Finally someone with a high quality video using this aerator. Thanks man! Gave me confidence to finally rent this thing and break up my rock solid clay soil a little bit.
These machines are beast you'll definitely get a workout lol but you can definitely do it just take your time. Its a simple process. Thank you for tuning in to my video I appreciate your support.
This video is the BEST I found for this aerator! It also helped me confirm that the Home Depot employees were so wrong when they told me this machine only works at full throttle and doesn’t have different speeds. I told them they rented us a broken machine because it didn’t work at any speed other than full speed and they fought me lol.
Thats unbelievable this machine definitely works at different speed levels 🤦🏾♂️. Everyone can't keep up with the fastest speed this machine is very heavy and will drag you if you can't keep up. So some people want to walk at a slower pace and aerator. Thank you for your support I hope everything worked out for you
You are speaking truth about those drum-style aerators. I've lost track of how many times they've banged my shins. I'm going to find a four wheel version this season.
Can't wait for the follow up video. I did a total kill of my lawn and the grass came up good . We've had a lot of grief in our family the last few years and I wanted things looking nice around the house to lift our spirits if that makes any sense. Planted a lot of winter flowers is pansies. Just wanted to freshen things up . I'm gonna try and keep up with your progress and others to help me, I'm no pro at this. But I do want to protect my investment... This was kind of expensive. Press on in the good work sir. I'll continue watching your progress.
Sorry to hear that about your family grief🙏🏾. Yes it makes perfect sense to work in the yard and keep busy. Working in the yard can be very therapeutic. It brings me joy and helps me be at peace to work in my yard and it brings even more joy when I see the final results. Remember you don't have to be a pro it just take a little consistency. I'll be showing an update of the yard shortly thank you very much for supporting me. Good luck with the family and stay strong.
I aerated my Pennsylvania fescue lawn with a tow behind aerator the first week of September. I have 28,000 square feet to do and put a few large cinder blocks on top of the aerator to give it some real weight. I only reseeded the front yard, which is about 12,000 feet, due to the cost of a quality seed (Jonathan Green Black Beauty Ultra). Got pretty good results except one area where it didnt fill in as much as I hoped. I will aerate and reseed the back yard next fall.
Great video. I rented the same machine from HD a couple of weeks back. The weights came out of the one I rented - good thing because it was heavy to lift in and out of back of car - definitely needed two strong adults. This was my first ever aeration and my TTTF lawn is coming in ridiculous with the aerate, overseed and all the rain in SE Massachusetts this September.
Great video. Thanks for all the tips. I've always used the bigger aerators and they are a workout. I have a hilly lawn which makes it even more difficult to maneuver. I think I'll give one of these smaller units a try this year. Thanks!
When is the best time to aerator the lawn,,you may have said in the video I make have missed that part,,,because this is something I want to do to my lawn,,,on your channel I enjoy because you give very good details,,,where are you located,,,I’m S.C it’s very HOT here,,,
“Man that lawn looks beat up” 😂 jk and I saw the aerator pulling you in the beginning I’m sure it would’ve dragged me cant wait to see the rest of the progress!! #tunedin
Lol yea that machine is very powerful and heavy. If you're not careful you will hurt yourself. The lawn took a beating that day. But it was needed and now in recovery mode and will turn out even better. Thank you for stopping by and watching
Thank you for the core I did it as well and reseeded it. it seems to be working my grass look like its growing. But my hope is my bald spot i have in my lawn grows grass Have you had that issue? please share any tips
Bro when did you make this video if you don’t mind me asking? I know you mentioned overseeding in about 2 weeks if I heard you right. I’m also in CT and I feel like the weather we’ve been getting over the past week or so are already starting to get borderline too chilly to allow for germination. It’s definitely been much colder compared to previous seasons around early October. Soil temps have been at or below that 50-55 degree mark several times already🤦🏽♂️
I did this video about 10 days ago and yes the temperature dropped very fast compared to previous years. But 55 degree soil temperature is still good. If you were to do this process it would have to be done by this week or mid next. Day time temperatures are still going to be in high 60s low 70s
Miss your videos, hope all is well. Been using the same seed that you use and I have some Poa Trivialis, at least I believe it’s what it is( lime geeen). It seems to have come for the seeds. Have you ever had that? If so what can I do to get ride of it? Thanks
I'll be back in the lawn shortly and yea I've dealt with Poa. I don't think its from the seed because ive noticed It will pop up occasionally once you start to break up the soil or aerate your lawn. Weed seeds tend to lay dormant in the soil and if you don't protect your lawn in time they'll germinate. Or if you're using an aerator from a big box store it could be weed seeds still stuck inside and get into your lawn. I just pull them out when I see them. To keep the poa away you have to get down a pre emergent.
I dig mine out, lay down some premium soil, and reseed. If you threw down spring pre-emergent, don't worry because digging out the poa breaks up the barrier. The seeds will germinate.
No problem! It's just one of those things I deal with if I seed in the fall because I am a big proponent of letting the turf establish itself before throwing down pre-emergent. Fall pre-emergent applications prevent poa annua, rescuegrass, cheat, brome, chickweed, and henbit. So Lawn Amateur is spot on. Getting the pre emergent apps down correctly (fall and spring) prevent weeds in the spring and in the summer.
You weren't kidding...you did aeration....are you one of our local guys to come out to call? 😆....it'll look great...the first time I aerated I felt like I ruined the yard...I'll stay tuned to see what seed you recommend
Lol it really needed. I missed 2021 so I had to make sure I got a good aeration on the lawn this time around. But it'll look good once everything bounces back
I wouldn't recommend doing this now. Because if you're planning to overseed also you're going to need atleast 14 to 21 days for the seed to germinate and that'll push you into November possibly the first frost and that'll ruin your grass seed
Quick question… I am in southern Indiana and it will get down to 34 degrees tonight, my new grass is about 4.5 inches, never cut yet, should I wait to cut it? Should I water tonight in the evening? I read that could help ? Thanks
Late summer or early fall for cool season lawn is the best time to aerate. It's only needed once a year but some people do every 2 years it all depends on the type of season you had if you need to do it or not
@@LawnAmateur 😆... not yours...I meant I'm seeing neon in my lawn...your grass is awesome my mistake....my first video will be using a sod cutter as I take your lawn 😉
This helps the grass roots grow deeper and stronger plus opens up the soil so water and fertilizer can penetrate deeper. Over time soil can get compacted really bad and the lawn can suffer from it. So this is a good routine to have for your lawn to have a healthy lawn
I rented a truck from HD and yes two people is needed to load it on the truck. Home Depot staff will help you load it on your truck but when you get home a second person will be needed that bad boy is very heavy
@@LawnAmateur California and I planted tall fescue.
