  • In this video I explain three different ways to play a sniper in airsoft/milsim. In my opinion these three roles are the most effective ways to use the sniper class in the sport of airsoft. They are the Scout Sniper, the Flanking Sniper and the Designated Killer. These roles are all very different from one another and not every role is for every player. They each offer any player who enjoys bolt action sniper rifles, a different way to be an effective sniper.

    I've only played with TWO airsoft Snipers who did more than 'collect kills.' One of them was you Rob and the other one was Ghostbrother, AKA Hoot, AKA Bana, AKA ... oh what the heck is his real name... I'll think of it later. To me, taking the shot is a secondary goal. Primary Goal is; Paint the field for the players. Find a good perch, communicate with team members via radio, and let them know what elements of the opposing team is going in which direction. There were times when I didn't have visual on approaching OpFor and Ghost could say "Devil, you have 3 guys walking to your 2 o'clock." That info is invaluable. Secondary role of the Sniper is Providing Over Watch for team mates, taking out or at least spooking Targets that other team members can use tactics to attack. Of course... I'll never forget the time Rob was on a team with me and we were trying to find a down pilot. If the opposing team got the pilot to their base, they won. During that game, it became known that they had our pilot. Rob called it out "i'm taking out the pilot." Game over, nobody wins. That was hilarious and it was a LONG shot too.

      @@GunfatherMilsim Didn't get through Krono with my recommended BB weight of .42g BBS , so went down to .30 and the hop was acting insane , no consistency at all... So I think they were just too light.. running an ssg10 novritsch. Toward the end of the day I tried Krono on .42g again and just got through - started getting the bbs flying much straighter, until the hop seemed to just go completely. Turned down to nothing it just plopped out the end, turned up to full it just went about 20m but with no hop applied at all...
      So I think I need to think about changing something, maybe replacing the hop unit. Any suggestions are very welcome if you have any ! Thinking to send it in to get a decent hop system and also any other changes to get more consistency and range ?

      @Samuel Lucan Passmore-Webb I have a love/hate relationship with airsoft sniping. It takes a lot of patience and tuning to get the gun running consistent and even then you are always going to be very limited by "round projectile, smooth bore" physics. You can't ever be surprised when a shot decides to develop a will of its own and not stick with the program. Especially if you are shooting at something in the last 25% of your effective range.

      @@GunfatherMilsim Yeah - I really loved the different play style. And yeah, I imagine it's hard to get perfect shots all the time. But the hop with the lighter bbs truly was completely unpredictable.. just straight downward trajectories, then one click of hop and it skied it... Do you think sending it for a different hop set up would be advisable? Or do you have any ideas ?

    • @GunfatherMilsim

      @Samuel Lucan Passmore-Webb Well accuracy in airsoft comes down to two things:
      1. Consistent FPS
      2. Consistent hop up performance
      So yeah, anything you can do to maximize your hop up performance is the first thing you should look at improving. Check online to see what other players have used with that specific model. It is probably a simple as a better hop up bucking and some fine tuning.

    Thx 🤙🏻 very informative like usual… today I played the designated killer role with my wolverine hpa. I can definitely confirm that this is very effective. While my team held the line, I was moving between them to take out the enemy players. I was concealed with a viper hood and I think my really slow movement helped a lot.
    Keep up the great work. :)

      Most players think airsoft is a game of range. It is not. It is a game of angles.

    • @jackoneilsg1
      @jackoneilsg1 2 года назад

      @@GunfatherMilsim I have to somewhat disagree.
      I'm totally with you, when talking CQB, but thus does not really apply at large events, where you are mostly in agricultural woods and open fields. Of course cover is important, but since it's often lacking and you can spot someone a lot earlier, than you can fight them, it's definitely a game of range at large events.

    • @GunfatherMilsim
      @GunfatherMilsim  2 года назад +2

      If there is no cover that is a really shitty airsoft field. Additionally even in the absence of cover, airsoft is still a game of angles. The advantage of formations is based on angles. You are using multiple lanes of fire from different angles to take out a target.
      There are a great number of skills needed to perform well in an airsoft/milsim game. Use of cover, use of concealment, communications, formations, use of angles and the ability to read the tactical geometry of the field to name a few. Range is NOT a skill. Range is a characteristic of your airsoft gun and it can be purchased. This does not make you a better player. It makes you a player with more range. These are not the same thing.
      Most players when they find they are deficient immediately spend more money on their gun to gain more range in the hopes of gaining an advantage without ever considering actually learning how to play. At this channel I am trying to teach people how to play the game. I make videos that teach people the skill sets they need to improve their performance on the field.

      @@GunfatherMilsim I wouldn't call it a shitty Airsoft field. It simply isn't an Airsoft field. But at large milsims, what I'm talking about, when you have two units moving towards each other, you will spot each other at around 100m/328f. At this range you will not ne abled to reach each other. Yes, you can move forward trying to use trees as cover, but trees in this kind of woods usually are a lot thinner than your average human.
      Now the question is, who has more reach?
