Fast food used to be a treat here in the states. I remember my folks (who both worked) ) late 60s early 70s, would buy it for us kids on a Friday night when we would all go out to the drive in movies. Kentucky fried chicken once or twice a year. Pizza 3 or 4 times a year. Chinese rarely. Now people eat these (food treats) as dinner, and for most of their meals?
Also, my folks wouldn't dream of serving soda with any meal, except for summer BBQs and picnics, a weekend treat. Jeez, soda used to be expensive, and you never got free refills. I raised my kids the same way. (though it could be trying at times, when most of their friends were raised on it) I'm tired of being visually assaulted every time I leave the house. Most have no shame and flaunt it with tattoos and skimpy clothing. Its just unbelievable how quickly obesity has become the norm. Make time to cook at home once in a while, and when your kid is hungry between meals, give them an apple or an orange to suffice. Its OK and used to be normal to feel hunger between meas. Its just awful the things I see kids eating, that their parents choose to give them, as they walk around the grocery store and streets. Should they really be eating while walking? I'm really beginning to think, now that there are so many obese people. How in the world are they going to raise normal weight and able children, when they themselves refuse to see the light. Just sickening. Stop buying all that processed sugary garbage, and reeducate yourself on eating life giving foods. Its really not that difficult. Stop eating so much!!! Sorry for the rant. Just spent!

I understand you perfectly. Even as a kid during the 90s, I remember we were advised to not consume too much fast food. We mostly ate at home, and if we did eat out we went to decent good quality restaurants.
I even remember when fat people were outcasted and bullied, but now it's the reverse and on thin people cause overweight / obese now represent the majority

Not sure how it is in other parts of the country. But I know at my high school my senior year, they replaced all the sugary food you could get at the school store with low fat and no calorie food including barbecue and potato chips (somehow) and drinks that were basically water with actual flavor (delicious I might add) and most other things. Not to mention we have a closed campus. So kids couldn't just get in their cars and head to fast food joints. I hope other schools are following suit. Overall, we do have a lower than national average obesity rate.

I remember it too. When in school, very rarely as a treat, we went to have a hamburger and the ordinary one back then was what is now their smallest. I still order that one today, it's never shown on the menu as a "meal" so you have to ask for it specifically. Same with fries 🍟 the smallest one has to be asked for specifically. I've actually never eaten the McNuggets or the donuts 🍩 they seem unhealthy 🤔. And we don't have KFC in my country insofar I know, maybe they don't sell so well over here.

In France we have a current issue: fast food and US food corp industries are taking over the food market and the "Bistros" Produits du terroir" places progressively vanishes.
When standardized food arrives in a nation it also tend as part of the vicious circle to uniformise and destroy the cultural gastronomy and legacy of a whole country.

Although many korean people still like vegetables, there are several healthy problems among children one of the reasons is that they are not get used to eat vegetable. Their vegetable consumption(is spell right?? I forgot, sorry) is much less than that of adults(over 20years). I think it results from changing Food consumption trend(ex)korean traditional style=>enjoying fast food trend)

In Greece the porblem is a little bit different: we dont have so many fast foods, as much as we got restaurants with cheap meals. Is not that we are eating like 2 or 3 burgers but we eat so much meat. Greece is having the buggest childhood obesiety issue in Europe. Is like we get a gyro or a kebap, is ok thats not that fatty, but when you wake up with breakfast go at school take a sandwitch then after school ice cream or gyros and later food at home such as pastichio, bollognez or meat for the rest of the day. Or even in cellebrations when we are making barbeques in school and after straight again barbeque at home

Koreans eat more veggies because meat is twice as expensive as in the U.S. They don't have the land mass to raise nearly the cattle livestock as we do. My buddy from SK came over for a couple weeks to Ohio & took me to several chain steak houses because the steaks were only half as much as they were in SK. And he enjoyed every bite of them.

So healthier foods are cheap people are just to lazy to prepare their own food (and no I'm not calling you lazy. Just in general. Yea I hate when I'm jonesing for kale chips I have to measure it out (I never eat the whole bag in one sitting) measure out the season-all (gotta watch the sodium) and then bake for 10 minutes (I don't use oil anymore got to watch the sat fat too but an olive oil spray)

so even tho south east asia eat more rice/carbs,it is still can be normal portion (maybe 300 gram-600 gram per day per person depends on people it self,it same as 100-200 gram bread)
as long not eating "too much" fat and "too much" sugar,it will be safe tho
i don't to much like something too greasy or too sweet except if it honey (it is have many beneficial) and eat it around 3-6 table spoon per day) sometimes i'm not eating sugar like month

But we don’t talk about WHY we eat too much. It’s because we are told to eat a low fat diet, so we stuff more carbs and starches down our pie holes and never “feel full”. So we keep eating and eating and eating. Fat is not the enemy. Sugar is.

Why they did not take into account the United States where you can see obese people in electric carts very often weighing more than 300 or 500 pounds 🤔

Traditional food like rice and curries are also high calorie energy dense foods. Good for farmers who spend a lot or energy but not so much for average knowledge worker. Obesity has nothing to do with fast food rather taking in more than you spend.

I cannot say that I was shocked when the United States was mentioned. I had originally thought that we had the biggest problem with obesity because that has now become your stereotypical American. However, I was surprised to see that developing countries also have a big problem. I think this might have been because I was thinking more along the lines of third world, impoverished countries that do not have much food to begin with. Until about a month ago I thought that obesity had to do with just plain laziness and ingesting too much food, but now I have come to know that there are other biological factors mixed in. Regardless of that I am amazed by the increase in the amount of obese individuals over the past thirty years.

Ben Brown there are a few biological factors but for most people especially children though young adults that are becoming obese it’s eating junk( super, red mean, no veggies etc..) and not doing some form of exercise. It’s hard for a lot of people but if they start young then it will be worth it. Being very over weight or obese causes depression, body issues( mentally an physically) and shortens life span.
