Where Is The Next RMC Hybrid Going? (Outdated)

  • What park could get an RMC hybrid? That's a question a lot of us have asked since 2011, but over time some about that has changed. Were not looking at retro-fit anymore, were looking ground up. First, a little bit of background. Within ten years of building their first coaster RMC has managed to bring wood structures to the hypercoaster level. Something like that just blows me away considering other manufacturers like GCI, Gravity Group, and Vekoma have yet to build a coaster that tall. Point is, Rocky Mountain Construction is not afraid to be different and take risks, to catch a parks eye. So what about the hyper hybrid. Ever since Texas Giant got refurbished using the IBox track, I think a lot of us pointed a finger at Mean Streak hoping that it would get this treatment. Once the track arrived on site we all would make predictions as to how tall it was gonna be, how fast, and… would it meet expectations. Well, when Steel Vengeance opened not just did it blow everyone away but it also changed the industry forever. Wood structures could grow taller than 200 feet and parks wanted one for themselves. So, on today's episode of Coaster Theory we ask, what parks should get an RMC ground up Hybrid or Hyper Hybrid. Some parks might not have the space to build something as big as Zadra, so maybe it would be a better option to build something like Twisted Timbers or Untamed ground up. We know Energylandia and Busch Gardens Tampa already took their shot, and both coasters are lined up to be some of the best thrill machines in the world. So, what parks would be interesting? We've seen parks all the way from the ‘Best’ amusement park to Zoos in Switzerland to small Six Flags parks get an RMC. So our possibilities are endless! I'll say this right off the bat, if I were to start my own theme park, a Hyper Hybrid would be one of the first coasters I would add. Why is this? Because right now the records are a toss-up. Any park can easily build one foot taller than Zadra to claim the record, and then they would get a lot of attention, that's exactly what we saw at Energylandia. Keep in mind Kolmarden is very small for a theme park and adding a massive wood coaster got them more attention, which makes it possible for a park in the middle of nowhere to want one of these, cause it can put them on the map. Also, the vast majority of these coasters are wood, which makes them cheaper than a B&M, Intamin, Mack… which would make more parks likely to get one. Canada's Wonderland already has three coasters over 200ft. However, they should still get a hybrid. Their coaster lineup could really use some cleaning up so there's really plenty of space if they're willing to rip up an older coaster, and there's also quite a bit of space in the back by Action Theater, which isn't being used for anything outside of Haunt at the moment.

Mark Goulet I kind of agree with you and would rather honestly have a raptor set a hyper hybrid because raptors take up less room into me they honestly look better in the hyper hybrid I have written steel vengeance and that’s like OK but I haven’t ridden raptor yet but honestly something like rail blazer or jersey devil looks a lot better I might be going to great adventure this year to go ride jersey devil I’ll see them what I like better but overall I think a raptor would be a much better fit

I think with how Carowinds is positioning themselves as a top tier park in the US, the most notable hole in their lineup is a wooden or hybrid. My bet is either RMC job to hurler, or a GCI woody in place of the rapids ride.

Thorpe is my home park, never thought you'd mention it but it would be PERFECT! The closest RMC to me is Untamed which is ridiculous.
There is plenty of space at Thorpe, either in the Loggers Leap spot you mentioned or on the island next to Swarm. There's easily room for a ≈150ft Hybrid. Main issue is Merlin are tight AF, though we haven't had a coaster for nearly a decade so it's well overdue.
By the way the spot of land you earmarked for a raptor is unlikely, Rush (scream+swing) is unlikely to be going anywhere. More likely is them removing the hotel near the entrance and building a bigger one off site then putting a slightly smaller jersey devil layout there

The park needs a standout coaster so badly and The Boss is perfect for it, especially now that its signature 570-degree helix is gone. RMC could go absolutely nuts with the terrain around it and make something truly unique.

In my opinion, there is no greater layout for an RMC than Hakugei at Nagashima Spa Land. It is 180 and 67 mph, so definitely one of the larger RMCs, it has absolutely phenomenal pacing, and it hauls through the track. Its layout has a double-up, outer-banked turn, double-down, zero-g stall, two wave turns, a zero-g roll, followed by some more airtime hills, (outer) banked turns, and another zero-g roll. Heavenly. Plus it looks absolutely stunning :)

Gardaland or Mirabilandia. There’s no wood in Italy period. There was Sierra Torrante but that got replaced with iSpeed. Gardaland is one of the most attended Merlin parks and the fact that they have no competition in this area is amazing. Parques reunidos don’t invest much except for Mirabilandia. So that kinda gives me hope.
Maybe even Walibi Rhone-Alpes in France since Compaigne des Alpes also own Walibi Holland and they don’t have like a massive woodie that they can retro fit, an exception to other compaigne des alpes’ parks (Parc Asterix, Walibi Belgium).

Hi, someone from the Netherlands here,
Parks over here don't really look at distance when considering new coasters, they mostly look at country's. For instance, a park like Movie Park Germany would not think "oh, Untamed is pretty close, lets not RMC our woodie". Instead, they look at what other parks in their country's are doing, sure, some parks in other, close country's are considerd, but it isn't that big of an influence compared to parks in the same country.

Us Thorpe Park fans joke about getting an RMC Hybrid all the time, but in all seriousness it would be *_the perfect_* fit for the park. The UK really lacks when it comes to modern wooden coasters, with Wicker Man at Alton Towers (2018) and Megafobia at Oakwood (1996) being the only major modern wooden coasters (if you can count 1996 as being modern lol). And in terms of hybrids, the UK has none whatsoever of course (even Europe as a whole only has a few). Installing an RMC Hybrid at Thorpe Park would give the park some real bragging rights and publicity, plus it would finally give the park the standout attraction it so desperately needs. Plus, I can't really see it being installed anywhere else in the UK.
    1) Alton Towers is a possibility, but has difficult restrictions and already has a wooden coaster (Wicker Man) that opened recently.
    2) Blackpool Pleasure Beach cannot upgrade their old wooden coasters due to conservation of nationally listed structures/buildings and has no other space to fit one.
    3) Parks like Flamingo Land would be a bit of a stretch for such a major investment.
    4) There aren't really any other major parks that would have the space or money for such an investment.
The only other park that could install an RMC Hybrid in the UK would be the far in the future London Resort park, where construction hasn't even begun yet, so although their massive plot of land would be able to fit a giant (possibly record breaking) RMC Hybrid, it'll be several years before it opens.
Anyway, this comment went on for waaayy too long, so I'm gonna end my point here.

On my most recent RMC creation in No Limits 2, it has a zero-g stall thats almost flat. It has awesome hangtime and it keeps the pacing alive by not slowing it down too much since it doesn't have to climb very high. Also, it has what I call a double zero g roll, its a floater airtime hill but has a roll on the way up and a roll on the way down. I'm doing my best to keep things original! Great video like always but a few things to correct:
    - Kolmården isn't a small park, it was unknown before Wildfire yes but in terms of size it's one of the biggest zoo in Europe and is part of a Swedish group of theme parks
    - RMC aren't that cheap anymore from what I've heard Untamed costed 15M€, Zadra is around 20M€ and SteVe is around 25M$, that's why they introduced the raptors models now as the cheap alternative. But yeah it's way cheaper than a Mack, a B&M or some Intamin but still in the same price range as a GCI, GG, Gerst or Vekoma :)
Keep up the good work, love your channel and theories ! :D

Cedar Fair would be smart to put an RMC hybrid at Dorney. Allentown is about two hours from Philadelphia and only a little bit further from NYC. The coaster lineup is already pretty solid with a hyper, floorless, invert, impulse, classic woody, wild mouse, and kiddie. With an RMC they would not only get more people coming from the local area but the park would become something of a destination especially if people were already going to Hershey or Great Adventure.

I whole-heartedly agree with updating Hersheypark's Wildcat.. Hershey is my home park, and I really feel that ANY upgrade to that coaster would be well-recieved. I think a nice compromise could be that instead of a GCI retracking, RMC could do a simple steel topper track with new trains and not modifying the layout.

I think its very unlikely for Hansa Park to get an RMC anytime soon.
    1) The park is very small and they probably don't have the budget to get a hyper. They also don't really need a hyper coaster right now imo.
    2) The park is literally next to the sea. Like 300 ft away. You can see it from many points in the park. The problem is that land around the park is shaped like a bay so the big structures in the park can be easily seen from nearby beaches. The only reason this isn't a problem with Kärnan is that the only thing you can see from that ride is the big tower. There are some factorys nearby that have a similar brick look to them so it doesn't really stand out as much as a bright wooden structure would. You also would hear the screaming people on an RMC.
    3) Safety. I'm not saying that RMCs are unsafe but the wind next to the sea is very strong. The main reason why safety is a concern is that RMCs just don't conform to all the german safety standarts. I know this because Colossos in Heide Park could have been RMCed but the park decided to retrack it instead because of that.
I could totally see Hansa Park getting a GCI or a GG shuttle coaster in the somewhat near future.
An RMC at the park would be great but I don't think it's an realistic option for now.

I would love to see some sort of large RMC conversion in the near future after Leviathan at Sea World Gold Coast will be made hopefully without delay in 2021. I would love to see a conversion that would give some more needed thrills so Queensland. I would love to see some inversions on the coaster but I feel like it would focus more on air time due to its twisty layout. The layout would also be similar to an out and back but with more of a circular layout. Awesome video, your channel is by far one of the best.

Kennywood needs to work with RMC. They should bring them in to either retrofit Thunderbolt (that's the only wooden coaster Kennywood can technically do that to since Jackrabbit and The Racer are National Historic Landmarks). Thunderbolt has gotten brutally rough the last few years. The terrain that it runs through would be amazing for an RMC. Maybe even a lauched RMC? or a Raptor would work well at Kennywood running down thru that valley the Thunderbolt and Phantom runs through, and have it twist through the 2 of them. (Although, that area and layout would be amazing for a blitz coaster, too. )

Maybe have 3 different tracks, with the third track being the most thrilling with inversions.

If I’d have an RMC built I’d have a 100-150 ft hybrid called Rock Star, it would have a more compact layout with a crazy wave turn and a zero g stall and maybe a new element for an RMC like a slightly overbanked helix. It would also have some theming like maybe have part of the ground around the ride is made to look like a concert stage.
As for a coaster that should be RMC’d. I think Magnus Colossus, an sbno coaster in Spain, should be RMC’d, it’s built on a mountain terrace and it looks like it has a ton RMC potential

Look I know this gets said a lot but the perfect candidate for RMC in North America right now is The Boss at SF St. Louis. Right now the ride is ridiculously rough. They already have an awesome New Gen wooden coaster in American Thunder and they have an old school woody in Screamin Eagle. The Boss has the perfect structure for a crazy terrain RMC hybrid and it already has a drop of 150ft. What is another 50 feet? CCI sucks and CCI with Gerstlauer trains are even worse. This is the draw SF St. Louis needs to compete with Worlds of Fun, Silver Dollar City, Holiday World, and to a lesser extent SF Great America.

I know this is a HUGE long shot and nobody likes Six Flags America, but if they RMCd Roar, it honestly might bring the overall quality of the park up by a lot, making Six Flags actually do some maintenance on it instead of just neglecting the park. What about Six Flags: Great America?
Yes. They already have an RMC, but it's probably the easiest one to relocate because its almost a perfect rectangle. Not only can they move Goliath to St. Louis, America, or Darien Lake, and have it be #1 ride at the park, but its CHEAP! (Six Flags favorite word!) Also, Great American Eagle would be a conversion, not ground up, (cheaper). If they made Gwazi 205' when it was previously 105', just imagine what RMC could do with American Eagles 160'. It is the last conversion that can take records and hopefully Six Flags sees the potential in making a move like this.

One popular rumour is American Eagle at Six flags great America getting the RMC treatment. Although, if they did it, it would probably be small in height and a lot of corners would be cut to bring down the cost. That ride has so much potential and they'll probably screw it up. Lol

I think Kings Island should get an RMC. Personally it doesn’t matter what kind, it could be a raptor or a hyper hybrid, but it should go where vortex was at. There’s a big gap in KI’s coaster line up for intense coasters and an RMC would be great for the park

If Thorpe Park were to get a raptor it would most likely be on the island near the swarm and would have a custom layout. Also the plot of land pointed out in this video for a hybrid would have to wait at least 4 years as the only free space to give access to guests from the rest of the park is currently taken up by 2 scare mazes for fright nights. So Hershey is my home park. Growing up there with season passes means walking by Wildcat on every visit and just sighing. I don't even ride it these days. I'd rather them RMC lightning racer because, in my opinion, it would draw more attention and dueling definitely isn't off the table for RMC. Either would be great, so it doesn't really matter. What do you think about the space with both of these rides though? Wildcat's layout is compact it's right on the edge of the park, and Lightning Racer is crushed between the waterpark and the edge of the park.

I really hope they RMC Wildcat at HersheyPark. It’s my home park and I’ve been dying to ride an RMC, plus wildcat is an awful ride. No one rides it anymore, it gives people headaches it’s so rough and is just not an enjoyable ride whatsoever. The park can be crammed and there will still be no line for it. I know it has history but there’s no saving it. And if they won’t RMC Wildcat, I would love them to build a ground up RMC hyper. I think Canada’s Wonderland needs a ground up hyper hybrid to beat the height, speed, and vertical angle records (hopefully not just by one foot/kilometre per hour/degree). I think it should be the second longest hybrid (not beating Steel Vengeance) but over 5000 ft long so it feels like a long ride. Maybe it could even beat or at least tie the inversion record. It would do so well at the park, especially considering Canada’s Wonderland gets higher attendance than Cedar Point. They should take down Wilde Beast and build it back there where they can go almost all the way to the street past the parking lot next to the kids area.
    Also, what’s your podcast called?

If I could do an RMC Layouts, of course a Hybrid. make 207ft tall, 92.5 degree drop. The elements on the first elements would be: Jojo Roll out the station, lift hill, drop, speed hill, reverse Zadra Turnaround, and Iron Gwazi's Death Roll, but it stalls.... So more of a Death Stall.

You seem to forget about the hyper concept that Vekoma made for Energylandia back when it was a contest between it an the (IMO) inferior Intamin, Vekoma is fully capable of building hyper coasters, it's just that their would-be debut was shafted for an Intamin that only got worse with each revision of the layout. It's Vekoma's lost project, honestly if Lech Coaster and their other new coaster models are up to the hype then I'm pretty sure it would have blown the lackluster Intamin they actually built out of the water with that AMAZING looking twister finale.
Vekoma is fully capable of building hyper-coasters, it's just that no park has yet to pull the trigger on one yet for some reason even if the one concept they did kicked Intamin's ass.
If you're confused as to what I'm talking about this is the ride in question; ruclips.net/video/NFQaFSs7PmE/видео.html, BTW this is the Vekoma that opened my eyes to how good they've become.
