He's easily one of my favourite characters in the show and he's so underrated in his character - I mean he lost his parents to the person who everyone misunderstood for obvious reasons and he never got a total explanation of what WWX was actually doing because it's hard to behave rationally when you're feeling extreme emotions. I can't even imagine the amount of what he felt when he found out he had WWX's core after having such a grudge against him for all those years and the guilt he must feel for misunderstanding him is enough to make me hurt physically.
Jiang Cheng is definitely a tragic character, I sincerely hope he has become a little happier after the end of the book

His character is surely under the shadow of Wei Wuxian. All the things he do is to protect his loved ones but most people judge him negatively. He knows he is inferior to WWX and he still loves him, wants him to be by his side.

Jiang Cheng is the character that breaks my heart the most.He has so many layers to him. He is not really a good guy here but he is not a bad guy either - which makes him the most real in the presented situation and universe. I can easly imagine a whole drama being made from his perspective and it still would be a captivating ride, full of emotions, character journey and introspection albait a very different one. This is exeptionally well done vid, the imagines and scenes go flawlessly with the music and lyrics. Bravo!

Oh my!! These are my thoughts exactly!! At first I was so invested in WWX's journey but the more I think about JC, the more layers I uncover and the bigger my fascination. I mean sure WWX has his reasons but in a kind of selfish pursuit of his own justice he irrevocably betrays his family, the one he _swore_ to protect. JC can't stand by him because he is made a sect leader in his teens after a deeply traumatic event and has all these responsibilities thrust upon him. Responsibilities like the survival of his people. I get so angry at WWX in this aspect that he lays more trouble at JC's feet. And then JC has his most important people die or betray him. He gets no lucky easy way out and second chance, like WWX. He had to live with WWX consequences while raising the child of his dead sister, gaaaahhhhh I could so easily see the whole drama with him as the protagonist, and an equally (maybe even more interesting) journey. He's just so real, like you said
@@potatoeggplant3535 I must say I don't really get angry at WWX. He is the hero type and I can recognize that people, especially the ones who don't have anyone to stand up for them, need heros. But I like that it was made clear - with showing us JC story arc - that being a hero comes often with colloteral demage, and JC is just one. The cost of being a hero is simply not only for hero to bare. WWX seems to understand it finally too and it looks like he never really balmed JC for choosing differently. But it was also in a way a harder choice for JC - because for WWX it was between choosing the people he loves most ( Yanli, JC) or doing what he saw as "the right thing" (protecting Wens). For JC protecting the ones he loves is the only right thing and thanks to WWX's choice he is sort of in the corner, having to choose between Yanli + his people in the sect and WWX. No matter what he chooses he will feel guilty. No "clear conscience" for him :(
@@katana4516 I think we agree mostly! But I do think JC really had absolutely no freedom to help and WWX knows this immediately. Not in this fictional societal context. Should he have sided with WWX for the Wen's and thereby offering his sect as slaughter in the political climate post sunshot campaign again after nearly being decimated? So it's too easy to just say protecting his loved ones is more important than justice. How do you weigh human lives against each other as WWX does?
And I do think WWX character can't stand injustice but he's a very problematic 'hero'. He's very morally grey (MXTX created sth very complex here). Not only because he deliberately ignorantly causes so much collateral damage but also the secret keeping. I personally think his chosing to keep the whole golden core business a secret was because he was afraid of JC's reaction not solely because he was only thinking about protecting him. His 'protection' causes the rift between himself and JC to grow exponentially. I can't help wondering how things would have gone differently if he confessed and _gave_ JC a chance to understand the circumstances and maybe be able to react and understand better than the whole guess working mess he had to do.

@@potatoeggplant3535 Yes, you're absolutely right. And those damn heroes - they are always more or less problematic, they do the deed and then just die and leave the mess behind :)) I agree about shady WWX's motivation. Plus it's just arrogant to give oneself the right to know better what's good for the people you love - just show them some respect! JC is especially touchy when it comes to that, WWX shoud know that.
My favourite. He is the most honest character. And I love how he raised his nephew. And he is so damn handsome 👍
I feel bad for Jiang Cheng. At first I thought of him as a bad brother. But After rewatching The Untamed and having a full understanding of his character, he was easily one of my favourite characters in the show. I felt so bad of my grudge against him. He’s my favourite character because of his experience in depression and trauma.
People easily assume Jiang Cheng as the “angry, serious” type. But can you blame him?
His parents died, Jin Zixuan died which made Jiang YanLi depressed. Then YanLi got stabbed in the heart and Wei Wuxian jumped off a cliff. His family members were all dead. His only blood related was Jin Ling. So, Jiang Cheng had to raise Jin Ling alone.
Thats a huge impact and I genuinely feel bad for him. He deserves a lot more!!

They always view lwj and wwx as the characters who have suffered the most in the novel post sunshot campaign but they kept forgetting that those two are the only ones to get a happy ending while almost all the characters has suffered more even before the war until the end of the novel,they didn't get a reprieve, some only got added more suffering to them as the story progress. So many of MXTX characters are layered and complex that you can't really jugde them as really evil (except for jgs, the f**ker can burn) and all are so misunderstood and underated except the protagonists that you can create a novel in every single one of them as the central focus of the story and it will be so good. And the editing of this video prove that a novel around JC will be at least interesting. Thank you for sharing such a good quality video.
I really love jc, so I tried to made something really good for him, but also true about his person, he really needs more attention, but you right, that there is a lot of chsracters like him, that we do not see clear

Wonderful video! It shows JC's character perfectly. JC is my absolute favorite in the novel. I had been shocked when I realized just how terrible and disgusting a parent JFM was, how badly he brought up WWX, how right YZY was about both JFM and WWX. I am delighted that the author made WWX LWJ's problem and removed him from JC's life.
