I like the voice over, it’s a nice change. You don’t have to fill it all of the footage but adding tips here and there helps
I saw Chris in the Woodyard do a video where he narrated the whole thing, thought I’d give it a try!
You must be so busy with the storm we had in our area. Tree crews are everywhere! Hope you fill up the wood yard!
Yep it kept us busy for a few days!
Many of us that split regularly appreciate it when you show the challenges you face and how you overcome them. We are looking for tips and tricks to overcome our challenges. Watching someone split perfect rounds with ideal machines isn't our experience and is only fun to watch occasionally. Thanks for providing a channel that helps me improve my process.
Thanks, I try to keep it real and show what I’m doing day to day.
Be kind to yourself buck those big rounds into quarters save your life from an early Cardio Infarcation. Some suggestion from a northhern neighbour in Nova Scotia Canada. Have a great time.
Take that log and roll it in the bucket so the back of the bucket is all the way on the ground. The log will rest on the bucket and only need the thumb to balance it
Great video Jake
Great video!! Glad you're getting more green firewood customers. Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
Hey Jake, I cut allot of my bigger logs using my inverted splitter on the skid steer like you use your mini. I usually keep a large round on end and I rest the the log on it and only use the inverted splitter to hold it from rolling off. Takes all the work off the machine. Getting done buddy!
That’s a good idea
My preference is no music and no sped up video. I love hearing the machines and the saw! Great video man!
Cool, thanks!
The dumpster can truck is a great setup Jake. I like the green firewood marketing plan. Minimal touches is the key.
It works really well for what I’m doing!
Hi Jake, some of those logs looked about capacity for that wee loader of yours. Some times when handling huge old man pines or macracarpers (4-6fters) I would rip them then buck them made the resulting bits easier to handle. Still bloody heavy though. Good video indeed. Love that splitter. Cheers from HB NZ
I wonder if Adam is ever going to run his splitter? 😂 I guess I can watch yours run.
lol he just makes videos on firewood, doesn’t actually produce anything 😂
Rock 'n' roll, Bro! Jam on.
🤙🏼🤘🏼
Great video Jake... that splitter might work better on the excavator I'm thinking...
I agree
I've been ripping really big rounds in half with the chainsaw. It doesn't take long and it's easier than wrestling with them up on the splitter.
To each their own, I disagree
@@DudeRanchDIY I didn’t say you should, I said it’s easier for me. After an abdominal wall reconstruction I can’t risk wrestling 400 pound rounds on the splitter 😎
That makes sense!
Congratulations on getting some more green wood customers 😊 I've always wondered if with the big rounds you could start on one side, then flip it 180 degrees and whittle your thickness down to the optimal width to go through the box wedge, then roll it 90 degrees to finish out so the majority of the splits would be a uniform size 🤷 Maybe I'm overthinking it and it would cause more work than it would be worth. Good video and good splitting 👍
Thanks! Yeah you could kinda what I was doing here but only flipping it once
Jake it’s a shame that Sara wasn’t able to be there with you in this video 😮❤
Did you consider noodling the big rounds down to size after the MS-324 failed to split the rounds the first time?
Not even for a second, noodling takes a lot of time and creates a mess that takes even more time to clean up. Faster and in my opinion easier to just send the big rounds through and let the machine do what it’s designed to do.
Why don’t you noodle them into 4 pieces each. Easier to handle and much easier to split with box wedge
Because that causes a mess and takes significant time. It’s faster and in my opinion easier to just split the big pieces.
@@DudeRanchDIY100% agreed. My Timberwolf alpha 6 will devour stuff like that with ease.
Green or seasoned ,takes the same effort. Charging the same just makes sense.
I’m able to save space in the yard and time with deliveries and moving individual totes hence the discount.
That was a good video But that splitter doesn't work too good Maybe I don't have enough pressure I'm going to Woodstock I live right down the road from there Nice place So have a good day my friend was she again
Hey Jake. Gotta go around outside of those big bastards first(basically take sap wood off 1st) then do the center.
Yep it wasn’t having it, would’ve taken too long that way.
This is just something for you to think about, the splitter on your track machine let's say you have a 4 inch cylinder and your psi is rated to 1500 psi you will push 9.5 tons of you increased to 4.5 inches kept the same psi your push force will be 11.9 call it 12 tons BUT a bit slower if this helps you. Right now you can't bust big rounds.
It’s rated to 3,000psi
@@DudeRanchDIY what size cylinder?
That’s all I’ve been doing on my 22-28. Large ass rounds. You have to be careful. One of the halves on the 4 way I was using on the log lift side fell backwards in between the push plate and the hydraulic control tower. I couldn’t get to the levers quick enough to stop the pusher and it pinched the large piece in between and bent the support tower to the point where it snapped the weld at the bottom of the tower 90° where it is horizontal to vertical. Was so pissed.
Yep gotta keep an eye out, that’s why I like the box wedge for the big rounds, you just have to worry about one pieces instead of 4
Unfortunately I had to use the 4 way as the large older silver maple rounds I had were just getting crumbled like a dry cookie by my box wedge. The only way I could get any salvageable firewood was to bite the bullet and just take my time.
For what it is worth I would put down a couple of 2"X10" or 2"X12" for the can to roll on. Or some big channel iorn, would cost more but last longer and could be moved if you change things around.
Good idea!
@@DudeRanchDIY If you do that you need to go two feet or more past the end of the can to keep the front from coming up when you put all the weight on the back picking it up.
Oh my goodness Jake stop talking! You could at least let us heard the machine run for a little while Lol you talked it to death! Anyway still a great video lol have a great day!
Can’t make everyone happy 🤷🏼♂️
kinda frustrating to watch.lol.ripping them into 1/4S might have ben faster. had a fella gift me pile of cull logs . took forever 30-35 pieces per chunk.thanks . split on!!
I don’t think it would’ve been faster at all, especially when you consider all the time it would take to clean up all the saw dust.
they wanted GREEN, and that wood as green as it gets, , you could have taken a little of that wood out the can, and still not shorted them at all, it is good to be fairly precise in measures, keep everyone honest and satisfied, some folks will EXPECT you to give them extra every time. because you did it last time.
I’d always rather give a little more than give a little less!
How do you the ibc totes for free
I just call around to a lot of places that use them and have found consistent supply of them.
That box wedge is just shredding the wood. Not good.
It shreds the knots inside, does a shredded edge burn any less than a clean edge?
Only jst realised the fact that you are not using a handle mit/ glove & no chaps or obvious looking chain proof pants , please correct me if I am wrong , take a step back reacess the play , I really don't want to see anything happen to you on one off your videos, not too many second chances with saw accidents, please take care ..
