Great video, I think one of my engineer buddy’s was driving y’all train from Birmingham to Meridian. I can tell your son is enjoying him self he needs to meet engineer Big Moe and Engineer Ken there both are really great. I got called out on the radio by Engineer Ken. Hopefully he continues to like trains when he is older so he can learn more about them and he can a Railfanner just like me. I’m subbing to your channel and I hope you keep traveling on Amtrak because your videos are excellent and hopefully one day I can see your train when I go out and Railfan😊😊.
Thank you!! And getting a shoutout, I'm sure, was super cool! Hopefully, he can meet them next time we ride. We'll probably ride up to Atlanta next time we're on the Crescent. He had a great time and asks to watch our train video on the tv!! My father and uncle worked on the railroad, as did my grandfather. My uncle and grandfather retired there. My dad loves his interest in trains and has gotten him train sets and toys. For now, he's on his path to rail fan!
Very nice!! I'm glad Amtrak finally upgraded their B'ham station. Too bad they didn't build a ramp for passengers with heavy bags who are still forced for carry them up/downstairs to/from the train platform. Before there were wheels on suitcases, many needed to check them downstairs to make life easier.
@squalli1297 Yes, a ramp or something would be nice. I only had a carry on so I just carried it up. I honestly did not pay attention to the handicap accessibility. I would hope there is some other option besides the stairs.
I see that Crescent is a 30 hour train and has the sleeper cars....can you pay to get into the dining room? It's included with a sleeper car. 🙂 hmm, well, that train is east of the Mississippi, so maybe they don't cook the food aboard the train. In the west, it's "traditional dining", where the meals are prepared by a chef on the train! 🙂
I think you can pay to get in there on some routes. The Crescent is flexible dining, so it's pre-prepared meals. We did sleeper cars on the City of New Orleans train to Chicago, and it wasn't even the flexible dining it was cafe food, but we could have a combo of anything we wanted plus snacks and drinks. I'm looking forward to maybe the Sunset Limited next to try out that traditional dining!
@@Naomi.RN.Travels Traditional dining is SO great. It's high quality food 🙂 The only long distance Amtrak train I have been on is The Coast Starlight, which I rode as my "ride home from the Navy" in 2003, from Seattle (Bangor Naval Submarine Base) to San Jose (aka "Silicon Valley")....the military pays for your ride home after you retire or, in my case, just don't choose to re-enlist. I got a roomette. Felt like an officer on that trip though in the Navy I had been a lowly E-4 (junior enlisted guy). Only the Captain gets as much personal space on a submarine as you get in a sleeper room on Amtrak 🙂 But yeah, definitely do Sunset Limited so you can get the traditional dining. 🙂
@neutrino78x I love that you chose a train ride home after retirement!! And I've watched videos of the Coast Starlight, and I look forward to seeing those views one day!! Also, thank you for your service! We will definitely be doing more rides and getting some of that traditional dining!! The ride to Chicago was in December right before Christmas, and it was magical, so I may repeat that one too!!

Nice video. He looks like he enjoyed it. I took my son a few years ago surprising him and he enjoyed it.
@bhamrails Thank you, he really does enjoy it! We've rode a few times, including to Chicago, and have more journeys to come!!
