    Great video. The part about doing partial changes is new to me. I was always told to do a 3x drain and fill so as to replace all of the fluid.

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  6 лет назад +3

      Thanks! My idea is to keep to the manufacturer’s service manual. Which doesn’t mean, of course, that it’s optimal or best. But hey, I have 150 K miles or 240 K kms mileage, so I guess that works. The peculiar feature of this transmission is that the filter is inside, meaning you have to take it apart to clean or change it, so using the “pressure” method of flushing the AT fluid is not recommended. That being said, I know a lot of people are using the 3x drain method successfully. In any case, it goes to show that this particular transmission is very teliable and long lasting. I hope it lasts for you, me and every other owner!

    • @dv2183

      how often do you change the ATF? Do you wait until the maintenance light alert? Also, the last part this video you reset the maintenance light to 100%. Is that for the oil change or the ATF that you just did?

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  6 лет назад

      I always follow the computer maintenance minder. Also, resetting the maintenance minder procedure it is the same for any codes, whether it’s just oil or anything else.

    • @dv2183
      @dv2183 6 лет назад +1

      I already have 55k on mine and I still have not had the maintenance minder for ATF. I read online to change at 100k but some also say to change at 25k. At what mileage did you first change your ATF. Thank you for your reply by the way. This video is very informative.

    • @AcuraAddicted

      @@AcuraAddicted Thanks again Bogdan. I was able to do the ATF fluid replacement, case transfer, diff fluid, and oil change all on the same day. I followed your instructions to the T and everything worked out well. That bolt isn't going to come off without a breaker bar, that is for sure. I changed everything without any lift and did exactly what you did by measuring the fluid. By having the MDX completely flat in my garage it drained exact 5QT/5L, instead of the 4. So it seems the difference between having it raised vs without it being raised is 1QT/1L of fluid. Our ATF fluid was thick like oil and had some gunk stuck to the drain plug. I notice a huge difference now after all these fluids were changed out. It drives very smooth now.

    Thank you for the nice video. You didn't show the location of the ATF dipstick. Since it has a dipstick, why can't you fill the tranny via the dipstick tube instead of removing the filler plug?
    Thanks

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  Год назад +1

      You can definitely fill the transmission through the dipstic. Only it's very inconvenient and will take forever to push 4 L of fluid via a tube that's less than 1 cm in diameter. It's pointless, since filling through the fill plug is very easy.

    Bogdan thanks for your helpful videos. I bought my mdx 08 because of your assuring videos. I have a challenge at the moment. My gear slips and my check transmission light pops up. • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  2 года назад

      Uh-oh, transmission slipping is not a good sign in general, especially when it comes to second gen MDX, because both 5 and 6 speed transmissions are rock solid on these cars, meaning yours might have been neglected (or non-OEM ATF used for fluid changes, which is a big nono). The error you scanned suggests you might get away with just replacing one of the transmission pressure switches (I believe third gear one). Here's a video I found on full diagnostics and replacement. ruclips.net/video/iWrCqWjcR3E/видео.html

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  5 лет назад +1

      Hi. That’s correct. While I cannot predict what my next service code is going to be, if one of the figures is going to be 6, I will be changing the rear diff fluid and filming it. Now as to when that’s going to happen? Probably not in the next 2-3 months after now, as I’m at 40% oil life. Also add a month or two of editing and I need to make sure it aligns with the next season, that puts it probably way to far for you to wait. I suggest watching other videos on how to do it, I know there are at least three on RUclips. It’s not a complicated task. Good luck!

    • @AcuraAddicted

      Thanks! Yes, that should be the ATF. In the service manual Acura says to drain the fluid before removing axles. However from what I heard, so little comes out, no one cares to do that. In any case, once everything is back together I suggest checking ATF level by warming up the engine (fan comes on at least twice), shutting it off and verifying that the ATF level is between low and high marks within a couple of minutes.

    Hello again Sir! Major important question here. Transmission oil filter... do ours have it and if do have you a video diy? I hear in the other 3.2 and 3.5 j’s they break down and can cause a failure due to clogging. My trans is shifting late and slightly hard, more noticeable from park to drive. I know one of the pressure switches can be a cause but if I replace it and do that I’m gonna assume it’s a trans oil filter. Any knowledge can you spare Sir?

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  5 лет назад

      @AcuraAddicted  5 лет назад

      Hi Tony. First of all, are there any errors, check engine light? If yes, it’s easier to diagnose. I did not entirely understand if you feel that transmission is slipping or it is simply not smooth. If it’s not smooth between the first and second gear on a cold transmission, it’s normal behaviour for this transmission. If you hear a noticeable clunk when switching to reverse with open windows, it’s also normal, that’s how it engages the rear gear. If you could provide more details and let me know if there are any errors displayed, perhaps I can help you out.

If you battery keeps discharging even after the battery and the alternator is replaced (given that the battery terminal cables are good), here's how to disconnect the HFL module and forget about it forever: ruclips.net/video/CvxJv1VAGDA/видео.html

    • @rumahlampu9519
      @rumahlampu9519 4 года назад

      Thank you for your fast response...I'll check the HFL today...and is low battery voltage cost the transmission slip because every time the radiator fan on everything went dim on the dashboard for a second and the transmission slips even on the highway

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  4 года назад

      @@rumahlampu9519 Not sure how this might cause transmission to slip, as slippage is usually caused by worn out friction rings: mechanical parts in the transmission. How often are you changing transmission fluid? Are you using the original ATF DW-1 in your transmission? Have you had any issues with your radiator and transmission colling?

    • @rumahlampu9519
      @rumahlampu9519 4 года назад +1

      HFL already disconnected when I open the panel. Maybe previous owner did it. I'm gonna check the voltage tomorrow. And I changed the ATF last year, bought all transmission fluid from Honda dealership and I never had problems with radiator but I noticed the radiator fans little bit wiggle

    Hey man, I have never checked my transmission level until today and I am not sure how to read the dipstick. When engine is cold I am in between the mark and when engine hot I have a very low level. How is that possible? I am checking on a leveled surface

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  4 года назад

      Hi. You are supposed to measure the level within 1.5 minutes after the car brings the engine to operating temperature (at least two times for the fans to kick in). The level is supposed to be between the dots. If it’s not, you need to bring it to the level. If you are not sure how to do that, I suggest getting a mechanic do the partial ATF change. And please don’t use any aftermarket fluid, just use the Acura ATF. It’s about a gallon for the partial change. Do what I did: use a gallon empty container to measure how much ATF was there before the drain.

    • @yemin88

      @@AcuraAddicted Thanks, will do now. How come you got 3.8L (and suggest 1 gallon) when the owner manual states 3.0 US qt / (2.8L) for the change of ATF? Is is because the car was not leveled and more fluid got out?

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  4 года назад +1

      @@yemin88 1 gallon is 3.78L, so that's fine. As far as the owner manual, unfortunately, it's a mistake in the official manual. Sadly, many people didn't know and actually filled in only 2.8 L after draining 3.8! Which, of course, is awful for the transmission. So once again, no, this is not a mistake, the proper amount of ATF is almost 4 quarts, not 3.

    I don't know how I expended almost $500. to have the dealership doing the drain and fill...
    Is this the same for a 2016 MDX?. That one comes with Z9 transmission. I had to do it because of the "jerky" transmission issues and the dealership said in order to fix the issue they had to drain and fill to update the computer, something like that. And it cost me $500 year and a half ago. I believe is every 30k miles. So mine is 100250 miles almost ready to the next drain an fill. Can I do the same process as you yo my MDX?. If yes, aren't we supposed to drain not the 100% of the fluid to add around 3/4 with new fluid?. I have heard in the past if you drain the fluid completely and add new fluid to the transmission will damage or have issues. Could you clarify this for me? Appreciate this videos and another subscriber here. Thanks in advance!

      $500? Yikes! My 2008 MDX ATF change at Acura dealership costs $149 (Canadian). Any Acura I know uses drain and refill method. However newer complicated transmissions might require a special procedure (Lexus has been doing it for years, for example, when you have to warm up your transmission fluid to a specific temperature first and follow a strict procedure on what to do). You might have paid $500 for some extra things. ATF change should not cost that much.

      @@AcuraAddicted Thanks for responding to my message. I have reviewed the receipt when I paid for the service. It says " transmission service 9 speed" $380 but with the shop charges and taxes the cost was $450. Not sure how was the services performed, maybe due to the 9 speed transmission the drain and fill process is a little different. The regular MDX transmission drain and fill the table of services and prices says is $139. Maybe that's the reason and if so, that means I can't do it on my own. Will see.
