I seriously don't even know how this is a question. Surya landed 5 clean triples. Yuka landed 6 clean triple. Surya had 2 visible flaws, Yuka had none. Surya skated on the flat of her blade the whole time, telegraphed every jump, and spent the better part of the program doing crossovers. Yuka had beautiful glide and knee bend. She moved effortlessly through the program with speed and joy, and had the best spins. Surya simply wasn't a great _skater_ . People love her because she was a dynamic jumper and a flashy personality, but she also was entitled and bratty. She lied about where she was born, wore ostentatious costumes- all to make herself seem exotic, and then complained when people called her "exotic". This was Surya's best free skate, and I loved it too. However, Yuka deserved the win. And to be honest...even if Surya truly was robbed, it is still no excuse for her behavior. Part of the bargain world class figure skaters make with their sport is that it is subjective and they are at the mercy of the opinions of a group of strangers who have expertise in the field. For more than a century, people have been judged at their skating ability and there are far more egregious instances of "unfairness". No skater is immune.
What doesn’t make sense is at the last 20 seconds was the best skate of the whole show and he was saying oh it’s hard to get due 30 seconds more of the commentator but not from Michelle
Ironic that Surya was protesting the result at this world championships, when '93 was definitely the year she deserved to win and was harshly underscored (and Oksana Baiul way overscored). This year, the result was fair.
Michelle Kwan really grew as an artist andin strenght and skating skills. Her she appears coltish and if she were not the great American hope here I think the judges could have sewered her. Her jumps were puny,not great flow, positions were weak in spins. Even Surya had stronger positions but hard work would serve her well. other skaters from different countries might have been pushed down further. Yuka was the more complete skate. I feel for Surya still her behaviour and her moms interferingnot good at all.
Typical. Always the victim. Did not get what she wanted, so it must be racism. They should just have their own exclusive events instead of participating in what other people have established and then cry racism every time they lose
