  • In this video, I discuss the first stage in healing trauma. That is establishing physical and emotional safety. I talk about how childhood trauma can lead to many adverse behaviors. How those behaviors can be addressed. I talk about the need to find a positive therapist. About finding a safe place to begin doing the work of healing.

Really reassuring, especially when you described the healing journey as an uphill struggle which you can sometimes lose traction from, making you worry that your healing is in danger but it isn't. Once you get on that healing path, improve your emotional literacy, build boundaries, learn to relax and take time out, give yourself time and learn to validate and love yourself, there is only healing however treacherous that path becomes from time to time. If you can be gentle and kind to yourself and re parent that inner child, he/she will re-emerge and you will meet your true self for the first time in a very long time. That part of healing is very exciting-like meeting someone you love for the very first time.

I've recently been diagnosed with PTSD. The only videos I have found even remotely helpful so far are yours, so thank you for sharing. Not only are you helping to inform others, but it's comforting to have someone discuss it who is also dealing with these issues as well, instead of Dr. John Doe, Trauma Specialist who probably hasn't gone through what they know so much about

    Just for the information...
Dr. Gabor Mate developed new healing modality called "Compassionate Inquary" and it has helped many people heal their traumas.

I appreciate what you said about suicidal thoughts. Reminding yourself that they are ONLY thoughts and will pass eventually. Also noticing that with time, they pass with shorter duration. It’s so easy to panic and condemn ourselves when they come up! I’m working on this. Thank you for the reassuring explanation.

Listening to these videos, having just found your channel, has been a calming, clear oasis amidst some of the 'louder' offerings I've seen.
I am 60 and diagnosed myself 3 years ago, after 30 plus years of misdiagnosis, unhelpful and incorrect labelling.
I did not know the meaning of terms such as emotional flashbacks. I had assumed flashbacks were the visual memories that suddenly appear.
For the first time, I get it. As you can imagine, that's been quite a moment.
Now I also know why all previous therapies failed. I would spend so much of the time in sessions in full dissociated freeze mode.
A term I now understand properly.
    Click.
Every single missing piece of the puzzle is now on the table, dusty pieces, long abandoned and feared lost forever, have been retrieved from underneath the furniture and out of the dark corners all assembled in one place,, ready to be fitted together. However long it takes.
    Thank you.

This is extremely helpful... maybe more helpful than anything else I've ever seen. I've been told that I might be have bipolar disorder, ADHD, and multiple autoimmune disorders. I really feel that the root if it all is CPTSD. So many of our symptoms are the same regardless the diagnosis it almost seems as if it's the degree of symptoms but at the core trauma causes so many mental and even physical disorders. Healing and hugs to all of you ❤❤❤

I have complex- ptsd, major depression, anxiety and ocd. Trying to find a counselor that knows and understands the difference between complex- ptsd and just ptsd. I need a calm quiet environment without the chaos and stress. I need my own place and space to myself. Some doctors and counselors don't have the experience or knowledge to help people who are struggling and suffering with complex-ptsd.

I finally know what is wrong. I have been hospitalized 4 times because of this, been though months of intensive treatment for my trauma, and have been on an alphabet of different psychiatric medications with no improvement. In fact after all this extensive treatment I finally broke and lost my job. Cptsd was never suggested. They professionals didn’t know. I’m 44 years old and for the first time I have hope.

Personally I've had better luck confronting and acknowledging the trauma first, and that helped me rid myself of distractions. I went to the root, but everybody has their own way. And of course this journey will never stop.

@Rafael Dejesus if your logic is true, I should off myself? And leave my child to the state?

    • @valerievaleri
      @valerievaleri Год назад

@Rafael Dejesus I have severe multiple chemical sensitivity and live with my 12 year old who is school and comes home everyday with with lots of fragrance and chemicals everyday. My home reeks so I have to take max dose of gabapentin to not have severe hyper smell, seizures, tremors, torturous inflammatory responses (so bad my neck broke). I can’t even be in the same room as my child nor leave my apartment. And we are all on our own So yeah, offing myself is a daily thought. My phone got disconnected today. We are out of food. This is a horrible existence.

Yes--I agree that IFS--Internal Family Systems--really seems to understand the CPTSD experience and its development better than most other approaches. The person who developed it, Richard Schwartz, is all over RUclips and is a really clear, compassionate, no-BS presenter. Just wanted to second the recommendation.

Yes I will get right on finding a secure living area as a single mother with no child support. I feel that so much of this is based on privilege, please excuse my temper I do not mean it aimed at you. I am just so tired of there being absolutely no solution for those of us who don't have the money to just pick up and move somewhere else.
