Hey - thanks for watching! I hope you enjoyed this little getaway into Coastal interior design. What do you think of this style? Which style would you like to see feature next?
Thanks so much for teaching me the elements of the Coastal design style. You explained it better than anyone else I have found on RUclips. I also very much like your "get to the point" method of explaining instead of the blah blah blah of other RUclipsrs.
I live in Finland and I’m inspired by costal style❤. It’s difficult to perform in a small 58m2 apartment, where you have to setup not only costal vibe but domestic functions. Thanks for the video, it’s explaining a lot❤
My favorite style. I used to subscribe to Coastal Living magazine. I love the happy colors, the visible woodwork. Very nice video. Did I say I just love this style?
Oh that's amazing! I know it's so analog but I still love print journalism, especially in the realm of interior design. They're great for tearing out pages and creating mood boards for my design projects. And few things make me happier than visible woodwork. Thanks for watching!
Yes, I am moving in this direction! Architecturally, our home is a Cape Cod style, though it is situated lakeside in the Midwest. The coastal style is one that fits our desire for a relaxed, casual atmosphere. It is the first style that resonated with my husband as well. Even though I tend to prefer lots more color, I'm going all in with texture instead. Thanks for you video! I love to see concepts picked apart to find their essential elements.
Fantastic video, as always, thank you! A cornucopia of inspiring visuals and information about the various choices. Love your energy, and your enthusiasm for making a house a home!
Love this video, it’s very informative. Could you please elaborate a bit what you mean by ‘keep your horizontal surface clear’? Btw I love the movie too ! Watched it 3 times!
Yes, of course! "Horizontal surfaces" refers to tabletops like your entry table or coffee table, desk or console, and even the fireplace mantel or kitchen counters. They are places we put things down and can quickly accumulate clutter or "overstyling". Cleaning them off with limited, intentional styling gives a space a clean, uncluttered look that supports the rest of the design while also creating more usable space for daily activities.
Hi Lindsay, great video! I have an old two unit beach rental. Have been fixing it up the past few years without a theme. Just starting doing what i thought was cool at the time. I was 19 when i started. The house looked like it was decorated by a teenage male because, well, it was. Over the years I slowly discovered coastal. Currently painting all the walls white with pops of a pastel teal. The house has always been very brightly colored(think florida keys) so i wanted to reflect that to create a more 'fun coastal'. Now the house is pretty much like a coastal half modernized old cottage. I feel like theres so many elements. My guests always compliment my style so i guess im doing something right... I'm hoping the white paint will help pull everything together without looking stark.
From teenage boy vibes to a coastal oasis, you've certainly come a long way! It's funny how our tastes evolve over time, but it sounds like you've found your design groove. Who knows, maybe you'll inspire the next generation of teenage decorators!
I love this style for sure ! Great video! Well done from a lil old lady in Canada! I have a question if I may ask Am looking to paint whole small home and was wondering about the color you have on walls behind you in your video? Many thanks!
Yes of course! I used Benjamin Moore's Balboa Mist in this space. It's a soft, creamy neutral and becomes all glowy pretty in the light here in my home office. You can see more (and me painting the ceiling this color!) in my recent home office makeover video. ruclips.net/video/Rm6zyHbgjwc/видео.html
Decluttering can be tough, but I honestly believe it is the best way to get closer to your design style. Focus on the things you love most and make space for your style to grow. Good luck! 👍🏻
Thanks for your video. Gorgeous gorgeous images and wonderful advice as we move to a beachside apartment, know what I like but it’s overwhelming transitioning , well thats not strictly true as I already have a bit of coastal going on - thank you 😊Do you have a digital space you give individual advice , answer questions, look at photos etc? .I’m in New Zealand 🇳🇿 Happy Holidays
Well, aren't you just a ray of sunshine! Thank you for your kind words about the video. Transitioning to a beachside apartment can be overwhelming, but it seems like you already have a taste for coastal living. As for a digital space, I have a website (lindsayliving.com) with more information, access to my digital courses, and I'm building out a platform for digital design consulting. You can check out the scheduling page at lindsayliving.as.me/. I'll be talking about it a lot more in an upcoming video. Cheers to Happy Holidays all the way from New Zealand!
Isn't she so charming in that movie?! I love both actresses so much and they are dynamite together in this. The decor is half the reason I watch any Nancy Meyers film. 😉
I did the interior design of our current home to my tastes and watching this I learned that it is called the Coastal Design Style. I had no clue until I watched your video this is what we have. I never liked the nautical design. When I see the homes with the anchors, fish, and lighthouses decorations that are so commonplace, those things do not appeal to me. Stikes me as looking a bit cheesy I suppose. Not coastal currently but near Orlando. We will be moving to our new coastal home by the end of spring on the Forgotten Coast of Florida.
The Holiday is fantastic inspiration for this! Nancy Meyers interiors are iconic. Her set designers follow her aesthetic of cozy, casual luxury in crisp whites, often layering in a little color and print, and it NEVER goes anywhere near kitschy. I'd recommend any of her films for set design study. So gorgeous!!! This article really explains her aesthetic well across several of her most remembered films: www.architecturaldigest.com/story/nancy-meyers-film-design Have fun with it!
Omg,if you live at the beach everyone is beachy decor just different price points.i would not like being locked into a area that determines how to decorate, like if you live mountains guess how your going to decorate lol. Not me midcentury modern in any house and not locked in to area only what I love.
All the statements I made in this video agree with you, Patty! The design of your home should make you happy, no matter where you live. I mentioned my mom a lot in this video as this is her favorite decor style. She does not now nor has she ever lived near the coast, so this style brings the relaxation and calm of the ocean to her where she lives. Just because you live in a waterfront property does not mean you must pursue this style. You do you. 😊

Glad it was helpful!
OMG first time I have had Coastal vs Nautical described so abruptly....well done!
I'm so glad you enjoyed this one! Watching it back I could have gone more into the differences so if you ever want more on that topic let me know. 😉

Love coastal style. Thanks for clarifying about anchors and shell cut outs!🤣 The Holiday is one of my favorite movies !
Seriously! Elevated is key with this one. It can go kitschy so quickly and really there's no need. 😂

Lake house is a beautiful option for you too.
Wow, what a great video! I love how it has it all from style basics to inspirations to where to find it all! Great job!
Thanks so much, Gigi! I'm so glad you enjoyed this one!
Anchors AWAY! Hands down - my favorite video. I love this style and learned so much. Thank you for your in-depth approach to content, Lindsay.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this one - it definitely had YOUR name on it. Let me know what design style we should explore next!
@@LindsayLiving I would love to see ways to mix styles.

Glad you enjoyed it!
Love these ideas. Just bought a home on the water and am really inspired by your ideas.
Wonderful! I hope you go slow and enjoy every moment designing your new space. 🤗
I can tell you’re a teacher by how explicit and systematic this video is 😂 (I’m a teacher too). Amazing info and so easy to follow! Thank you!
Wow, thank you!

THE HOLIDAY! Yes!
It never gets old! 😊

Thank you for this! I love coastal!
Your lighting has improved a lot
Thanks!
I love your style. I need your help decorating my home in florida. xoxo
Designing a Florida home would be fun - all the tropical coastal vibes plus a good excuse for hidden Mickeys. 😉
Thank you this helped so much xx
I'm so glad! Good luck on your design! 🌺
Interested to know if white and cream wall paint colors would be good for this style?
Absolutely! It creates a calm base that lends itself well to this style. ❤️
Also wanted to mention that I love The Holiday. It's one of my very favorite films. I just love Cameron Diaz in it too.

Something’s got to give - best coast movie
It's the best! I love it! My mama and I think it's timeless.
The Holiday is one of my faves. I have probably watched it five times. Working on coastal soon. Def want to make sure I stay away from kitsch.

Can you please cover Organic Modern design please
Yes! Absolutely...
My entertainment center is pictured at 13:42. I like mine better, because it is a lighter tone. I live in Florida across from the beach.
Oh! That's awesome - such a beautiful piece. Sounds perfect! Say hello to the beach for me!
I couldn’t understand the name of the coastal transitional designer you mentioned. Can you please give me her name? Thanks
Beginning at 07:55 I discussed Shea McGee. She's fantastic!
Paint colors?
👍❤
Thank you!
When making these kind of videos I think it’s very important to credit all the designs featured. Suzie Anderson does this very well.

Cruh-ate? Really? Please learn to pronounce this word correctly.
Oops! Looks like I cruh-ated a pronunciation mishap. Thanks for keeping me on my toes!
Oh c'mon sally. Cruh-ate your own video. Would love to critique every little petty detail lol
