Repairing Bally Curling Guard Boots #2

These boots are from the newer generation (before 20/21 though). The soles are cut extremely narrowly, and exposes the crépe rubber rand to pebbles and gravel, causing the rand to wear down fast. New soles need to be wider to better protect the rand.
They also get a new slider, lining on the tounge, and a thorough cleaning.

Got the same rubber soles on my mountainbiking shoes as the pegs in the pedals had gone thru the old. However this new is kind of slippery. Can anything be done to make the rubber more grippy?
