Roller skating cases is what we used back in the day . I ran a cobra 148 and a kraco stereo. Vice grip mount and a 4ft francis. Yes the ground is a problem with all the new trucks. You have a good modern set up

your idea isnt new but you have brought it into this century. i knew a trucker in the 70's who had a suitcase-looking thing that he called a console. inside was a cb, speaker and wire harnesses, and he would go from truck to truck like you. nice build on your part!

They’re by far the most common radio, likely ever sold. Means there’s lots of broken/abused ones and parts for repairs😊should the occasion call for it. You’re correct though, they’re super tough! Only issues I have ever had was with the nightwatch/lightup faces going out. I still continue to use them even then. Channel selector still lights up, signal meter still lights up, good to go. Face just isn’t as pretty at night.

I like your solution to a portable trucker setup brother. My buddy "White Wolf" is a trucker on the road 24/7 and he may love this. I think I need and move external meter like you put on my mobile setup. Thanks for the walkthrough.

I appreciate it! I went ahead and ordered the Tram 1499 antenna to go along with this kit and 75’ of coax. My plan at this point is to slide the antenna u bolts loosely over any broken antennas I may encounter. I also have the versatility to bring the slip seat box in the house and put the antenna somewhere it’ll work best as a base. Since the Tram is only a little over 3’ tall, I likely won’t be able to temporarily mount it on any back of the cab brackets/bars because my cab and trailer are in the way. That will likely inhibit my range. I’ll shoot another video when I have the efficiency of all this maximized. Thanks to all for the kind words!

@@burtc4240 Absolutely man. I'm interested to see how that tram 1499 gets out and the SWRs. I followed you so I'll wait for the follow-up video. I started posting some videos too. Mostly prepping but just one on CB. Ham videos soon to come.

Great job , back in the mid 80’s I built a box stained it too! I installed an am/fm cassette player with 2 speakers up top. A tuned and peaked Cobra 29 with an eagle 200 going into a 3’ fire stick with a wing nut mirror clamp! Worked great talked from the Gulf of Mexico all the way to New Jersey!
All the other drivers wanted to use it! 🤪
