Falfa's 55 Chevy is 1 of 3 in the movie. 1 for cruising scenes 1 for camera car and 1 stripped to reduce weight for racing scenes. This is the race car version, which was the same car used from 2 Lane Blacktop and the same car used for the Trans am sound effects in Smokey And The Bandit. 2 stunt men couldnt roll this car, so the crew put it upside down. Notice the trunk lid before and after fire. Open then closed. When camera pans to front when Milner is moving Falfa around back of car, look on left side of upside down car floor beside frame. Theirs a box wrench left there by a crew member. Cindy and Ron's love scene was improved, as they were dressed ready to go home, when producer got them to the site as their "twilight hour" was fading.
Good post! I had a friend like him in the early 1980's in high school. He looked somewhat like Toad, but my friend was a lot taller. The cool thing, he was never a jerk, always in a good mood, and he was always up for anything on a Friday or Saturday night. For me, those were the good old days!
Yeah....the cat looked and acted like a nerd, however that was the why he was portrayed as a loveable nerdy kind of guy that made you love him all the more.
I used to street race a '69 Chevelle SS 396... it's a trip... 4 speed hurst... .373 rear end with posi... Muncie M21... fun times but dangerous... I was 16 in 1989 when this went down... racing grand nationals and what not...
The movie was shot in Petaluma, not Modesto, but all the references in the movie are about Lucas’ hometown of Modesto. Going to watch the re-release on Sunday at the State Theater in Modesto, a couple of blocks from 10th & 11th Streets, the cruise featured in the film.
Love this movie I'm 40 years old raised on good oldies music but it if falfa won't have spun out he had a chance both iconic cars 55 chevy 2 door post 32 Ford coupe
I've read every MAD Magazine since the mid 60s. They spoofed a lot of movies. But there were two movies they did not make fun of. This one and One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest.
@@feponcio I realize now that I wasn’t clear in my comment. Yes, MAD covered it but didn’t “spoof” those two. Meaning to me, did not make fun of, make light of, or otherwise ridicule the movie as they would with other movies, but rather accentuated what the movie was about. And I still have that MAD issue!
When John's car at 1:06 filps over the roar of the engine _ sounds like a combination of a lion/grizzly bear. Everything I see this scene and here it that's what it sounds like to me. Anyone agree??? _ please tell either way thank you.
The best part of the remastered movie was the improved sound. There's only so much you can do with the original film, but the soundtrack is much improved...and the music is sooooo important to this movie! 👌
Killed by a drunk driver. Touched upon that with Carole in the Junkyard. Telling her about a friend who got wiped out by a drunk. Not even his fault, but paid the ultimate price. R.I.P. John Milner.
After the roll over, there’s just enough of the movie shot, that shows, they don’t make cars like they used to! There doesn’t seem to be a dent in the fenders and the last time I rolled a car, there was grass and weeds sticking out everywhere. But on the 55, the tires looked ruff, but not bad, and one blade of weed lying on the bottom of the 55. Lol I can fix it!
Agreed, however back then, yiu had normal sized 14 and 15 inch wheels and tires on these cars and trucks unlike today with this silly looking, stupid looking wagon wheel and thin tire craze going on these days.
Milner won this race. Falfa over drove his car and crashed. Like passing a car and not making the next corner for example. Milner for the win! Chin up dude 😂
It was found in a junkyard ready to be crushed when it was rescued, fixed up to look like the one that did have the big block chevy in it, as the wheels were painted with aluminum paint to look like Chrome Reverse wheels. They weren't gonna waste the big block 55 chevy for this scene. Far as we all know, could have had a small block engine in it, however you get my point.
By far. He had a great start and a great pullaway into momentum. Falfa might woulda caught up with him but honestly he had the straighaway open which he didn't have the first time. Stop light and the girl being in the car with him messed with his head. This time no distractions and way better job started sealed it for him. Taking the reck away it wouldn't have mattered, he still woulda won. Falfa was both too full of himself and too distracted with Howard's girl in the car, but John's car pulled through there too.
There must have been several things that could have made Falfa loose control of the car. Yes, I understand it is a movie scene but it does happen in real life. My guess is that the car was pulling to the right some how suddenly .
He broke traction, tried to steer into it and drifted off the road. Trying to steer back up on the road caused him to turn over in the incline. Would have probably stayed upright if he had just drove out into that field instead.
Love Booker T. and the MGs Green Onions as the background music!
One of the best scenes from the movie and one of the many iconic of Harrison Ford career

Everyone should have a friend like Toad,,, but, not many Deserve one like him... 😜🤣🤘

Frates rd Petaluma. I've hauled hay out of the field across the rd. It's all houses on that side now.
The name "Modesto" sounded familiar, and that's where I realized that it's the town the Universal Life Church was founded in.

They did!!! American Car-Daffy! John Sevrin was the artist
MAD Magazine actually did spoof "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". It was in a 1976 edition of the magazine.

The best song in this scene
“Green Onions” by Booker T and the MG’s
It's the only song in this scene 😂

classic film 👌
And yes... Milner was pulling hard and pulling away when Falfa rolled it...
God Bless America
Yes. THAT America, the peoples America. The rural beuatiful innocent America.

TOTALLY AWESOME !

The 55 they rolled was a 2 door hardtop, any other 55 lovers spot that
No I missed that and should not have
Greatest thing about this movie is that it happened in one night

The fastest car there would be the 409 ss impala heading to the end of the race!
Let's see, this is my 347 time watching this.... 😎😏
Shinbone CLIMATE GRINDER has "THE PLAN!!"
Milner won.

But "Shinbone wants statehood"
Don't forget he took off The Headers before the race at the gas station!!!!!!!!!!!
George Lucas said they couldn't get that 57 to flip over they actually had to ramp it over.
55
I had a '55. Four door though. I rolled it 360°, right back on its wheels and drove away. Hardly a mark on it. That was a tough car.
@@willrothfuss8470 Amazing, the craftsmanship of those cars never cease to amaze me. Anyone would be safe in that car .
@@AudioAndroidFar cry to the Detroit junk rolling off the assembly lines of today, I shoukd say.

Anyone else notice the brake lights come on johns car halfway into the race?
High speed rollover with just lap belts (if that) and they just walk away not even dirty 🙄
Have a friend that lives on the real paradise road in Modesto.
Nobody cares
I mean he did say he was gonna be turned into a field car
Coul
Did the crowd just leave ?
Does Harrison Ford's character die in the crash?
If you saw 2, he should have got on the plane.
C'est joli
How in the hell did they survive that crash without seat belts? Those metal cans would have killed them for certain.
It’s a movie 😂. Besides back then in real life racers did use lap belts and the car does have a roll bar in it.
There are times when I watch this and think: Are the police asleep? Just saying.
Who was Ron Howard calling a SOB? MIlner or Falfa?
Tall gears in rear end.if they came to slo they woulnt have been fastest car.
How the hell did he wreck?
He broke traction, tried to steer into it and drifted off the road. Trying to steer back up on the road caused him to turn over in the incline.
Would have probably stayed upright if he had just drove out into that field instead.
@@RickNethery agreed.
I think the loud bang right before he loses traction is a tire popping.
Right front tire blew out.
Too bad,it was a cool car.
