To be clear: they're not just overly praising her, my reaction was the same when I saw it live. It's not just about doing the combo, it's about being able to do it and at the right time and during a real match!
It's very easy (especially as a new player) to just rely on easy-to-do stuff, cause you're afraid of making mistakes, so you don't go for optimal combos to squeeze out just a little bit of extra damage, but she did!

    • @portvain3869

A straightforward explanation of how this combo works for people who don’t play fighting games:
Towa is playing as Ed, a high-difficulty character, on Modern controls. Even though Modern controls are simplified, Ed’s moves are still complex enough that this combo can be tricky to pull off. To understand why, we need to explain the 3 buttons at play here:
    1. Auto. This button does nothing by itself, but changes the properties of other buttons when held down.
    2. Heavy. This is Ed’s strongest normal attack button. When pressed by itself, Ed will perform a high-angled Heavy Flicker. When pressed while Auto is held down, Ed will perform a straight Heavy Punch. Both of these moves have the same amount of startup and do the same damage, but Heavy Flicker leaves the opponent in hitstun for longer. However, when Auto is held down, Heavy can also be held down to charge up a Psycho Knuckle, a slow but powerful special move.
    3. Parry. When Parry is pressed during the active frames of a normal attack, a character will perform a Drive Rush, cancelling the animation of the normal attack and rushing forward to allow for combo extension. This consumes up to 3 bars of the Drive Gauge, the segmented meter below the characters’ health bars.
With that explanation out of the way, here’s the breakdown:
0:04 Towa starts off by using Drive Impact, a powerful combo starter that is not interrupted by an opponent’s attacks. Since she successfully lands it, she has a brief window to begin a combo before her opponent crumples to the ground.
0:06 Towa starts her combo by holding Auto and pressing Heavy for Heavy Punch. Holding Auto isn’t strictly necessary here, as the combo can also be started with Heavy Flicker, but it is the most consistent way to start the combo, as Heavy Flicker has the potential to miss if Ed is too far away or starts too late due to its high angle. However, Towa makes a slight error, as she holds Heavy for slightly too long and begins charging up a Psycho Knuckle. This is a problem, as Psycho Knuckle is too slow to hit the opponent before they crumple to the ground. Fortunately, Towa releases the button and cancels her Psycho Knuckle charge, resulting in a slightly delayed but successful Heavy Punch. This is the only part of this combo where she can afford to make this mistake.
0:07 Towa presses Parry to perform a Drive Rush and extend the combo. She lets go of Auto and presses Heavy by itself to perform a Heavy Flicker. This is an optimal choice, as it leaves her opponent in hitstun for long enough for Towa to combo into another Heavy.
0:08 Towa holds down Auto and presses Heavy to perform a Heavy Punch. This is not strictly necessary, as Heavy Kick can also connect at this range, but it is a good habit to do this on Modern Controls for reasons I’ll get into later. Note that, unlike before, Towa does not hold down Heavy at all and performs Heavy Punch without delay. This is important, as holding Heavy and charging Psycho Knuckle will allow the opponent to recover from hitstuns, dropping the combo.
0:09 Towa repeats the last two steps. She presses Parry and performs another Drive Rush. She lets go of Auto and presses Heavy to perform a Heavy Flicker, which is again the optimal choice. Towa follows up with another Heavy Punch, performed without delay.
0:10 The reason why it’s a good habit for an Ed player on modern controls to follow up Heavy Flicker with Heavy Punch is that it greatly simplifies the rest of the combo. From here, Towa performs 3 special moves and a Super to deal big damage - this combo deals damage equal to 55% of a normal character’s health, which is more than enough to finish the job here. While these special moves and the super can be performed with classic motion inputs, Towa only needs to hold down Auto and keep pressing Heavy to perform all of them. This is very simple, even mashing the Heavy button will get it done, but it’s important to keep in mind that Towa could only get to the point where these simple inputs were possible because she correctly performed each of the preceding steps of the combo. Towa correctly timed her Parry inputs to perform Drive Rushes, and had enough awareness to realize that she had enough Drive Gauge to perform 2 Drive Rushes. Towa correctly alternated between Heavy Flicker and Heavy Punch, and didn’t delay Heavy Punch where it mattered. Most crucially, Towa correctly assessed that this was a good situation to use all of her resources to defeat her opponent and secure the win. Overall, a very good showing.

She did your bnb go-to cashout combo. It's rather simple, but very effective and high damage combo that will probably take 50+ of your health. The impressive part was the fact that she Drive rush countered on that situation and actually landed the combo perfectly without dropping it in a match.
      Very impressive indeed.

I think a little context is needed here. Towa did a well-known BnB cashout combo for round enders with Ed, but it's commonly regarded to be particularly hard for beginners to do. Towa is playing on Modern, and while it has autocombos, the combo that Towa did HAS to be done manually without relying on autocombos. And the combo in question is ironically HARDER to do on Modern Controls than on Classic Controls. What made pros go wild was not only did she do it on Modern, but she did it in an actual, tournament, live-streamed match, which is probably the most stressful environment a beginner can be in.

not to downplay Towa's combo and diminish the value of this moment
But I noticed they're using Modern Controls, not classic controls
and the pros are still complimenting her for it!
so she must have done something impressive with Modern that they've not seen before

Apart from auto combo and one button super any other combo like this require to do the combo manually so its like a classic combo with some modern shortcut still hard to do for beginner in real situation

I think they're being encouraging, but realistically, if you look at Towa's inputs on the right side of the screen, you can see the exact buttons she's pressing. I'll sum it up here:
After the Drive Impact punish counter:
Auto button + Heavy button (2 simultaneous buttons)
Drive Parry cancel (Drive Parry single button, timing somewhat important)
      Heavy button (single button)
Auto button + Heavy button (2 simultaneous buttons)
Drive Parry cancel (Drive Parry timed button, timing somewhat important)
      Heavy button (single button)
Auto button + Heavy button (Mash until end of combo, includes automatic level 3 super)
Looking at as is, it's probably not very impressive to a slightly competitive amateur player (much less pros), but the fact that Towa has never played a fighting game before but can get this long string of buttons down as a complete newcomer shows the effort she put into learning and practicing in the game.
I think none of the pros expected her to do double Drive Parry extend (yes Drive Parry extend is easy, but the thing about this specific string is that it's very expensive and you would only do this to end a game, you can't just press the same string of buttons EVERYTIME you get an opening or you will very quickly put yourself in a terrible position because it leaves you in burnout).
So I think the pros are impressed about:
1 - She knows the optimal extension combo
2 - She is mentally aware enough to use it only to close out the game instead of doing it everytime and putting herself at a disadvantage
3 - The pros probably only expected her to do the Auto-Heavy combo (less mental stack requirement, but probably might not have ended the game)
