A pancake lens version of the Reverb would be what we all want, but sadly, it's not as simple as just slapping on a new pair of lenses. You'd need to properly calibrate the lenses, not to mention changing the firmware and software. It's a big task.
@TFT 5150 Said those about electric cars and private rockets to space. Hacking isn't about cost, it's about doing without knowing. With some imagination, gumption and a 3D printer, all is possible. I wouldn't attempt on a brand-new Crystal or other $2k+ headset unless someone else had succeeded at making significant improvements, but the G2 can be had for $400 or less at this time. Years ago, I noticed some of the cores in my intel “SometrhingOrAnother running much hotter than the others. The solution was to pop the top off the CPU, clean out the old paste, add new thermal paste and put the top back on. It worked a treat and I saved my cpu from an early demise. If you are convinced it can't be done, you will need to wait until someone else makes it happen. With HP no longer producing them, initially, they will, most likely, increase in cost, but at some point no one will want one so they will become cheap, until someone makes them as clear as a Crystal. Adding a few other "features" like active cooling would be very possible with a 3D printer and a small drill. Once a Maker, always a Maker. I got no more gumption left, (I’m old), so I probably won’t be doing it, but surely someone else has thought about it and they will have the gumption. I can hardly wait!

I really enjoy the G2. It is clear enough for me and it works wonders with the 4090. Dont want to buy something else that will make me spend another grand and half :D
I decided to bite the bullet and pre order the Crystal for my 3080 system. Thanks to yours, MRTV and Tatiana's testing of it I feel confident enough it will work well enough with the 3080. Finally a worthy upgrade to my trusty G2
Another great comparison video, Steve! I’ve been using the G2 from day one and it’s certainly been educational and frustrating to a degree. I’m amazed how far VR has come in MSFS, from a virtual slide show to seamless immersion. Couple that with the motion rig and it’s as close to real flying as you can get at this stage. Since upgrading to the 4090, I’m running at 200% resolution at near ultra settings and I’m more than happy with the experience. While the Crystal, or Aero, would be a worthy replacement, I’m holding out for the 12k…whenever that may be. The increased FOV in the 12k is the next goal for me. Thanks for all your time and effort in bringing us these videos, I don’t think I’d be at the point I’m at without them! 🍻
Thankyou for your kind words, I'm really glad my little vids have helped you. The Reverb G2 SS that high is truly amazing! Take care and thanks for the support.
I'm interested potentially in upgrading to the Crystal from the G2, but I'm frustrated by the lack of anyone showing what settings they have in DCS or MSFS when they're testing the Crystal.
@@jamesleicher Well then you scale things back from his vid settings that affect performance, just like you would with a lower spec video card. Its not rocket science.
I can tell you that it's not worth the pricetag yet... got my Reverb G2 version 2's for under 300.00 the Pimax Crystal VR Headsets you are looking at over $1400.00 UM for me anyway.. that's a huge FUK NO...
Thanks for this video. This is a decision I have to make soon as G2 user. Meaning… switching to Crystal. The only question mark is… when Pimax is going to start massive shipping of Crystal?
Thank you for making this and taking YOUR time to consider all of us with different PCs and Vr hardware….very hard to please everyone huh buddy…..you are only one man and there are limitless hardware combos out there…I think you do your best and it is appreciated. Now with that out the way, I wonder if over time, the battery degrades significantly like that of our Smartphones…..assume you can replace the battery in the Crystal? Any idea on cost if so?
Thanks man, that means SOO much. I sometimes think I'm fighting a losing battle lol Yes you can replace the batteries. At a guess, I'd say that will last 2 or 3 years before the battery life starts depleting. So far, even after years and years of use, my Quest 2 batt life hasn't suffered at all.
Affordable? I’m on a £299 64GB quest 2 for for flight sim because it’s all I could afford, and can afford. 8 still like watching your videos for getting to see all the stuff I can’t afford, from VR headsets like these to add on packs. I’d love to be able to afford these kinds of HMDs, or the graphics hardware to run it properly, but I’m a full time unpaid carer for my additional needs kid, Vr flight simming is my respite escape, even if I have to sacrifice most settings for my hardware and still have it stutter, potato level VR is still better than pretty flat screen flight sim
I wanna see this compared to the Bigscreen when that comes out. I wished the Bigscreen had dynamic foveated rendering but then it wouldn't be as light as it is.
Quest Pro actually has the best motion smoothing NOW, ASW - Oculus Asynchronous Space Warp, & brilliant pancake lenses with total edge to edge clarity…
Thanks Steve. I pre-ordered a Crystal some time ago to replace my G2. I got a bit worried with some of the earlier reports, including your findings, but feel better about it all since the recent firmware upgrades. As soon as they let me know I can order then I'll get it in 😁
i wouldnt bother mate. very dissapointed. im a G2 owner and no way is this worth another £1000 on the G2 - slightly bigger vert fov and bit sharper across more of image but certainly doesnt live up to all the hype that some of these reviews are saying. G2 way more comfortable faceplate, lighter. just cant see why anyone could say that the visuals are "wow" and all the other superlatives...? its beyond me...
@@dsdsdsdsdsds3139 you know what fella, I wish you'd have posted that a while ago! I've had mine just over 1 week and returned it today. It's honestly shockingly bad. It's everything you said and more. I'm glad it's just not me, I thought I was going mad 😂 I really don't think the clarity is that much of an improvement. I run an RTX4090 with an Intel 13900K and I had to lower the resolution when using the Crystal to get decent FPS (I've seen most reviewers have to do the same). What's the point in that when I can increase the resolution of my Reverb G2 by 160% with very little performance hit and get close to the same resolution I can run the Crystal at?! And all this rubbish about wider sweet spot. Your eyes have to be in exactly the right spot to get a decent image, but the Crystal wobbles and moves around so much that it's impossible to keep that position and all your left with is a blurred and contorted image along with CA. And if you wear glasses then forget it. When you tighten the rear adjuster anywhere near enough to try and hold the headset in place, then your glasses lenses are pushed right against the headset lenses, because they are so bulbous by design. The facial interface doesn't help matters as it's, quite simply, shite. Good luck in changing the battery in the time required. If you've got a gorilla living with you then you may need them for the grip strength required to press the release tabs in. Terrible and clearly cost cutting design. I decided in a couple of days that all the faults the headset had, along with the god awful build quality, it just simply was not worth the £1500 I paid, including taxes and shipping, so back it went. Pimax made it extremely difficult for me by threatening to charge me the original shipping cost and also for the face gaskets! They then constantly failed to provide me with an RMA code and return address, seeming trying to force me over the 15 day limit for returns. I called them out on it and put in a complaint before they finally provided what I needed. Like you, I don't understand why most (not all) of the reviews sing the Crystal's praises. I'll stick with my Reverb G2 until they make a PC native Pico 4 with 120 degree FOV 😉🤞
I know we don't speak of the Quest Pro, but it falls in the middle price here and I've been using it for MSFS and it's fantastic. Pancake lenses, eye tracking, wireless. My G2 is collecting dust in the drawer.
I just picked up a quest after seeing people rave about how good it looks for PCVR (I'm coming from a G2) and the clarity that the pro has surprised the crap out of me! I was expecting to be underwhelmed by it but it has blown me away!
The lenses are spectacular and I can run GA at 72fps native, no BS repro! Unfortunately the resolution is not really satisfying, especially for details at long distance.
i swapped to pro from g2 now its half price the lenses and fov is so much better the clarity in cockpit is better but u do see the distance loss of resolution but that actually helps with spotting if ur into ww2 overall its a lot nicer headset now you can get it for 700 quid i dont use my g2 now.
Much apreciated, but please don't forget 1599 is Exclusive Importduties Vat and taxes. So the final price will be 1900 at best for the buyer in the UK/Europe
Do you think the Pimax Crystal could be used with a 2080ti? I understand Id need to dial back the settings but wondering if I could dial them back to something like the reverb quality which is acceptable and be good with that until i upgrade GPU? My reverb died and I want something I can grow with as I upgrade my PC.
Battery in PCVR mode is a huge No Go for me personally. Their CEO explanation is a complete nonsense they could not pull enough joice thru USB's or other measures.
So is your Crystal now really capable of wireless PC VR operation (b/c you said it was wireless w/o any further qualification)? I would be very interested in a video on its wireless performance b/c that honestly is a big question mark so far, as imho Pimax failed to enable it for anybody - but you apparently.
@@pakman184 Ah… well, that‘s quite courageous. Pimax announced wireless as an optional module for the 8KX too and it never materialized; eye-tracking was even sold and didn‘t work on any acceptable level for 3 years (I read a user allegedly managed to get it somewhat functional recently, but that‘s late to the party). When a couple of normal paying users confirm its working, assume it is; don‘t assume you‘ll get it now or eventually anytime before such news has aired. At least if it is part of the essential features list for you to justify dishing out that kind of money, as it would be for me.
@Dodo Zapp The good news is that we've seen the wireless and eye tracking both already functional on the Crystal, and including a battery and motorized IPD wouldn't make sense if this was just wishful thinking for the future. Pimax is just too much of a clown company to release things on time so we're stuck waiting, but it's more likely it'll arrive than not.
Have you considered using a usb3 extra power cable with the 8kX fiber optic cable? Like og cable it will split the usb3 to a usb3 cable snd a usb2 extra power cable
I bought HP Reverb G2 to get rid of the screen door effect as on HTC Vive. I feel loathed to buy anything more until there is AFIS at the smaller fields. Until I get 'ATC' clearances at provincial airstrips, MSFS is merely a game. When ASOBO get this done, I will upgrade my rig.
Well it is now April 2024. I am interested in the new coming out soon affordable PIMAX Crystal Light VR headsets. I will wait and see what the video reviews say about them. Regular Crystal VR headset is nice, but too expensive for me being retired now. I have a HP G2 headset and hate it - sits on the shelf now. The sweet spot is vey small, hard to adjust to my eyes when doing SIM racing. Right now have a Quest 3, much better and enjoy doing SIM racing. Thanks for your video. Take care.
Aerofly 4.0, altough not as spectacular as overhyped MSFS, runs incredibly smooth on my Reverb G2. The sense of being “there” is really amazing. Conclusion? There’s more then MSFS only. (See, XP12, DCS, etc…)
Thanks for another great video, whats your opinion? my pc specs I5 11400F with a RTX 3060 + HP reverb G2. main use of Fsim its IFR vatsim airliners. Do you think it would be better to chance the pc specs for anotherone better, or upgrade the vr to Pimax? thanks Again
If you pay $600 for G2 then $1600 for Crystal might be bearable. But if you got a G2 for $300.... then it has to be a whole lot better. maybe when a 5090/6090 can drive 90FPS in VR, then the upgrade will come for me.
I've uhm'd and ahh'd about this for a bit. In the end I've decided to save my money, (pay off the mortgage), and wait a couple of years and then do a major upgrade with the GTX 5090, 15900 CPU and Pimax 12k (or better) headset. Rather than doing this incremental step now. With the latest settings from your recent Pimax video, I'm getting between 50-55 FPS in most environments (with still good image quality) with my G2 and 3070, which is awesome. I'll live with it a bit longer.
My Varjo is on the way and I just got an email from Pimax that all Crystals ordered before May 31 will be delivered in the next 2 months. Are you still preferring the Crystal to the Aero? I’m keeping my G2 as a travel headset to replace the Quest.
Great video and looking forward to upgrading from the G2 to the Pimax Crystal. Upgraded to a high end rig with the 4090 GPU and 13900 K CPU and the higher clarity with the Crystal is giving me goosebumps😊 In the pre-order release notes from Pimax, it was mentioned that the initial orders to be shipped would not have the software modules enabled for eye tracking and standalone VR mode. Does that mean that I’ll need to get base stations?
Mine was unusable as it just wobbled around, bouncing on its rubber band strap and 'after thought' forehead-resting facial interface. Not to mention the depth of the rear of the head-strap, which fouls the headrest of your seat (if you use a racing seat or similar) forcing you to either push your head forward or put the back of your seat down to an uncomfortable angle. In short, it's very poorly designed.
Thanks for doing all this research and testing Steve. And thanks for sharing it with all of us! Now do I upgrade from the G2 to the Crystal? Or instead invest in a DOF Reality H2/3? Decisions, decisions.
If I could get the H3 delivered to me for the price of the Crystal, then I would probably already have one. lol That said, the Crystal is still overpriced for what you get, IMO.
Got a question for you… I currently run a quest 2 headset for VR and I and looking to upgrade, I run a RTX 4070 GPU and I use two separate rigs, one for Sim Racing and another for flight sim. My question is, if I upgrade to Pimax Crystal or Varjo Aero, can I run two separate cables from my PC to the rigs, (I have the Sockets to do so) can I move the VR to each rig as I do with my quest 2? Hope I have explained this well enough, do either the pimax or varjo require a any form of base station? Many thanks, like your videos, keep up the great work. Kev.
So far, the performance of my pc ( a 3080ti with Intel i7 12700k) is the limiting factor for visual quality. If I disable AA and motion smoothing the image sharpness of the Reverb G2 is still excellent! But with those turned on, which I must for a smooth experience, the sharpness drops quite much.
Nice review. The only nitpick I have is that there is quite a lot of assumption in that all the missing features and bugs in the Pimax will be fixed. Pimax don’t exactly have the best track record in that area. They emphasize a lot jn their product launches but they launch unfinished products that may or may not be finalized jn the future. I hope I am wrong. Don’t misundersrand me - I am trying to make up my mind between the Varjo Aero and the Pimax Crystal, coming from a G2. But the Aero feels like a much more refined product and a safer place to dump the money. But I do like the increased fiv of the Crystal. I guess there isn’t one headset to rule them all 😂
I've had the Reverb G2 for a while and just received the Pimax Crystal, yes the display is gorgeous but its heavy, awkward, and buggy. IMHO, stay with the G2.
I have a G2 - quality wise I’ve had quite a few pieces break. First the plastic piece for the headstrap broke early on Then the plastic on the side broke as well - I ended up needing a new custom head strap So I think quality overall was low in that regards
Hey Huddison nice to see you over here. Nothing wrong with that, I actually regret selling my CV1. Although the Reverb G2 would be a nice upgrade path for you. Take care and keep up the super-duper content :)
Only thing left is to test the Pimax Crystal on a current gen AMD GPU RX 7900 XT / XTX and do the VR controllers work out the box in X-Plane 12? in MSFS2020 they are crap and will never ever use them and stick to my Logitech MX3 Master mouse. Love the content and Pimax Crystal is my only upgrade owning the G2 V1 now. Just need to find the needed funds
Speaking as a "normie" I have to say the G2, as my first foray into VR was massively disappointing. It hurt my eyes. The lens blur was absurd. The perception of grain was inescapable. The image was dim. The tunnel vision was stunningly strong. In essence, VR reviewers broke my trust with that thing. I love your enthusiasm, but a person has to just have a ton of free time and unconditional love for technology if they are going to get into VR still. I'll catch you guys in another decade... when THE experience IS the flying, not the technological hurdles.
I have both the HP Reverb G2 and the Valve Index along with an old Rift S. I would like to try the crystal, but I can't afford a 4th headset until I win the lottery
@@VRFlightSimGuy Yeah, I was sold on that headset over a year ago. . .and now am still waiting (for another year. . .?) 😁 It should go well with my RTX5090. 🤣
Hi Steve, is the image as clear in the CRYSTAL headset as it is watching this video ? I'm still using my Quest 2 which is ok, but I am always a bit disappointed when I play pcvr games, the exception being Half Life Alyx. Could be time for an upgrade.
no compression,2x the PPD,edge to edge clarity, local dimming qled panels the difference will be astonishing between crystal and a quest 2 i think even more than the price
95% of the userbase will not even be able to use the full capabilities of headsets like the Pimax Crystal, Pimax 8K, the upcoming Pimax 12k, and Varjo without extremely degrading the game quality settings and the headsets settings due to not owing giga god tier PC's (RTX 4090/ RTX 3080, 32+ GB of RAM, i7 13700K/ i9 13900k processors) making the Pimax 5K, Reverb G2, or Valve Index better options for 95% of people depending on what you intend to use the headset for.
Mmm....actually im not very convincing about the cristal I have the pico 4 and the 4090 and im going to wait 2 more years to see what's on the market..
Great video, looking forward to the G2 settings video, have always struggled to get them right as was always a step beyond you in GPU's but now i own a 4090 FE i can keep up .. for now, also its an interesting debate weather to upgrade from G2 to the Crystal, I too have the money, but theres so many possibilities out there, like the Beyond and Deckard! if the Crystal was just a bit smaller i would def bite, not that i wont, money always burns a whole !!! lol
Problem with the crystal is that it has the size for a 12k FOV, but you're only getting about half that in the Crystal. So with the Crystal, you're carrying a lot of mass and size around for nothing.
it is rather big, isnt it, we are almost there with the perfect VR headset, if the beyond did what the crystal does, that would be perfect @@HelmutBemboka
Only issue with G2 is when the head strap (plastic) snaps , good luck in finding a replacement, enter a bit of bonding adhesive and bicycle inner tube 🙈 now to wait for the crystal to start shipping. Great comparison though.
Thanks Simon. I've heard about this issue, strange that my Reverb G2 (probably being the oldest one ever produced since I was one of the first RUclipsrs to receive one), has been totally flawless. Maybe I just got lucky!

I use the BOBOVR M2+ with my reverb g2 v2. No problem with the original strap apart from not been able to get it tight to my face. BOBOVR is a tight fit but works perfectly. I just put a little oil and it went in. Tip for anyone that wants to change the strap.
funny that the crystal is considered to have a large fov. for a longterm pimax user like myself its fov is considered laughably small to the point that not even the incredible clarity can make up for it. it is completely bewildering to me that new headsets still get released with divingmask-fov like its 2013.
@@VRFlightSimGuy sadly i have only ever had fresnel lenses in my headsets, they suck, no question about it. but yes, i am completely spoiled in the fov-department since i first experienced the 5k in 2018. i actually did a test to see how small an fov i could tolerate when the crystal was announced with 110°, turns out everything below 150° is just not acceptable for me anymore. it just feels so claustrophobic and disconnected from the virtual world, i had no idea fov was such a big deal, because i have only experienced 180°fov-VR for the last 5 years.
Wentr from DK2 (awesome) to CV1 (trash) to HCT vive (not bad not great) Pimax crystal is my next. it's been a hot minite!!! time for me to jump back in....

I ma not sure what it will look like with no audio mounted on the Crystal but I am hoping its doable and I can put the Crystal over my audio headset like I do with my 8k X. A friend of mine also does the same thing with his Reverb G2 and has ordered the Crystal and hoping for the same thing.
Pico 4 has very good visual quality. I wear without facial interface and i get great FOV. Im curious to test the Crystal. I believe its like to look in a monitor.
How about mentioning computer power to fuel both the VR headsets to a reasonable visual quality because it all well a good saying how much better the Crystal is but does it need a 4090 to run that good
@@VRFlightSimGuy Very few simmers have 4090s perhaps compare reduced visual quality to maintain performance for both headsets on lower cards eg 4080, 3090, 3080 and XTX cards. @@Lisa-Azra_Broad I am well aware of that, I'm currently testing an RTX 4070 based system with the Crystal, so stay tuned. But obviously, it's impossible for me to test every PC config.
Oh my god. It DOES have eye tracking? Wtf? I completely thought this headset was bullshit when they announced the feature set a few years ago. Looking forward to see how software and stuff plays out over the next year or so. Might actually get this thing. Would be nice to not have a battery next to my face though. Quite impressive.
They eliminated the heavier AC cable to headset and the need to have to plug in to the wall by using the existing battery that is also a counterweight. I don't understand how that is not a huge win. Two hot swappable batteries that take 10 sec to switch every 4 hours and a lighter feeling headset. You won't want to go back.
@@laartwork because batteries degrade and eventually need to be replaced. An AC adapter can still be shaped and weighted to be like the battery, thereby still acting like a counterweight. And you already have a cable running from the headset, so another one isn’t a big deal.
I absolutely loved the VR experience but my 3070ti, intel 7 10th gen simply can't run the sim in VR at an acceptable standard... You really need an RTX 40's to run it good...
you know what, my aim is to get a 4090...... i dont think i can afford another £2k on a VR headset lol. The 4090 itself allows me to crank up settings on lower res VR e.g. Q2 and that would probably keep me happy lol.

I'm on the same boat bro.. got the 4090 and the G2...

Great video! How does the camera passthrough on the Crystal? Is it the same searchlight controllers thing as in the G2? Can you read a PC keyboard?
Great info Steve!!!! I'm trying to learn everything I can before pulling the trigger on a crystal!
As always very good work.
Have a nice evening my friend and take care.

Thanks, great attention to details!

I'm glad it's just not me, I thought I was going mad 😂
I really don't think the clarity is that much of an improvement.
@@xjrthirteenthank you ! Saved me a lot of expense and heart ache. 🙏
Eye tracking works with MSFS?
@@MrStrosty yep
i swapped to pro from g2 now its half price the lenses and fov is so much better the clarity in cockpit is better but u do see the distance loss of resolution but that actually helps with spotting if ur into ww2 overall its a lot nicer headset now you can get it for 700 quid i dont use my g2 now.
Much apreciated, but please don't forget 1599 is Exclusive Importduties Vat and taxes. So the final price will be 1900 at best for the buyer in the UK/Europe
Good point thanks. I've heard reports from early pre orders that's it around £1700 with import duty tax
Hi @@VRFlightSimGuy that is on par with 1900-1950 euro so that must be right
What about the fps and performance between the G2 and the Crystal?
Thanks for the comparison, I do have the G2 and pre ordered the crystal a while ago. the only thing is the weight of the thing.
His isn't wireless either, he just mentioned it as a feature the Crystal "has" though it's not activated yet.
Great video. Keep the Crystal one's coming
Steve, what program do you use to capture your game play VR footage?
Well it is now April 2024. I am interested in the new coming out soon affordable PIMAX Crystal Light VR headsets. I will wait and see what the video reviews say about them.
Regular Crystal VR headset is nice, but too expensive for me being retired now.
I have a HP G2 headset and hate it - sits on the shelf now. The sweet spot is vey small, hard to adjust to my eyes when doing SIM racing. Right now have a Quest 3, much better and enjoy doing SIM racing.
Thanks for your video. Take care.
Is it possible to run the Crystal as a PCVR headset only? Or are you always dependent on the battery?

Aerofly 4.0, altough not as spectacular as overhyped MSFS, runs incredibly smooth on my Reverb G2. The sense of being “there” is really amazing. Conclusion? There’s more then MSFS only. (See, XP12, DCS, etc…)

Thankyou glad you enjoyed it. I'd recommend upgrading your PC first, before your VR headset.
If you pay $600 for G2 then $1600 for Crystal might be bearable. But if you got a G2 for $300.... then it has to be a whole lot better. maybe when a 5090/6090 can drive 90FPS in VR, then the upgrade will come for me.
Totally agree.
Talk more about the batteries, how long they last and how everything connects up!
Maybe if you say please, I'll think about it.
@@VRFlightSimGuy I’m surprised you’d post such a snarky and insulting reply to a subscriber. Un-subscribing. There are plenty of other VR channels.
Have you had to change battery, or does it recharge in the head set after play, when pc is asleep?
Great video and looking forward to upgrading from the G2 to the Pimax Crystal. Upgraded to a high end rig with the 4090 GPU and 13900 K CPU and the higher clarity with the Crystal is giving me goosebumps😊 In the pre-order release notes from Pimax, it was mentioned that the initial orders to be shipped would not have the software modules enabled for eye tracking and standalone VR mode. Does that mean that I’ll need to get base stations?
Love it ❤ i can’t wait to get my hands on the crystal
Thanks for the video . How does the crystal feel with your motion platform? Given the heavier weight.
My pleasure. It feels absolutely fine for me, but keep in mind this may differ for other people.
@@VRFlightSimGuy thanks
If I could get the H3 delivered to me for the price of the Crystal, then I would probably already have one. lol
That said, the Crystal is still overpriced for what you get, IMO.
you already have a capable VR headset. add a motion rig!
Got a question for you…
I currently run a quest 2 headset for VR and I and looking to upgrade, I run a RTX 4070 GPU and I use two separate rigs, one for Sim Racing and another for flight sim.
Yup … upgrade your PC fella and keep the G2 😊
Thanks Steve! How’s the motion smoothing on the Crystal?
np :) I can't get it to work atm, so still on going....
I guess there isn’t one headset to rule them all 😂
will crystal work for laptops as well?
Hey Steve got an email saying preorders are shipping. I know you’re really busy but can you try running the crystal on the AMD system
I've had the Reverb G2 for a while and just received the Pimax Crystal, yes the display is gorgeous but its heavy, awkward, and buggy. IMHO, stay with the G2.
I have a G2 - quality wise I’ve had quite a few pieces break.
First the plastic piece for the headstrap broke early on
Then the plastic on the side broke as well - I ended up needing a new custom head strap
So I think quality overall was low in that regards
I'm still rolling with a Oculus CV1 ☹
The HP Reverb has been tempting me for the longest time.
Hey Huddison nice to see you over here. Nothing wrong with that, I actually regret selling my CV1. Although the Reverb G2 would be a nice upgrade path for you. Take care and keep up the super-duper content :)

What is the fiber optics 8KX cable ??
Only thing left is to test the Pimax Crystal on a current gen AMD GPU RX 7900 XT / XTX and do the VR controllers work out the box in X-Plane 12? in MSFS2020 they are crap and will never ever use them and stick to my Logitech MX3 Master mouse. Love the content and Pimax Crystal is my only upgrade owning the G2 V1 now. Just need to find the needed funds
What about prescription lens inserts? Can you get them for this?
Yes, VR Rock have some coming soon. Check my notes for a discount code
I would like to try the crystal, but I can't afford a 4th headset until I win the lottery

no compression,2x the PPD,edge to edge clarity, local dimming qled panels the difference will be astonishing between crystal and a quest 2 i think even more than the price

Yeah the form factor is SUCH a put off lol, unless you like role playing as a hammerhead shark with a heavy head
Problem with the crystal is that it has the size for a 12k FOV, but you're only getting about half that in the Crystal. So with the Crystal, you're carrying a lot of mass and size around for nothing.

funny that the crystal is considered to have a large fov. for a longterm pimax user like myself its fov is considered laughably small to the point that not even the incredible clarity can make up for it.
it is completely bewildering to me that new headsets still get released with divingmask-fov like its 2013.
Unless you've experienced aspheric lenses, you won't understand. If FOV is your thing that's fine, for most, visual quality comes first.
Important question... Crystal has Displayport?
Wentr from DK2 (awesome) to CV1 (trash) to HCT vive (not bad not great) Pimax crystal is my next. it's been a hot minite!!! time for me to jump back in....

How about mentioning computer power to fuel both the VR headsets to a reasonable visual quality because it all well a good saying how much better the Crystal is but does it need a 4090 to run that good
They BOTH need a 4090

Oh my god. It DOES have eye tracking? Wtf? I completely thought this headset was bullshit when they announced the feature set a few years ago. Looking forward to see how software and stuff plays out over the next year or so. Might actually get this thing. Would be nice to not have a battery next to my face though. Quite impressive.
The G2 has an AC adapter. Someone needs to develop one for the Crystal.
I use a 3070 with a 13900 CPU and it works great with the G2.
you know what, my aim is to get a 4090...... i dont think i can afford another £2k on a VR headset lol. The 4090 itself allows me to crank up settings on lower res VR e.g. Q2 and that would probably keep me happy lol.
