  • I was honored to be able to talk with Dee about depression and suicide- this was off the cuff and not planned ahead. I wanted to do these videos on mental health because of Lee MacMillan from the RUclips channel "Life With Lee" She passed away March 26, 2021 #SpeakUpForLee
Many Thanks to Box Van Dee for doing this with me. / boxvandee
And Tanya of Van Life Voyages who filmed and edited this! (I don't know how to edit yet)

I feel so alone.......I never thought I’d be in this place -I feel they’re so cold -they don’t care -why should I? I’m holding on by a thread -maybe I should just let go? And I wanna get out of here so bad but how do I know it will be any different anywhere else? I guess I’ll hold onto that thread of hope that it will be and I’ll just try to hold on one more day -maybe I should go back on an anti-depressant?

Please hold on just one more day
One more morning cup of coffee on the porch with my doggie
    One more dish to wash
Sing a song, write a poem
    One more earring lost,
    Send one more text,
    Tell another joke, laugh again
Listen to that new song by Taylor or Billie
    Or that old Beatles one,
    Maybe you'll take another trip
    Finally across the sea,
Or the little grand canyon where they went without me,
    Flirt one more time,
    Love one more time,
One more minute, one more hour,
One more month, one more year,
    One more tear,
    You'll make it,
    You are enough!

I thought that I was connected to your channel. But darn it I wasn't. I fixed and corrected that. I clicked on this one video because it hit home with me. I myself have suffered depression and anxiety attacks. I use to think people made this stuff up. But it's very real. After being diagnosed with a rare nerve disease called RSD/CRPS. And saw what my future hold. I was scared and depressed knowing that things that I once cherished to do were gone. My life was turned upside down. Then after so many days and times praying. I knew that I wanted a way to help others. Something that brought meaning to my life once again. That's when I started doing RUclips. Trying to uplift someone so they don't head down the path I was going. Dee is such a inspiration to everyone. I always told Dee that I hope that I can inspire people like she does. Wonderful interview there. I was in tears at times. Bless you both. See you at Mayberry

I think that Nomad Life helps keep people happy because you’re forced to be outside a lot. Having a dog helps too because you have to walk the dog every day, and that gets you outside a lot. There’s something healing in nature and all we have to do is get up and go outside.

Loved this interview. Love Dee's raw honesty and openness. Regarding going alone into nature, my mom always said,"to blow my mind."😆
I go to the beach to blow my mind. Sometimes all I can do is sit on the
trailer stairs and watch the palm trees blow. Just to touch nature.
Years ago my therapist told me i had to have a depression schedule. I got 15 minutes to lament every 3 hours, so i had this schedule. I would feel something come up and look at the schedule, Oh, gotta wait till 11:15 to cry over this. Then 11:15 came and I couldnt get into the lamenting mood. So after 3 days of trying to schedule my sorrows, it just seemed silly, I didn't bother with it anymore and just pushed every feeling till another time. It suddenly seemed not worth the time invested. I use that today when things overwhelm me.

Red, you really worked some magic with putting Dee at ease. I'm not sure I've seen her speak so well for so long since her stroke.
In 1990, I caught a glance of a car parked next to the woods along the side of a neighbor's long and isolated driveway, off the long and isolated private road I was living on, a dead end with only 5 houses. Nobody ever parked there. 2 months earlier, right after Christmas, a friend at work, who was moonlighting as our handyman after work at a city water department, told me he was on duty on Christmas day when his partner spotted a hose going from a car's exhaust pipe, into the car as a suicide attempt, and how they saved the person. So during the 1 second I had to take a good look as I drove past, I looked at the exhaust pipe. HOSE! I jumped out and told my wife to go home and call the ambulance and cops, car exhaust suicide in progress. The car was locked, but the hatch lock wasn't engaged due to the hose, so I crawled through the hatch to unlock the door, then went around and pulled out an unconscious 19 year old girl in her pajamas, and set her on the ground. Her skin was completely gray. I managed to hold her head where I could hear her breathe, though when the cop arrived with oxygen it turns out I wasn't holding in in the best position to prevent choking on saliva. Anyway, she was breathing and still unconscious, limp like a rag doll. After the ambulance arrived and took her away, the cop asked what I thought of the suicide note. I'd been too busy to look for a note, hadn't seen it. He apologized that he wasn't allowed to say what it said. So I wondered if it was really bad, and she'd try suicide again. Fast forward 2 years, a car pulls up next to me at a red light 5 or 10 miles from home, and it was that car and that girl, singing and drumming on the steering wheel to the music. What a relief to see she was healthy and happy enough to be singing along with the radio! My girls were in the car with my wife and I during the ordeal, but were only 2, so don't remember it thankfully. I often wonder how her life went after that.
    P.S. to Red,
You happen to look very related to two first cousins of mine. It almost makes me wonder if my aunt had 3 kids rather than 2, only half joking. Facial features, voice, tone, speech patterns. We were all born and raised in NJ. My grandparents raised those two after my aunt died at age 40 in 1965. Her husband had earlier left them.

Excellent and very honest vlog. We are all different with complicated feelings and emotions, also brain chemistry plays a role as well. However, we all have a common thread and thats the need to be loved. Finding what heals you is definitely the key to finding inner peace and joy. Life gives us hurdles and mountains to climb, the trying times are part of our life lessons. it's figuring out how to deal with those challenges is the hard part, and as Dee said, these things tend to pile on. I highly recommend a good therapist to help with coping skills, and trust worthy friends that are good listeners are priceless as well. However, stay mindful and understand they are coping with their issues as well. May God bless both of you!

Hi Adventurous Spirit! It was so great meeting you! You are right but I have had a difficult time through the years to find a good therapist. I've had two that were good who actually just moved their practices with barely any warning and one I had recently was actually the best and very helpful was only temporarily working at the health department for an internship as she was still in college- so it was also free! After my divorce I no longer had health insurance and for a time could not afford therapy. So the free person was such a blessing. 😀

I think we as women have things tht do bring us down and we learn to lock it away and then something else happens and we do the same thing and after awhile this has built up and for some, unfortunately the journey ends and then there is others tht even end up locked up somewhere and then some learn to start letting it go a little at a time. We learn to live/deal with things in our own way. Some find music, art, etc. Then others stay locked in silence forever. We all have a path, how we walk it is up to us 🤗♥️🙏

Some find help writing just 5 positive things that happened that day even if it's a thought. It's a start.💝 Also have your hormones checked, not just female hormones. Plus on the road you don't have to listen to annoying leaf blowers, you can listen to the birds, the ocean, wildlife, meet people who care, change your surroundings when you need and want to. 🤗

Hello Christine! Very good tips!! I do have a thyroid issue too. And I write (hence the name) to vent and yes being in nature is sooooooo healing!!! I have never been this happy in all my life! I'm so grateful! Thanks for watching! RED ❤️
