Hegel's Dialectics explained according to Žižek & Dolar: "Substance is Subject"

- The philosophical concept most often associated with Hegel is none other than dialectics. It is the basic idea underlying all of Hegel's thought. Dialectic is multiform. Hegel thinks aesthetics, history and science through it.
In this video I will explain what dialectic means in Hegel. In doing so, I will explain dialectics in its ontological and epistemological aspects, according to the interpretation of the Ljubljana School, which includes philosophers such as Slavoj Žižek, Mladen Dolar and Alenka Zupančič. These aspects are the most important, because Hegel's dialectic is a reaction to Kant's epistemology, which he describes in the Critique of Pure Reason.
Dialectics is often divided into three concepts: Thesis, Antithesis and Synthesis. This is completely wrong. Hegel does not use these terms to describe dialectics in any of his texts. In his Lecture on History, Hegel even accuses Kant of thinking too schematically according to thesis, antithesis and synthesis.
In the preface to "The Phenomenology of Spirit" (1807) - Hegel's first major work - he sums up his thinking quite differently in the following sentence:
"In my view, which must be justified by the exposition of the system itself, everything hangs on apprehending and expressing the true not as as substance, but just as much as subject ." If we are to understand dialectics in Hegel, we must grasp the meaning of this proposition.
In order to understand this sentence, I will explain the dialectical relation of Being and Nothingness from the beginning of Hegel's "Science of Logic", relate it to Kant and contextualist this by giving a short history of the substance-debate in philosophy.

Absolutely stellar work, I was in utter shock once I realized you don't have thousands upon thousands of views. I'd wager its a mere matter of time before this channel gets flooded with the attention it truly deserves. The production value is outstanding and it is greater than other videos on this subject due to the fact that this video is created by people who speak German, which is the language of the source material. As someone who can speak German very poorly, the subtitles proved wonderous and I am quite grateful for this content that some would be willing to pay for.

I have tried to fully get Hegel for a while and I have been reading him and watching all kinds of vidoes explaining him, and nothing has come close to this. Mich persönlich interessieren die Grundlagen der Physik sehr, und Hegels Dialektik klingt im Vergleich dazu absolut revolutionär. Die Theorie unterscheidet sich quasi nicht von dem was wir heute (durch empirische Forschung) in der Physik als Urknallmodell verstehen! Wahnsinnig gute Erklärung. Vielen Dank dafür :)
Ein wahnsinnig klug, konstruktiv heruntergebrochenes Video. Abgesehen davon, dass sich mein NIchts als ein selbstwiderspruch darstellt (ich sage das in der Hoffnung, dass mir einer bei einer akademischen Erklrärung behilflich ist) bin ich begeistert von der noch einmal auf das Wesentliche heruntergebrochenen Herleitung von Vielem, wofür ich i meinen Erklärungen bestimmt 200 seinten gebraucht habe (ich weiß, wenn man alle anderen zusammen nimmt könnte das eigentlich ein guter schnitt sein, aber ich bin ja auch nicht Kant oder so). Anyway, danke!

Danke. Als an Philosophie interessierter Laie habe ich zum ersten Mal diesen Grundgedanken von Hegel verstanden. Natürlich nicht zur Gänze, aber dann wäre das Verständnis schließlich leer ;-)
Wenn man es weiter oder zurückspinnt, dann besagt dieser Ansatz, dass Raum und Materie usprünglich Eins waren (oder sind). Damit löst man allerdings nicht die Ursprungsfrage, weil es dieser Logik nach ja dann immer nochmal einen Gegenpart dazu geben muss, damit es überhaupt etwas geben kann. Man dreht sich im Kreis.

Wie können Sein und Nichts zwei verschiedene Dinge sein? Hier beginnt doch der Kategorienfehler! Denn auf der einen Seite haben wir das Sein als eine Entität, als eine einfache Unmittelbarkeit und Ihrer Definition dieses als Etwas, als ein Ausdruck einer Bedeutung. Auf der anderen Seite haben wir das Nichts, wiederum als eine Entität od. Monade und gleichzeitig stützt es sich aber auch das "Verneinen des Seins!" Also ist doch das Nichts auch gleich dem Sein in seiner Entität. Somit ist das Nichts auch ein Sein und im Prinzip versuchen wir hier etwas herzuleiten indem wir einen Kategorienfehler zulassen.
