We are.... been a little busy editing video.
The truth is that the imperium from one edge to another is 80 thousand light years. Considering the fact that the Milky Way is 100,000 light years and has about 400 billion planets and 250 billion stars, this means that we are talking only about over 1 million inhabited worlds. In fact, the Imperium occupies half of the galaxy.
And yeah imperium is not good and its not bad, its just humanity itself. There is a heroes who can sacrifice billions to save trillions, and there is a villains who feed homeless on the streets and then corrupting them in the name of the Dark Gods.

Just as an FYI, Warhammer 40k was born over 30 years ago as a table-top wargame, and the setting and lore have been continuously expanded the entire time since then. There's a lot to take in.

"Xeno" means "foreign" in Greek. It's a term used by the Imperium to denote alien species. As to the sword with "ridges", that is indeed a chainsaw sword.
True, that's why xenophobe means "fear of foreigners". I honestly don't know how people don't know this. In my country such things are taught in high school and aren't even it's own subject. They are just part history class.

It's a Universe - like Star Wars, but older, bigger and better.
Books,Comics, Tabletop games, Video Games, Movies.....contains everything.
It's our Galaxy in 41st millennium - 40 000 years in the future.
As to good/bad - what's unique about this Universe is that there is no such thing. Every race is fighting for survival and will do horrendous things to achieve it (Except Orcs - Orcs fight cause they enjoy it and that's the meaning of life for the,).
I guess the only really bad faction, would be the Chaos one (Chaos Gods).

@@cassu6 SW 1977, Warhammer 1983 - if we are talking about when the franchise's were started, but there was warhammer even before that as a sci-fi stories. What I meant though was the age through which not universes exist. Sorry didn't make it clear. Now I love SW - but Warhammer is just bigger and more developed, including 40k years of events.

@@DarkPretender205 Warhammer was made in the UK so it's market was small and made it unheard of for the bigging compared to star wars that was comcepted in the US so bigger market but sense getting in the US in the 1980s i think its popularity has exploded.

The 40k universe is grim and dark. How dark...? In Star Wars you see Aldaraan get blown up and maybe a few billion dying... Tragic...? Sure... But that does not even come close to the scale of 40k... That sort of thing happens in 40k on a DAILY basis... Death and destruction at GALACTIC scales... Millions upon millions dying on the HOUR, With millions upon millions more taking their place...
Exterminatus, although the video says "rare", it's rare just in relation to the scale... It would be utterly surprising if an exterminatus isn't enacted at least ONCE per day in some part of the universe... And for every exterminatus there are 2 or 3 other planets are there to take it's place... Make no mistake... That is JUST the imperium... The other races are also doing their own planet wide and solar system scale of destruction, upon the imperium and even among each other... Orks going on WAAAGHs that wreck planet after planet, Tyranids just devouring planet upon planet... Dark Eldar stripping WHOLE planets bare of inhabitants to be tortured, violated, and sacrificed to slaanesh... And Chaos with each god having their own rituals and horrors they inflict on populations... Or Tau either sterilizing populations or trying to convert them to the "Greater good"... Which is just another form of fascism that isn't really any better then the imperial cult... Doesn't even include the Necrons and Eldar here...
The golden throne itself sacrifices about a THOUSAND psykers a day to keep the Astronomicon functioning and this has been doing on for 10,000 years. The odds of a psyker being born in the population slips my mind but it was something like was one in a million... or one in one hundred million... Some absurd number. But, the black ships still keep on coming full of psykers to burn in the golden throne... Even with that, the imperium still has more than enough psykers to spare... to be used on the battlefield...

You guys should check out the Astartes series here on youtube. So far 3 very short parts have been released, and it is the closest anyone has gotten to showing off just how potent the space marines of the Adeptus Astartes are as described in the various books and comics. Be warned, it's brutal.

There are nice places in the Imperium too, we just don't normally see much of them unless something has gone wrong. A lovely beach planet that has known nothing but peace and stable democracy for 5000 years would be nice to live on, but it isn't really a thrilling place to set a war drama unless it's being invaded.
Warhammer 40k is a tabletop game with miniatures that started in the 80's, and its Lore and background as been developped on the span of the last 39 years, so it is extensive and HUGE.
The tabletop game is at its 8th version of the rules as of now.
But more then just the tabletop game, there's Tons of Novels( edited by Black Library, the most well knowed is the Horus Heresy) Comics, and also video games, one of the most well knowed be the Dawn of War franchise, and the Space Marine game on PS3/Xbox 360/PC.
But in the 90's there allready was some games about 40k, most of the times they where RTS games, since its the closest to the tabletop game, like Chaos Gates etc.
The 40k Verse is Huge, there's more then a dozen of races that players can incarnate in the tabletop game, and each races has an extensive Lore; Feral Orkz, Ancient Eldars and Dark Eldars, the Expansionist T'aus, the Cruel and Cold Necrons, the Nightmarish forces of Chaos( Demons, Cultists, Mutants and Renegade Space Marines), and all of the forces of the Imperium( Space Marines, Battle Sisters, Inquisition, Imperial Guards, Titans etc)

Warhammer 40k has been around since the 80's. Started as a tabletop battle game and has expanded over the years to books, video games and even a (not very good) movie. The fan stuff so far has been much better as far as videos go. Def. Check out Helsreach fan series. Its a story based on a single world/system and has been made by a chap called Richard Boylan. He has now been hired by the creators of this universe, Games Workshop, to make a proper series for them. That should show how good it is. Other videos to check out would be "Guardsman", "The Lord Inquisitor" prologue, and "Astartes". The lore is extremely far reaching and deep and it is pretty much impossible to know everything about it now. The main focus remains the tabletop game at present and thats where/why the lore is developed.

This is the background to games workshop 40k sci fi table top miniatures game, which has expanded over the last 35 years or so. It has got so big that they have their own books, video games, magazines etc.
There are around 462 books about 30k and 40k stories but that is including all the audio dramas, short stories, anthologies, some of the new stories.
Only 462? Nah.
Oddly, the Golden Throne failing is both a incredible blessing and a horrifying curse. For a time, the Astronomicon would fade and you'd lose the concept of navigation.. but when one light goes out, another light as bright as a star comes forth.. as now the Emperor of Man can be reborn again to continue his over 45,000 year old existence on this planet.
warhammer 40k is a board game like chess. there are 9 editions of it, 450 plus monthly magazines called white dwarf, 100 plus codex's, and 20 odd encyclopedias and around 1000 novels that help to give it context as well as 100 computer games and untold fan content.

Templin institute here has a good overview, but this overview only scratches the surface. If anyone is interested, check out Arch Warhammer. He goes very deep into the 40k lore.

Just to add a few things, space marines also age slower... purer geneseed, so first or second generation marines, have an unknown lifespan. The oldest ever found was insane because he was left alone, but that Salamander could recall walking side by side with his Primarch... over 10,000 years ago. The current head of the Blood Angels, Lord Commander Dante is over 6000 years old and still flying around with his jetpack. The colossal dreadnought Bjorn the Fell-Handed is still a body in a tomb but when he is awake he can remember training with Primarch Leman Russ over 10,000 years ago. Yet still, some of the Chaos Marines are slightly older, perhaps by as little as a few decades.. Like Abaddon the Despoiler, who ran in gangs with Horus and has been around since the first creation of his Chapter... a little over 10,000 years ago. That said, by pure age, the oldest might be hidden in the Grey Knights, as some of the older members inside that chapter could be north of 11,000 years old.
The Imperium is good simply because the alternative is destruction, slavery (to non-humans) or worse. Luetin09 has good lore videos, but he's extremely thorough which makes for long videos, especially since his desire for thoroughness sometimes takes him on long tangents.

Warhammer 40K was originally a table top war game. Think army men and toy tanks with specific rules on what each unit can do. However, instead of real world factions, you have the made up factions. Each player is the general commanding the battle.
That is why the focus is war.
Over the 3 or 4 decades since warhammer 40K was created, the lore has built up little by little becoming the millions of pages (ar least) of lore that exist now.
If you're looking for something in the same universe, but a little more light-hearted, I'd recommend the "If the Emperor had a Text-to-Speech Device" series. It's a really well put together series, if a little slow to start, but it's relatively easy to follow without a huge amount of lore knowledge.

Is the Emperium Good? to quote a meme i saw "We dont do that here". There is no "Good" side in Warhammer 40K, just different degrees of bad, hence the term "Grim-Dark". There are moments of light and good, but in a future where there is only war, they are far and in-between. Xenos refers to races that are not human, the predominant races featured are Orks, Eldar/Dark Eldar, T'ao, Necrons, Tyranids, then you have Chaos and Daemons that reside in the Warp and the Eye of Terror. 40k has a TON of lore, it is a proverbial rabbit hole, and there are a lot of RUclips channels out there that explore that lore. it can be very intimidating to get into, but if you are interested there are many "rabbits" out there to show you how deep that rabbit hole can go.

I highly recommend checking out "FOR THE EMPEROR | Warhammer 40k: Space Marine" by TheRussianBadger. I promise you will have a great time out of it.
I think like a lot of appeal for Warhammer lore is it's really gritty/dark fantasy. Like GoT the "good guy" if there even is one doesn't always win. Things are fed up and everyone is trying to screw everyone.

A combination of things. New warhammer games of real good quality, Games Workshop into making introduction to the hobby easier, and a flood of disillusioned Star Wars fans looking for a new series to scratch that space fantasy itch.

@@mariobnicole8669 Just that you should keep watching Helsreach from episode 3 onwards, since you've seen the first two. It's a great series and the finale is just about to be released. And if you want to know more about the lore of Warhammer 40K, then you might want to check out "If The Emperor Had a Text-To-Speech device" by Bruva Alphabusa. It's a comedic warhammer fan series that goes through a lot of the lore and explains it and is just generally funny as hell.
Check out Astartes. 3 short videsos (2 mins each roughly) should give u good take on them.

Well, generally, there is no such thing as a "good" faction, in Warhammer 40k. Just because its humans, doesnt make them "good"^^
I highly recommend, if you´re interested in some of the lore, watching the videos of Arch Warhammer. The guy does a GREAT job explaining factions, equipment, and even walking through complete series of books in a very approachable way.

Haha haha in fairness warhammer 40k books have taught me 32 new words. It is baffling that people don’t want to find out the meaning of words instead they equate the new with what they already “know”.

This all was created to give lore and purpose to lead soldiers, now in plastic. The rest is just a spin-off.
To explain exactly what 40k is. This is all lore and information detailing the universe surrounding a Tabletop wargame(A game in which players build models to create an army and fight other people's armies using dice rolls to determine hits, misses, and movement, etc.) That said, it's a rather old Property and has adapted into countless books, Many video games, and the occasional animation. It's also got several Tabletop Rpg's (think dungeons and dragons, but very dissimilar mechanics-wise).
You should check out orks, they're both very dangerous, and the comic relief in a universe that sometimes lacks a bit of comedy.

I was thinking the lore of Halo and Warcraft was BIG.

Hundrets (or even thousands) of books, boardgame (from wich it originated), electronic games - quite popular today. Card games.... It is as much "book series", as is 24/7 teleshoping TV channell kinda advertisment segment. It is extremely hard to sqeeeze the story down into 20 minutes. And something do not get through. Like the word "xeno/s" means "alien/s" - different species, at least partially sentient. Another point wich could not be obvious for newcommers and wich was not plainly stated - even in "peacefull areas" (worlds, systems, etc.), the human usually have to fight the local environment (fauna, flora, atmospheric preasure, various poisons, temperature differences, and many more mortal threats), live in extremely harsh society, where even when inquisition (wich can order extermainatus -murder of planet for a single warp-creature/xenotech/xenoorganism-possesed person - if deemed too dangerous, or even innocent planet if it is strategicaly suitable for bigger plan) is NOT active in your area, you have to deal with
1)local superstition PLUS imperial faith/creed.
2) police-force wich makes the judges from Judge Dread look like a pussyfest.
3) So called "psykers" wich are more developed human with psychic abilities of various degree, whose usually do "flag" them for extraction by secret recruitment service and in the same time target for any deamonic warp entity strong enough to possess said poor person.
4) extremely slow trials and burocracy. - you can sue someone, or ask for premession for a bussiniess, and it will be your grandchildern who will get the answer - if you do not leave the waiting line in front of the court or local magistrate.
5) environment for work and life are terrible. If you are lucky, you work 12 hour shift with 2 warm meals and share a bunk + workstation with some poor lad wich sleeps there when you work.If you are NOT lucky, you have to hunt rats in sewers for sustenance in some places. Of course, you can be extralucky and be born as highborn - offspring of some trader house, but the higher the possition, the fiercer and more tangled the fight for power and gaining upper hand even in our, kinda peacefull society.
Those and many more reasons are why even in "peacefull areas" of space, where by some miracle do not burn the war, or warp mandess, people have to be as mentaly, physicaly and technologicaly strong as possibly can be simply to survive. And THAT is what is ment by "Ther is only WAR".

There is just too much lore in it. Nobody outside can follow it all. Even I (a person familiar with 40k for 15 years) dont know every story, every part of lore, every information. There is just too much of it, and its keep going.
And it should keep going! I can't get enough of it.
