I have never seen you before but I liked your enthusiasm and big smile it definitely pulled me into the video. I'm thinking of road tripping through Europe this year after I finish my study. It was nice seeing your video making me realize packing is something you really have to think about.
Hey Jade! Great video, thank you for going so in-depth! This sounds like a dumb idea, but could you maybe do a video rundown on how hosteling works? I've done it in a group for a few days, but feel like going solo would be much more of a challenge and I don't know how well I would be taking care of myself for an extended period of time. Like if cooking/washing clothes/storing luggage is available in every hostel, or what you do if not, things like that. Basically a Hosteling 101 I guess haha, I don't know, I'd just find it really useful!
It's insane that youre 18. I'm 21 and can't imagine doing this with other people, let alone alone. I wouldn't know what I'm doing. How do you have the balls and the motivation? And can you do a video on everything you should know about/before you go solo travelling?
I went on my first backpacking trip with a friend when we were around your age and it was such a blast. I went again alone for 5 weeks when I was 24. I highly recommend it, maybe start with something small like a weekend getaway somewhere close
@@drewkavi6327 you stay in hostels because they are full of other solo travelers. So much stuff! When I traveled half a year, I had just one 55l Backpack. And in this I had things like a tent, sleeping bag and my cooking equipment :D So you can go much lighter, if you like.
Nice! 👌 Versatility is the number one thing for minimalist travel. After some trips I managed to put everything in a 35 liter backpack (no extra bag). This is for trips of 3 weeks and longer. Everything under that I take an even smaller one. The freedom of it is the best. 😊 And i find it fun to get to know what you actually need and what I can leave at home.
@@kassandra8973 For sure! This comment is from 3 years ago, and because of the big C I didn't travel as much during that time, but these tips are my faves: 😃1. Roll everything and put it into packing cubes. Folding takes too much space. Look for videos on how to do it (ranger roll) 2. Versatile shoes. I like flip flops which double as shower shoes, for example, and hiking sandals which double as shoes for wearing when swimming on rocky shores 3. Bring a big microfiber towel. Dries quickly and needs little space 4. Shampoo/soap bars. They are small and are the equivalent of a few bottles of shampoo. 5. Learn to need less stuff. 😉 Hope this helps a bit! There are many videos on youtube about stuff like this as well, which you can adapt to your needs and destination. Happy travels!

Oh girl. I'm getting ready to interrail Europe for 6 months to a year + IN THE WINTER and I have nothing more than one, 35L backpack. The 3XL hoodie stays though..Hahah!!
So happy that you are uploading so often at the moment! A general tip that I learnt from my mother: keeping valuables hidden and close to your body is obviously a good idea in general, but it’s also good not to keep all your valuables in one place. For instance, keep cash in a couple of different places and your card in a separate place. Keep a photocopy of your passport somewhere other than your actual passport, and if possible keep your phone in a third place. Then, if you are parted from one of you bags for some reason (you never know), you won’t be completely without some means of sorting it out.

I would advice not taking a sleeping bag with you when you go to Australia if you're planning on using it only for hostels as most hostels in Australia don't allow you to use sleeping bags due to risk of bed bugs being spread. From my experience of traveling from Melbourne up to Cairns hostels seem to be pretty strict about this rule. Even if you plan on camping while there it is much easier to buy a cheap sleeping bag from somewhere like Aussie Disposals and then sell it through a Backpacking group on Facebook when you're done .
I'm looking at getting this exact backpack for my next international trip! It's nice to see it in "real life" to get a better idea of how much it will hold. :)
Hey Jade, I have a fear of earplugs because I naturally don't wake up till late morning, so what kind of alarm did you use to wake yourself up on those 5 am/6 am mornings? How did you hear your alarm, but not noisy hostile people?
Proximity and vibration are key. By putting it on your mattress close to your head you hear it a lot louder than the others do and you can feel the vibrations too, which help.
@@squareplayn I know that this comment is 1 year+ late, nevertheless, NEVER sleep with your phone on the bed, especially if it's plugged for charging. Both the adapter and phone might "explode" and who wants to do the spoon with a possible explosive phone? Not me at least
@@klarabergqvist8054 Fair point, thanks for the wake up call (pun intended, but thanks is honest too) Personally, I am fine with taking that risk for the occasional few nights in dorms where I need to wake up early, but for doing it every day perhaps I'm going to reconsider. (I sleep with it next to my head every day at home too to track my sleep at home. I deliberately do have an extra slow charger to avoid it heating up at all but still... Considering a smartwatch rn, much smaller battery and even better tracking)
I wear industrial earplugs and i choose a higher pitch tone alarm and i set alarms 5 mins apart, if you have it on a wooden side table the vibrate setting makes a racket so no worries .. also set a reminder.. if you are travelling with someone both set alarms to have a back up, in addition if it is for something very important you could get a friend or relation to call you to wake you up x
Very useful video! But I was wondering, How do you travel in the cities? For example, if you get off in a station far away from your Hostel. Can you jump on any buss/train and just show your interrail pass? Or do you have to fill in those as well? Thanks in advance! :)
You’re living my fucking dream!! I’m from Germany and on exchange year in the US now and I’ll come back by the end of June. I’ll have two and a half months of free time before school will start again in mid September. I’ve almost decided to Interrail Europe because the summer before I left, I was constantly Flixbusing around Europe, just with the exception that I came home inbetween. It’s been my dream for a while to do this and so now that I am 18 and I have enough money, nothing can hold me back anymore!!
I like that you shared what you packed AFTER your trip because you could then say whether it was even useful to pack or not used at all.

Amber Abroad could you please tell me what brand this bag is? Thanks
@@klarabergqvist8054 Fair point, thanks for the wake up call (pun intended, but thanks is honest too)
Personally, I am fine with taking that risk for the occasional few nights in dorms where I need to wake up early, but for doing it every day perhaps I'm going to reconsider.
thank you jade! this video and your vlog's are so useful, i'm travelling Europe soon by train and hostels so this is awesome :)

It’s been my dream for a while to do this and so now that I am 18 and I have enough money, nothing can hold me back anymore!!
also!! could you please do a video summarising the costs of your trip and the rough total! thankyouuu
Jade I’m living for these daily videos,
