movie dialog and he'd just lip sync to it. What a great interview.
Ha ha ha
I think that was Chris Walken acknowledging how much work the soundalikes usually have to do and that they have a real talent for voices. In other words, he was being a genuine class act who was respecting someone else's craft.
Of all the Walken impressions I’ve heard, his is the best because it isn’t as much of an exaggeration, and you can see why he gets gigs ADR looping for the sanitized versions of films.
I SO wanted to hear Jess say: "I've got a fevah-- and the only cuwah, is mowah cowbell!"
He's a very likeable guy and quick to shine the light on others. Says a lot about his character
Wow, Jess is such a class act. Clearly he is so appreciative of being able to do what he loves. It’s inspiring and he was a fantastic interview!
Bring him back... we need a part 2 - I'm sure he has plenty of other stories to tell!
YES!!! I second the vote for more Jess stories!!!
Agreed!!!!
Yes, bring him back!
I agreed.
Absolutely
This guy has charisma! With no ego. Throw in confidence and talent. Great interview.
Yeah! He is the master of his realm with NOTHING to prove.... my kind of guy!
@@steve_anderson :-D 👍
@@steve_anderson Exactly right and anyone thinking its possible to have no ego, has no idea of how nature works. You NEED a balance of ego (the thinking mind) and intuition (the spiritual) etc.
@@EgoShredder He definitely has an ego, but he's definitely no show-off when it comes to his talent. He's the dude who is like 'I'll let my work speak for itself.'
"You gotta share your Ozzy story!"
"Which one?" Most badass answer you could've given.
I only have one Ozzy story... *le sigh* but at least I have one!
@@gidge13 One more than Ozzy...
@@balucious looool
I know right? Now I wanna hear the rest of 'em. Ahh to be a fly on the wall in the Osbourne house when Kelly pops by, and Ozzy is like, "I didn't call you." 🤣🤣🤣
What a talented AND humble guy! Really enjoyed this interview.
i love that guy - creative, humble, confident, talented, and respectful!
Never heard of this singer, but I enjoyed the interview. Like how you give time and space to let your guest share his stories. You're a class act, Prof!
You heard his voice, but never knew his name.
As a life long fan of Mel Blanc, I wholly endorse this message.
He has to be one of the coolest people in the industry. So grounded yet reaches for the stars. Great interview.
This definitely is my favorite interview that you have done, and I had never heard of Jess before.
I have NEVER heard of this man…I sure will NOT forget him now. !!
Is it me or did anyone else smile at the end when Jes looked at the camera and thanked us for watching? I love this guy!
Awesome to see The Professor of Rock interview this truly talented individual.
he seems like a guy you would go to a bar with and watch a game
This guy is just so relatable. I would listen to his stories for days.
Damn how have I never heard of this guy.. What a legend. Great interview too. The friendship between you two is so genuine, new sub too dude.
He seems like a fun guy and he did some great impressions. That Walken story was also worth it.
Great interview Adam.
I love his Walken impression! Aces for sure.
That muthah fathuh was spot on!
So are we to infer from your last sentence that Perry was the one who sued?
@@nayrecitsuj7426 correct
Sometimes? It ruined his career.
Great stuff
His Beatle voices are amazing.
He nails every single one.
One of the coolest interviews you've ever done, thumbs up for thinking outside the box. I'll bet the kiddos love this dude.
What a great interview! Such a cool guy! He is so sincere, grounded and fun guy. And Jess thanked us - very rare.
He is literally the modern Mel Blanc. High praise from me.
Well that's probably Billy West. But this guy is cool.
Or Rich Little
@@davepeterschmidt5818 try rob paulson... rich little had reagan and carson, that's it.
OH MY GOD , what an amazing guy !!! I could have listened to the two of you talking for hours. These stories were so good ... If he has not written a book yet , he really should. I would buy it in a heartbeat. Great Channel , Long may you Rock.
I never realized Wakko was so incredibly talented! Thank you for this awesome interview with Jess Harnell
Jess Harrell is great. There’s no big head getting in the way of great talent. He’s a really down to earth guy.
Jess Harnell is one in the best voice actors ever! The guy is great! Awesome interview!!
I love voice actors compared to regular actors because they actually use their imaginations to create the voices.
Good call!
Yeah, celebrities have been getting their gigs and that is grotesque
And then there is H. Jon Benjamin, who does essentially the same voice for each character yet is still funny as hell
AWESOME !!! I like how Jess and his band mates re-interpret, and/or re-create old, classic rock and metal songs and create 'new', exciting versions of the music we enjoyed listening to while growing up.Kind of like Weird Al, but instead of parodying, taking old songs and giving them a new lease on life 🙂
Guys, DON'T STOP !! You sound GREAT !!!!!
Jess is a fascinating guy. I could listen to his stories for hours.
I've known of Rock sugar for years and loved their mashups but never heard and interview with Jess. This was very cool.
I love Jess! His voice range is incredible. Thanks for introducing his music to me’
Nothing says “F-you haters” like doing an interview in your very own hangar. With Ferraris, helicopters and private jet 😂🤘🏻🤘🏻 love this guy!
It's Brandon Fugal's place. The guy who owns Skinwalker Ranch!
I could have sworn he said it wasn't actually HIS garage. But yeah, if you want to sue someone for being too good at their job...
(I did notice that he, very diplomatically, avoided mentioning the litigant's name. NDA v not wanting to make your hero look like a greedy egomaniac.)
@@GaryJames864 He was joking.
Didn't he say he "wished" is was his hangar?
@@ProfessorofRock I'm still annoyed at our county commissioners letting Fugal close off a county road that crosses Skinwalker Ranch. But that's a different topic. Interesting guest, anyway.

WOW! This is my favorite interview EVER! Jess Harnell is an amazing talent and seems like a pretty well centered good spirited human being as well. Jess is one of the most popular voice actors on the James Dobson (Focus On The Family) Christian audio drama, ADVENTURES IN ODYSSEY.
He plays a character called Wooten (who's a postman) and Jess has also done many other voices on the series.
He's cool regardless.
Thanks for introducing me to Jess. He's phenomenal and a very entertaining interview. I don't know how I missed this one but I'm glad I caught it now.

What a terrific interview, Professor! Jess has got it all: magnetism, confidence, the smoothest anecdotals, downright upbeat dude...apart from all that Talent. Keep on rockin', sugar! :D
Rock Sugar played the Memphis is May music fest years ago and we had really bad rain and many flights were cancelled so some of the evening acts could not get in. Despite having done a full session in the afternoon Jess and the boys stayed over did another set and brought the house down. Real class! Despite the rain, the flooding in parts of town you gave us great performances and helped the city through a rough week.
its not Memphis in May unless it is raining! i heard they are moving it to the fairgrounds. i think that will be a mistake...
They talk about it on the second part of the interview.
One of the best pieces you've ever done. Fascinating story, incredible guest. I watch your channel all the time as a child of the 60s and 70s, but this content is beyond your normal insights. Super entertaining knowledge.

As a 90s kid the animaniacs was a huge part of my childhood. I had no idea the guy behind the voice was so multi-talented and interesting. Thanks for this video ❤️
Professor,
Just started watching you, you are freakin' amazing! I'm 66 and spent the 70's living in Culver City and hanging out on Friday and Saturday nights on the Sunset Strip. Saw and hung out with bands at so many parties from 1973 to 1978, some became legends(Aerosmith, Van Halen, etc.) Some faded away, some lost members to OD, some blended with other bands. Your research is mind boggling, I and all your followers really appreciate what you do for us. Thank you! 🤘☮️
As an animation junkie,I can say without a doubt that Jess Harnell is a legend. The legend grows.Great interview from both of you.
David Draiman of Disturbed strikes me as a tough one.Devin Townsend.Geoff Tate.👍🤘😎
