The Celica is starting to look a stunner. Dig that 1970s brown interior! And 100 points for the reuse of the Toyota plastic bags. Fun and interesting content as usual!
“Plane… F-16… afterburner… wingman… SQUIRREL!” 🤣 And another video of you tackling a task never previously performed with the result coming out like you’ve done it all your life… as usual. Thank you, Sarah. 👍👍👍
There are plenty of “professional” car shows we could be watching. I and many other viewers much prefer this rag tag 😜 production. This is easily my favorite car series on RUclips right now.
I’m an old retired contractor and Chief Building Official and I would be happy to work with you on your next shop. I can’t do much of the manual labor but I can direct your minions and I’m willing to work cheap or swap my time for your help on one of my project cars.
Now why didn't I think about that?! Painter here. I'll be your minion for work on my Supra, as if you have the time for that LOL!!@@traveling.down.the.road56
I’m very glad I found your videos, not only is your work ethic fantastic, your banter and humor just make these videos totally addictive. Great work, I love your channel!
I live next to an AFB. F-35's flyover all the time and just yesterday I looked up to see an F-35 racing away with full afterburner. I could see right up the pipe and that beautiful afterburner fireball twirling around. Made my day !
One of the best aspects of your videos is that you fast forward time-lapse through mundane tasks. This makes watching them rather 'quick' and easily viewed, and yet you manage to convey how the task was accomplished despite complications. Many youtubers take simply too much time to get through a task. Thanks for how you approach this editing issue. Well done, well thought out. Also, you're funny!
These are the kinds of videos/ series that need more views for the amount of effort put into them. I can’t imagine how much time, effort, money and frustration goes into a project like this. Absolutely amazing!
From junkyard to a brown vinyl back seat, the content is always varied, interesting and fun. With some occasional setbacks come a lot of little successes, a really worthwhile and exciting project. The car is turning out to be a solid gold beauty. Have a great weekend.
"I'm sorry for the for the sorry the terrible lightning and camera angles. This is not a film studio in Los Angeles, this is a [squeaky sound] shop in Tucson." I almost spit out my beer in mid swig. You [squeaky sound] rock Sarah!
Sarah, I have been following this Celica build from the start and really look forward to each update. I have to say it is so rare to see someone as meticulous as you, your attention to detail is admirable. I am SO impressed with this build, keep up the great work! You are going to end up with a fantastic car!
When glue that type of material try spraying both the rear valance and the vinyl. Then give them a few to minutes to flashing off. That will help pull the material to the board and hold it there. When wrapping around the edge to the back cut upside down triangles all the way around. Make the edges of the triangles that are closest the board are about an inch to an inch and a half wide. This will give enough material to attach to the board but not so much that the glue has a hard time hold the material tight over the years. You can do this with anything you cover. Oh, and this is cool project.
I'm so glad im not the only one that followed up the "it's getting hot in here" lol Always love the humor snuck in between all the incredible work and attention to detail!
Every time I strip down a 90s Subaru I take out as much hardware as I can. The interior hardware is always in the best shape, but not always the highest rated. The stuff that holds the doors on is usually high grade and in decent shape. The early 90s stuff has the green zinc you can't get anymore, later 90s and early 00s has the gold hardware, there's also older matte silver and then the later cars are mostly shiny silver. Nothing beats OEM hardware!
I love it that you recognize and pay attention to "period correct" but never let that override function. You have no problem modding something to suit your vision. Kudos! The only caveat I'd mentions is don’t ride in anything with a Capissen 38 engine, they fall right out of the sky. ;)
Regarding your question, which car, the MR2 or the Forester, to do first, my OCD kicks in: choose the one that in the end will free up more space in your shop. Optimizzze...
MR2 - We need to stick a fork in that project. You're not talking to yourself, you're talking to us, your viewers. Those Spoiler bolts for the Camaro work great. Excellent idea with the Toyota OEM parts bag, simply brilliant. Thx.😘
I totally get your attention to detail on re-zinc'ing those fasteners. Keeping it original and building a top notch car means attention to the small things. You definitely have that dialed in!
I see lots of requests for the MR2, but I would actually like to see some more work on the Forester. I'm going to enjoy watching either way, because your content is always interesting and entertaining - thank you so much for all the effort you put into making your content awesome!
Few people will admit to their mistakes, even fewer will admit their mistakes on you tube. I like your honesty and dedication. This from the the Jet Mech Vet.
Just a heads-up Sarah. When I have seen others use the upholstery glue, they will spray both the upholstery and the piece that it is being glued to and then they let both become tacky before mating them. That tends to help the glue stick better. One person who I have seen do some great upholstery work like this is Weird Beard here on RUclips. I bet you'll really enjoy his projects and attention to detail, too if you haven't seen his channel yet.
Yes, I was going to mention this. If it’s a contact adhesive, the way to use it is to lay out a sacrificial surface, like a piece of cardboard, and spray starting and stopping beyond the edges in overlapping stripes. You’re trying to create a smooth layer of cement, so you do not start and stop on the item itself because that builds up blobs. Then you do the same thing to the second item. When the cement on both is dry, you carefully adhere them together. This is a one-shot thing, no repositioning, as the bond will be strong and permanent. Roll from center to edges to assure full adhesion.
Geez, IF I ever had the means to buy a custom vehicle, I’d like for you to build it. The meticulous attention to detail is what makes your channel and builds so much better than what is seen on mainstream platforms. I enjoy your builds so much! Keep up the great work!
Sarah the way you handled your problem with the company that did the questionable work on the motor shows how classy you are. That is one of the many reasons I enjoy watching your channel. Don't change a thing and keep on filming.
Stunning work as ever, Sarah. This is all coming together nicely. I'm very impressed by your recycling of the plastic bags. Respect for that! More Gump content please.
So much nostalgia jammed into these videos. My first car was almost a 78 Celica GT. Ended up with a 79 Honda Prelude. Can't wait to see how the sound system is going to look and sound. Love this project! Thanks, Sarah!
I've been watching your videos for a little over a year and the fact that you show all the small stuff is WHY I watch. That, and you're funny! You have skills!
I dont think anyone can top your dedication using genuine oem materials for your projects is on point , but thats how you roll End result is a awesome vehicle ...rock on sarah
back in 91 we built a 76 celica with full frame a 283 with tunnel ram went wide body on it after we got dun it did not look the same lot of people did not think it was a celica. we street raced it for about 3 years then built a 77 camaro we went nuts on it that was one crazy car
My mum bought one in 1971. My uncle had to travel to Scotland to collect it. There were no Toyota dealers in England at the time. It got more attention than a Ferrari when we drove it.
Sarah, something you might want to consider. I had a 1974 Carolla SR5 with bolt-on flairs. I wanted to put a rear spoiler on but no one made one. I bought one for a Cellitca and had to make some modifications to make it fit. No matter how tight I got it to fit the trunk lid, water would leak through the bolt holes. look for some clear or black thin weatherstripping to put along the front of the spoiler to keep it from leaking. hope this helps you. Bob
It's great to see you every Friday and sometimes during the week. I remember that vintage of Celica when I was at my very first job working at a "Service Station" loved it then and even more now. Thanks for all you do.
Sarah, you are simply amazing, awesome and very talented, apart from being a workaholic. your vehicles aren't just cars, they become works of art of pure excellence. your dedication knows no bounds and some of your masterpieces should be preserved for posterity (perhaps, in time, a museum). I truly hope you hit a well deserved 1 million subs this year 🤗🤗🌹🌹
I would love to see this car, or another project like it, cross the Barrett Jackson Auction block and just bring down the house. Nice work Sarah! Cheers!
4:00 use contact cement, and clamps to hold down the pieces while the glue sets. If you do want to staple (and it is a great way of holding the material in place with the glue), you can always add an extra layer between the vinyl and the parcel shelf as filler, use a staple gun and pick out the shortest staples you can find at the hardware store. and measure them against the thickness of the shelf and foam filler.
The only spray glue that works well is from Keyston Bros. They will not ship but there may be a location near you. Restoration Supply does sell it online.
For future reference; the adhesive you want for jute and fabric is DAP Weldwood Contact Adhesive for Landau Tops & Trim - HHR Solvent Type (Spray Grade) Natural. Spray it out of a cheap Harbor Freight siphon gun that can be had for less than $15 and don't worry about cleaning it since it's only $15. When it quits on you, simply toss it and get another one. Spray both surfaces and you can use a heat gun to activate it after it flashes.
most quality zinc and cadmium plated hardware can be freshened up by scrubbing them, cleaning them and applying the conversion bath again. 10% sulphuric acid solution and around 30 grams sodium bicromate per liter.
4:51 more sound deadened...oh well, its an upgrade then. bonus. 4:55 new car smell. extra adhd points. you rock. The body work on the car looks great. this all your work too? Your brackets for holding the spoiler you could use fiberglass to get the radius and curves of the inner trunk surface. Then you could build it up to a flat inner surface to accept a flat washer / bolt head.
i'm glad the engine shop came correct and handled their business... love the junkyard field trips! miss the days when i had to go to the pick-n-pull on a regular basis.
Car guys used to use rubber cement and speaker paper to repair small rips in paper cone speakers. PS don't forget to add sound deadening material to passenger cabin.
Team Forester Gump for the future content video! I thoroughly enjoy seeing all of the JDM and STI goodies that have been getting put on there to make it more unique. My parents had one of those first gen Lumina's growing up too! It was the Euro model, but I can still hear that early 90's GM V6 lol. 😂 Pretty solid car and much better looking than the 2nd gen cars that came after it. They bought theirs used for a few hundred dollars and it went to over 300k miles before finally blowing a head gasket.
Sarah, I appreciate how detailed and knowledgeable you are . I enjoy all your channel posts. Plus your easy on the eyes, If you don't mind an old guys observation..... Stay safe and love the Celica.
The best thing about this channel is Sarah herself. The second best thing is the never ending love in the comments section. (RUclips commenters aren't all trolls?!?!?!?!. WTF?)
This channel’s vibe is amazing and, for what are surely many reasons, this particular resto mod absolutely summarizes the qualities of your aesthetics, work, approach, personality.. sort of all of it. And that is what I, and apparently 2/3 of a million others, really like about your work here. Plus this is a beautiful car and concept to start with. Epic work, really.
Great video. When I’m not suffering with my 89 240sx I enjoy watching other car people suffer. I busted out laughing when I heard “this isn’t some film studio in LA, it’s a shop in Tucson”. Thank you again for how fun working on cars can be. Best of luck with the build and excited for more. Cheers!
Woah, that Maxima at 0:56 is actually a fairly rare VE30DE! They were essentially(kinda) a VG30E with DOHC heads, only offered on the 3rd gen SE. They are a lot more narrow than the VG30DE, which would not fit in a FWD maxima. I have heard of people swapping these into early Sentras. I think it would be a neat swap for my Z31, if built for boost. Also, the KA was never an option in the Maxima.
Sarah. You are always amusing and entertaining. And thorough with your restoration. I wish I had the time and space and money to fix my BMW 2002 the way you are fixing this Celica. You and Sreten (M539 Restorations) are my favorite auto repair/ restoration channels now.
Even without an engine this little Celica is coming together so well now! Would love another video on the MR2 as we haven't seen much of it lately. I bet both vintage 'Yotas look so sick next to each other.
This channel is the live action version of my favorite saying. "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right"
"...even if no one will ever see it."
- Sarah (her whole life most likely)
MR2. Can never get enough. Please drive it for us.
The Celica is starting to look a stunner. Dig that 1970s brown interior! And 100 points for the reuse of the Toyota plastic bags. Fun and interesting content as usual!

Thanks!
Your obsession with detail goes a long way 🤗 it's what makes you unique, like this Celica.
LMAO. Preserving the label of the genuine Toyota bags you used to line the doors is trademark SnT. Your attention to detail is unmatched.
Not to mention placing it like they would have done at the factory,,,if Sarah worked there....
@@jfan4reva I would be none too surprised to find out that Sarah in a previous life was a Toyota factory mechanic. 👍

Paused at 3:19 to comment on “I probably shouda worn a respirator.” Yep I’ve said that too often myself. Love the work, please take care of yourself.
Stumbled upon your channel and have been loving your MR2 content. I had a Second Gen NA MR2. Absolutly loved it. I vote for more MR2 Content.
Love the way you track down original hardware and restore it. And the Toyota stickers on the door curtains, above and beyond !

Sarah, you're an inspiration! Much respect. 👍
You can tell how much Sarah loves being near the airbase and hearing all the different jets and choppers, always brings a smile to my face
"Salvage Yard" You didn't say Junk Yard. Thank you. 👍👍
Of course! Sarah doesn't put junk in her projects!
+1 for the Gump next! And fantastic work as always Sarah! Thanks for making these videos 💙
My uncle had a Lumina. Many memories in the back seat of that car. You brought back some old memories. Thank you!!!!

Very entertaining to watch you realize how awesome its turning out, your excitement is contagious!!
Love to see more on the MR2. Love that car.
I laughed out loud several times on this one. "Period plastic bag"...love it.

I'd like to see more content on Gump before the MR2.

Hello beautiful car chick ❣️
Outstanding at every level. One of my favourite cars from my senior school days. Thanks for your hard work on this…
I love how diligent you are about materials and parts that are oem or period correct.
I love watching this and the Subie. I think its really cool you add only OEM parts. It is quite the detail!
I owned a1979 Celica gt and a 1984 Celica gts loved them. Great times. Love your work! So enchanted !
Sarah, something you might want to consider. I had a 1974 Carolla SR5 with bolt-on flairs. I wanted to put a rear spoiler on but no one made one. As for speaker wires. would have been so much easier pre-carpet. too funny
the back seat area looks better than new. talk about giving something old a new start at life.
Great work you have done here. you are an awesome inspiration Mrs tuned.
I love this channel so much!!! I really appreciate the level and quality of work that goes into each video. Thank you so much Sarah!
I want to see the Forester Gump manual swapped! Or the MR2 final tune setup.
Your brackets for holding the spoiler you could use fiberglass to get the radius and curves of the inner trunk surface. Then you could build it up to a flat inner surface to accept a flat washer / bolt head.
Considering it’s your first time doing a lot of this stuff you seem to look natural and the outcome is always top notch! Keep it up!
i'm glad the engine shop came correct and handled their business... love the junkyard field trips! miss the days when i had to go to the pick-n-pull on a regular basis.

For the spoiler brackets, maybe look at aluminium flat bar...it's very strong yet quite flexible, so you can easily shape it to the trunk's curve...

You and Sreten (M539 Restorations) are my favorite auto repair/ restoration channels now.
That car is looking awesome! Forester video, please 🙏. You have one of the nicest ones out that isn't overly moded.
Even without an engine this little Celica is coming together so well now! Would love another video on the MR2 as we haven't seen much of it lately. I bet both vintage 'Yotas look so sick next to each other.
Sarah is 100% relentless at perfection ! If I only had 50% of her energy all my projects would be finished
Sarah is loco for logos. Love it.
Just so busy, plenty to get on with Sahra. You do what's important to you. Just love watching and catching up with your projects. ❤
I can't say enough about your attention to detail. You are amazing.
