- A 4.5 mile commute home through the core of the Christmas Lake Effect Blizzard over Buffalo NY. Snowfall rates of 2”/hr and winds gusting over 65mph creating pure whiteout conditions. By mid evening roads across the city are becoming heavily drifted and travel is impossible. These conditions raged across the city for 30 consecutive hours.

I grew up in Wisconsin and I remember some crazy ass blizzards, but Buffalo is truly insane
That is INSANITY too even be outside of your home. I would NEVER place my life in danger, specifically for work, where I am sure the supervisors, managers are home nice and safe.🤷🏾♀️
It looked like a grocery store, and if so, the manager would be the last one to leave. At least that's how I experienced it in my 46 years in retail grocery.

Great video! That area is amazing. You can be driving on the Thruway and got from sunny skies to whiteout conditions in a few miles.

Can't tell you how many times I've been stuck in one of these on the way home to Indiana from Massachusetts or vice versa. A couple of times I actually stuck it out and drove through the whole thing but learned my lesson as I got older and just stopped and got hotels

Trying to make it home. No travel bans in morning and everyone left for work. Storm hit and everything closed midday. everyone was trying to make it home before dark.

@@emergencyman2362That's what he said... no travel bans went into effect in the morning AFTER everyone had left for work. Lack of people meant no customers, no customers led to businesses closing midday. Meaning all those folks who were at work BEFORE the travel bans were in effect had to make it home somehow.

If everyone skipped work every time it snowed, nothing would get done 5 months of the year 😂

One should be indoors, at home during this - preferably with ample supplies to carry on for several days if necessary. Being outside, even in a vehicle, is not good.

Hey Buffalo, Ontario here. You know better than that. Hope you had an overnight kit in your car. Isn't your insurance cancelled if you're caught driving on closed roads?
No... at least not any worthwhile insurance. Besides, if you aren't home when the travel bans are put in effect then what else do they expect you to do? Staying in your car in a blizzard isn't a good answer. Even law enforcement won't hassle you for trying to get home if you were at work when the bans took effect.
Get new insurance, 😅
