    I’m not big on these but this one is the best looking one to me I’ve seen. Makes want to add it to the collection later. 👊

      Right on. It wasn’t bad at all, just not my style. Someone will win it though, so fingers crossed!! Thanks for watching!

    I was a fan of karambits until I got a karambit...lol!! Not so much after that! Looks like it has decent aspects as a knife in general! Thanks for sharing brother!

      @Richard Davis In the right hands they are more than capable of carrying out their intended purpose! My hands are just not the right ones...lol!!

      Yeah, not my jam exactly. I’m sure it would be relatively intuitive to defend with, but this one felt a bit awkward in the hand. I’m sure that’s in large part due to my inexperience.

    Your "hawkbill" description was exactly what I was thinking. It's essentially a modern take on the traditional Pruner knife. I would imagine that, other than opening boxes, it would also be a great "tactical gardening" knife :) Thanks for another great review!

    • @GearedTowardGear1
      @GearedTowardGear1  5 лет назад +1

      You know what, JJ - it would make a PERFECT tactical gardening knife! Lol.
      I actually have a video already filmed on a Arthur Wright traditional pruning knife sent to me by a viewer in the UK. My first proper Sheffield, England made knife. Should be posting that video soon.

      @@GearedTowardGear1 Very cool! Some of the nicest traditional knives I've seen are from Sheffield. They were the cutlery kings in the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries.

    • @GearedTowardGear1
      @GearedTowardGear1  5 лет назад +1

      @JJ Cahill - absolutely. It’s an historic place that’s for sure. Rich in cutlery making history for centuries.

    I don’t carry for self defense either , not my jam here in rural Nova Scotia 😂..... and I’ve never once have thought about purchasing a karambit .... I’m sure it fits the bill and serves a purpose for others! But ... G10, D2 and ceramic bearings on the cheap is decent !

      For sure, the price is definitely fair for the quality & materials - just not my jam either.

      Hey unclecow! Nothing wrong with that my friend. In the right hands I could imagine this would be a devistating weapon. Your comment reminds me of Liam Neeson in the movie Taken, Lol. Thanks for watching as always.

    As somewhat gaudy as it is, I like it. I don't get the blackening on only some parts of the blade other than aesthetics. Blacked out is usually for a stealth advantage but this one I don't get. Other than that complaint, I like it. Looks like a fun carry but nothing serious at all. I'd still like to own one but I'm strange that way lol. Thanks brother, another good one!!!

    • @GearedTowardGear1
      @GearedTowardGear1  5 лет назад

      Yeah it’s totally a fun novelty play around with knife, and looks super aggressive. And it’s certainly functional for some things for sure. And yes, you are strange 😂😂. Thanks for watching brother.

    I kinda like it. Don't know what the heck I'd do with it, but it does look fun to fiddle around with. The ring does look a bit small to me though.

    • @GearedTowardGear1
      @GearedTowardGear1  5 лет назад

      Lol. That’s sort of where I landed. Definitely fun to play with, but I can’t see the practical application. As I would swing it around on my finger like a cowboy w/ a six shooter I couldn’t help but think “this is a bad idea”. Also, fun fact: the Karambit is made from 10% D2 and 90% Bear Grylls’ pee.

    Hi. A very thorough review of a style of knife you are not at all familiar with. I have never held one either. I personally don't think knives are a good self defence option. At least not folders. If someone attacks you, there knife is already out. They probably have experience using it and they are ready. We are suprised, scared, have to remove the knife from pocket and probably have only used it for edc. So we don't know how to use it and we want to defend not hurt so we hold back. I probably would not even think to try as i have never used or thought of my edc as a weapon.
    This could be a great tool for gutting fish, line cutting and similar tasks. It does look good and tacticool. Good health and stay safe.

    I agree not for me I don't carry a knife for self defense simply because I don't have the knowledge of how to fight with a knife but a great review as always and a cool knife just not my style

    Hey I subscribed to your channel I really like this Knife I think it looks cool honestly the function of a karambit doesn’t really suit me but the blade shape is very nice for cutting boxes and tedious tasks. And for that price why not

    • @GearedTowardGear1
      @GearedTowardGear1  4 года назад

      Hey Jeff, thanks so much for watching and for the sub! For the money it’s certainly not a bad deal. Not my favorite style but not too shabby.

    Sad to hear you don’t like karambits they’re my favorite style knife great vid though I would like to see a review on the defcon jungle knife karambit it’s one of my many favorite edc knives

    • @GearedTowardGear1
      @GearedTowardGear1  5 лет назад +2

      Thanks, Trap. I can see how they could be valuable for self defense in the right hands, but to me the blade shape doesn’t lend itself to EDC tasks well at all compared to other simpler blade shapes. If I need to cut a string off of a shirt in a restaurant I’m not pulling out a karambit, lol.

    • @bowsbulletsbucks5799
      @bowsbulletsbucks5799 5 лет назад

      @gearedtowardgear I completely understand that lmao not much need for a karambit in a basic uses on edc however I work for a moving company and open a lot of furniture boxes etc and my karambit is great for those things I find using the fine sharp tip a lot easier than a full blade risking hitting the fibers of the upholstery I can really get my blade under it with a comfortable hand grip and get nice long strokes without much effort but also travel to a lot of places far away from my home on Nantucket to move people and it’s not always the best areas and it’s just more comfortable knowing I have the defense style blade along with the functionality of a work knife

    • @GearedTowardGear1
      @GearedTowardGear1  5 лет назад

      What’s up, Trap! Yeah man for that use in a professional environment I can see that blade shape working very nicely! Using that acute tip to get under things could be very useful. My memory is coming back to me now, you’re the dude who met my mother when she was in Nantucket helping my aunt move, right? That’s still such a crazy story to me. You basically met my mom and all of my aunts. And then somehow remembered my RUclips channel name and found me. Lol. So cool man. 👊👊👊🍻🍻🍻

    I am not much of a karambit person. Have seen Doug Marcida hold and do some moves with one. I can see other uses for it. You seem to be doing curvy knives lately. Just saw the pruner and now the eagle.

    • @GearedTowardGear1
      @GearedTowardGear1  5 лет назад

      Yeah, Karambits don’t do it for me. And I don’t have anything else curvy on the docket, lol. Thanks for watching, Rick.

    QSP is a new name to me. I just looked up some of their other stuff. The Phoenix gets decent reviews. That Karambit design isn’t for me

    • @GearedTowardGear1
      @GearedTowardGear1  5 лет назад

      Yeah it’s a relatively new player in the market. They have some pretty popular models already, the Phoenix being one. The karambit style though? I’ll stick with my S&W Shield, lol.

    Not big on karambits. Except the Steel Will Censor 1362S. That thing is BAD ASS

  • @Hobbofett
    @Hobbofett 5 лет назад +1

    Cant get unboard with karambits , no real utility (in my opinion), just a defensive/offensive blade , which i have no use for . But I can appreciate the price point and materials .

  • @majorpain1251
    @majorpain1251 5 лет назад +2

    No karambits, ballisongs, automatics or OTFs for me. Just not interested. I do have a couple of QSP knives that I consider very good bang for the buck.

    • @GearedTowardGear1
      @GearedTowardGear1  5 лет назад

      For sure, QSP has some good high value stuff. I’m very similar to you - I don’t own a single Balisong, Auto, or OTF. Not a one. And this is my only karambit, at least until I give it away in my upcoming 1k GAW. Thanks for watching!!

  • @robertanderson1015
    @robertanderson1015 5 лет назад

    Not for me but thanks for the vid. It might be that if one carries and uses it for EDC actions it might be good. But I’ll pass.

    • @GearedTowardGear1
      @GearedTowardGear1  5 лет назад

      Maybe. In my brief testing I found the blade shape not well suited for most EDC tasks, but I’ve heard from several who love carrying them for EDC. 🤷‍♂️ - everybody has their own taste and preference that’s for sure. Hopefully whoever wins it can get some use out of it.

    gawd, I do some knife reviews, a different way then The Talking Hands group but you probably belong to. I'm not so quick to judge that's the reason why I can't stand many of The Talking Hands channels. I carry a cold steel Tiger Claw serrated every single day everywhere very EDC able. I like the finger hole, way better grip with a pinky or ring finger through the hole. You're just so quick to judge. That blade is actually not even that curved, same as a cold steel Tiger Claw, which makes it very useful. But like many Chinese designed knives there's a lot of Glitz going on with them, and of course cut corners, and then they throw in just plain old D2 Steel, making it affordable of course, to the masses.
    Then in 2-3 years, you'll never hear from them again. Cuz the name changed and they've moved on, making some other volume product.
