    Hi Andy. Nice to have yourself and Charles on the net / group. A BIG well done for venturing out in such terrible weather. A much more relaxed chatty net this year and very much like old CB radio (without all the swearing and death threats). Its great that so many people still enjoy the peoples band. Long live CB. Look after yourself mate and keep the videos coming. 73's Fred.

Well done for acting as temporary chair, it was a good laugh and cool that a few others outside our normal crew popped in to say hello. Just watched your video😁👍🏼 keep up the good work mate. 73 for now.

      @@andykirby - Love hearing you guys and watching the video. There is a favorite place I go to set up on ham or whatever at a mountain top south of the city. Its so high there that its possible with 5 watts on VHF to work more than 100 miles north. On CB with 12 to 15 ssb it really goes. I can talk all the way to Detroit or Ontario at night from that mountain. Its a great spot for QRP contesting. My own cheat code for winning the local contest. On VHF when the band is up (temp inversions/tropo ducting/atmosphere reflections) that place is insane. Its was a real jam 20 years go when I would work from that mountain top. One of these days I am going to test out a 1500 watt transmitter I bought on around 100 mhz using a 25mm copper pipe jpole. FYI for the techies out there, the bigger the diameter of the pipe, the broader bandwidth and the more forgiving the antenna is. Also they handle a LOT OF POWER. There is still a jpole I made back in the 90's on top a radio stations tower as a backup antenna soldered up out of 60mm pipe and they drop the power on that antenna because it grossly outperforms the circular arrays they are supposed to use. Has an EIA connector soldered right to the jpole with a coax feed. Good job on this make shift station. Loved watching it. KF

    Nice one Andy, my cb days were AM from 1978-81 illegal days😂 DTI as it was then(now Ofcom) shut us down, a neighbour complained about me wiping out their TV, anyway they were nice about it and they told me to take up Amateur Radio instead which I did but yes miss them early days, it was fun and made a lot of friends. 7100 is a great radio asI have one myself, next time just put your coax round a 240-43 toroid at the pl259 end, you’ll find that’ll help with the swr. I have several of those ham sticks, they work well. Love your video’s chap keep them coming. 73👍

I remember feeling bad for him only scratching the surface of what that equipment could do. Sure he didn't stay within the 40 channels of CB. A 100 khz above and below the American CB band. Just a fraction of the frequencies available to HAM radio operators. To each their own, but now days with the no-code HAM licenses, just get the license. Nothing makes radio with a 300 yard range cool. The audio quality is horrific. I'm a former US deputy sheriff. My department used CBs and switched to modified Kenwood TM271s because the range was dramatically increased with 65w output. All agencies in my state switched to digital radio and left 154. All of the agencies in my county (6) use them. They use the abandoned channels used before going digital. It's the chit chat radio. The sound quality is fantastic when you attach a 3 inch corners rounded square extension speaker. Even better than the digital departmental hand held radio, the Motorola XTS.

      I think you find there is nothing illegal about using that radio on that frequency. That band has been regulated. The DTI are long gone and ofcom have no interest.

    If you're going to play CB radio then use a CB radio and not some expensive amateur radio.. Come on guys.. An old Stalker 9 and a little amp would have been more appropriate..

      I thought my Yasue and the 2kw solid state I have (which I have to run a generator to power) would be great for this purpose. Just look for the aurora and tesla coil sparks around my car. When your toaster elements are rattling to the sound of my voice, you know I got the tuning right LOL

    In the US using a ham radio to transmit on CB radio is illegal. One must use a type accepted radio. Such a radio has limited power and is frequency restricted.

      There is always a party pooper quoting rules and crapping on good fun. Unless you are making serious interference to health and safety or services that make money (commercial FM or Phone service) no one, including the govt cares a darn hoot about it. Promise. Let it go. Its over. You can do pretty much what you want as long as you are not pissing in someone elses garden or screwing up the money making parts of the spectrum or bothering the military... Go have fun. Trust me... No one cares.

    Hi Andy. Really happy to have stumbled across your channel. Some really informative videos. I used to have a CB radio in the mid 90s and mate just told me about the BAOFENG UV-5R III Tri-Band which I have just ordered. Can you tell me (sorry, I am such a noob!) if this can be used to listen and broadcast on the CB frequencies? Gonna be binge-watching all your videos. Thanks!

    • @KlodFather
      @KlodFather Год назад

      There is a mod that has to be performed on the radio. Either software change or move a surface mount resister from one pad to another in the radio. If you are not a good electronics tech, do not attempt it. You can ruin a radio doing the mod if you botch it. But the mod can be found online. Get someone proficient to do the mod for you. Be careful with that radio after the mod. It will transmit wherever it will tune... and there are bands and places you should not be and can get into a lot of shit. THe FCC or OFCOM are not your problem... Its the military, government, aviation, and public safety who will not put you in the jail... They will put you under the jail and weld the lid shut. Do your homework and due diligence before getting on the air... Good luck. And get your Amateur radio license as well. Its one hell of a hobby. And don't let the sad hams and the do-gooder belly-achers ruin your fun.

    This isn't CB radio sorry too say, it's someone using a amateur radio transmitter on the CB radio. and before someone spouts up that's it's all radio. I'm sorry it isn't. CB radio is when someone uses a CB only radio. I know people don't care anymore about the legality of using none type approved radio's like the wild west, these day's. But wasn't this the 42nd birthday of legal CB radio, just saying. So using a ICOM 7100 is firstly not a CB radio and secondly is illegal 😂😮😅 . Just saying 😂😂😂.and I'm a cber.

    • @KlodFather
      @KlodFather Год назад

      And this is relevant how exactly? The regulating authorities these days do not care. Those bands are dead space as far as they are concerned. Useless spectrum. If it does not make money or interfere with public safety, they have no interest.
