Hi, I own a Versys 1000 SE GT 2022. Speedshifter and electronic damping, and I love it, beautiful looks, good seating position and a really good tourer bike, I'm 55 years old and don't need 200 horsepower, or a sitting position that means I'm lying on the fueltank. I am 100% satisfied with my Kawasaki Versys 1000 SE GT 2022./ Rogga Sweden.👍👍👍
Hi 👋 I get exactly where you are coming from and I could not agree more. I am somewhat younger in years, however I already appreciate an up right riding position and the Versys 1000 has more than enough power. Its about how you use it, not how much you have 😉 Great to hear that you are enjoying your Versys. All the best
Tack sä mycket, hur är det efter ett år har du Inga problem 🤔 Jag har Indian Scout den tredje år ny 52 år så den här kunde vara bra for mig . Enough pover 🤔🇫🇮 👍👍🏍
Hi Rogga...I too am 55 years old and looking at a Versys 1000. I'm wondering how long you are able to ride in a day and how tall you are....thanks from Canada
I came back to biking two years ago after nearly 30 years away. All the advice was, buy a small twin or triple, don’t go too big. But they all felt too light and uncomfortable, and the engines felt lumpy and rattly, and easy to stall at low speeds. I went to a Kawasaki dealer to try the Versys 650 (another twin), and after hearing my problem he suggested I try the Versys 1000. Well, it was like night and day. A big, stable, comfortable bike with a lovely head up, high, riding position, and above all a super smooth engine. So easy to ride and never felt like stalling or that it would snatch the clutch. Suddenly I realised why I loved my previous Suzuki GS850. You just can’t beat a four-cylinder Japanese motor. I’m old enough to remember how the Honda CB750 overnight made all previous engine layouts look outdated, and that feeling is still with me. But each, of course, to their own. That’s the great thing, as bikers we have so much to choose from!
Great to have you back biking again 👍 Yes each to their own I suppose, but I do not exactly what you mean. If you want a smooth engine, then a Japanese 4 cylinder is hard to beat! They just have that premium feel to them. Good choice going for the 1000 model, you shouldn't get bored of the power too quickly! Cheers and I hope you continue to enjoy your return to 2 wheels!
I bought one ..the base model with full luggage for £9700 brand new on a 20 plate for 2 up touring and it does that brilliantly it's fantastic value with bullet proof reliableabilty. It's so easy to ride
I got the 2022 SE a few months ago. I am 5' 10" and had to get the lower seat as I destroyed my ACL last year and needed to flat foot this bike. Excellent front breaks. Lovely and comfortable for 4 hour plus journeys. Never broken up after long journeys on this bike. Still 50/50 on it's looks but the main reason I bought this was for comfort and reliability. Cracking bike
Congrats on your purchase 👍 Yes I agree it is such a comfortable bike and I personally found the wind protection great as well. Along with the beautiful 4 cylinder engine it is a fantastic touring motorcycle. Great to hear that you are enjoying it. All the best
I agree, very comfortable bike. The brakes are great: I had to swap out my stock front pads for EBC HH pads due to repeated glazing. The EBC pads really transformed the brakes
@Penndennis Hi, the NT1100 is another lovely bike quite similar riding position to the Versys but honestly I didn't see one first hand. Was between the Versys and the Africa twin. The 21inch front wheel put me off there. Looking at the GS as well but I believe the Versys engine is more reliable than the BMW GS. I could be wrong but the Versys has given me zero issues in the last 12 months.
@@jaydee5926 hi I will have to put those pads on. Keep forgetting to do it. They do make a great difference. EBC HH are great pads on any bike. Cheers
Just finished watching your video. Excellent review and I love your colorful British descriptive adjectives! I purchased a new 2016 2nd generation Versys 1000LT in June of 2017 for the paltry sum of $10,500 US dollars. I love the look of the Versys, but waited almost a year before purchasing because I never saw any on the highways in Southern California. The only reason I thought they weren't selling is that the Versys is a bargain basement Sport Tourer and you're right, it is not an adventure MC. Most people who are looking at this type of MC are probably over 40, have some money and are looking at the BMW GS1250, RT1250, Ducati Multi Strada and KTM 1290. All of them with more HP, more electronic features, electronic suspension and with the BMW's, shaft drive & electronic windscreen on the RT. Of course they are thousands of dollars more. The remodeled Versys in 2019 closed the gap and still is $3-4000 less. The one factor that you didn't mention is the reliability of Japanese products. I have never spoken with a BMW, Ducati or KTM owner who hasn't had issues, both big and small with their MC's.Cost of ownership is the price you pay for European MC's. I have almost 60,000 trouble free miles on my Versys with only routine maintenance. I'm on my 3rd set of tires, 3rd set of front & 2nd set of rear brake pads, and 3rd chain & sprockets. The OEM chain lasted 33,000 miles. The 3rd chain & sprockets were just installed at 57,000 miles. The original battery is still registering 13.5 volts. I'd like to see Kawasaki add another 20-30 HP, a single latch windscreen adjustment as you mentioned and possibly a shaft drive. Another thing I love about the Versys is it's rarity. In 5 years of ownership, I've seen maybe 15 on the road and 3 of those were in Italy. That's why you can get excellent deals. I do plan on purchasing another Versys 1000, hopefully when some of the aforementioned items are added. I completely agree that the Versys is a very underrated sport tourer, so let's keep it a secret! : )
👍 Many thanks and really pleased you enjoyed the review! Haha yes I get a bit carried away with my descriptive sentences some times. Sounds like you have had a great experience with your Versys, that is brilliant to hear. You are absolutely right about the reliability of Japanese motorcycles, I used to own a Yamaha Tracer 700 and it was amazing, never had anything go wrong with it. May you continue to enjoy your Versys for many miles to come. All the best
Japanese motorbike are usually really reliable. As owner of many Italian motorbikes (i have a Multistrada 1260 today) I can say that I have never experience problems with them just ordinary maintenance. One of the secret is to let do the maintenance to the official officine only. I hope my advice would be useful for you all. Greetings from Tuscany. Thanks for the video! ✌️
I had a ride on a Kawasaki Z900RS a couple years ago and yes, they seem to know what they are doing with their IL4 engines. No problems with the looks of the Z too… what a stunning looking bike! The Versys is no beauty but there’s definitely a market for this. It seems like a jack of all trades with the high and upright riding position and the smooth IL4. It’ll make for a great commuter bike. Nice review as always Angus, keep it up! Cheers!
👍 thanks really pleased you liked the review. Yes the Z900RS is a stunning bike!! I am not sold on the looks of the Versys, however you cannot fail to like that engine. Absolutely a great commuter bike for all year riding. Cheers
Good video mate. I have the 2021 Versys 1k SE GT and absolutely love it. Done the Scotland NC500 and the Wales 360 on it amongst other things and it's a very versatile bike. The only bit I disagree with you on is that I actually brought mine for its looks lol, my SE is the same style as this video and o love it
Thanks really pleased you liked the video 👍 Nice you have the top of the range! Have done some great trips on it as well, you must know the bike very well. I can imagine touring would be great and so comfortable. I am planning a trip to the NC500 this year some time. Haha fair enough, looks are so subjective. You have to go with what you like. Cheers
All motorbike's look great in the eyes of their owner's I agree with you I do not see many of these floating around just one or two now and then i see. I did get to sit on one at a NEC bike show a few years back its a beast and far too tall for me but I have spoken to owners out there who love them to bits. Great review
Hi Dean, many thanks really pleased you liked the review 👍 Yes it is bigger than I was expecting, great wind protection though! There are not too many about but I feel that the people that do own them really fall in love with them. Cheers
Great vlog i have this model and its a briliant bike had the 2016 model before it they are a wolf in sheeps clothing very quick bikes on a twisty road and yes very underated.
Hi Greg, many thanks I appreciate it and really pleased you liked the video 👍 Very much underrated, it is such a smooth ride and very capable touring bike. It is hard to beat a nice Kawasaki inline 4! Cheers
I've got a 2015 Gen 2 1000 GT. That engine is an absolute peach. Pulls like a train from tickover, with no snatchiness at low revs and the howl from the standard exhaust above 5000 rpm, is addictive. I've also got a 31 yr old ZZR1100 and a 1050 Triumph Sprint gt so, I know the Versys is not lacking in power and, though I've had the standard seat reworked, it's just, all day comfy and will do 220+ miles between fill-ups. Me and wifey went on honeymoon on it to Southern Ireland 5 yrs ago. 1500 smiles in a week, no problem. All in all, a brilliant fast, comfortable tourer. Love it
👍 you summed it up brilliantly! It is a great comfortable and very efficient sports tourer, with a beautiful engine. Also I was very impressed with the wind protection and all round comfort. Great touring bike. Cheers
I own a 2022 SE LT+. Silver and Black. Love it. It's fast and luxurious. Very stable at high speed on the motor way. Very capable in twisties and fast sweepers. Its missing heated seats, backlit switch gear, about 30 HP and 15-20FT torque. So I'd say mine is more expensive than it should be based on the Bikes it wants to run with. If you get the revs up she's a real screamer though. All that said I still love it. But I will be trading it in for a 2023 1290 SAS mostly likely. You only live once and not having owned a SAS once in your life seems a waste :)
👍 Well said, that is exactly the vibes I got from the bike. A lovely smooth and premium ride that can handle a twisty road well. I suppose a bit more low down torque would be nice, but that is the trade off with an inline 4. You certainly won't miss that torque with the SAS!! Absolutely got to be done, the SAS is an absolute blast. Enjoy
It's like a limousine to ride - not as pokey as some - but a great bike. Could always replace the front sprocket for one with one less tooth if you wanted more acceleration.
I have a 2022 version in grey. I've de-catted mine, added a Rapid tuner and a high-flow air filter. It sounds so much better. You need to rev the engine if you want to enjoy it more get the "sport" out of sports tourer. Also, so good if you do a lot of 2 up riding.
Last year, I bought a 2009 Versys-650 with only 5,000 miles on it. (Candy Lime Green) Since then, I've done a few mods (Moster Energy Theme and Stuff) to add to the already awesome mods that were on my motorcycle, when I bought it. I hope to soon have all of my dream mods added, so that my Versys-650 will be the very first Kawasaki Versys that kids are postering up on their bedroom walls, and dreaming about owning ! (It's a pretty sweet motorcycle, already)
@@redangrevival The Candy Lime Green paint seems to be what earns the most compliments. 💚 Here's a list of some important mods that came on my Versys-650 when I bought it. #1 MRA Tinted Windscreen w/ Extension. #2 Musarri "GP Street Series" Exhaust #3 Dry Cell Battery #4 Brake Light Module #5 Car Horn #6 Superbike Hand Grips Here are the mods that I've added, myself ; #1 Pyramid Front Fender Extenda #2 Hand Guards #3 License Plate Frame w/ Reflector Mounts #4 Tank Protector #5 Speed Metal Rear Spools #6 Wheel Decal Kit #7 Cell Phone Holder #8 New Mirrors #9 LED Turn Signals #10 Monster Energy Decals (Best of all) ; I have eliminated all of the vibration noises that Versys-650 motorcycles typical develop from the Fairing, and the Speedometer / Instrument Box. Plus, I fixed the seat, so that it latches on, firmly and holds tight, (no vibrations) so my Versys-650 not only looks better than most others out there, but it sounds (a lot) better than most others, too ! The upgrades that I still need to purchase are; #1 Frame Sliders #2 Rear Hugger #3 Tank pads #4 Handlebar Crossbar w/ Pad #5 Throttle Lock #6 USB Charger #7 Kickstand Foot Attachment ...(then I'm making posters) ! 💪😎👍
@@intergalacticbasketballdro7186 haha great job 👍Sounds like one special and unique Versy's 650, have definitely made it your own. I think you may well have managed to turn it into a poster wall bike, good effort. Have to see a picture when your finished 👌 Cheers
Good review, as you said this is a Sport touring bike with adventure ergonomics ( upright seating position) , very smart !!! Kawasaki and Suzuki’s sport touring bikes have more lean forward seating position ( sporty) which is not comfortable on longer rides. I think Kawasaki Versys 1000 is fantastic choice for faster and longer rides.
Thanks I appreciate it and great to hear you enjoyed the review 👍 Yes there is definitely a bonus in making a sports touring bike but with an adventure bike riding position. In my opinion it is the best of both worlds! No compromise on road performance, yet comfortable on long trips. Cheers
I rode a naked bike with a windshield through 29 mile an hour cross wind, light some rain, low sandstorm across the highway and 45° weather from Las Vegas to Los Angeles ( hwwy 15) USA and had a good time !! I can only imagine rollin on an adventure bike like that :) Bikes rock!!! Cheers mate USA
Sounds like a wild ride 🤙 An adventure bike would sure catch the wind more, perhaps making you less stable! However you would be much better protected from the elements. Cheers
Unfortunately I have not ridden the V-Strom1050 yet, just the 650. I have the V-Strom 1050 on the list to ride so will let you know then 👍 I think I personally would prefer the V-Strom!
I do like them. Maybe have a test ride on one next year. Got my Tiger from Blades at Stratford upon Avon and had really good service and would 100% recommend them 👌 👍
Hi Richard, it is a great touring bike for road use. Would definitely recommend a ride on one if you get the chance. Lovely smooth inline 4 engine and very comfortable riding position. Great to hear you had a good service with Blade motorcycles 👍 They are a brilliant dealership. Hope you enjoy your Tiger!
@@redangrevival yes will definitely look to go back to Blades for my next bike. A few of us are off to Germany at the end of August fingers crossed as the last trip was cancelled due to Covid 🙄
I got a triumph tiger 1200 gt Pro on demo yesterday and wow what a blast unbelievable comfort looks abd power, was thinking about the verys but I think boredom would set in to quick great video by the way.
Many thanks glad you liked the video 👍 I don't think I would get bored of the Versy's! However yes I would have the Triumph over it for sure. Depends on budget I suppose. The new 1200 Tigers are surprisingly fast 😁
👍 Thanks really glad you liked the review. It is a very different feeling motorcycle to your standard adventure bike! Have to love that inline 4 engine. Cheers and hope you continue to enjoy yours.
Good review and covered exactly the points that matter. Most in line 4 cylinder engines will produce more per cc than their twin cylinder counterpart by virtue of revving faster. That inevitably reduces the low and mid range. My last 4 was in 1986, a BMW K100RT. It replaced a tired R100RT. It was a nice bike in many ways but I missed the twin’s low end and the 4 seemed busier. There is much talk of torque (ha) but very little of torque curves and there lies the key to the differences in engine characteristics. For me, tractability is key and that takes me to twins. That said, I’ve just ridden a new Triumph Tiger 900 and was staggered by it’s low end grunt. What I don’t like is the artificial vibration caused by the new crank. Keep up the great work!
Hi Ian, many thanks great to hear that you enjoyed the review 👍 Yes I suppose it depends on your riding style and what you are looking for from your bike. I think I naturally lean on the side of a twin and more lower down torque! However whenever I ride a 4 cylinder I am just so impressed with the smooth characteristics of the engine and the exciting top end. Same I was really impressed with the Tiger 900, a fantastic bike and engine. It does seem to have a little bit of the best of both worlds! Many thanks.
@@redangrevival I’ve just spent a week riding a Speedmaster and Tiger 900. I’ll put a few comments on your Speedmaster review. 650 miles over 3 days…… Best, Ian
Many thanks Lilly 👍 Haha it was filmed last week actually, one of those really humid days. It only rained for 15 minutes or so!! Praying for some rain now. Cheers
its amazing bike, I've got one 2021, and it's sound brilliant, not like silent Suzuki, they designed air intake to deliver sound to your ears ... it's beast
Good review mate I've got the 650 and my friend has just bought the 1000 and riding his I really want one. Personally the cost is a big draw it's a lot of bike with a reliable engine. 👍
Thanks, really pleased you liked the review. I am yet to ride the 650 but sure it is also great! Yup the 1000 is definitely a lot of bike for the money. Can't beat a silky smooth inline 4. Cheers
I got the versys 1000 GT SE 2019, for £11,500 with only 4,500mls on the clock. its a good machine for two up riding. the engine and gearbox are the smoothest I've ever owned . had a suspension specialist play with the suspension mapping, reason I found the back a bit bouncy. I changed the screen to ermax sport screen, to much wind buffeting on my helmet. The good lady really like the pillion seating. I had to get a lower seat from Kawasaki in newbury. great service). I have a tracer 900 abs 2015 currently for commuting and solo riding. Top end is not needed, the low end of rev range is just spot on. It a mile muncher at a real world speeds while two up. Its functional. It has character just a restrained one.
Hi, sounds like a good deal 👍 I agree it is such a great and comfortable sports tourer bike, I can imagine it being fantastic fun on a long tour on some nice twisty roads! Can definitely understand why it is comfortable two up. I love the Tracer 9 and can possibly see one in my future ownership! Looking forward to testing the new Tracer 9GT+. Cheers
Sigh....my Z900RS ended it's days in a small ravine off the side of a mountain road. Now I have to find a new bike, and since I've turned into a year round daily motorcycle commuter, I've accepted that the Z900RS isn't optimal. Despite how much I love (loved) it!!!! So, yeah, give me a commuter, occasional weekend touring, version of the Z900RS and I'll throw all my money at you!!!!!
🥴 Sorry to hear that mate! Hope you got out of it ok! The Z900RS is a stunning bike, but as you say maybe not best for all year round commuting. The Versys may not have the looks, but it certainly delivers with the inline 4 engine. Great for an all year bike as well.
I've never been on one, I own a sx 1000 2017 in Green absolutely love it that's why I still own it nothing out there that's as good for the money and the 2022 and new 23 colours dont do anything for me, few extra bits on the new bikes not worth trading mine in and paying out best part of £ 7000 ,
👍 Sounds like you are very happy with your bike, I would definitely stick with it. I agree not worth forking out an extra 7K just for some unnecessary tech! The Versys is great, very similar to the sx 1000 but obviously in more of an adventure form.
I test rode one of these. I'm 5'11" and the windscreen in the highest position was not adequate. The wind hit me right in the visor. If this bike had a shaft drive, heated seats, hydraulic clutch and and electric windscreen, I would definately buy one!
I am 5'9" and found the screen to be more than adequate! Different dimensions. That would all be nice editions but would make it more expensive and heavier. I suppose it depends on your preferences. Cheers
I have a '19 SE, bought in late 2020, that I've put ove 25,000 kilometers on. I agree, it's a great bike especially on the highway and faster back roads. Handling from the semi-active suspension is excellent and the bike performs well in the Twisties in sport mode. Engine is really smooth and powerful. Turbine like. Often I will forget to shift because I don't notice the revs. Two-up riding with luggage is a pleasure. My only complaints are the windscreen's adjustment mechanism and the fueling which is a little in the lean side. Throttle response is smooth but I can sense a bit of surging at lower revs.
👍 some great kilometers you have put on it! I was very impressed with the bike, such a good and comfortable sports tourer. Also the 4 cylinder engine is a breath of fresh air amongst the twins. Could you get a re-map to improve the fueling?
Very rarely see one here in American south. I’ve always wanted to try one! I ride Harley softail so I’m used to being laid back and comfortable. I never could ride a sport bike bec I hate the seat position. So I’ve never really got to enjoy a 4 cylinder engine. BUT this Versys is perfect 👍. I could ride that! I sat on one but didn’t ride it. Only thing I didn’t like was the seat felt hard as a rock. But I’m used to a touring seat on a harley
Yes that is a fair point 👍 Although neither the Tiger or KTM have that brilliant inline 4 engine that Kawasaki do so well! But yes it is getting expensive and at that price range it is up against some tough competition.
Great review. I have a z100sx 2019 version. The bikes great but 2 up its not that comfy on long long roads. I test ridden a versys 1000 and it's a fab bike but it's engine can be lazy at low revs and it's similar with the z100sx! Need to get the revs up before it Sings. I'm actively looking for a new bike and I'm going for a tiger 900 or tracer gt once they update the tft.
Yes I can imagine the 1000sx 2 up can get a bit tiresome on longer trips! The Versys would be much more comfortable. I suppose that is the down side with 4 cylinder engines for touring bikes, they don't have that nice low down lazy torque. However the top end is brilliant. 2 great bikes, I am looking forward to testing the Tracer 9GT with the updated TFT 👍
Another excellent video. I'm interested in your opinion. Would you spend less money on the V-Strom 650 or more money on the Versys 1000? Solo rider, mainly rides 100-150 km, around the house, outside the city, outside the highway, 3-4 thousand km per year. Thank you for the advice. And above all, keep up the videos.
Hi thank you so much I appreciate that and great to hear that you enjoyed the video 😁 It really depends on budget! The V-Strom 650 is brilliant and has plenty of power. However if you are looking for a more exciting ride then the Versys is great for that. I would perhaps consider the base Versys 1000 model 👍 A great price and you are still getting that brilliant inline 4 engine.
@@redangrevival Thank you for answer. The V-Strom 650 in my country now costs 8400 euro and the base model Versys 1000 costs 12400 euro. In addition, the fuel consumption is 4 L/100 km vs 6 L/100 km... I also have the money for the Versys. I'm still hesitating whether the higher money for the difference between the bikes is adequate. Especially with my little use. Which of these bikes would you invest your own money in? Thank you very much once again.
Good review thank you. I was interested watching the rev counter- most bike reviews talk about performance etc, and with traffic, cameras, potholes I hardly spend any time over about 5000rpm. So, nice and realistic test ride. As for looks, I guess none of us buy this sort of bike because of looks.......The same way you don't buy a Laverda Jota to go sports touring.
Thanks Tim, glad you enjoyed the review 👍 Yes it is all well and good having the power high up in the rev range, but on a 1000cc motorcycle when do we actually get the chance to rev it out on public roads! However it is a lovely engine and performs brilliantly in the mid to low revs as well. I agree about the looks, but I would struggle to get my head around them. OK when you are riding it, but just looking at it, I would struggle to fall in love with it. Cheers
The Versys is definitely NOT an adventure bike. Not sure why Kawasaki couldn't use the same package but in a more traditional touring style. The Ninja 1000sx is nice but a bit 'legs tucked up' for it to be called a tourer. Nice review.
Hi Kevin many thanks glad you liked the review. Yes I suppose it is really a sports tourer, it has zero intentions of going off road. However the way most people use their adventure bikes I think the Versys could keep up!! I would have the Versys over the 1000SX because of the comfortable riding position. A great sports tourer. Cheers
Thanks for the review, new sub. I have to check this one out. Currently have a Triumph Street Triple RS which I want to replace with either this or the GS. Cheers
👍 Glad you liked the review, and welcome to the channel. I suppose you will find this more similar to your Street Triple because of the engine and 17 inch wheels. For build quality the GS will beat the Versys. Definitely recommend a test ride on both before making a decision. Cheers and good luck with your choice.
NOT an "adventure" motorcycle....it's an "adventure styled" street bike... a sport touring bike. Fantastic ride.... I have about 15,000 miles on a Versys 1000 LT SE+.
Yes I agree really. Just think most "adventure bikes" these days really fall under the category of sports tourer. However yes there are zero intentions to take this bike off road. It is a great sports tourer 👍
Great review...I know people like these but I took one out for a test ride, found it a bit twitch tbh and felt the Suzuki V-Strom 1050XT beat it on every level ..
@@redangrevival My mate's got a v-strom and it REALLY doesn't like town work. And why would it - one of the cylinders is at the back there. It gets very hot. I do prefer the idea of the v-strom (character, torque), but I think - if i rode them back to back - i'd plump for the versys.
I have 2018 VStrom 1000XT and just purchased this fall a 2022 Versys SE LT+. I enjoyed the VStrom and for the money I paid it was awesome value and great fun but missing too 😊many key features like cruise and semi-adaptive suspension. Now Suzuki has lost their mind with pricing of 1050 plus trying to pretend to be a true off-roader with 1050DE and 21" wheel with tube tire???? They are going comppetely the wrong direction. I wanted more touring oriented bike not a pretender bike that can't compete with Africa Twin and other more off-road worthy competitors. They need to up displacement by 20% along with power and I may come back.
I have a 2021 SE version and I agree with pretty much everything you said. It is a sports tourer, you wouldn't take it off-road, but I'd bet that most "adventure bike" riders don't ever go off road either. Looks nice to me but I don't care what it looks like as long as it rides well which this does. Likes - range, I get 200 miles per tank, wind protection, handling, comfort, smoothness, engine sound. Dislikes, semi-active suspension, long thin key easily bent especially in the filler cap, screen adjustment as the locking knobs always seem to come loose and rattle causing the screen to drop to its lowest position, corrosion if you store it outside even with a cover on, and like all adv bikes it's a b**tard to clean! Pros far outweigh the cons though, I Love it, and that engine turns heads!
@@butchcassidy9125 It's definitely a road bike not an adventure bike. I'm old and have been away from biking for decades and only got back into it this year so don't really have anything to compare it with but I found the S (manual suspension) much better than the SE (semi-active suspension) for giving a nice smooth ride over most surfaces, but it may just be that I don't have the SE suspension dialled in yet. Definitely take one for a test ride over rough roads and see what you think.
👌 Cheers Tom, coming from an owner its good to hear that you agree with my points! I agree who really takes their adventure bike off road anyway. Might as well have it handle better on road and not have to compromise. Shame to hear about the corrosion, I would have thought better from Kawasaki. I use a product called ACF-50, brilliant anti corrosion product. Absolutely I think the engine is the strongest point of the Versys 1000. Cheers
I have a 2022 SE and I miss disappointed this video didn't test the Sport mode where the machine truly shines. Having completed a 3000 mi trip to Yellowstone and Tetons it was fantastic. I would agree she might be f-ugly but looks aren't everything when considering capabilities. Love my Versys in Oregon.
Hi, yes apologies I didn't put it in sport mode! It is a fantastic bike, the looks are not great but I would also be willing to overlook these because it is such a great tourer. Cheers
I have never a comparison against the R1200RS, have you ridden that one? I have a 2015 versys 1000 and happy with it. Should I replace it with a bmw rs or stay with versyses?
Hi, unfortunately I have never ridden the R1200 RS, so cannot give you an accurate comparison. If I where you I would stick with the Versys if you are happy with it. Obviously the BMW boxer engine will be completely different to the Versys inline 4! Also The upright riding position on the Versys is most likely more comfortable for longer rides. At the end of the day I recommend a test ride on the BMW 👍
Many thanks really glad you liked the review 👍 I have only ridden the V-Strom 650, so cannot compare like for like! I have a feeling I would personally prefer the V-Strom. More character from the V-Twin engine.
did a test-drive yesterday on the 1000 SE, was about to make a decision but drove my MT09 this afternoon and now I am tied (you can not really compare the bikes). I would love to have something more convenient for touring, plus the 4 cylinder is a dream. I guess I need two bikes, one for touring and one for just riding like an idiot (what the MT09 is really capable of).
Love the bike. Road tested one last week and it was a blast to ride but the only colour available was lime green, wich I absolutely hate. It's not the best at anything but a good all rounder, wich suits me fine. Pretty much the only thing keeping me away from this machine is the available colors.
No kid will have this bike on a poster in their bedroom. The engine definitely lacks super exciting peaks in the high end. That's the price of a supremely comfortable motorcycle that's excellent for commuting and two up touring, while also being light enough on its feet to have fun in the curves. It's a wonderful bike to live with every day. It's an Olympic figure skater doing laps with her hands behind her back.
I agree it is not a poster wall motorcycle! However you have put it into words excellently 👌 haha brilliant description, that is exactly what it feels like. A great smooth and graceful ride. Cheers
@@redangrevival Thank you sir. Not every bike has to be intimidating or scary in order to be good. My Guzzi is visceral and is always "part of the ride". This one falls out of the frame and you forget its there. They're both special for those reasons.
No kid is smarter than their parents. (But, they will wise up, someday when they're a little bit older). Kawasaki wasn't trying to put race motors (which are less reliable, run hotter, and don't last as long) in their Versys Motorcycles. The Versys has a Ninja Motor with a little bit lower compression, and smoother power delivery, (which is safer, and easier to control). The Versys is a fun, reliable, comfortable useful motorcycle.(Not a scary fast, dangerous, make you poop your pants motorcycle).
@@redangrevival I ride a 2009 Versys-650 that's Candy Lime Green ! 🔟 ☝😋👌 💚 Currently, I've got It set up as a Street-Sport Motorcycle, but the 650 still has much more off-road abilities than the Versys-1000 has. However the Versys-1000 is a Superior Sport-Touring Motorcycle. 🏍💨👍
@@intergalacticbasketballdro7186 Yes the 1000 is heavily road biased!! It does look like the 2009 650 has a bit more of a lean towards off roading. Both great bikes, but I do very much like that 4 cylinder engine in the 1000!! 👍
@@redangrevival I always was of the impression that if the crank ends are facing back wheel and front that is inline , no matter how may cyclyinders, transverse in crank arcoss the frame. thats how I have always understood it to be, things and ideas change over the years . Nice Video...
Hello . I am an european rider . And i cannot find anything to complain about my Versys 1000. In France it is a bit complicated to ride off road .So personnally , no need for a Gs ... Nevertheless our country is made of a lot of curvy mountain roads . Then the Versys 1000 is just a dream to ride ! Be all welcome in my country guys ! Greetings from France .
Hi, lucky you! What what a beautiful place to ride, some stunning roads you have. Yes I agree if you are not going off road then the Versys 1000 is a great sports tourer 👍
I have always considered this as a bike to replace my 2004 Blackbird, which is temptingly ballistic, very heavy and the front locks up too easily. As an all year round commuter, it is the lack of lower leg fairing that puts me off. Am I being unnecessarily concerned?
I think you don't need to worry about the lack of leg fairing! This would be a great all year rounder commuter etc.. Very comfortable, great engine and good weather protection 👍
Hi Marcus, I know it is absolutely infuriating!! What sort of person in their right mind does that. Thanks so much, I appreciate that, really pleased you are enjoying the videos 👍
I have a Versys 650, and agree with you the Versys 650 and 1000 should be classified as sport touring, not adventure. The X300 is more of an adventure bike though.
I prefer these in the 650 parallel twin set up. I have a 2011 version and its been slightly modified because exhaust decided it wanted a big hole in it lol. Mines got 50,000 miles on it and just gone in for engine rebuild, weirdly worked even though id broken it. Its a bike that would normally last further than 50,000 miles but like i put, it had some work done to it, also i ride every day and on days off from work put about 400 miles on it just ragging it about through country lanes at quite a high speed, for any officers wanting to know how fast, erm 60mph, because speed limits, but doesnt mean im gentle to 60mph, i cant get my bikevto 60mph almost instantly lol. Big difference between mine and newer models is mine has no assists what so ever, no ABS, No traction control and the grip for thr throttle is directly connected to the engine so i put power on and its going to go. I think theyre brilliant bikes. I've heard that the newer versions of the versys (after 2015) 300, 650 and 1000 all accelerate relatively the same rate as each other, the 650 in my opinion is the better option because its light weight, peppy and will run forever... unless its mine, then itll run until the oil arms break, piston wears down, piston rings turn to powder and cam chain comes loose, but i literally chase 1000cc sports bikes on mine because its funny trying to explain why i kept up but also hard to explain why i kept up. I love my own versys more than my old TDM 900. The TDM 900 was good in straight lines, but bad in turns, the versys 650 i ride is good on both straight runs and twisties, but bad on motorway because i get bored on motorways and while not the bike at fault, i end up just blipping throttle or tend to just slouch down and try getting comfy. They do a stupid amount of miles to the tank which i love too. I can go from near Manchester to Coniston in lake district on about half a tank of fuel, going through Sabden, the A59, Sawley, Giggleswick, Wrathmel, A65, Kirkby Lonsdale, Winderemere and then the twisty back roads to lakes, keeps at a decent speed too.
@@redangrevival i love it, it takes me everywhere, if i feel like going Scotland, it takes me there without issue, if i feel like going Tenby in wales, takes me there. Parts on my bike being replaced are due to age and mileage. Even taken it off road once or twice following some friends, while its not the best off road bike, it does the job fairly well.
Hi wouldn't buy one just ugly to heavy dull 4 cylinder. Just bought my second multistrada good looking sounds nice etc. Ps your videos are getting better.👍
Hi Terry, same I would struggle to get around the looks! I didn't find the engine dull, but fair enough I know what you mean. The Multi's have bags of "character". Thanks glad you are enjoying the videos and I appreciate it 👍
It’s not an adventure bike, it’s an adventure styled bike. Kawasaki never intended it to be ridden on anything other than asphalt, hence the cast wheels and street tires. IMHO, the reason they’re so popular is because they’re all day comfortable with a neutral riding position.
Correct, I think I did mention that in the video. Absolutely not meant for any off roading! I completely agree, it is a fantastic and very comfortable sports touring bike
I owned one for 18 months from 2016. Was a good capable touring bike. Totally reliable but soon felt boring and bland. Yes the engine is smooth and grunty but too detuned in my opinion. Did a tour across Europe on mine with a mate on a 1200 GS. When riding hard up mountain passes and twisties the GS would leave the Versys. The 1250 GS would definitely completely out perform it. Its a good bike for a taller rider but if you're looking for a tall exciting adventure style bike there are better options out there. (Multistrada 1200, BMW S1000 XR, BMW R1200GS and KTM 1290 super adventure)
Hi, I think I would agree with you on this. Although the engine and handling are very good and smooth, I think I would possibly get bored of it after a while. May miss the excitement and immediate torque of a twin. In my opinion if you are after excitement look no further than the KTM SAS 😁
@@redangrevival Think I would agree, the reliability or lack of it on some KTMs concerns me. I shall keep touring on my crazy MT10, now that's a bike with character and a thirst!
Dang. What is it with Kawasaki and their current stubbornness with that on-brand naff green, to use its official Pantone name. Seems to be a recent thing? I’d quite fancy this in a deep bottle green/gloss black if green is non-negotiable. Frankly any colour that helps divert attention away from duck face.
@@redangrevival Thanks for your thoughts; good to know. I'm waiting for a test ride on both - if the video is anything to go by, the versys engine does indeed sound sweet. Thanks again and thanks for all the reviews.
To be honest having ridden it now and felt what it rides like I agree with you. It has no intentions of going off road, however it is a great touring bike with adventure style riding position 👍
I've got the 2016 SE version. This motorcycle is just a beast, the way it revs, the way it breaks... All a Kawasaki is with a top notch of comfort and readiness for long haul rides. Totally a Sports Tourer with that Japanese sporty soul, not an adventure bike
👍 I agree it is a brilliant sports tourer! I suppose adventure bike is used too often these days. This bike definitely has no intentions of going off road. Love the 4 cylinder
My first & last Kawasaki, great engine let down by poor quality finish especially the subframe hopefully the current version doesn't suffer the same issues.
That is a shame to hear. On this brief test ride the subframe seemed fine, and I didn't notice any bad quality. In longer term ownership things may pop up though. Kawasaki make a fantastic inline 4 👍 Cannot go wrong with this engine.
👌 Having refelcted on the title of this video I completely agree with you. It makes it all the better for it as well. A great comfortable sports touring bike.
I quite like this one the looks don't really offend me at all I am sure it's a nice ride too RR , but why is all these manufacturers put downpipes and collector box type parts up to the silencer in this horrible metal that just looks tatty in no time it just looks so cheap and nasty .👌👍
👍 Fair enough, looks can be so subjective to each individual! I am not a fan of the looks haha. Exhausts are big and ugly these days because of all the equipment they have to fit in them to meet emissions regulations. A shame, but I suppose it does help to save the planet! Can always switch it out for something nicer 😁 Cheers
I don't know if it is underrated or testriding it is impossible in my country. When I want to test BMW, Triumph, KTM, Honda or Yamaha I just call the dealer and take bikes for the spin, one by one. That way I bought KTM. When I try to take Kawasaki or Suzuki I have to pay deposit, pay for testriding it. It just repels me.
This is not a single guy's motorcycle or even a middle class bike. This is a "I'm a married professional, I don't need this much motorcycle but I can afford this, my wife isn't so fat she can't get on this thing, she tolerates my self-indulgence and sometimes rides with me, which is why she tolerates it" bike.
It absolutely has the riding position and dimensions of an adventure bike! A traditional sports touring motorcycle, has the dimensions of Kawasaki Ninja 1000/Suzuki GSX1000GT etc... Of course it is not designed to go off road, but like many "adventure" bikes these days, they never go off road. It can very well be compared to most adventure bikes on the current market 😁
Always had Ninja 600 or 636... many of. Went to a Versys 650, quality is shocking! Understand why people overlook Kawasaki now. The Versys is poor in all variants.
Its about how you use it, not how much you have 😉
Great to hear that you are enjoying your Versys. All the best
Tack sä mycket, hur är det efter ett år har du Inga problem 🤔 Jag har Indian Scout den tredje år ny 52 år så den här kunde vara bra for mig . Enough pover 🤔🇫🇮 👍👍🏍
Same.
Hi Rogga...I too am 55 years old and looking at a Versys 1000. I'm wondering how long you are able to ride in a day and how tall you are....thanks from Canada
how is it riding with a passenger ?

Hi JA - Did you consider the Honda NT1100? Cheers!
Cheers
Hi. I am seriously considering a Versys 1000 GT to tour with my 14 stone son (I am 16 stones). Do you think it will have enough power?
All motorbike's look great in the eyes of their owner's I agree with you I do not see many of these floating around just one or two now and then i see. I did get to sit on one at a NEC bike show a few years back its a beast and far too tall for me but I have spoken to owners out there who love them to bits. Great review

Enjoy
I went the other way, Versys much easier to tour on
what is an SAS?

Good review, as you said this is a Sport touring bike with adventure ergonomics ( upright seating position) , very smart !!! Kawasaki and Suzuki’s sport touring bikes have more lean forward seating position ( sporty) which is not comfortable on longer rides. Good and fair review; I´m super-happy with mine....
Many thanks.

its amazing bike, I've got one 2021, and it's sound brilliant, not like silent Suzuki, they designed air intake to deliver sound to your ears ... it's beast

The engine should be bomb proof when it's nearly 1100 cc and a low BHP for the size, it will last for ever, but ideal as a tourer you can depend on
Yup that is a great point. I have heard a few reports from long term owners saying they have had no problems at all 👍
Good review mate I've got the 650 and my friend has just bought the 1000 and riding his I really want one.
Cheers
I definitely took my 650 versys off road and it worked pretty well
Sigh....my Z900RS ended it's days in a small ravine off the side of a mountain road.
They ride nice but need the tune of the z1000sx they are 20bhp down and you notice it it's bland.
Cheers
Better you buy a GS1250
Better buy a car lol
@@tinker6435 Bad lean angle on cars. LOL
Haha!
Great video, I'm loving my 1000 S. Ticks all my boxes! 👌
Thanks so much I appreciate it 👍
I have a '19 SE, bought in late 2020, that I've put ove 25,000 kilometers on.
Best kept secret for sport touring bikes.
Did 1000 miles runs in a day in comfort.
Very smooth, comfortable and fast
👍 It’s a brilliant touring bike
I've had a couple of z1000sx's in the past. Thinking about getting one of these, but like you, im not so keen on the looks. Great review.
Many thanks, glad you enjoyed the review 👍 Great bikes
Very rarely see one here in American south. I’ve always wanted to try one! I ride Harley softail so I’m used to being laid back and comfortable. I never could ride a sport bike bec I hate the seat position. So I’ve never really got to enjoy a 4 cylinder engine. BUT this Versys is perfect 👍. I could ride that! I sat on one but didn’t ride it. Only thing I didn’t like was the seat felt hard as a rock. But I’m used to a touring seat on a harley
You might get away without wearing earplugs on this. I were earplugs on whatever I ride except oooer.
I think if you're going to pay the extra for the SE then the Tiger 1200 or KTM may be a better buy
Yes that is a fair point 👍 Although neither the Tiger or KTM have that brilliant inline 4 engine that Kawasaki do so well! But yes it is getting expensive and at that price range it is up against some tough competition.
Mate, the machine is a perfect match to the kit you're wearing on video day!
Haha thanks 👍
Great revue ,enjoyed that!
Thanks so much I appreciate that 👍
Great review.
Grossly underrated. I wonder how many GS owners test rode one of these before they followed the herd 🤣
@@ldnpredklasteri1166 I would go for the Suzuki 650 👍
my dad's just bought an ex demo kawasaki versys s from blade, not sure if it's this one but he loves it !
I guess it could be this very one!
Hope you are good, just seeing why I haven’t noticed any videos for a long time. 💪 ☀️
Hi, I’m all good thanks for asking. Just been sooo busy working etc…
@@redangrevival winters coming - stay frosty 🥶
Cheers
If something ever happens to my 2019 versys gt…….I’ll buy another one.
Haha well said Robert 👍 I hope you enjoy it for many miles to come!
@@redangrevival Thanks man.
👍 Thanks. I am yet to ride the V-Strom 1050, but I think I would be with you on that. Think the V-Strom would suit me better. Cheers
Hi Tom. Where I ride the roads are not in good condition and fairly bumpy. What is the ride quality like on bumpy roads ?
Cheers
@@Tom-zy6ke Thanks for your opinion Tom. It will be a big help to me as I live in a remote area and don't have access to test rides.
Another great review! How does this compare to a vstrom?
For sure two bikes is nice 👍 This would be a fantastic bike for touring
I have one of this , and now starting to make a RUclips channel which is traveling in Thailand:)

Good vid, I think I would find the sx more exciting to have 👍
Many thanks 👍 Yes I think the SX would definitely be more exciting! Maybe not as good for touring though.
I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the 2025 model's larger 1099cc engine's power and torque characteristics.
Thanks, yes I like to ride it. Great bike and power plant
@@redangrevival It's not out yet.
@@marct9587 I know but the current model is great, so bigger better engine should be good
Love the bike. Road tested one last week and it was a blast to ride but the only colour available was lime green, wich I absolutely hate. It's not the best at anything but a good all rounder, wich suits me fine. Pretty much the only thing keeping me away from this machine is the available colors.
It is a great bike 👍 The strongest point for me is the engine. A lovely comfortable sports tourer. Yes I agree I would have the black colour!!

Currently, I've got It set up as a Street-Sport Motorcycle, but the 650 still has much more off-road abilities than the Versys-1000 has.

I have a Versys 650, and agree with you the Versys 650 and 1000 should be classified as sport touring, not adventure. The X300 is more of an adventure bike though.
👍 Both great sports touring bikes, but yes I don't think they should be described as adventure bikes! Too road biased. Cheers
I heard that these bikes are usually bought by Batty Boyz. Best rap group in Southwark.
What about Kawasaki Versys Vs V Storm
Sounds like you are having a blast on your bike 👌
@@redangrevival i love it, it takes me everywhere, if i feel like going Scotland, it takes me there without issue, if i feel like going Tenby in wales, takes me there. Nice review 👍
Many thanks I appreciate it and glad you enjoyed it. All the best
Off topic, but where was the location of the church?
It is just outside of Swindon!

I know they seem very reluctant to stray away from this bold green. I think a few more colour options would be a great idea!

Such a beautiful motorcycle. It does so much but it does lack something that makes it less endearing than say a Triumph Tiger...

Honda NT1100 or Kawasaki Versys 1000s? Any thoughts/recommendations very welcome. I'm sure you've ridden both. Cheers!
Great question! Think at the moment I would go with the Kawasaki, I prefer the riding position and that 4 cylinder engine is a beauty 👌
@@redangrevival Thanks for your thoughts; good to know. I'm waiting for a test ride on both - if the video is anything to go by, the versys engine does indeed sound sweet. Thanks again and thanks for all the reviews.
I'm sure it's a great touring bike, but if you consider it as an adventure bike, then any bike on the market is one.

Not sold on the looks? She's thick and sexy. My first motorcycle was a 2019 versys 1000 se
Starting in 2021 they got a new subframe that can carry more weight.
It’s not an adventure bike. It’s a street bike with ADV ergonomics. Which to me, makes it brilliant.
Give me this over a GS any day...
Report the peasant in the van!
I know, I am very tempted! Have to try and keep your cool in those situations, especially when riding a motorcycle. Who does that, it is disgraceful.
That is strange, I don't know why they do that!
This is not a single guy's motorcycle or even a middle class bike.
This is a "I'm a married professional, I don't need this much motorcycle but I can afford this, my wife isn't so fat she can't get on this thing, she tolerates my self-indulgence and sometimes rides with me, which is why she tolerates it" bike.
feel like versys650 is better.
weight, temperature, gasoline usage ratio.
nobody speaking about the heat that will cook your right leg and your balls (only the right one)
I didn't notice it to be honest. Maybe need longer with the bike
Not an issue on my '18
You left your tripod
dude, it is sport touring bike not a adventure bike in any sense.
Fair enough, each to their own! I didn't find the quality to be that bad. Although definitely not on par with Triumph/BMW etc...
I would not recommend it offroad - that means it is a good bike for travel, but not the adventure
I travel gravel roads no trouble with this bike , really all I need for adventuring 👍without going in the dirt
English Joe Dirt?
To me bike with alloys can't be adventure bike ... just saying..
👍 I agree, thee are no intentions what so ever for this bike to go off road!!
