A very comforting idea about the small child STILL trying to help us the only way it knows how. I have never heard this before. Of course a child would offer immature immediate self soothing solutions. What other kind of help could a child offer? So much healthier than believing we are beset by devil's. Also gives us the option of thanking the child for the offered support but then moving to an adult place of coping.

You may be interested in reading a book titled 'Homecoming: Reclaiming and Healing Your Inner Child' by John Bradshaw. It's about this small child inside, that is wounded. And it's also about various defense mechanisms applied when being exposed to traumatic events in childhood.

“that child is trying to protect you still. thank him or her for what they are trying to do, even if it is making your life miserable. acknowledge that that little kid is doing the best they can. show them the love and understanding that should have been shown to you.” I’ve been in such a rut because for over a decade I’ve known I’m traumatized, I just can’t remember or understand why. i live with debilitating self doubt and triggers and panic attacks and i am only comfortable when I’m alone, which is all well and good and vaguely manageable when i’m single or living alone, but i recently moved in with a wonderful man and i’ve gone numb again. i keep beating myself up for not knowing why i’m like this and even being like this but i think perhaps saying thank you to my child self may help for the time being. your videos are so comforting and helpful. they’ve been more helpful than anything i’ve found while searching for answers for years upon years.

I am a recovering addict, I used for 20 years. I have now been clean almost 7 years. This makes sense to me about living in my addiction and the hopelessness I felt. Like nothing was ever going to change, but it did change. Sometimes even now it is hard to recognize that, I get triggered and have been made aware of them, but sometimes they creep up on me. My inner self is not a child, its a teenager. The me when I started using drugs and she is still trying to protect me.

It's like listening to my inner self 20 years from now. Everything is so spot on and clearly expressed, there are many times I exclaim while watching "Yes! He gets it! Someone actually understands - someone who lived it."

Yes this feeling of learned helplessness has plagued me my entire adult life. I feel like that elephant that could easily break free (my friends keep reminding me), but I've been conditioned to not even try. It's very sad and difficult to overcome

Your videos are well done and very helpful especially when I’ve lost perspective due to my traumatic experiences. I lived through eighteen years of violence, humiliation, parental drug and alcohol abuse, sexual humiliation and degradation, financial insecurity, guilt, shame and fear. I developed a lot of ineffective reflexes to try and compensate for the neglect and humiliation. I’m much older no but continue to experience CPTSD on a daily basis. It never goes away.

Very true ,thanks for making me aware of conditioning and how can we deal with it as an adult.
I experience this with my mother I am conditioned as child that if I dispute with her she may try to harm herself., which now as an adult I know she will not but the fear is so intense that I don't want to cross her or hurt her.

Yes, please continue making videos! I heard you say in one that you were disappointed by the response being less than you had expected. It can take a long time for any channel to gain a foothold. Don't let that hold you back. Your content is high quality and very helpful. I suspect it may also be therapeutic for you. Even if you cover different topics, if you get something positive from producing them, don't stop. You are likely having a more significant and positive impact on people's lives than you may recognize. 🤗
