      I think it's more those of us who watch these videos, but have completely different experiences with the same versions. Highway trips? Maybe it can mostly do those. Around town, the super dangerous and illegal moves just kept accumulating, in utterly routine situations. People judge what they see in real life, over what they watch on RUclips.

      Speaking as part of the 'rest of the world', here in Australia I paid for FSD five years ago, still have nothing and have just discovered HW3 has reached its limits, 12.5 can't run on it and they are not going to upgrade the hardware.

    The hardest part right now seems to be the final leg of the drive, where it reaches the destination, but can't find where exactly to stop, especially in parking lots. Reverse is going to literally add a whole new dimension to FSD. Can't wait to see those videos.

    • @edhill8568
      @edhill8568 2 месяца назад +1

      One tip that helps finish the final leg is to pinch into the destination on the map and place where you want to park when you zoom in. It works pretty well in a large parking lot but doesn't help with driveways.

    In my experience of your channel, of the videos I've watched this one ticks all the boxes for me in terms of what an FSD video should be like. The "If I was driving I would have ..." are so much more toned down, you didn't interfere with the car's decision making when "stuck". Your commentary was on point.
    I know this is my 3rd comment but really, well done!

  • @thegroggers

    Been watching videos from multiple you tube channels for years, and this is the first time I've seen fsd make decisions on a consistent basis that implies it now understands what it's doing and is not merely mindless trained algorithms - I know that's what it is, but the point is there's complex behaviour that reflects sophisticated comprehension, and it's significant.

The difference is night and day. 12.5 and I are getting to know each other so todays drive was even better than yesterday. There have been a few critical disengagements but I can attribute the majority to the unpredictability of humans. Great update!

    I just got 12.5 and starting from a parking spot at work, it did appear to be stuck, I needed to goose it with accelerator. Otherwise it was better than 12.3.6 on smoothness on acceleration and breaking. At the stops it seemed impatient, with slight jolts forward while stopped. I was surprised to see it park on its own when it got to the office supply store. It did just fine. I've only been diving my new model Y for a few weeks while using the complementary FSDS, but I was impressed by the improvements in 12.5. And as far as I know, Tesla has not gone out of their way to fix problems with my drives because I have not reported the problems I've encountered with 12.3.6.

      @andrasbiro3007 2 месяца назад

      It was definitely not confident in that last intersection. And it seemed like seriously wrong map data, because it never did anything like that before.
      And the miles between disengagements isn't relevant here, because this was a stress test. If you are not messing with it then it can drive hundreds of miles safely, if not thousands.

    very interesting. What I'll say is that blowing through a red light is better than doing something crazy that puts other cars in danger. 20:45 funky intersection and funky ped xing red lights behind it. Wonder if it would know how to handle that, I guess it would just react to people more than the lights, maybe.
    21:48 when hairy met sully pants :) slightly sketch. And quite interesting it gave up the second time which must mean it has local memory aka bad memories. Maybe they drop a disengagement digest on the map that disturbs its normal behavior. It doesn't understand what it did wrong but remembers that it was wrong. And the penalty on its behavior got it into a novel situation prompting other problematic actions. Interesting. Good tests.

    I received FSD 12.5 on July 23rd and still has speed limits errors from 25 mph city street to 40 mph highway without a sign stays at 25 mph. Noticed a regression (speeding up instead of slowing down with approaching traffic from behind) when merging from a U-Turn on a highway to cross two lanes of high-speed traffic to take an exit on the right about 1K feet away. Takes too long to reach or reduce speed after encountering speed limit signs.

    At 17:10 the car REALLY wants to switch to reverse to do a 3 point turn. The planner projects out behind the car before it inches forward, so it’s like the car doesn’t realize it was blocked from switching to reverse and tried to accelerate backwards only to be confused. It also explains a little bit of interesting map routing choices if it is now taking turning around into consideration

    Always great to see Ypsilanti! Tesla might be tweaking for 'Influencers' but it can't be that much. I've driven FSD all over the U.S., use it daily for four years. It works pretty much the same everywhere.
    It's not doing phony improvements. FSD has steadily improved, but so long as we have to pay full attention, we are going to at first be wowed by the improvements, but then quickly get used to them.... then get back to being annoyed by the things that still need to be improved. When we can finally turn it on and take a nap, like a good Uber driver, so long as it's safe, we'll stop nitpicking. (If I can nap or do something else, then I won't mind my trip takes a bit longer, or that my Tesla just changed to a slower lane.)
    The features and fixes I'd like to see are:
    1. Auto park at the Supercharger. It's not a big deal, but it should've been done a long time ago.
    2. Make the maps better, more street names, remember my last inputs. In my driveway I'll enter 'Home Depot', then wait, wait... it drops it and doesn't remember what I'd just entered. Often I have to enter an address or location three times, one letter at a time....
    3. Upgrades for old computers. My Tesla Model Y is 2020. Some on screen functions have slowed to a crawl. I keep checking to see if I still have the monthly fee features. (Yep) Yet repeatedly I get, "Calculating ... without traffic information." Often I go to Google Maps.
    4. Scolds. Enough already! Hire a psychologist, an efficiency expert. Number one cause of Scolds? having to fuss with the anti-intuitive screen, terrible map. I try to see my over all route and nothing ...nothing... nothing... now it starts to appear... but snap! I'm back see a single straight line for the next few miles. Have to do it all over again..... Scold! Also when I have to change a couple of lanes quickly because of traffic and needing to cross four lanes in the next mile? Don't start blaring at me while I'm processing my blind spots in the mirrors, making sure it's safe. It's cognitive overload at the wrong moment.
    5. Road hazards. It's too long. FSD didn't even budge when there was a big black rock in the road. Took out the tire and wheel. Yeah, it's on me, but seriously. See something, anything, safe to move over? Move over. If it's safe, I will veer for flying plastic bags, out of habit to keep them from hot gluing to the catalytic converter. Better a dozen phantom brakings than a $1200 wheel and tire replacement.
    6. Driver 'programming.' Shouldn't we be able to 'teach' our Teslas to "Stay out of the right lane on this street next to the parked cars near my home." It's far safer to be in lane one where no one is going to open a door. Maybe just a button. In this location, so long as it's safe, do this:" and then we drive in the lane we think is better.
    7. Speed trap locations. I got dinged in a crummy small municipality in Maryland. The only reason I was there was to use the Supercharger. I got dinged for 31mph in a 25 zone, no cars or people anywhere. Road engineered for >40. Camera ticket. Nothing but a corrupt shakedown. Welcome to Maryland! This should be in the software like Red for traffic. Speed settings should automatically drop to the speed limit with a warning on the screen. I'd rather slow down where a speed trap used to be, or only occasionally is, then get dinged. Or avoid that mall and any part of that town completely.
    (I'd put some of this on Tesla Ideas, but I'll bet they're already there. When I get their emails they're usually about the 'idea' of a moderator to delete the second most common 'idea': generating power while driving .... These violate the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics and the 1st law of don't be annoying. Which I'm probably being. )

    Chris, a question: When you engage FSD, a notification pops up on the screen that say, in part, "Keep hands on the wheel". This is not an oversight on Tesla's part... FSD v12.x is still Level 2, and NHTSA wants that notification to appear, which means this version isn't "hands free". Sure, the steering wheel nag is gone because FSD can now see your eyes, but shouldn't all safety drivers keep their hands loosely on the wheel? After all, FSD is asking you to do this. Thanks!

    Weird that it sometimes realizes it needs to pull off the road to park at the destination. I have yet to experience this with any version of FSD, including 12.5. 12.5 has missed destinations if anything, in spite of the location being on the right, it just hangs out in the leftmost lane and doesn't bother trying to get to the right lane to get to the destination.

    Excellent test case anyway, and the FSD team must be glad for this kind of data (even easier for them to find since you tagged it with a voice report).

    Having the chance to drive fsd 12.4 I would like you to have a camera facing the pedals as well as the forward looking camera. Talking from experience. The car suffers from getting the speeds wrong, to not accelerating in times needed to merge.
    Now from my perspective every time you use your foot to slow down ( rarely) or accelerate ( often) that's an intervention where you had to make a judgment call.
    So I would love to see with full transparency how often you are still " driving " the car.

    • @thorns17
      @thorns17 2 месяца назад

      Furthur more, I am also painfully aware of how poorly the car does in high density traffic, especially when switch lanes and merges. And God forbid it takes to long to merge, it will miss the onramp or other blunders. You talk about stress testing it. The do it in traffic time of getting off and on highways. Should be easy right😅

    At 14:10, there are tons of people complain "FSD is not for me" because it's driving at speed limit, and there are also people who complain "FSD is not for me" because it's speed too much over speed limit. Everyone has their references and the double standards are hard.

    11:05 you just need well defined yield rules that do not require you to stop. For example, traffic from the right has right of way. In the US the stop signs are treated a bit like that, but rather the first has right of way.

    Dirty, I mean, Chris, the 12.5 feels way cool, but I found some odd regressions (non-critical though) that are even beyond 12.3.6. Basically, stopping on L-shaped roads, blinkers, fantom breaking. Weird stuff, but overall it seems more natural and a bit faster on some intersections. Hope then 12.5.x will bring some long overdue options.

    In the past you have expressed doubts as to whether FSD will ever be truly L5 RT ready. Do you still feel that way or do you now foresee a time you could put a blind person in the car and have it take them to a destination? Also, do you expect that when 12.5 is optimized for HW3 it should perform the same?

    I like your drives with FSD. It gives me a better understanding of improvement from the previous version. I try to keep track of different scenarios, most interesting things are not been tested by early testers yet.
    My opinion of FSD 12.5 shows readiness, on a scale from 1 to 10: 1 - Not working, 3 - Working, not useful, 5 - Good, 9 - Like human, 10 - Better than human.
    7 - Highway: Performs well, but not perfect(FSD11).
    5 - Exit from Highway: Adequate, but requires more refinement, miss exist or change lane too late(FSD11).
    7 - Change Lane: Generally effective, but occasional issues.
    8 - Intersection: Handles most scenarios smoothly.
    8 - Roundabouts: Navigate effectively, though not flawlessly.
    4 - Parking Lots: Functional but can struggle with complexity.
    3 - Parking on the Street: Needs better spot finding to avoid blocking traffic.
    6 - Reverse Parking: Decent, but not consistently reliable.
    2 - Gate: Needs significant improvement for reliability.
    7 - Signal to Other Cars: Generally good, but improvements are needed.
    7 - Left Turn: Handles most left turns well.
    4 - Unprotected Turns: Often cautious or hesitant.
    5 - Speed Bumps: Recognizes and slows down appropriately.
    3 - Constructions on Road: Needs better detection and navigation.
    4 - Road Blocks: Struggles to handle unexpected obstacles.
    5 - Rain: Performs adequately, but not in heavy rain.
    3 - Snow: Limited capability in snowy conditions.
    5 - Fog: Manages light fog, and struggles with heavy fog.
    4 - Other Cars Breaking Rules: Handles some scenarios, but not all.
    7 - Pedestrians: Good at detecting and reacting.
    5 - Other Road Vehicles: Adequate, but can be improved.
    6 - Traffic Lights: Generally accurate, occasional misreads.
    7 - Driving Smoothness: Mostly smooth, with minor jerkiness at times.
    6 - Speed Limits: Adheres well, but sometimes slow to adjust.
    3 - Emergency Vehicles: Not recognized can be improved.
    5 - Supervision: Nice that no hands on the wheel are required.
    1 - Front Parking: Major improvements are needed.
    1 - Reverse in Street: Significant challenges remain.
    1 - Actual Smart Summon(ASS):
    1 - Self-park(Banish):
    My assessment is, of course, open for discussion, but this is my opinion based on the videos that have been published so far. If there haven't been any new updates, I base this on earlier versions. I assume my opinion may change in the future, but right now, I don't see any area where FSD is as good as or better than a human driver, even though it can sometimes surpass humans in certain scenarios.

    • @StefanoFinocchiaro
      @StefanoFinocchiaro 2 месяца назад

      There are many scenario when it's already much better than a human, like when a human drive under influence or when a human is distracted by phone or other things

    • @annawilson4571
      @annawilson4571 2 месяца назад +1

      @@StefanoFinocchiaro Don't get me wrong, I think FSD, especially version 12.5, is fantastic. However, it still makes silly mistakes in almost every situation. Although these mistakes are becoming less frequent, they still occur more often than with human drivers. For this reason, I still rate it below human drivers in all aspects. I really hope that, for example, supervision won't be needed on highways, demonstrating that it is consistently better than human drivers.

    This isn’t really a question of “influencer” only updates BUT / what about the fact that the “fleet” has another dimension which isn’t talked about enough… “Branch” versions seem to vary broadly AND each Branch variation has a difference in capabilities which isn’t made clear by Tesla. As an owner of a MYP, it’s becoming more and more clear that Tesla is purposely masking the differences between Branches. (Or at least not being upfront about this). Ex: my car was one of the thousands “stuck” on branch 8.x and wasn’t getting FSD updates for months behind what seems like every Influencer was presenting and even Analysts were talking about as “generally available”

  • @jamaicantesladriver
    @jamaicantesladriver 2 месяца назад +1

    I do not think they are purposely doing anything for influencers because my FSD on my newest Tesla is doing as good as the videos. What could be happening is they have videos also to review so they can actually target problems and I think they should if possible and hopefully use that to hopefully figure out how to solve other similar problems that they don't have video for. But, maybe we need more videos because I will say that for 6 years I have had issues in the exact same spot on that has been around since version 10 and is still there today. I have considered making videos of it but every time i think about it I am in the middle of something else and forget😅. As far as what they do for Elon...I mean he's the boss, so if it is possible to make his work better I'd do it 😅

    i still think you need to switch the graph to interactions per mile (or per 100miles). The current graph is super misleading.
    Your current trip had 0 interactions so it should be 19/0 = infinite. But you can't graph that so you just put 19/1 = 19..... which makes it look like it performed worse than the 3 trips before it ..... even though you had 0 interactions. Also, if you just set 0 to 1 like that you can no longer tell the difference between 0 and 1.

    Best video to date for this new FSD release. Loved the, 'Influencer' comment, but if you quack like a duck and drive like a duck, one might be a Influencer.... and you can bet that the FSD team is watching your drives. The question is, are they using your drives to improve FSD for everyone, answer is most likely YES. Now, I still see horrible speed consistency and PD tickets will be issued for 10+ over, especially in 25 mph posted speed zones, school zones, construction areas, end of story! Handling jerky highway speed off ramps and staying in merge lanes till the end when cars are present are a D- score IMHO (would loves to see a separate video devoted to these)... Again, glad you tested FSD 12.x in a new city. IMHO FSD 15.x in 2026 may be the release that has a capable/trustworthy 'Robotaxi' release!

    I’m still having issues with FSD 12.5 where the speed doesn’t go up to the speed limit, even when the MAX is set to +5 or more over. Even after waiting a long time, I’ll have to manually accelerate to the wanted speed. It will hold it there and then it will eventually slow down. I don’t think I had this issue with 12.3.6.
