    Love this simple trap. I have used a few of grim tooths traps over the years. Love the PC scream when they fall lol

      lol, yep. I felt the scream was appropriate, lol. Cheers, my friend!

    I have all the Grimtooth books. They are a premium tool for any aspiring DM. You can choose to play them as written, which is sure to be a gruesome violent end to that PC. Or modify them. I have them modified and close to boss or lietenant areas to soak up some spell slots or other resources just before that key boss fight.
    Another great video Wally.
    Thank you

      All of the books!? Oh, nice. What an absolute treasure you have there! And yep, many PCs have met their demise at the hands of a well crafted, gruesome Grimtooth trap, for sure. Classics, for sure. Cheers!

    This trap looks fun and simple! If I were to encounter this trap, I will rip the door or find a piece of plank and use it as bride to walk over the spinning trap

    This is a great trap! I'll be 100% stealing it. I would probably lessen the damage of the fall, and use it not so much to wound a player, but to segregate them, diverting them down a shaft into a different part of the dungeon. Then the party has to decide whether to press forward hoping they can find them, or risk jumping down themselves to re-group.
    I also have a gnome, and a halfling in my party, so I might make it so small creatures don't weight enough to trigger it, so if one of them is leading they will walk past with no issue, but then when the elf or tabaxi player goes next they will.

    • @WallyDM
      @WallyDM  8 месяцев назад +1

      Ah, yes. It will work perfect for dividing the party, for sure. And, I love the idea of the smaller characters being able to walk across. Sounds like you have everything you need to implement this into your game. Hooray! Be sure to let me know how it goes!

    I think it would be interesting if a character rolled a high enough perception or has bonuses to smell and roll high enough they could smell some kind of oil coming from the oil of slipperiness.
    Every time I see a pit trap I get a little sad because I still find it hard to believe that even high level characters would be able to survive falling on spikes. Maybe a high level character would be able to survive a little while before bleeding out but I'd think unless someone got pulled off and healed almost right away they'd be done for.

    Fun trap, distraction trap to cover up real traps are always a nice way to throw off players
    Sometimes even leaving a trap as obvious, but it's a shortcut in reality

      100% Agree. I love this way of including traps.

    I'm studying up on grimtooths traps to make a crawl that rewards creative thinking rather than just needing to optimize. Like obviously if a caster had levitate that works for them but doesn't help the team. But ironically my warmage for a third edition game I'd say imma cast lesser orb of acid to try and compromise the foundation of the mechanism as it's spinning thereby haulting it. This provides a secondary answer to the cautious clause whereby now we'd just have to climb over it and depending on if I can time the spell right, may not even if have too. On a first level spell. The goal being not to nullify the threat entirely but prove every character brings something that can be of use.
    Depending on how fast it's spinning grease could work too. Lubricating it so much that it actually stresses the hinges having a similar effect turning it into a stoop.

      Some great thoughts here at thwarting the trap, for sure! Be sure to check out my Trap playlist... there's a few more of the old Grimtooth traps featured in other videos. Be sure to report back once your studies are complete. Cheers!
