I have a Palmetto tree newly planted close to the end of summer. Coming out of a mild South Carolina winter the fonds are starting to turn brown. The whole time up until about a month age the tree had nice dark green fonds. The tree did start to push some new fond growth then suddenly seemed to stop. It’s warming up here now in South Carolina so what do you think? Will the warmer weather save this Palmetto tree? Do I need to add fertilizer around it right now? Should I drill a 2 inch hole near the root ball and water it once or twice a week? Oh by the way it’s growing in clay soil as well. I have another Palmetto tree about 6 feet away from this one and it’s not having any issues at all and growing well. Both trees were planted at the same time. Everything I did to one tree I did to the other. So I don’t understand why it looks like it’s starting to die.

@@redsealjourneymanreviews6647 You are referring to Cordyline australis and not palm trees. Many people mistake them for Palm trees, when they are not. They are far less cold tolerant than Trachycarpus palms which are planted everywhere in Victoria
@@redsealjourneymanreviews6647 Cordyline australis are common all over our south Islands and they are only hardy to around 18 F or so. Prolonged freeze like we had nukes them. Watering won't do a thing. They already had ample moisture so the next step is try to encourage new growth from the trunk if there is indeed life in them. You can cut them and hope for the best and some times they will send out spears, however if they are much closer to death then cutting will not do a thing

BananaJSSI nice thanks
Did this regrow?
Unfortunately if faded away. If there is life left in the trunk then for sure they will push new growth out. Kind of like the Palm tree we have that was cut to nearly ground level with a chainsaw, it looks amazing over two years later
hi from victoria our palms got savaged and i hope it lives
What happened to them?
@@BananaJSSI leaves fall down
@@redsealjourneymanreviews6647 You are referring to Cordyline australis and not palm trees. Many people mistake them for Palm trees, when they are not. They are far less cold tolerant than Trachycarpus palms which are planted everywhere in Victoria
@@BananaJSSI dang
@@redsealjourneymanreviews6647 Cordyline australis are common all over our south Islands and they are only hardy to around 18 F or so. Prolonged freeze like we had nukes them. Trachycarpus fortunei palms on the other hand are far more cold hardy and are long term here. You can see Trachycarpus palms growing all over. The town of Langford is full of them and they were not fazed by the December freeze, but the Cordylines certainly were. I was there to shoot a video a few weeks ago
This works guys i swear.
It can indeed work for sure
Oh, it works! See my pics on Twitter (Deplorable L Arroyo)
Right on! I have previous videos I have shot of me doing this years ago and those palms have nice full crowns now
Has it grown?
That one is definitely dead, Didn't do a thing after I cut it.
@@BananaJSSI Sad. What about the "urine" thing? Supposedly watering them with urine works. I saw it on another youtube video but I couldn't understand what the guy was saying? I believe he said he mixes urine with water ... but again, I couldn't make out his accent.
@@earthwindfireable I never heard of the urine thing. This palm was indeed dead and did not regrow. I did an update video on it. I have done this with other palms in the past and they are doing well. I also have videos of them here. I didn't know I had an accent lol
When you remove the meristem, of course it wont grow lol
That Eucalyptus trees surrounding the palms are the problem, it will kill everything, and it use a lot of water. That palm doesn't stand a chance.
We cut down all of those Eucalyptus trees on Feb 12 and the palms have taken off
My date palm dead by over watering
Sorry to hear that
Hey I cant see anything but a picture & you talking🤔🤔🤔
This is clearly a video. I just watched it
Ok it's sumthn wrng on my end...I am hvn prblms with keeping my majestic palms alive & I hvn done everything I cld...I just dnt hv a green thumb😣😢
@@swaggalicious3609 Majesty palms are difficult to grow as house plants because they are prone to spider mites
@@BananaJSSI omg ok is tht why the riot at the roots?
So what can ai do abt it because I truly wld love to see them in my house & be able to take care of them the best way I can.
BananaJSSI how can I keep them mites out????
@@swaggalicious3609 Mites love dry warm air and hate moisture. Always mist your indoor palms with water.. Mites don't like it
You had new ones coming up, all you did was kill your tree
No, didn't kill the tree, since it was already near death. Have you seen my video of the Trachycarpus palm we have that cut to nearly ground level with a chainsaw? You should see it now over 2 years later, it looks amazing. This method works if there is life left in the trunk. I know that for a fact
Why don’t you water them
Watering won't do a thing. They already had ample moisture so the next step is try to encourage new growth from the trunk if there is indeed life in them. You can cut them and hope for the best and some times they will send out spears, however if they are much closer to death then cutting will not do a thing
can i do this to a pygmy date palm? ive seen a lot that says cutting it this way will kill it.. but the palm i received was absolutely 100% dried out. it only had the smallest bit of green in just a couple of spots so i decided to try to save it.
i cut the date palm this way but again everywhere else i have looked has said that cutting the palm from the top will kill it entirely.
Unfortunately it won't ork on all palms, I have seen it done on Butia and Washingtonia as well, but Phoenix I have never seen it done
@@BananaJSSI fingers crossed then
