@@hammersanddice Dont stress it TBH. Making thematic lists and playing them well is *hardly* against the spirit of 30k. the artificer whining is a long standing 30k tradition dating back to 1.0.
Narratively I'd explain it the same way Winters SEO does: "Get behind me, men! Get behind me!" It represents the squad leader drawing the enemy's fire and making himself a prominent target. I don't generally take artificer armour for my sergeants (probably in short supply after Calth), but it doesn't super bother me.
