It’s also fair to ask why so many substances that were available extra-legally and “aftermarket” historically now require private sector investors to spend $100 million on studies to justify monetizing a pharmaceutical patent for $50 billion? (A 50,000% return on investment). They could regulate quality control from a consumer-protection standpoint like supplements. I know the answer is to implement stopgaps to reduce the risk of Substance Use Disorder, but that’s A LOT of oligopoly to achieve that outcome- and the majority of that wealth is not going to frontline scientists and doctors.
Supplements are actually not regulated and not required to have quality control unless the company that makes them decides to do this. When tested, many supplements were found to not contain what they claim to contain or have wildly varying levels of the ingredient used. Though I do hope that with all this research into psychedelics, governments finally also legalize the use of these substances in their "natural" form.
Yep, I think we all know it's greedy pharmaceutical companies & execs filling their pockets. Big Pharma runs the US. Politicians & lawmakers corrupted by greed (bribes & extortion?) have allowed this for decades. Also, the traffickers & abusers make it difficult for law-abiding citizens who need meds for health & survival. Frustrating!
Psilocybin saved me from years of uncontrollable depression, anxiety and illicit pills addiction. Imagine carrying heavy chains for over a decade and then all of a sudden that burden is gone. Believe it or not in a couple of years they'll all over for treatment of mental health issues
I battled with depression, anxiety & C-PTSD. I do hear that shroom cures depression. Wish doctors could be more open to nature medicine over big pharmacy but we know why though
Psychedelics shrooms tend to fix problems at their core, unlike modern medicine which tries to fix the symptoms. This is why psychedelics work great for depression and addiction.
Glad to see Mind Medicine is on the cutting edge of this. I invested $5000 a few years back hoping for some kind of innovation beyond SSRIs to address this wave of depression and anxiety that seems to have taken root in our society. Appreciate your vids Doc, keep up the good work.

Finally good news for patients with anxiety and depression. I wonder for years now why we haven't better medications in this field. Thanks for sharing, too.
I've had problems with depression and anxiety most of my life, since I was young. In the 90s, my early 20s, I tried acid 2 or 3 times, and I want to share that looking back it's the one thing I'm glad I tried, it was definitely good for me. Ecstasy might have been good too, I tried that next but it became a habit and I think I did way too much of it, and that was definitely not good. Alcohol, I wish I had never tried. Anyway, I look forward to seeing it properly produced and used experimentally, finally. This is great news.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤thaaaaankyouuu for understanding that not everyone has the same level of normal.... Some exercise, some mediate and some take lsd medication. But we all are trying to get better that's for sure❤❤❤❤
Woah this is such an amazing thing to learn about... I knew some other drugs were being studied, but didn't realize things were so close to being brought to the public. Thanks for bringing us the news!
I did LSD last year in august. I was having frequent panic attacks, anhedonia, executive dysfunction in college and my job, major social anxiety. I had an ego death and felt like I was a clean slate, no more anxiety or depression. I only recently started to feel anxious again, but that 10 months post-trip gave me so much FREEDOM to learn about myself and learn to regulate myself emotionally.

@@kayhaich Nope. Been on over 20 different medications over 28 years for 10 different diagnoses that were all wrong. We finally found what works. I'm neurodivergent and it is what works for me. ☺️
Thank you Dr. Marks for all the info! This new development ought to help a lot of people who are currently suffering, because trends show that depression/anxiety are on the rise. Psychedelics have radically altered my life for the better, with LSD basically "curing" my alcoholism and decade-long depression. Psilocybin, the small few times I tried, helped me achieve significant, deep philosophical insight into the nature of existence, spirituality, and love that I'm eternally grateful for. But it would be irresponsible to tout the benefits without cautioning people to be safe and do ample amounts of research before trying such powerful substances. If strong positive effects can happen, then strong negative ones can too even if they may not have an equal likelihood. Plus overall, the neurochemical benefits of psychedelics can be achieved through meditation and the other things mentioned, which I do nowadays to maintain peace of mind soberly. Whatever anyone does, hope they are doing so in a safe, healthy way 💜
Sort of funny seeing some up in arms about potential therapeutic uses of these, while the more damaging and dangerous effects of recreational alcohol throughout society, is "shrugged off" as totally normal by most...
I think most of society agrees alcoholism is terrible and drinking is less popular now than at any point in history. It has no medicinal benefits. While psychedelics do have a therapeutic effect for many people, it also can be harmful for a lot of people as well. I just argue that it should be approached with caution and on a case-by-case basis, that's all.
Alcohol is the only legal drug in all 50 US states. Sadly, it's abused - and used to self medicate - with negative consequences. Alcoholism destroyed my dad's family when he was growing up. He doesn't drink yet has shown effects of his father's emotional aB*$e & dysfunction, which has negatively affected me.
This makes me so happy! It's incredibly exciting. I know that acid has always actually helped me in times in life that have been full of tumult. Been through some really bad bullshit with some guys lately. Dated my ex of 8 years that I broke up with in 2011. We were only together for a couple of months and he really treated me like trash and it was just an awful time. But last weekend I managed to get a hold of some acid and I got to say. It was really so helpful. I remember who I am now in ways that I for some reason forgot. It really is such a blessing
I always enjoy your show, as an Autie with a special interest for psychopharmacology... I love that you go into M.O.A. in a way that layman can grasp. The true mark of brilliance is the ability to simplify complexities. You do that, and save me a lot of time explaining things to friends that ask. Cheers and qudos!
So grateful for this video. I’ve experimented in my younger years and noticed a big change positively (in the right safe setting) and it help me get through some very hard stuff without crippling fear. But yes it go through the proper processes before more widely available. Thank you again!!
So exciting, as an anxious neurodiverse person, I’m thrilled to hear that the medical community has truly found the actual uses for these amazing compounds. Can’t wait to give it a try. Mushroom therapy was a huge catalyst for healing o. My journey. Thank you so much, love your informative work.
I can tell u that acid and shrooms do amazing things for depression but I do not believe at all that pharmaceutical company's need to be putting their greedy ass hands in the basket. This is gonna ruin it for all the people who grow shrooms naturally
Psilocybin containing mushrooms save my life. The drastically reduced my benzodiazepine withdrawal allowing me to quite illicit pill addiction after three years of heavy daily use before it would had became medically dangerous to quit
Yeah. More people should try psychedelics. Not only in a medical environment because in some countries they are illegal. But with the right set and setting they can do wonders.
@@Polianafreitas436 Yeah but the right set and setting aren't that easy to accomplish. It took me a while to go looking for a shrink and it took me another while to really open up to her. And then Covid hit and I couldn't afford it anymore while we all sorta went crazy but that's a different story :D.
I used to have terrible anxiety, PTSD, OCD, depression, and doing acid for the first time in my mid 20's really helped calm me down and work thru trauma I had been holding onto for so long that I didnt know how to get rid of. I am very calm now but I still struggle with depression and suicidal ideation so I do acid every time it comes around and I always feel at 100% my happiest and most creative not to mention having the an immense will to live and love for life while on it. I believe these breakthroughs can help so many ppl just like me.
Most of those people are on some kind of drug that their doctor perscribed to them, so it doesn't make much of a difference. The only thing that's different is now we're able to do clinical trials to find better ways to produce, and dose.
Yay! I have a wonderful psychiatrist and therapist. I still have anxiety attacks and have low grade anxiety much of the time. I can hardly wait for this "new" treatment!
I've said it once, I'll say it again. My friends felt bad for going to a rave without me because I have epilepsy, not that I wanted to go anyway, I also have moderate to severe anxiety and major depressive disorder. So a week after the rave, we got together at my place and I tried psilocybin. I wasn't just able to party with my friends, I was able to just be normal. Shrooms literally cured my depression.
I don’t know. I had some pretty bad trips on acid as a depressed teenager and one from of mine from high school ended up in a live in mental health facility from taking LSD.
It's funny how these cases are completely omitted in these kind of campaigns, or they minimise the harm with statements like "you took too much" or "maybe this drug isn't for you"
As soon as I left the military I self medicated on everything. That seems to have been a huge key in things. It was highly wrong back then and I'm happy to see this coming out years later. For anyone not just vets.
If I’m feeling a hankering for some major, big-time anxiety, I take LSD. Experiencing time disappear completely brings the crippling fear for me, every time.
Hi Dr. Marks, I really enjoy your videos. As a woman, I feel ignored and dismissed by the medical community, for both physical and mental symptoms. The distrust I have for most doctors has only gotten worse since I became "sick" with ME/CFS and have gained a lot of weight. Have you done/ will you do an episode on Gender Bias in mental health treatment- specifically concerning the use of psychedelic/ "street drugs?" I've been suffering from depression for decades and I desperately want to try something New. I have literally a bucket of psych meds that I tried, some worked a little or never worked, and then quit after 6 months+ because they weren't helping. Do you have the data that shows how many women vs men are approved for these treatments? I wasn't allowed to have my tubes-tied until I had a kid, which inevitably happened but was not in my plan. I feel like the medical community doesn't treat me like a person. How can women advocate getting new psych treatments?
LSD has given me great experiences and tools that allowed me to free myself of anxiety, depression, and gave me higher levels of self awareness. It’s let me fix my own problems, inspired me to go to further education, and has been an almost spiritual tool for me. It’s so cool to see this and other psychedelics be on the list of stuff to get closer to fda approval.
I think if I wanted to decrease anxiety I would either address the actual issue causing it, lift heavy weights or supplement with magnesium but yeah if you want the ClA developed mind melter go right ahead I will pass. On a side note you drop acid in an anxious state you’re going to have a really bad time.
Thanks Dr. Tracy. Your videos have really been helping me and i find your clinical presentation and deep voice quite soothing. When i took Acid recreationally i was surprised to find the drug made me very assertive and motivated, which is unusual for allot of people which take it for the first time. This led me down a path of self reflection where i believe i worked out i have BPD, and am prone to cortisol induced combat posturing, which has caused many issues in all my relationships. Even as a kid i always saw myself as a combat organism what with being male, but i never really stopped to realize that that was a warped self identity due to all the violence i faced growing up I have been struggling due to the very emotional opinions conventionally brained people have towards BPD people, they all think we are monsters, but in truth i cant help entering a state of secondary psychosis, and it leaves me not knowing weather to blame myself or those around me... I hate feeling like a human landmine, but your videos have been enlightening me of many coping mechanisms which i will be sure to make use of in the future. Thanks for all you do!
As a Psychedelic nerd and advocate, I have issues with this. MM-120 and LSD 25 are wild, crazy, not for everyone. You can fudge studies to say whatever you want to get your patented drug approved. They should use better/milder lysergamides like Al-Lad or Mipla for this sort of treatment, things that don't send you into a state of mind that can easily teeter into psychosis. Things that don't induce heavy anxiety. This study about MM-120 is kind of BS. If LSD cured anxiety, I would've been anxiety-free 20 years ago, but now, finally I'm finding some things that actually work. And it was Mescaline that really showed me how to face my anxiety and stay busy and focused through each moment. The fact is, these companies are pushing LSD cuz there is room to patent. Let's focus on the safe stuff first, mushrooms, cactus, mdma, etc.
I was a participant in the LSD trial and got a what I think was a low/non-therapeutic dose that only briefly caused visual distortions. I know you're supposed to enter a clinical trial knowing that you might get a placebo, nonetheless, I was still hoping for a therapeutic dose. Unfortunately, when I didn't, my depression skyrocketed. I remain hopeful that one day I might get relief.
I'm 39. Male. Ukrainian. Over the course of a year, I took LSD (110, 140, 160 µg) 12 times, once a month. The substance was pure. Each trip was profound in terms of my psychological breakthroughs. My goals were: anxiety, my tendency to fall into depressive moods, to find myself(which was kinda lost after my long depression), to improve my mental health overall. I did it in my room(dark, warm and comfy). My last trip I did in the Carpathian mountains (I met the sunrise there). During each trip I listened to Ambient music(Robert Rich, Brian Eno). Result: exceeded all my expectations. LSD is a highly underestimated medicine for the human mind. Under the right circumstances it can bring a lot of positive changes to one's mind.
Strange it had the opposite effect on me, multiple trips which were very enjoyable brought my anxiety to a peak. Lots of people went into asylum by this drug. Your doses were wise unlike mine.
I had crippling social anxiety before I took LSD, after my first trip my brain completely shed itself of it, and the anxiety is now a distant memory ! bets shit I ever did
Thank you for this very good and very informative video. I hope the psychedelic treatments will be available very soon. But one thing is FDA apporoved in America, and available there. I live in Norway, and we might not get it approved or available here as soon as in America. But in the meantime, I will do excercise, meditation, omega 3 and so on as you suggest + metacognitive therapy. I strongly belive in metacognitive therapy, but have yet to try it myself. Thumbs up for a great video, and thumbs up for psychedelics as a treatment option!
I mean... taking Lsd has made me not wanna commit suicide anymore. I still deal with depression obviously, that's just side effect of life, but my point on view on life and living has changed. The negative thoughts come and go but I have found a different appreciation for life after taking Lsd.
I tryed microdosing on psilocybin, and did feel less depressed while on them, but the headaches that came after were the killer of the experiment. I have migraines every week, so adding a new type of headache to the list once or twice a week basically meant I never had a headache free day
Microdosing occasionally allowed me to decide to just have one good day every so often. And I really needed that. A day when I felt connected to nature and my pets and just more grounded. Until I could get the right therapy and time to work through my life.
The strongest medication I took was for schizophrenia when I had a massive panic attack. Took it for a few days and it helped me calm down to regular anxiety. Now I take a different anxiety medication.
I really hope to be able to try these. I tried ketamine and my first infusion was a miracle! The best I’ve felt in over 30 years. It only lasted for 3 days though🙁 I really want to be able to go outside and experience a happy life with my family. I barely ever go outside anymore. It’s hard for me to keep my own yard looking nice
This is amazing news! I hope we see psychedelics finally get all the respect they deserve, because from the comments and the research, they really can be a game-changer.

Corruption plain and simple. We live in an oligarchy that does not want the citizens to be well.
I can recommend you to Frierson Selman he is a genius
dr_fselman shrooms made me discover a lot about myself, the trips I got were mind and eye opening

Glad to see Mind Medicine is on the cutting edge of this. I invested $5000 a few years back hoping for some kind of innovation beyond SSRIs to address this wave of depression and anxiety that seems to have taken root in our society.
Appreciate your vids Doc, keep up the good work.
Thank you .SSRIs just don't work for me .The side effects of Nausea and Vomiting is unbearable as well for me.

Psychedelics have had enormously profound positive effects for me! The government lied to us and now we’re FINALLY researching these amazing compounds. THANK YOU Dr. Marks for covering this important topic!!
This is why people need to think for themselves not do what we're told or beleive what's right and wrong cuz others say it. Laws and morals are not mutually exclusive.
microdosing L for adhd helped me years before i had an official diagnosis and actual official meds. L is an incredible medicine and tool , im not surprised it helps anxiety as well
💯 Way more helpful than stimulants which drove me nuts and even exacerbated some of my ADHD symptoms. Lions Mane is really great for that too.
If micro-dosing helps your ADHD you're much better off with LSD than Adderall.
How often do you take it ?
I've had great success with psychadelics. Doing an intentional acid trip helped my wife stop being an alcoholic!
I want to try it very badly but it’s not legal and I’m terrified of getting counterfeit product

It really helped me thanks to my well meaning mycologist
Woah this is such an amazing thing to learn about... I knew some other drugs were being studied, but didn't realize things were so close to being brought to the public. Thanks for bringing us the news!
this finding makes me so happy. i wish for every person to be free of negative thinking. it's my deepest desire
That's very naive. None of us can be free of negative thought, only free to understand thoughts change.

Yes it has been known to be a mind-blowing drug.
I have been microdosing psilocybin for five months. Psychedelics saved my life. I'm so glad they're finally getting it.
This may be a stupid question, but how do you know what amount to take?
@@seneek8079 The average dose adults take for usage is 3.5g. I get 30 gummy doses from that. I take approximately 0.2mg a day. I don't feel it but after about a week, the Vail started lifting. ☺️

@@kayhaich Nope. Been on over 20 different medications over 28 years for 10 different diagnoses that were all wrong. We finally found what works. I'm neurodivergent and it is what works for me. ☺️
Wow. Such a hopeful piece of news. I have treatment resistant depression and GAD. I’ve been suffering most of my adult life.
Exactly
Good point
Thank you!!!
Exciting!! We so need new agents for anxiety. I hope to try this when available.
Thank you Dr. Marks, you are giving me hope🙏🏾.
I always enjoy your show, as an Autie with a special interest for psychopharmacology... I love that you go into M.O.A. in a way that layman can grasp. The true mark of brilliance is the ability to simplify complexities.

Out of curiosity what benzo and how much did you take daily ?
You're such a gifted speaker and educator.
It's awesome to see this. What I'd be worried about is the existential crisis some go through
I love how you even offer an alternative for people who are against drugs!
Most of those people are on some kind of drug that their doctor perscribed to them, so it doesn't make much of a difference.
The only thing that's different is now we're able to do clinical trials to find better ways to produce, and dose.

All good news. Thanks, Tracey.
Have they taken into consideration that these meds are so available on the street?

I think if I wanted to decrease anxiety I would either address the actual issue causing it, lift heavy weights or supplement with magnesium but yeah if you want the ClA developed mind melter go right ahead I will pass. On a side note you drop acid in an anxious state you’re going to have a really bad time.
I have high anxiety and plenty of magnesium. I went on magnesium supplements and my levels went too high. So check your levels if you supplement.
Thanks Dr.
Even as a kid i always saw myself as a combat organism what with being male, but i never really stopped to realize that that was a warped self identity due to all the violence i faced growing up
I have been struggling due to the very emotional opinions conventionally brained people have towards BPD people, they all think we are monsters, but in truth i cant help entering a state of secondary psychosis, and it leaves me not knowing weather to blame myself or those around me...
I always appreciate the information and breakdown! Keep up the great work!!
Something about her tone tells me everything I need to know. Bear in mind, folks, a bad shrink WILL destroy your life.

Psychodelics helped me understand forgivness, and im confident enough to say i wouldnt have gotten trough that without the help of those medications

I love it! Great progress
Great news! Nice to hear something positive these days, especially regarding a gov't agency.
I absolutely love LSD and psychedelics
I really hope to be able to try these. I tried ketamine and my first infusion was a miracle! The best I’ve felt in over 30 years.
