When I was younger, I used to have so many weird dreams about Mario 64. Like different variations of the castle and courtyard, expanded and especially convoluted. The version Joel plays here is scarily similar to those dreams, and it’s both shockingly terrifying, and also weirdly comforting.

This romhack feels like how it felt the first time I played Super Mario 64 back when I was a kid, the game just felt so big back then and it always felt like there were levels I haven't found yet, one of my favorite memories with this game and with video games in general was the very first time I started up the game we bought a used copy of it and when I loaded up the game there was a save file, I loaded it up and went into the castle and went down the stairs to the basement and it seemed like it went on forever, the first level I found was hazy maze cave but keep in mind I didn't really know it was a separate level I thought it was apart of the castle so it made the game feel way bigger then It actually was, I went deeper into the level until I got to the part with Dorothy and my little child brain was loosing it's shit because the music kicked in and the game just felt so big and it was so fun and it kinda felt spooky but in a mysterious way, it quickly became one of my favorite games of all time because it felt so big and open and this romhack managed to make me feel the same way I felt in that moment and it's so weird but fantastic at the same time, It's amazing how Super Mario 64 continues to blow me away to this day.

For some reason classic sonics second levels had a theme of being shit Marble zone misunderstands the whole point of sonic and slows you down to a crawl Chemical plant has that section Flying battery has platforming that can instantly kill you if you fall And hydrocity is mostly water

It's basically the same kind of maze format, except with cryptic puzzles and platforming levels leading to stars, instead of just walking around and occasionally getting an effect. There's like 145 stars found so far, and apparently there are updates with more content planned.

Yume 2kki is so massive. 1400 maps total. .Flow and Yume Nikki itself combined don't even have half the maps Yume 2kki has, which is insane. All of them feel so different with their atmospheres though, which is really nice
Me and my mum went back and finally beat the game we bonded over when I was a child about ten years ago. It took us a lot of continues, but we indeed beat Bubble Bobble, hahaha! Super good game, was more fun as an adult, understanding the mechanics, than as a child!

Info I gave for Vinny was maps typically aren't super useful, better to try and keep track of how the places connect yourself and if Joel does go for the ending, 30 stars will be required.

Well, my copy comes from a shut down walmart building that had GAS everywhere, the people who got the cartridge almost died getting it, and they managed to restore it by using their robbery talents for opening it and injecting it some sort of Bonzi Buddy program to make it functional and then making a sacrificial ritual to make it playable on console without the FBI knowing that the cartridge was activated yet again

I think the reason Odyssey levels felt smaller than SM64 levels despite being bigger might be because SM64 had smaller draw distances and a camera closer to Mario. The movement in Odyssey also lets you travel much farther with one good jump while slippery 64 Mario needs much more careful play. Might be why the worlds feel smaller in speedruns

i can't believe the Super Mario 64 beta referenced Silent Hill at 34:40 also at 1:24:25 when Jobel rambles about the scale of the levels, i think 64's levels only feel so big because the textures are stretched out so large, it feels like you're so tiny compared to like the rocks and pebbles on the road, or just the bricks in the walls and stuff.

The soap flavor jellybean is actually quite good as it tastes like how you think soap would taste from the smell. Wish they sold only soap flavor
Dirt is also an ok flavor if I recall. It’s just sugary with a hint of earthy ness
This but for grass clippings, honestly I love the sweet + leafy taste.
