not surprising. he is much younger, isn't he? and not Chinese. he may know the repressive regime and work there but that doesn't mean he has to obey every absurd rule they have. and as actor he does what is needed for his character and his character is the stoic one, who doesn't laugh (except in rare circumstances and only to one special someone)
This is not his typical self. Yibo is known to be like Lan Zhan actually, very quiet. What you are seeing is a whole new side of him that people didn't know. Xiao Zhan did a good job bringing it out of him to build chemistry. I venture to say that the reverse is also true. You will likely not see this side of Xiao Zhan in the future. He low-key flirts whereas Yibo is more bold.
For being a top artist in China, Yibo is the most upfront savage person I've ever seen. He does not filter himself much. Sometimes, it's just shocking to me how bold he is. I think that when he does fall in love, he does completely, and he's not afraid of it. It's not in his nature to censure himself all of the time as XZ does. Yibo is the definition of an alpha personality in my eyes. There is no lying in him. He is often quiet with a poker face, but he expresses himself honestly. I admire who he is a great deal.

@@eitakou some fans wrote a Yizhan fic with explicit content, someone found it, reported it, which resulted in ao3 being abolished in China and Xiao Zhan's career almost being over because people decided to boycott him and he and Wang Yibo can't publicly interact anymore
This all happened in like, February 2020 and 227 stands February 27th

I can't stop loving this two. I just finished The untamed and I felt so down so they literally cheered me up and made me smile.

I watched a podcast concerning the 227, they both suffered because of an over a piece of imaginative fanfict I totally understand the upset of those who used the site which was closed down by the Chinese given, I also understand that an idol doesn't have the right to 'control' their fans - their are equal. It must have been a horrible tough year+ for both Yibo and Xian as they are friends.
The reception Xian received at his first public appearance since this, with fans and audience wearing red and waving lights brought me to tears.
