MOEDERKOEK FARAH WIDMER

Ieder van ons was ooit via de navelstreng verbonden met de placenta. Toch weten we maar weinig over de moederkoek.
Nog steeds is het een van de minst onderzochte en minst begrepen organen van het menselijk lichaam. De dualiteit van de placenta, die moeder en kind zowel verbindt als scheidt, maakt haar voor kunstenaar Farah Widmer tot een symbool voor de poreuze grenzen tussen de ene persoon en de ander.
In MOEDERKOEK laat Widmer placenta's van klei en poëzie zien. Daarbij onderzoekt ze autofictie, medische illustratie en intersubjectiviteit.
Each of us was once connected to the placenta through the umbilical cord. Yet we know very little about the placenta. It is still one of the least studied and least understood organs of the human body. For artist Farah Widmer, the duality of the placenta, which both connects and separates mother and child, makes it a symbol of the porous boundaries between one person and the other.
In MOEDERKOEK, Widmer shows placentas made of clay and poetry. In the process, she explores autofiction, medical illustration and intersubjectivity.
