When I was small, I caught a jumping spider and kept it for about a week, catching multiple mosquitoes every day. Reading about how they usually eat once every few days, that was probably the best week of that spider’s life.

Those looks like Aedes aegypti, they spread dengue (breakbone fever), yellow fever, zika and chikungunya - some are very nasty diseases! - here in Brazil O_o Used to be very alergic to mosquito bites when I was a kid (places bitten swell a lot), but eventually build immunity and now the bites are just annoying And the jumping spider looks like she's going to lay eggs :D

And I had no idea they actually drink water! That was a new one on me, as I didn't know if spiders drink water to stay hydrated or if they got hydrated from eating insects. Thank you for this vid, it was both fascinating and informative.

There is a possible way you can force a mosquito to keep sucking your blood by tightening your skin so that its proboscis gets stuck in your skin. If that works, the mosquito could possibly explode because they can't stop pumping blood. I think I had done that once when I was a kid decades ago, but I did not keep going until that happened, I don't remember much about it though. The myth of flexing your muscle to do the same thing would not work because your muscle is way so deep under your skin that the mosquito would not even be able to reach it. But even if it reached your muscle, flexing your muscle would still not work. Tightening the skin around the puncture works best, you just have to be slow & sneaky about it or else it will fly away.

Jumpers don't bother me, but I don't like wolf spiders, they crawl on you at night.
