Thanks for always caring about The People, Sen Sanders! The words ‘for profit’ scare me when it comes to medical care and I’m in the group that has Obamacare but still cannot afford copays in an emergency. Our system of healthcare is a failure.

Bernie Sanders is a National Treasure for turning our eyes on the big money corruption of our government that benefits the wealthiest which then burdens everyone else. The reason healthcare is so expensive is you have to buy your healthcare at the company store where you get locked into the system and they can charge whatever they want and offer substandard service with huge deductibles.
This is why we need to go to a pure competitive free market system where people can walk away and go someplace else if they don't like the prices or services.
Democrats put on wage and price controls in WW2. Which forced companies to offer healthcare to draw in workers. Then Obama in his infinite incompetence codified into law buying your healthcare at the company store. And Bernie voted for Obama's unaffordable care act.

Thank you Senator Sanders, for telling it like it is. The U.S. is in an ugly situation. Something that many see as a side issue but I see as vital is NOT ONLY does Germany, for example, invest in their primary care - they also PROVIDE TUITION-FREE TRAINING of medical personnel in most situations. Grant it, not all - but in most medical schools the students seeking medical doctoral degrees in Germany are NOT facing HALF a MILLION DOLLARS on the average in tuition costs to get their medical certifications - as is happening in the United States. So the country of Germany is investing in the TRAINING of the medical personnel as well. In NURSING FIELDS and GERIATRIC CARE as well. Another thing the country insists on is that EVERY PERSON RESIDING WITHIN GERMANY - MUST - HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE. It is required by law. If you cannot afford it, there are programs to help. It's not cheap for everyone - there are different degrees of coverage - but the BASICS MUST BE COVERED. Those are some takeaways of information that the U.S. needs to change their system for. The country NEEDS the medical personnel. Why does it not also FUND the training instead of forcing people to go into total debt to be able to serve their country. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE???

I know what happened to one of those Nurses which helped cause the current nursing shortage.
She joined the Navy right out of high school and while in service she went "Marine side" and became a Navy Corpsman.
After eight years, she left the military and became a Registered Nurse.
More than twenty years later, the physical stress of nursing took it's toll and after surgery done on both wrists, her back and her neck, the hospital agreed she could no longer work for them so she applied for SSI benefits.
She's spent over two years for Social Security to make a decision on her SSI case.
When SS denied her application, like so many other average American citizens who find themselves in the same situation, she was *forced* to hire a lawyer to press her case.
Now her long term disability insurance at her hospital has run out and she must work out the details to set up Veterans Benefits.
No job. No income. No healthcare benefits (yet), No pharmaceutical coverage. Why? Because she lives in the *only* nation which still clings to a for-profit "health"care system that won't even cover 100% of American citizens.
    *Who* profits?
    Not average Americans.
Just lawyers, insurance companies, Big Pharma and enormous hospital systems who use up their employees like tissues and then toss them in the trash when their health fails.

I voted for Bernie in the Democratic Primary. I wanted him so badly as President-but, I’ve since realized Biden was the better pick. Think about how hard they’ve been trying to paint BIDEN as a Communist-and he’s the most Conservative Democrat we’ve got, just imagine how much they’d be sabotaging EVERYTHING BERNIE DID. He would not have been able to deliver as many actual accomplishments as Biden has. Bernie would NOT have been able to get bipartisan support. I’m sorry, but he simply wouldn’t. It’s hard to see someone as boring as Biden as a “good President” but I’m judging by PASSED LEGISLATION. He is a Good President.

Bernie has been part of the problem with healthcare. He can't and won't be part of the solution.

Being poor in California is not much of an option for a 78 year old Woodstock dude with no partner and adult children who turn their backs.
I worked for Bernie twice without success (2016 and 2020}, but I love him with a passion usually saved for the opposite sex thrice married -no money left with papa and owned by B of A (the Evil Empire maybe, no?

It's now up to US, those average citizens, to take EVERY SINGLE fact that you have brought up in this chat, and take it to our state and federal government representatives and ask them just exactly what the hell they're doing about it. We can't let this topic fade into the background. We have to hold them accountable to either fixing this issue, OR they get "primaried" or voted OUT of office. It's really in OUR hands, no one else's.

It took me 3 weeks to book an appointment with my primary doctor, took another 3 weeks to see a surgeon, surgeon didn’t see me for more than 50 seconds, asked me to get an MRI that took 3 weeks to book and another 2 weeks to get my MRI results.
After I got my MRI results, it took me 4 weeks to see the surgeon again, who saw me about 2 minutes, Booked the procedure 20 days later. I literally spent over 4 months, 1000s of dollars to get a minor procedure that wouldn’t take more 1 week to get done everywhere else in the world. The corruption in your health system is purely evil.

I was so pleased caregiving for my beloved mother.
Social Services in Cali here so understaffed & overwhelmed & underpaid our efforts to keep her in her home was undermined by rapacious reprobate brother as POA tricked her into going for an Easter visit not bringing her back home but stuck her in a senior facility far from home in order to sell her home undervalue for his own Monetary Benefit!
That was illegal tho no one, law enforcement agencies nor Social Services prevented her from being abducted, our greatest fear.
From the shock of this crime robbing her of all her assets, she declined from perfect health to stroking into a catatonic state over a year tube fed unable to speak or eat all because the homes have skyrocketed in value making vulnerable elderly homeowners ripe for being defrauded by even family together conspiring to underhand confiscate their estate & assets. Yet elder financial fraud is the number one white collar crime no one is addressing the issue as though these seniors do not matter i.e. what happened to my mom dying of a broken heart 💔

The senator is spot on about everything except one important concept. As a board certified family medicine doctor I went straight to a rural area after residency where, after fighting with insurance companies, big pharma and corporate hospital systems, I found I couldn’t afford to raise my family practicing primary care and went to the ER full time. Now, as my career draws to a close, I have given up and can no longer fight “the good fight”. They have won, and I’m hanging up my cleats and calling it a ball game. I only hope I can deal with the health care system better as a victim (patient) in my old age better than I’ve been able to change it as a participant. By the way, the important concept the senator misses is that health care isn’t a “right” any more than eating or decent housing or reliable transportation. The founders didn’t mention it as an unalienable right, and it is not one. It is a commodity for which we must work and fight and never take for granted, because it’s not.

Well our founding fathers gave us the lawful right to change our governmental system as time progresses. It is high time to make important necessities like nutrition, housing, and health care inalienable rights for the sake of all Americans. Not everything needs to be a private, profit making business. We are a democratic republic not an oligarchic republic.

However, doctors here in Florida will not see you without another doctors referral and then when you do get referred to someone you only get to see a PA or a nurse practitioner not a doctor. I have been getting sicker and sicker for four years and still no one knows what's wrong with me and I'm still seeing people that are not doctors. I'm crying almost every day.
