  • Number three. I will be making an EP release announcement soon, and all five tracks will be available for download on bandcamp hopefully next week. RUclips uploads will still lag behind soundcloud and bandcamp. For some odd reason I feel youtube kills the overall 'loudness' of the track and crushes the dynamics. The full EP will be made available for download on bandcamp on April 22.

      Thanks so much! I've got a couple symphonic metal tracks in the works. Problem is they take much more time to write, record, and process. A 20 minute track is a tall order, but I will keep it in mind.

    your tracks have no dynamic range

    • @FrozenRaine
      @FrozenRaine  7 лет назад

      RUclips automatically normalizes the video volume especially on high-dynamic range tracks. My soundcloud upload of the track has its range intact for reference.

    • @techguy348
      @techguy348 7 лет назад

      I know. I downloaded the song without youtube's loudness normalization and the song has 5dB's of dynamic range due to the hypercompression on the audio. In the short term this may seem like a good idea to make the song loud but in the long term it doesn't do anything in terms of sales or the overall enjoyment of the music.
      The reason why RUclips has loudness normalization in the first place is because most pieces of music are too loud. Ever listen to a song on a playlist where one song is louder than the other and you are reaching for the volume control? Loudness normalization fixes this by reducing the volume of all videos to match -6dB. No matter how loud the song is made, it will always be controlled through loudness normalization.

      imgur.com/a/LvnNY this is what your song looks like when imported into audacity. A brickwall limited waveform.

    • @Radiarc_
      @Radiarc_ 7 лет назад +1

      Listening to this, I can agree that he's focused rather heavily on creating a lush and sparkly ensemble without a very strong piercing lead, but I'd have to disagree on the argument of dynamic range, and here's why.
      The issue with waveform is that it only reveals half of the song, which is to say that it tells you little about the intrinsic qualities, like timbre and mood.
      From a technical standpoint (to which this correlation is expected), it's an alright way to find a song's dynamic range, but that's purely in decibel value.
      To say this song has no dynamic range is to say it starts off post-crescendo, which I can't agree with; it has a smooth lead-in and flows into the chorus complete with a strong and full riser to boot.
      The chorus is where it's a little lacking, sure, but if he'd brought the flute more forward, possibly added saturation and maybe doubled it up with another woodwind or stringed instrument, it would have been a powerful addition to a dramatic piece.
      Afterwards, the piece goes back to a more quiet realm, allowing the listener a moment's reprieve before coming back strong, which is where the second change in dynamics occurs.
      Yes, he still needs to work a bit on mixing and mastering as the instrument separation isn't quite there (which is why the lead sounds a bit meek in comparison to the rest of the ensemble), but this is far from terrible, especially in the fandom.
      Then again, I'm a feelsy guy when it comes to music -- I barely study the waveform, I just go by whatever sounds correct to me, and I can be wrong.
      I don't mean to interrupt, but just thought I'd give my perspective.

    • @techguy348
      @techguy348 7 лет назад

      I did go a little overboard when I said that his songs had no dynamic range. I meant to say they had very little dynamic range. I just don't want brony music artists to apply limiters or compression to the level foozogz is doing in his music. In fact EDM artist deadmau5 despises people who mix EDM songs with limiters. ( facebook.com/deadmau5/posts/113935808712388 ) EDM is another topic, but EDM does not need to be loud to be enjoyable as all types of music, even heavy metal. Back to the topic, the amount of brickwall limiting in Frozen Night's music is less than most I have seen, but if the brickwalling can be mitigated it would be nice.
      I do pro audio and video engineering as a hobby and seeing things like this happening makes me really cringe..
