      I think we’re talking about the fantasy where they primarily focus on solo works but come together for an album every few years in the 1970’s. Instead, we got the real life where they weren’t able to leave the 1960’s with all 4 of them in.

    • @goplad1
      @goplad1 Год назад +49

      That is a bit of hyperbole, isn't it? How can one stretch their imagination to include the Beatles influence on punk, goth, and metal? I don't think so. You must give credit to the artist who created music in those genres. With your line of thinking music as we know it today would not have existed without the Beatles. That is ridiculous. There was wonderful rock and roll music well before the Beatles. When you listen to '60s groups like the Doors, Jefferson Airplane, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience do you hear blatant Beatles influence in their music? I don't. These artists forged their own styles that influenced others in a way different from the Beatles. Let's give credit to other artists for being original.

    • @turnerIott
      @turnerIott Год назад +26

      That’s a pretty big stretch. They certainly had an undeniable influence on modern music, more than any other band. However, you can’t really claim that they were directly responsible for genres like punk or goth. You could argue that they had the first metal song with Helter Skelter, but most of the other genres you listed were developed on their own. I know the video included Happiness is a Warm Gun as prog rock, but the impact the Beatles has on the genre is nothing compared to bands like Yes or King Crimson.

      @@goplad1 "With your line of thinking music as we know it today would not have existed without the Beatles."
      Yes, that's the argument we're making. Music certainly would've been a bit different without them, that's the thing. Someone else would've had to carry the slack. Certain innovations would've been delayed for months, or years, maybe even decades, but it's also possible that something like goth music could've been invented earlier. (Also if I'm not mistaken I think the artists you mentioned have cited the Beatles as an influence, at least some of them.)
      It's not so different from imagining situations had certain events in history gone differently. What if Henry Ford didn't lower the price of the Model T? What if the Atlanta Falcons hadn't collapsed in Super Bowl LI? What would happen to France if Joan of Arc hadn't gotten to be the soldier she was? We could speculate all sorts of things--the changes wouldn't be enormously or dramatically altered, but there would be nonetheless significant differences. But I really do think music history would've taken a different course without the Fab Four.

    Imagine if you added the solo discographies, Wings, Traveling Wilburys, George Martin’s soundtrack arrangements, anthology outtakes/alternates, remixes, etc. There’s a good chance you could somehow argue every major “genre” or style know throughout history (given a little leeway). Just a perfect musical collection.

    Some dude in the comments already mentioned great ideas for a remastered Queen video and I would love to see it, but if you're interested in making more of these with new bands here are my suggestions:
    Deep Purple
    The Beach Boys
    The Doors
    Radiohead
    Frank Zappa
    Genesis
    Rush
    The Who
    Yes
    RHCP (I'm honestly not too deep in their discography but they get suggested all the time so why not)
    Metallica
    Prince
    King Crimson
    The Velvet Underground
    The Grateful Dead
    The Rolling Stones
    Muse
    Nirvana
    King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizards (I'm not too deep into their discography, again, but from what I've got from their fans I know that they played a lot of different genres)
    Update: I listened to KGATLW's Omnium Gatherum for the first time and holy crap, they definitely belong in one of these videos

    • @snerdterguson
      @snerdterguson Год назад

      Another good one would be Grateful Dead, you could even do a list of different genres within the same songs. They played almost everything it seemed, being one of the few huge bands that could say they did some jugband numbers, as well as bluegrass, disco, English folk ballads, proto-punk, acid rock. I think there's a fair chance they may have invented a couple genres. Or at least are the gold standard (jam rock).
      Love seeing the King Crimson shoutout. I'm not that familiar with their catalog, but I've seen a couple vids of live shows, and they were fantastic.

    • @juanaf8
      @juanaf8 Год назад

      @@snerdterguson you're completely right! As for King Crimson, you should definitely check out the rest of their catalogue. Even if they're best known for making prog, they have dabbled in a hell lot of different genres from heavy metal to industrial and even pop.

    Although people like to hang labels on practically everything, from music to movies and beyond, the bottom line is clear. No other group in recorded history has created songs in so many genres. The Beatles defy categorization and as Harrison astutely observed, " The Beatles will exist without us. "
