My only complaint is that your portrayal of Ashnard was completely misleading. Ashnard isn’t some typical racist dictator like Hitler during the Holocaust. His goal was to cause a global war in order to awaken the power of the dark god. His philosophy is for only the strong to survive, shown by how he chose his Four Riders by strength regardless of background. As shown in Radiant Dawn, the Black Knight was able to hide his identity from Ashnard because he knew Ashnard only cared about one’s strength, not their background. Even Petrine was chosen as a Rider despite her being Branded. Ashnard’s goal is to create chaos through war, but you made it sound like his only goal was to kill the laguz, which is not true at all. Ashnard doesn’t necessarily care if it’s the laguz or beorc who suffer. His backstory involved him killing his own family to take the throne despite him being low on the list of heirs. Even in his death quote, he was enjoying himself as the chaos only grew. Yeah, Ashnard’s not the deepest villain, but his motivations have much more intrigue than you gave him credit for. He was racist like anyone else, but genocide was not his goal-global warfare was. That strict philosophy is important to his character as his actions end up having huge ramifications in Radiant Dawn.
While I understand the point you were trying to make about ethnic discrimination/racism being handled in this game, the whole Black people Laguz parallel is not entirely appropriate in my opinion. Otherwise, I enjoyed this video!
optimistic that we’ll get a Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn HD double pack for Switch. Nintendo’s a lot more comfortable porting and remastering Gamecube/Wii stuff nowadays and if Pikmin 1 and 2 got it, I don’t see why the Radiant duology couldn’t
I'm glad you mentionned my boy Boyd. I played path of radiance with a friend back in the day and every time we were having trouble with some ennemies we sent Boyd to "clarify" the situation. The disrepect Boyd show to his ennemies is incredible, the most broken unit in the game. Such fun memories
The support limitation is because the support bonuses were way bigger back then. For example an A support with someone with Earth affinity give roughly 30 avoid within 3 tiles. Just insane
Ashnard doesnt want to wipe out Laguz, he just leveraged the racism in society to hype up a war that would release the 'Dark God'. Ultimately to wipe out all who were weak leaving the world to be ruled only by the strong. He's completely fine if that means many laguz survive.
Support provides buffs for the characters they support if they're in 3 tiles range.They're very good but in FE9 they're way too good like Ike & Oscar support which provides 45% avoid.That's why support restrictions was implemented.

I'm late but you totally should, I recommend that you start with one of the GBA games. I'd say start with sacred stones because it isn't too difficult while having a great story and interesting characters. it's also one of the shorter games, making it the best gba game to start with imo. then again, fe7 has an entire section of the game dedicated to teaching new players how the series works.

This is shown as he gives his strongest soldiers a position in the 4 riders regardless of status and it's said he was only a lesser son and suddenly was the only heir. We all obviously know why due to his dream. He may not be the deepest Villain but you didn't portray him correctly.
Fe 9 and fe 10 are really good Fire Emblem games. But as standalone games, the games are clunky, weird and off... If you like the Tellius saga you are a fire emblem fan, whereas if you liked Awakening, you might not be into the rest of the fire emblem series, as its a good jrpg game, but not a very good fire emblem game.
This.. is one of my favourite games as I've said in the test stream, it pretty much is my favourite game that isn't Persona 3 and 4 because it has everything I look for in a game.. I rarely play long games back to back playthrough but I did for this game i love it that much. I just hope Nintendo ports it eventually so more people can play, Also Zihark is a pretty interesting character I recommend reading his supports somewhere as he's surprisingly deep. Good video as always but the reason why supports are limited is cuz they are kinda broken.. Ike and Oscar support gives them 30 avoid but I agree it's dumb but I can see why they did that.

I used to play PoR religiously since I was so enriched by the lore and gameplay elements. However because of that, I noticed a LOT of problems with the game that a possible remaster/remake should fix. Let me list them and reasons why. 1. Magic Tomes levels C and B like Arc Fire etc. Leveling magic was a major problem in the GC version due to the severe lack of mid level magic tomes. Make them available in the shop to purchase, seriously. 2. Expand the forge to allow forging for D to A magic tomes. Never made sense that only E level tomes could be forged. Also, include forging for the braves, blades, short axes/spears, tomahawks, spears, slayers, and knives. 3. Expand the weapons shop to allow the purchase of more certain weapons. Short axes/spears are too rare in the game for a mid level weapon. A tomahawk and spear purchase in the last 3 or 4 chapters should not be too much to ask for either. 4. Include the missing S level weapons: Rexflame, Rexcalibur, and Urvan. Then make Rexaura and Wishblade droppable. 5. Give Sothe his promotion to Assassin class. He is literally the only character in the game who can't promote even with a master seal. 6. Allow for reusing of skills. For whatever reason, skills removed are deleted forever in the GC version. What you used a skill on one character and wanted to switch it to another? Too bad, gone forever. 7. Buff the damage for special damage weapons. A silver sword should not do more harm than an armor slayer. 8. Include a save point right before the battle with The Black Knight. No one wants to redo the whole stage just to fight the BK again and again. 9. Allow for more supports since the GC version maxed out at 5 per character. I'm guessing due to limited data constraints. 10. Make Greil, Bertram, and the Black Knight playable in the Trial Map mode. Include the medallion for Ashnard so he can go berserk too. 11. Improve the voice acting and include narration like the sequel did. 12. Full FMV for the main villain, King Ashnard. Possibly for Sanaki promoting Ike to lord too. 13. Change Ike's starting class to mercenary. A game staring a band called the Greil Mercenaries and no one is an actual mercenary class? Not even the main character??? 14. Lastly, have the sleep and silence staves actually affect bosses. If these staves can affect your main character, it's only fair for the bosses to be affected too. The staves are rare enough to justify the use on bosses anyway. Those are fixes PoR need to have in a remaster/remake. As for Radiant Dawn, thankfully there's less fixes needed but this is for PoR only.
You are so lucky to have an actual copy of the game. I been trying for literally 2 months trying to find a copy I can afford. from ebay to Amazon, to any website that sells games to literally no luck, even tried to emulate it last night and it didn't work out cause idk anything about computers or how to emulate. But love the review, hopefully I get to experience this game some day cause I love fire emblem. First game was 3 houses. Been trying to collect all of them since.
They have not implemented again the extra points for the base to give to units because the extremist fans would had a seizure if they do so. They still complain about casual mode and they can just choose classic. BUUUUT NOOO if they see casual mode as an option they still complaint.
