I used to listen to this everyday years ago and cry my eyes out. Ahhh nostalgia is a bitch. But I'm not crying anymore.. I'm at peace with my old self.
I just spent the past 30 minutes typing in bits of lyrics into google trying to rediscover this gem. That half hour of frustration was well worth Ithe time!!!!
Heres my opinion on what this means: It's been pointed out that this is about a strained father/son relationship and the video and lyrics do match up to that. The video showcases a struggle in which the cause is invisible, but you see the aftermath of the damage. That leads me to believe its mainly an internal struggle with himself, and him fighting to get through as shown in the child in the video. When he gets knocked down and the vines start to overtake him, once again internal struggle. The vines would have continued to grow, and making it impossible to get back up. This is the struggle consuming him, and he made the choice to get up and fight back. In the final scene, he escapes and jumps into the water. It could symbolize purification and a release from worries, and escape. The video very clearly made sure we knew the woods was the battleground in the video. To go from a completely wooded area to water drives that point home for me. It's a change of scene, a new start.
HeartCoreHayley Love the interpretation, very insightful. Although for some reason I get the feeling its not a father-son relationship, but mother-son. The line about finding a millionaire and silver hair makes me feel like its his mother trying to find a rich new husband, leaving him behind. Either way...
+HeartCoreHayley I always thought it had something to do with a wife or girlfriend (lyrically), but now that I've seen the video your description makes WAY more sense. That silver hair line made no sense before, but adding in +Tyler Lori 's revelation that he's referring to his mother fixes that
The Early November's forte are their lyrics, and that's why we love them. I have nearly cried at their live performances because of the depth they have. Shoot, they could stop playing all the music and hear the whole crowd still singing every single word.
This is one of, no, the best live band out there. If you have a chance to see em, DONT HESITATE. The whole bands stage presence is Incredible, and Ace is not only a master at music, even his commentary is nice to hear. So much energy, they'll give you one of the best performances you've ever seen!!
I have been listening to The Early November since i was a young 16 year old sophemore listening to Sunday Drive, or perhaps Baby Blue to get through the ever so tough, but sometimes "Ever So Sweet", high school breakups. (I know yall liked that one) I am now 23 and have never once stopped listening to these guys. Great music never dies. Meanwhile...so called "artists" like Iggy, Nikki, and Drake are leading the music industry. When will people realize the music industry sells imagery, not music. It is a sad world we live in.
I will never forget junior year of high school going to Warp Tour & getting a free CD from it & hearing this song. Literally YEARS later & I still think this song is a complete masterpiece.
It took my 10 yr old son one listen to this song to get him to cry. He thought of his dad and all of his broken promises and the pain he caused him when he walked away from us. He cried in pain. He listens to this song almost everyday now and he doesn’t cry anymore. He found relief in a song he could relate to. I never cried so hard to hear his pain in words.
+Antlion161 it doesn't get views because we have shitty ass mainstream artists e.g. justin bieber, miley cyrus, taylor swift, ed sheeran, adele, lorde, one direction... its so sad...it literally makes me sick.
I CONCUR!! He makes the song and meaning come together and I get goosebumps at times. Ive seen it like 5 times now. Outstanding direction and production!
Glad to see Ace's Hagstrom make an appearance again, beautiful guitar, beautiful song and video. This solidify's this bands presence in our scene again. Love the early November...
Okay so none of you guys are going to believe me but my dad grew up with the people in this band. my dad was also in many bands and I feel so happy reading through these comments seeing how much you guys love them.:)))))
This is honestly the most beautiful song I have ever heard. And I am glad it's not popular, because then I wouldn't get the peace of being able to listen to a song not many else know of.
Just mainstream in general, I listen to mostly every genre because I eventually opened up my tastes for music and gave everything a try, and I'm glad I did that..
I remember this song was promoted by RUclips and put at the top of the next suggested video during the summer of 2012. Finally relented one day and said alright I’ll give it a listen, it’s been downloaded to my Apple Music ever since than
i´ve been fallowing this band since i was 15 now 11 years from then this sounds extremely awesome, thank you rise records for bringing the cool bands from back then.
This is one my the only bands i've heard that the album wasn't boring, i can listen to the whole album and enjoy it and like get a mind travel while the musix relax me, for example: If i'm in the bus and there's a lot of people around, i can listen this album, close my eyes and it's like nobody's there and i'm nowhere. Love this band
If you didn't realize, The Early November are VETERANS. Rise Records appreciates them greatly. They continually make good music, and good music means happy record companies. It's not selling out, it's smart business.
God damn i love this band. there is not one song they have written that isn't the most amazing music and form of art / story / expression. When my musical career resurrects from the ashes and takes one more step forward I'm going to collaborate with these guys. Also Copeland. I would love a three way Collab. I am not worthy but it will happen.
SAME. 16 years man!!! I'm still hooked on the Drive-Thru Records roster after all these years! I saw them last week here in Vancouver 🇨🇦 in this intimate venue and it was beautiful. 🍁
to all the n00bs to The Early November: enjoy this class act of a band. around for nearly a decade now, they are the forefathers of this generation's music
This band is so underrated
@DDrummer what a weirdly selfish thing to say.
@DDrummer being recognized is not the same thing as being a "mainstream corporate sellout." You should wish success for them.
This is most underrated music band till today. Absolutely.
They’re the greatest
All the real ones are always under appreciated.
We're so lucky this band got back together. Their two albums post-reunion are incredible.
The chills. Every time. For so many years, I’ve loved this band.
Omg, looking for this comment 🥲💓
I really hope they bring out a new album soon. All their albums have been amazing and uniquely different.
I used to listen to this everyday years ago and cry my eyes out. Ahhh nostalgia is a bitch. But I'm not crying anymore.. I'm at peace with my old self.
Same, but three years ago for me
Royal Frostie dude payback is a bitch
2024, still this song plays on repeat
Popped on the Warped Tour 2013 compilation CD the other day on a whim, and I completely forgot how incredible this song is!
I just spent the past 30 minutes typing in bits of lyrics into google trying to rediscover this gem. That half hour of frustration was well worth Ithe time!!!!

This band has always been great, but this album is nothing short of a goddamn masterpiece.
I can literally hear the singer's strained relationship with his father in his voice.
Dave Cohoe i like how you let us know exactly what was going on.lol.
Why did it take me so long to find this band?!
idk but check out baby blue. their first hit
China Club...their first hit was Every Nights Another Story.
Same here.. I had to search up on google "rock song tell me why" took me a while
@@jonathanserrano4534 I came from SWS
Armor For Sleep and The Early November dropping new music. Awesome 2022.
Been a fan since 2003 and Ace’s voice and lyrics take me back to high school. Makes me tear up.
The Early November's forte are their lyrics, and that's why we love them. I have nearly cried at their live performances because of the depth they have. Shoot, they could stop playing all the music and hear the whole crowd still singing every single word.
I can't believe i just listen to this song like a year ago and i didn't know there was a music video for it!
I have been looking for this song everywhere!!!!
Zeta Abernathy hi
This is one of, no, the best live band out there. If you have a chance to see em, DONT HESITATE. The whole bands stage presence is Incredible, and Ace is not only a master at music, even his commentary is nice to hear. So much energy, they'll give you one of the best performances you've ever seen!!
One of the best bands EVER! Just when you miss them, you all get back together for one more AMAZING record!
This song is definitely for anyone who’s been abandoned. Whether it be a parent, friend, sibling, or lover. We’ve all been abandoned
I'm addicted to this song!
I'm addicted to you.
I literally listened to this song everyday about 30 times last summer. I love it so much
"Literally listened to this song every day of summer" would be 90 days, not 30 days
it was fate
Love that they still sound the same after all these years. Amazing, and Ace just keeps getting better looking!
I have been listening to The Early November since i was a young 16 year old sophemore listening to Sunday Drive, or perhaps Baby Blue to get through the ever so tough, but sometimes "Ever So Sweet", high school breakups. Sunday Drive will always have a place in my heart, first song i ever learned to play on guitar and sing.
God this song got me to tears... Right through the heart.. Love this band, love this song
Amazing song... Been listening to these guys for almost 15 yrs now. They're from Hammonton NJ which is only bout half hr from where I'm from
I will never forget junior year of high school going to Warp Tour & getting a free CD from it & hearing this song. Literally YEARS later & I still think this song is a complete masterpiece.

Lia Miles they have been big since 03 your a little late
Been listening to the whole of imbue on repeat for weeks
That is the best intro i have ever heard
Why can't things like this be played on the radio? This is what good music is
This should have at least 1 million views. Don't make sense that it doesn't
In my opinion, a song like this doesn't deserve 1 million views. It deserves at least 15 million views :P
+Antlion161 it doesn't get views because we have shitty ass mainstream artists e.g. justin bieber, miley cyrus, taylor swift, ed sheeran, adele, lorde, one direction... its so sad...it literally makes me sick.
+Sniper Chick26 couldn't have said it any better
well would ya look at it now :D
I CONCUR!! He makes the song and meaning come together and I get goosebumps at times. Ive seen it like 5 times now. Outstanding direction and production!

Just like the wind, you're gone 😔
Really cool video concept

This song is sooo awesome. After the break they keep getting better! The album is so much more than expected and their best album to date.
This is my 2.5 year old favorite song. We listen multiple times a day
They are still underrated just as they have been for the last 10 years. Amazing band! Ace will continue to kill it.
