Thanks for the video & by all means i'm not trying to find fault with anything , just an FYI..... when pouring from an oil bottle let the spout be on top, it allows the air to flow through the bottle & it will flow without the chugging & splash......try it sometime.... again thanks for the helpful video.....
There is an error in the owner's manual (incorrect fluid amount). The actual fluid drained and amount to be filled is about a gallon (provided you have a proper fluid level). 3 quarts is definitely not enough to bring it up to proper level. Make sure you measure the fluid level on a fully warmed up engine on a level surfance about a minute after you shut off your engine.
probably because he jacked up the front tires but not the back so there's more old fluid still in the transmission that hasn't been changed. People warn against flushing transmission fluid since it could dislodge and lodge metal shavings and particles and brick the transmission. Maybe changing most but not all is the way to go...
Barring an existing fluid leak issue or a loss of fluid somehow, if 3 quarts came out, 3 quarts comes back in, no? And if dipstick indicates the correct level then it should be good 👍. Don’t understand your logic of a gallon….
I am very appreciative of your DIY videos on your 2007 Acura MDX. It is very informative and easy to follow. I was hoping if you have or plan to have videos dealing with starter, alternator, radiator, suspensions, timing belt, water pump, spark plugs and brakes removals in the future. Thank you, Sir.
You can find most of the suspension work for Second Gen car (2008, which is the same as 2007 and 2009, as well as 2010-2013 mostly) on my channel, as well as spark plugs, brake service and many, many more (about 50 distinctive videos).
My ATF light came on I put in 3 quarts of ATF in it and the light went off after ten min of driving I got lucky I bought the car and it was sitting awhile I never remembered to check the fluid my lucky day thanks for this video !!!
Is this the piece that controls the auto down when put in reverse gear? Mine has started ‘sticking’ in the set position when put in reverse gear. If I go to park and then back to reverse, then it moves.
Can the 2007 Acura MDX use Mobil 1 ATF? I can't find information about it. It's design for multi-use like the valvoline maxlife atf which is out of stock where I live.
Thanks, I feel it is important to change the fluids on these cars to last for lots of miles. I just rolled over 193k and will need to do this service again soon.
Had a 2001 MDX which I gave to my sister -- I had 100,000 on it, and she put another 150,000 on it until she traded it in for another MDX. No transmission problems of consequence. I've had a 2008 MDX and I've changed the fluid twice -- and I have 135,000 miles -- with no problems.
Gamer BoyYT transmission takes 12 quarts I believe but only about 4 quarts comes out, what he did is basically take out 4 and drive and push old liquid out and take out 4 quarts and drive again. Get old liquid circulated around the transmission. He wasn't doing a flush where he drains while putting in at the same time.
From my understanding this is preferrable (drain and refill, dilute) method if transmission was not flushed and has over 75k miles for longevity reasons
The value of taking the drain bolt out from the bottom is wiping the metal shavings off the magnetic end. You'd be surprised how much is captured. Cleaning it gives the bolt the opportunity to capture more of that crud until the next fluid change. And the fill bolt may require a cheater bar, but you have relatively good access to it and it will come off with some force.
For a 3x3 drain and fill procedure, are you supposed to drive the car around for a few hundred miles in between each drain and fill? Or should you try and do it all in a single day?
No, 3x3 means drive it a few miles and come home and so on. Just make sure you go though all the gears so that may mean more miles. I live in the country so I can hit 50MPH (5th gear) within a 1/2 mile or so and go though the gears fairly easily before I go back home and to the next flush.
I get a lot of engine braking from the torque converter at 45 a little shutter that's probably what it is and then it feels like it's a dog ,it loses power.
The total capacity is something like 8.5-12qts? (heard different things, not certain for this 5 speed), most of it does not drain (remains in torque converter). But the basic concept is that you are basically diluting it. Yes, some of it inevitably does get wasted. On the 3rd fillup, you are technically throwing out more new fluid than old (and fluid is expensive!), but how clean you want to keep it depends on yourself. I did a 2 times change (not 3) after 50k on my 2011 model and my shifting went from average to amazing. I am planning to do another 2-times change in 30k.
Some suggest out that you can do an annual three quart change -- that will help to keep it reasonably clean. It's probably not a bad idea, as it will have you keeping an eye on it at least once a year -- which is probably more than 90 percent of folks regularly do.
Do you think it would be ok to do the drain and fill with the Castro multi vehicle transmission fluid, but then use the Acura fluid for the final fill in order to save a few bucks??
Some of that previous Castrol would have still been mixed with the solution, might has well kept it homogenously Honda/Acura/Idemitsu transmission fluid

a72bigblock nice tip!

His 3 qts made it between the dipstick dots on a hot engine. I’d think a gallon would overfill
I would think 3.3 quarts will be perfect.

@@sugarrayrob1930 a 'flush' and a change are 2 different things. never flush just change.

Turn your bottles over the other way and they won't glug when you pour them.
So u flushed it out 3 times and every time u took it for a test drive to recirculate the fluid?? Only 3 bottles to fill up?
Veth Lab each time he put 4 quarts ,system takes 12 quarts I believe so he did it four times to get the old fluid out, because not all comes out
I have an idea just fill it up through the dipstick hole work great for me one less tool
What funnel do you use that fits inside the dipstick hole?
Great video thanks doing this to a 2009 Honda pilot same applies other than a different type of transmission fluid thanks again
I've told to put 4 qt for drain and fill .saw u put in 3 qt
What about the filter?
Should we change the filter at the same time?
Is this the piece that controls the auto down when put in reverse gear? Mine has started ‘sticking’ in the set position when put in reverse gear. If I go to park and then back to reverse, then it moves.
Big mistake not to run through all the gears including reverse BEFORE you do a test drive.
How can he run through all the gears and reverse without test driving it? I don't get what you're saying.
Can the 2007 Acura MDX use Mobil 1 ATF? I can't find information about it. It's design for multi-use like the valvoline maxlife atf which is out of stock where I live.
Great video thanks!
was that ATF level taken while the engine is hot?
Where did you find the necessary tools to change the trans fluid, and were they very expensive? I need those exact tools for my Ford explorer.
nice job very educating
Thanks, I feel it is important to change the fluids on these cars to last for lots of miles. I just rolled over 193k and will need to do this service again soon.
good job sir.
Good info,
Seiyah. How many quarts did you used to get at the right level?
3 3/4 qrts ATF DW-1
And a brand new crush washer install it flat side towards the plug.
@@-MrRichBiker1967 that's only one round out of the 3 that are needed. It's 15 quarts in total
Hi.do we have to change filter?
Have you ever had any problems with your MDX transmission? I'm thinking about purchasing a used 2007 Acura MDX.
Michael De La Garza thanks
Joon kinloch never have a problem on MDX
Joon kinloch the shock have problem after 100,000 miles
You know you can also buy the Honda DW-1 or idemitsu type H- plus ! They’re all the same fluid
H-plus is actually a little thicker and protects better under heat from shearing
Amzoil
I don't understand why do you need to drain and fill 3 times? which means you need to buy 12 liters/quart of transmission oil.

That's how you full service your trans oil..
From my understanding this is preferrable (drain and refill, dilute) method if transmission was not flushed and has over 75k miles for longevity reasons
Hi maybe i missed it. What kind of oil? My manual says z-1dealers only have the w-1 but it says not to use in all wheel drive cars. Im confused
So does it take 3 quarts or just over 3 quarts?
12 quarts total. Gotta do this process 3 times.
Drain it 3 times but no filter change??
Where can I get the original Acura oil ???
I sorry question where is the filter
can you just siphon it out of the dipstick? also can you just refill through the dipstick?

how many bottle to fill up? tks
Same as rdx. I don't know why ppl or mechanics tighten the top bolt in so hard.
I filled my 08 through the dip stick hole.

Any issues with transmission "shudder" around 35 - 45 mph?

I want to know how to turn ATF into Au. Chaching$$$$
do we really need to change it 3 times? and waste the other 6qts?

Most shops just drain and fill one time I think, and call it transmission service. At the dealership it's done 3 times and they call it a FLUSH.
Why did you have 10 quarts and only put in 3 🤔
He did it 3 times
Very confusing! Why didn’t he just say so or show it? A lot of people asked the same question
Same process for 08 ??
Duh
It should take 3 3/4 of bottles
Thought it was 4qts.
Mine is 2.9
Do you think it would be ok to do the drain and fill with the Castro multi vehicle transmission fluid, but then use the Acura fluid for the final fill in order to save a few bucks??
J S always use what Acura recommends. Don't mix fluids
Not worth it. Fluid is cheap, transmissions aren't.
Some of that previous Castrol would have still been mixed with the solution, might has well kept it homogenously Honda/Acura/Idemitsu transmission fluid
