      @@waynehentley4332 i have no criticize to receive about figure skating knowledge. even if the quality of skating of surya was not still good enough it was just scandalous to give 5.7 and 5.8 for technic to oksana who had a poor technical programm without any combo. oksana baiul should have not finished higher than 3rd in the free. as at the olympics. lu chen and surya bonnaly should have been placed higher here. with the short programm where i would have put oksana 1st in front of kerrigan and bonaly my final result would have been 1st bonaly 2nd baiul 3rd chen. and i m bored by person who speak of charm and charisma. some jumps of oksana were weak. her spins were not difficult and always the same. her steps were not difficult. her choreography was.not very mature. she did not deserve to be world champion in 1993 and to be olympics champion in 1994. that s my opinion and i don t care if the big professr you pretend to be disagree

    Had Surya been a senior a few years back, say '87 and '88, she might have won a few years in a row since judges were judging athleticism back then. I doubt she would have beaten Midori Ito in '89 but she could have given her a run for her money! Also, I feel like I should want to like Nancy but I just don't. She comes off as whiny. I know she doesn't like being in front of the camera, and I understand she was upset about her performance, but something just puts me off. I don't know what it is.

    Either Surya or Lu Chen would have been more deserving of the gold than Oksana. Both of them were so much higher than Oksana technically, and Lu's artistry was much more authentic and profound than Oksana's cheesy Broadway program.

    • @ManuelPabloArnao
      @ManuelPabloArnao 3 месяца назад

      I agree. I think Lu should have won but she wasn't in the top 3 after the short so it should have gone to Surya. Oksana was great but only had 5 triples/2 double axels with no combinations and 3 shaky landings.

    My ranking is: 1. Baiul 5.8/5.8 (Oksana had presence and artistry well beyond her years and she skated with a lot of speed); 2. Chen 5.8/5.7 (Oksana skates with more speed and presence than Lu; many of Lu’s jumps were landed at a standstill); 3. Bonaly 5.8/5.5 (Surya had little speed going into and coming out of her jumps and the skating skills and musicality just isn’t there).

      I'm very confused by your marks. I kinda wanna challenge you on some of them.
      Could explain how Oksana and Surya would both have 5.8 where Oksana didn't have a clean Double Axel, a triple triple combination, a repeat triple or any combination in her program vs Surya who had all those components, 7 triples and a variety of spins?
      Whilst I agree Oksana had greater presentation, I can't possibly mark her technical the same as 5.8 unless I would put Surya as 6.0.
      As far as artistic impression for Surya, if I look at every World performance Surya had from 89, 90, 91 & 92, I can understand 5.5 since her focus was solely on jumps and she still was maturing.
      This 1993 Worlds shouldn't warrant her marks less than 5.7 in my opinion especially when you compare other programs like Tanja, Lenka, Josee, Nancy etc who either were young and inexperienced or had mistakes in their programs.
      She may not have had greatest artistry but in no way it should be that low for 1993. She was clean and fantastic.
      I would have the marks as followed:
      Surya 1st 5.9 5.8
      Chen 2nd 5.7 5.9
      Oksana 3rd 5.4 5.9
      Would be great to hear your points

      @@Salmiyaguy1 I appreciate it and thank you, I definitely like some people are watering down her artistic impression in these worlds either because of their love for Oksana or other skaters, their bias in general against Surya, her previous performances or her background prior to skating. • @gk891

    I love Lu Chen's program but what's noticeable for me about her is that she lacks the power and glide that Sato and Kerrigan had.

    • @grantgoffin4774
      @grantgoffin4774 6 месяцев назад

      Kerrigan bombed badly though, so there is no case of her winning any medal here, regardless if her skating has more power and glide than some. She always bombs the long program too. At the 91 worlds she was an unknown and beat out Midori Ito and the highly hyped new European Champion Bonaly for the bronze, but that was due to Ito injuring herself in the short and missing a whole bunch of jumps in the long as a result, and Bonaly falling twice and having novice level skating skills at that point. Nancy herself fell, made several mistakes, didn't even try a triple loop, and only had 4 triples, some with shaky landings. In Albertville she had an excellent short that was a close 2nd to Yamaguchi, and arguably should have been 1st over Kristi, but had a bad long program and dropped to 3rd behind Ito, and should have probably dropped right off the podium, but got held up by the judges. At worlds in 92 she moved up to 2nd after being only 3rd in the short, but that was only how horrible everyone else skated, her own skate was bad, and worse than the Olympics. Here she bombed like she did at those events, but unlike those events there were more than 1 or 2 people skating well and she dropped to only 9th in the long. Her coaches put her on a new training regime since 93 worlds showed she would no longer get away with half assed long programs full of mistakes like she had gotten away with consistently the past 2 years.

    • @gk891
      @gk891 6 месяцев назад

      @@grantgoffin4774 It was just a general observation that her general skating skills were not quite up to snuff relative to the likes of Sato and Kerrigan. I still had her ahead of both ladies at these Worlds.

    • @grantgoffin4774
      @grantgoffin4774 6 месяцев назад

      @@gk891 I had Sato ahead of Chen in the long program, but I don't know about overall. I had Baiul 4th in the long program behind Chen, Bonaly, and Sato all in some order. I had Kerrigan 1st in the short but 11th in the long instead of the 9th she got. I agree Chen is not lacking skating skills but does not have the glide, speed, power of Kerrigan, Sato, or even Baiul.

    • @grantgoffin4774
      @grantgoffin4774 6 месяцев назад

      @@gk891 I am wondering how you would have had the results at all 3 of the 91, 92, and 93 worlds for ladies. 91 worlds some say Ito should have beaten Kerrigan for the bronze. Both landed 4 triples, but Kerrigan had a lutz, flip, and both had a triple toe-triple toe, and one of Ito's had a three turn out. While I think Nancy's so called artistry is overrated, her performance did have more punch and style that day than Ito's who was skating badly injured.. So I have to agree with that result. Some say Tonya should have beaten Kristi for the gold. I am not sure about that either. Tonya had the triple axel but only 4 triples to 6 for Kristi, and inferior choreography. I am not even a Kristi fan but I think that was probably the right result. The 92 worlds were such a mess I change my mind about 5 times there, outside of Kristi winning. I think Chouinard and Preston both should have finished higher though. And 93 worlds I thought Chen or Sato deserved the gold, Bonaly the bronze, and Baiul 4th.

    • @gk891
      @gk891 6 месяцев назад

      @@grantgoffin4774 Oh, for sure! I agree with Yamaguchi winning the 1991 and 1992 Worlds. And I agree with Harding winning silver at the 1991 Worlds. But with 2nd and 3rd in 1992 and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in 1993 I would need to watch the performances again as it's been a while. TBH, I'm not a fan of watching Baiul or Bonaly so I can barely get through one of their performances! I also have not watched Ito or Kerrigan's LPs at the 1991 Worlds in ages.
