You both have great numbers. The only reason you have a couple that flagged high is that those are based on incorrect information. I once had cholesterol so high it was off the charts & my PCP wanted me on statins. At the same time, my insurance company looked at the break down, asked me how I got such great numbers/ratios & gave me a discount! Lol I have a new PCP now…

Great point! I would think that insurance companies are only looking at caclulated risks and as long as your ratios are excellent for TG and HDL and your blood sugar is great, it still puts you in an low risk for CVD even on a standard calculations.

So before I started this diet my lab work numbers were spot on perfect. But I felt awful! I went on keto, started to feel amazing, I was like a different person! But my labs, the LDL went up and my doctor wanted me to go on a statin. I said nope. My HDL, triglycerides, and fasting blood sugar are all fine!

Back in the day, when I talked my husband into doing the Atkins diet with me,his triglycerides were over 560. After a period of time of him being on Atkins we rechecked his labs, his triglycerides had gone down to like 130,it was pretty profound. Needless to say we didn’t continue on,life can derail you. We started keto November 1,his starting glucose reading was around 200,it’s taking a good three weeks however his glucose is running around 111 or lower and this is with him stopping his medication, his choice he’s been trying to pin down what medication is making him feel bad. He has stopped the statin also,he continues to take his thyroid. He feels better,he is scheduled for lab work in December,so that will be the tell all,so to speak. His VA doctor will either be pleased or blow up the phone. If his cholesterol and triglycerides are elevated, more medication,I am sure and depending on what his A1C shows is going to interesting. VA doctors love to order tests,so we will see. I worked in a lab for over 20 years, there’s a lot I can say,to keep this from being a novel,I will say this. All labs are different, protocols are different,it makes a difference in how the specimens are handled and sometimes there is a mishandling of specimens (take that how you want) so that being said,it’s always good to have a base line for comparison. I am optimistic, his type 2 diabetes is more concerning than his cholesterol, the medication is horrible. Thanks for sharing your journey and how y’all appreciate Vets.

What great results! That HDL number afterwards was very impressive Rachael - wowsers!
I did my due diligence before I started keto and was satisfied that cholesterol was not a risk factor of CVD. Considering 50% of people who die of a heart attack have low cholesterol, you pretty much have a 50/50 chance of mortality regardless of your numbers. It's just logic.
I do annual blood work and my numbers have followed the same pattern as yours. I'm very happy with my Triglyceride:HDL ratio.
I started keto to get rid of my gout. At 45 I was too young to have any form of arthritis, especially in my hands! Not only did my gout pain disappear but my joint crystals also dissolved over the course of a year. I'm one happy crafter! 2 years on and I don't see any downsides to this way of eating, literally none.
I would luv to see a video on all your health benefits, especially after 4 years and all the challenges you've done. I mean, who cares about your weight? Seriously. You guys are a picture of health.

I’ve seen charts that show 75% of people admitted with heart attacks have “normal” LDL. They didn’t have the percentage of them taking statins to lower LDL. But likely they either lowered their LDL by taking statins (which evidently did nothing for them to reduce the risk of a heart attack) or had diets that keep LDL low (in which case TG and HDL will be outside of healthy ranges).

Plenty of doctors out there taking about high insulin being the biggest factor in CVD.
Something about insulin causing the tiny "hairs" on the endothelial cells to become stiff and break off. Never getting a chance to recover since the insulin is never lowered. The break causes cholesterol to accumulate since it is the body's repair mechanism. cholesterol accumulates and that is what led doctors to think cholesterol was the cause when the real cause was high insulin over a period of time.

@@sunflowers6172 my cardiologist said the same thing but PCP has not been concerned. My total cholesterol 257, Triglycerides 101, HDL 99, LDL 138, VLDL 20, fasting glucose 86. After what cardiologist said I began researching how to lower LDL. Boy, did I fall down the rabbit hole! I discovered Ken Berry, Jason Fung, David Diamond, KKs, Feldman - and MORE! I won’t do meds. Period. Statins gave my husband neuropathy in his feet. So his doc moved him to a different statin with fewer side effects. He developed chronic episodes of diarrhea. It was getting to the point where it might be risky to leave the house! When he quit the second statin his GI issues cleared up. My biggest reason I will never take statins is that when my daughter got pregnant with her first child I told her she and her husband must get life insurance right away. Her husband was issued right away but they almost didn’t issue hers because her LDL was sky high. Further research revealed they NEVER test cholesterol on pregnant women as it is always sky high, they are building a baby after all. As Jason Fung would say “our bodies aren’t stupid”. So that means someone else might be stupid. If all other biomarkers improve, but LDL goes up, perhaps that is also an improvement.

Great results! I had mine done, using your link and this was the first time I have ever had my Insulin, C-Peptides, and particle size checked. I have no base line, well actually I do now for these. I don't know if they have improved or if they have gotten worse over time. But my LDL, HDL and A1c have basically stayed the same since last year and they were good then. So I want to keep doing what changes I am doing and go back in six months and have blood work done again. I do know NSV, that I am still losing inches even though the scale hasn't moved, but I started out heavier than Joe when I started this journey. And yes, I am still alive! I don't think I would have been if I hadn't adopted the keto/low carb/carnivore lifestyle.

But after further investigation, I think I am ok. I am 1-1/2 yrs into keto, clean keto. My important numbers are good.. triglicerides low, hdl high, glucose coming down. My first A1C was 5.4, a bit higher than I thought and am continuing to stay the course and try different challenges. I bet I was in worse pre-diabetic health than I knew about. This is fun! the other test I would look into is the Heart Calcification Score (CAC Score) - Ivor Cummins talks about this in his youtube channel and would be at the Keto conferences in the USA usually specifically for Rachel with her family history - 0 is perfect and you go up from there - the key is over time that by following Keto that your CAC score does not go up - also watch the Movie he was involved in "The Willow Maker" free on youtube that talks about the CAC score indebt

    • @cutabove9046
      @cutabove9046 3 года назад +3

The CAC will show calcified plaque only. Most men don't even start to calcify plaque until at age 45/50 and women not until after the "change". The true indicator of heart and artery health is the CT Angiogram. It's a scan similar to the CAC but shows total plaque burden which includes calcified and uncalcified plaque as well as where those blockage are and what percentage of a particular artery is blocked. The only problem is that it is much more expensive than the CAC. You can find CAC tests for $75/150 dollars, while a CT Angiogram runs from $450/1200. But, you know for sure whether your diet is killing you or not.

Thank you for sharing your results and the lab test combo link! This is very helpful. I just ordered this lab test.
I am due for my physical and afraid to do my labs that my doctor normally orders which doesn’t include A1C and insulin. My numbers are not usually as impressive as yours on TG and HDL (however good and reflective of my keto/low carb diet). My doctor is already used to my high LDL and not overly concerned since seeing my low TG and improving HDL compared to before. At least she is not pushing me to take statins and recommends to take Ca test. (I think she supports that LDL means nothing for CVD risks when HDL, TG and glucose are great, but doesn’t admit it). However, my fasting glucose is on a rise past year. So if I show fasting glucose higher than 100, I really don’t want to have that conversation with her without having A1C and insulin numbers to back me up.
So thank you! I tried researching my other local labs for taking all these tests, and did arrive at a higher price when selecting available packages.

The curious thing is, I discovered at about age 12, reading my first Bible, that the way to riches is to give. I never chased money. Rather, I have lived my life (since I was 12 -- now 74) based on Luke 6:38. That said, I have lived debt free since and well before I retired at 61. I am in want of nothing and live (alone*) like a king on social security.

See how that shakes out? I have prepared my house to feed a family of 4 quite well for probably 2 years. Why?
Well, besides it being "what I do" (give), I expect to leave this rock in the rapture, but for others (family of 4, perhaps?) Who don't get the good news in time, a safe harbor, stocked with amenities.
"I" eat only meat, salt and water once daily. ALL the rest is for some unknown folks. I hope they like smoked beef jerky. I make a quart and a half daily, vacuum seal it in Mason jars and store it.
So, my point is, love, caring and nurture of complete unknowns is the exact opposite of love of money.
      Try it. It's contagious!

Looks like great results. Way to go! If you guys end up going back to "regular" keto, I recently found the most amazing keto chow ice cream flavor ever that you really need to try. I use the salted caramel keto chow made with heavy cream but I replace about 2/3 of the water with cold brew coffee. Then at the end I mix in crushed almonds. What you get is one of the best mocha almond fudge ice creams ever, keto or otherwise. No idea where the hint of chocolate flavor comes from but it's definitely there somehow and it's amazing.

C reactive protein is super important. After I had a brain aneurysm pop, it took a week for them to figure out that’s what happened, my c reactive protein was 85, and that is what almost killed me. Inflammation is no joke!

Good to see, my cholesterol is always higher than your numbers I figure it runs in our family, and of course the doctor always wants to put me on statins, but I refuse because even being on the sholeserol meds my cholesterol never budged, they say oh, but the meds will it keep it from clogging your arteries and sticking. but I was not interested in the cost. Very encouraging your transformation pics congratulations! Thanks for sharing.

I felt like I was developing Alzheimer’s. My family, moms side, every person suffered it. Parents, 7 children. All of them. I’m 69, we’ll on my way. Filled with inflammation. Type 2 diabetic. 5 days in to bbbe, I am back to sharp as a tack. At least I can say with confidence I’m moving in the right direction. Stenosis too. Stopped bothering me. Last night following dinner, I tested my glucose. At 92, I took diabetes meds out of my night time pills. I’m only five days in. I’ll continue testing before I throw pills out. I’m focused on this and realize I didn’t get so unhealthy in a moment and I won’t get back in one week. I have 70 lbs to lose. I’m sure that in 6 months I look very different. I just want to live.

One thing I noticed is no sunburn. My theory is that the redness from sunburn is inflammation and on BBB &E there is very very low inflammation, therefore no redness. I have seen other carnivores mention this.

I went keto Jan 2, 2017. Hit goal by June 2019. Gained 40 beginning Nov 2019. Sadly I can’t blame my gain on the rona. Second time around is tough. My dedication has been waxing and waning. I now have lost 12 pounds these last 2 months. Your videos have been helping me. You give me support just by your videos. Thank you.

Great numbers. Very insulin sensitive. Both your livers and fat are no doubt very happy. Keep it up, I have been keto for 24 years. It saved my future from from T2D diagnosed in 1998 at age 40. I am not naturally insulin sensitive like you guys appear to be.
May want to check adiponectin to confirm your fat is healthy.
    Also vitamin D and homocystene.
A decent primary care doctor will work with you on this.

I've been interested in keto and carnivore diets, so I have been watching a lot of videos to learn more about both. It seems no one talks about cholesterol; they will say things like 'my numbers are good' but not mention exactly what numbers. Then I happened upon this video and those numbers are scary to me. I guess I will do more research. Thanks for the video.

I started keto when the fraud began, since I had a lot of time. Your stats are different than in Canada, hard to be sure what they are😊
I started BBBE Jan 7, Dr Berry's 90 day challenge. I developed a rash a few days, which has gone, everything I eat is from the same sources. And hygiene is the same.

I respect your keeping it real w/ the underwear shots! On LCHF, BBB&E etc, the 2 things, IMO, that matter:
    1) Blood lipids - your trigs/HDL ratios are fantastic
    2) Nutrition - are you eating what your bodies are evolved to process - REAL foods? Yes you are. In other words, little to none of the 3 prime ingredients of fake/processed foods - sugars, bottled oils, grains/flours. BBB&E are all real so your bodies handle that no prob. Fake/processed on the other hand: joint pain, diabetes, obesity, fatty liver, CHD, dementia, cancers, .......
