I love Rode as a company because they are always improving their products with software updates at no cost. The RODECaster Pro is the perfect example. The amount of updates they did to it since launch is insane. Same thing with the Wireless Go II (lots of improvements and updates as well).
I have a ton of respect for Rode as a company and how they support their community. Not every company can built an enthusiastic user base and they’ve managed to do it by making great products and treating their employees well.
Deity has horrible customer service. I've brought two mics from them & sent out a email about a issue with my D3 Pro. I never got a respond, also inboxed them on IG three times. Because of that my next microphone will be from Rode.
How do you not have a million subscribers yet?? Your videos are great. Subject matter, relevant..thumbnails/audio/video quality, on point..and execution is fantastic!
Thanks Justin! I really appreciate the kind words. Today has been one of those days where the comment sections have been particularly brutal, so this is VERY nice to hear 😁
Both of those sound good. Body shielding is a big problem at the higher frequencies. My wife has the Rode Wireless Go and I normally use the Comica BoomX U2. I sometimes need the second transmitter. I think they both do a good job. The range on the Comica is amazing. Thanks for the review. Have a great day and be safe out there!
We bought the Rode Wireless Go I and it works great for our video reporter. I also bought the Wireless Go II, because of its internal backup recording, 2 channel system and digital audio output to USB-C and lightning.
Actually, I think you did the distance test just right - we do need to see how far they can go with direct line of sight (as you were walking back), but we also need to see how far they can go when they don’t have line of sight and are blocked by “ugly bags of mostly water” and things like that - like you might find in an audience, for example. So, perhaps by accident, but in retrospect I’m not sure I’d change things significantly in order to get those two answers.
Great one as always! I want to love my wireless go ii’s but for me they clip a lot in pretty much every setting. and I feel like I can instantly tell when someone is using it because it sounds a little crunchy to me compared to some higher end wireless systems. But that’s just me. And Potato Jet I guess lol but overall it’s a beast when it comes to use cases for ways to use it. It’s nuts!
There are also small pocket recorders for lav mics like the Tascam DR-10L, which have the advantage that you never have to worry about the signal dropping out. They're also very small, use standard AAA batteries, and they last forever.
Personally think the Deity sounds better. the Rode seems to have some kind of low cut filter on both the internal and external microphone. Good for removing handling noise but something I could do in post would rather have the full range which the Deity seems to offer Both great systems but I have to agree with you the Deity seems to win out in every aspect
So glad you did this one. I'm in need of a wireless system. Bought the Sure lavalier mic. It's awesome but going wireless would really help my outside videos. Thanks Tom. Looks like I'm getting the Diety wireless system. 🤘
Hmmmmm... this was super helpful! Really interesting and useful comparison. I really like that the Deity includes a lav and the screw in mic connector. Also, I think it sounds a bit fuller than the Rode (which I have and use LOTS). P.S. always amazed at how much our bodies attenuate radio signals!
Tom. Your instruction and videos are great, but your puns and jokes are what always keep me coming back. Really appreciate you brother. Thanks for doing your stuff ❤️
Tom, I'll start by saying I love your videos. They always make me smile. Ok... Now to add a few things as only crazy people (like me) can. The Rode Go is a 3.65mw wireless system vs the Deity which is 25mw. Power is logarithmic though so a lot more power gets you a little more range. The Pocket wireless system also works within the Connect system and is supercharged when using it with Connect wireless products. Now for something I didn't find fair... your outdoor range test. You mention having a license so I'll assume that's part 107 so you likely were holding your drone controller while doing your walk test, right? If that's the case, the wireless frequencies of the drone controller could have been creating RF spray affecting the wireless performance of the Rode and Deity not to mention interference within the same frequency range. That's likely why the outdoor range test in an open space was so short for both systems. Am I right on this? I "watched" your video while driving home after work so it was more listening and an occasional glance up at a traffic light. Overall though, fair comparison and I enjoyed it.
I think you're 100% right about the drone controller being a potential source of interference. Next time I'll have to get someone to help me so I can keep it away from the remote. I have no idea if it's the same type of thing or not, but I did the same test with my Hollyland wireless video system and had no issues with interference at all 🤷🏻♂️
@@tombuck I know at least some Hollyland products operate between 5.1-5.9 GHz so they shouldn't interfere with 2.4GHz wireless at all. If anything, it would work the other way around. Drones can also have different bandwidths they can use in flight. The Skydio, for example, has 20, 40 and 80MHz bandwidth modes and 80 is technically using the entire 79MHz legal spectrum that Wifi and 2.4GHz wireless would use. You might look and see if you can minimize the bandwidth your drone operates within and see if the range increases. Who knows, that may even be another Tom Buck video - Best drone settings when using the Rode Go or Pocket wireless. Just thought I'd throw that out for your consideration.
I was about to comment something similar to this. Most DJI mini/smaller drones use 2.4 and 5.8GHz. In the controller software you can sometimes limit the drone to the 5.8 frequencies which could solve your problem. I really enjoyed the live drone footage showing your progress awy from the receivers. Very illustrative!
That sounds amazing just onboard microphone alone. I'm not even done with your video,,, I am in the studio using my JBL Reference monitors that came from my recording studio... WOW.. The distance test was a bit weird but that's just a little "FEEDBACK" "YOU DON'T OWN the SKY" A great new T-Shirt idea for your channel. :)
Glad I came across this video and your channel. Was considering the DJi Mic coming out, but the Deity looks tempting and priced right! Also sounds good.
The DJI seems great, but to me it’s priced really awkwardly. It’s almost too expensive to be in the same league as this, but it’s still cheaper than a “pro” system. But if I’m already spending that much money, I’d almost rather spend a little more and get a truly professional setup from Sennheiser or Sony.
I'm 100% gonna eventually invest in a wireless mic set up. It's tough for me because some of my videos is quickly picking up and filming on the fly; no time to set up anything. I personally have had bad luck with Rhode mics; whole trip video ruined one time due to bad audio. I told Rhode to hit the road. I currently use the 7ryms minibio m2 ($70 on Amazon). It's a "interview" mic; shotgun mic forward and backward. Excellent audio front and back. I like your real world test and the sticky note labeling 🤣. Great video as always!
Hey Tom! This was epic. Your mic reports have taught me so much. I will never clip a lav on my collar again. Also the D.R. on your shirt made me think of Dominican Republic.
It does mean a lot that you say Deity over Rode. The fanboy inside me made it hurt just a little, but I am glad to see all these brands pushing each other to make even better products. Great video! I still need to get my Part 107......the dang weather TAFS and airport pilot stuff gets me every time.....grrrrrr
The Go II's built in recording is AWESOME. I'm definitely interested in that. The DJI mic looks super interesting and they always make good stuff, but they're also kind of on my poo-list at the moment, so I probably won't be getting one. I also think it's priced too high. In my mind, these are very consumer-based products and the $200-$300 price range makes sense. The DJI isn't much more expensive, but once you get near the $400 price point it almost makes more sense to go further and get a truly professional system that will give a LOT more in terms of features, reliability, and usable lifespan (Rode and Deity both offer higher end systems and other companies like Sony and Sennheiser have some pretty legendary stuff). The difference between these simple systems and something like that is huge, and I think DJI is pricing themselves out of the category.
I legit thought that was a Canon XL2 in the background for a few minutes. Haha. When compared side-by-side, the Deity definitely sounds as if it captures more low end while the Rode Wireless Go has some type of high pass filter that can’t be bypassed. Like you said, if you have the Rode, you don’t need to run out and get the Deity. But if you’re in the market, I’d go with the Deity unless you need the Wireless Go II. I have the Rode Wireless Go and it’s been great though it does occasionally drop the connection in my family room/home theater where I often record videos, even with direct line of sight. It might be due to the 10-15 2.4Ghz devices in that room, but honestly who knows?
It's a Canon XL1S! I've been meaning to make a video about it for a while, but ended up being distracted by the Canon L1, which is going to be next week's video. I was also wondering if other devices (like my drone controller) would interfere with the 2.4Ghz frequency.
I was hoping you would have put the link to your sunglasses in the comments too. :) My conclusion is the Rode looks better (kinda like you), but the Deity is more practical and works very well-so I'm leaning more towards the Deity.
I recently found out you can get custom Raybans made from their website! Depending on what you choose, it's not necessarily much more expensive than the off-the-shelf versions!
Some filmmakers still use old Rode large boxes, they say that signal is more reliable than new Rode Wireless Go. But Rode Wireless Go II is totally different beast, it have own memory in remote also.
I've had the Rode Wireless 1 & 2 and the second one makes huge leaps from the first model. I gotta admit that Deity Pocket Wireless for sure SOUNDS better imo tho. And that thread for the mics makes it stand out quite a bit. Good video!
I'm honestly not interested in the DJI. I've got a few personal gripes with the company itself at the moment, but more practically, it's 2.5X the cost of the Deity so I don't even think they're direct competitors. At that price I'd rather spend a little more and get a full fledged pro system from Sony or Sennheiser, so I actually think that while the DJI product itself looks super cool it's priced in a very awkward place.
@@tombuck You got me curious on the gripes you mention. As for the price, the DJI has two transmittors/mics for one receiver, which is in line with the format of the Rode Wireless Go II, they are priced very closely and I think the DJI even got a charging case. That's more of a fair comparision. Maybe a future video if you pardon DJI.
You say the Rode clipped on to someone's shirt is the first thing you notice, but this coming from a guy with a big blue Shure SM7B cover in the way?? Great review :D
Both are very nice systems, but I´m VERY!! excited about the upcoming set from DJI, the DJI Mic System, lots of benefits over these systems......looks sooooooo cool.
The presence of the Deity is very impressive. But then again it's Deities signature... I must say I was kind of shocked at how thin the Rode sounded. Sure with some EQ, it would brighten it up. To my ears at least I really did not like the sound from the Rode. I 100 percent agree that a lav mic is where these make the most sense and I was expecting the Rode to improve but it sounded just as thin and I have used that exact lav through my Panasonic GX8 and gotten better audio. I think overall it is brilliant that consumer-level wireless audio like this exists now because for the longest time people had to pay similar money for awful cheap receivers that were not reliable at all! And seriously hats off on your production level, really go above and beyond
Thanks so much! I appreciate the kind words! I agree completely about how awesome it is to have these options. For so many years I dreaded anytime someone asked me about wireless mics because I knew that the only real option was to spend a lot of money to get something decent, and now I can recommend these with no problems.
Tom....why do you have to make me fall in love with your intros with that B roll going ? lol I swear I get so motivated for more ideas just by your intros. Also I am a Deity fan. I have the Deity D4 Duo which isn't a bad mic but not a lav wireless sadly. The Rode and Deity sound super similar.
After watching this review I have to say it is pretty good. Obviously Tom's opinion. Here is mine: When was the Rode Wireless release April 2019... Deity.. November 2021. This is over 2.5 years in difference and we all know how fast tech moves. Imagine reviewing a 2 year old Samsung to a Shiny new Apple, actually be it any device from Laptops to phones to cars?? Makes no sense.. So yes Rode does have a newer version, Wireless Go 2. I would of loved a review of a single receiver from this model, I know pricing is different but I think this clearly have the Rode as a winner.. I would not say Deity is a copy of the Rode Wireless 2 but they did release this device after the wireless 2 was in the market for many months and yet we are comparing it to the older model. If anything this shows me the quality of the Rode Products. I do not doubt Tom's integrity for one second but if I received a free item to review over an older tech model which I purchased of course I would love and be stoked with my new free gift. Even if their is a disclaimer there is obviously a subconscious aspect to it. I also think for anything professional the Rode Connect and rode Central add so much value to the Wireless Go product (you can tune the sound to your liking so it is a winner every time!).. Lastly I believe the Rode is made in Australia, please correct me if I am wrong but I love to support diversity in supply. Disclaimer, I had no preference between the two brands but after doing further research Rode is my Go II
I love Rode and have a ton of respect for them (and yes, everything is made in Australia, which is fantastic). The old vs. new argument is a valid one, but this is interesting to me since Rode and Deity specifically have a history of leapfrogging each other with products (sometimes Deity is first and other times it's Rode, but they each have a lot of VERY similar products). As for free vs. paid, if anything I would think that I'd be biased towards the one I paid for 😁
I'll kind of echo what I've said in a few other comments: the DJI looks awesome, but it's 2.5X the price of this, so it's not really a fair comparison. And once you're getting into the $300-$400 price range, it almost makes more sense to spend a bit more and get a truly pro system that will last forever.
If there was no Rode Wireless GO II, without a doubt the Deity is the best choice. Now, compared to the RW GO II, which has new features, it's hard to compete. The Sennheiser XSW-D is pretty good too. But in addition to being more expensive, it also only has 1 transmitter and doesn't have as many features as the RW GO II. But the sound is better.
Great video. Really enjoyed the outdoor and drone shots. You should go outside more often (as should I). The Deity sounds better and is a much better value since it includes the lav. The Rode Lavalier Go mic is currently $79 which means you spend $278 to equal what Deity gives you for $169. Really a no-brainer considering you get better sound and avoid the awkward look of having the transmitter clipped to your shirt. I have the Wireless Go II. As you pointed out, it costs much more to get 2 transmitters. Being newer, it adds other features not found on the original Wireless Go like finer gain control and backup audio.
If you ever have occasion to revisit these, it'd be good to know if they can charge and record at the same time, and if they can, if they pick up interference noise from charging.
The receiver uses its only USB C port as the output for the camera via a USB C to 3.5mm cable, so it can't be charged while in use. But I just tested this with the transmitter and it WAS able to keep transmitting while connected to the charger. The red light was blinking on it, which usually means it's charging (it wasn't muted). 🤷🏻♂️
Does Diety offer a 2-transmitter version? I'm considering the Rode Wireless Go 2 because having 2 transmitters is important for my application. Thanks for the helpful video!
Hi Tom, thank you for the objective review. Would you consider reviewing the dji mic that cam out a few months ago. And compare it with the rode go 2 and diety. I watched about a dozen reviews of dji mic but they all are like commercials for dji and not very objective. It looks like dji sponsored a huge number of RUclipsrs to compare dji and rode go.
The DJI mic looks pretty neat! You’re right that DJI is pretty aggressive with marketing, but from what I know they don’t have any input on the final videos. My only issue with the mic at this point is the price. I think the simplicity is great, but it’s almost in the range of pro level Sony/Sennheiser systems. I like the Rode and Deity options because they’re so affordable and make it easy to out good audio in the hands of anyone. 👍
We can agree to disagree on what a good-sounding Mic is. The Shure TL48 or the Countryman B6 is an example of good sounding Lav's! Trouble is the Rode (and I assume the Deity) don't put off enough power to use a good lav mic. Now based on sound through Sennheiser studio headphones the Rode Mic sounds better than the Deity but neither are great. You are correct that these are better than nothing at all and you're also right about not just using the 'brick' but using a Lav to hide the brick. I think as with most things it what you can afford. If you need wireless but can only afford the Rode/Deity then there you go. I have Rode Go, RodeLink, Pico 2, Lectrosonics and my primary system the Shure Axient Digital that cost well a lot! But as with most things you get what you pay for. I will point out that I people spending $5000 + for a camera to shout 4K and then only spending $200 for the audio and I think that's the problem. I would rather people buy a Sony ZV camera with good lens for $2500 and then spend $2500 for good audio but then again I'm old school...
For $169 I think it's tough to go wrong, but you're 1000% right about the expensive camera paired with chap audio example. I would pretty much always recommend investing in audio BEFORE investing in new camera gear. A lot of people have also brought up the Wireless Go 2 or the new DJI wireless, but once we're getting in to the $300-$400 price range, then I think there's a good argument to go with a much more professional option option. For the price I think the Deity is tough to beat.
In regards to the “gain” options, I noticed that the Rode Wireless Go doesn’t actually control gain… it only controls the volume of your receiver’s output to your camera. Does the Diety control the gain on the microphone side? I only ask because the Rode is INCREDIBLY easy to clip and digital clipping sounds absolutely terrible. If the Diety can control mic gain specifically, that would make it beat the Rode hands down.
I believe they're the same in that regard (receiver output being what's adjusted), but the Deity has more increments so I've found it easier to dial in the level I want.
Do did I see you carrying the drone remote during that outdoor test? Could that have been interfering with the signal? Also I share your sentiment with drone flying there’s always someone that appears to want to shut down the flight.
That's a good point! I don't think the drone remote was interfering, but that's actually an interesting point 🤔 My thought is that while it seemed like direct line of sight, there was a slight elevation change, so maybe that did something (along with me facing away from the receivers).
Ok so on the Mic, I have the Rode and well I keep it. That’s done… on the video… whaouu the first shot is soooo cooool 👍👍👏👏 and the drone idea as well… a BtS would be super interesting… congrats great work
Great review Tom, I'm actually ordering the Deity today at this price point, with everything that comes with it, the analogue limiter and Deity quality how can you not? I have the D3 Pro & their original lav and Deity makes great stuff.
Hi folks. If the risk of battery failure worries you the slightly more expensive Sennheiser XSW- D range use a standard non-proprietary readily available rechargeable 14500 LiFePo 3.2 volt battery which is very easy to replace - there's a video online about it.
I've always been a fan of Sennheiser's wireless systems. I was lucky to be able to use them at some of my previous jobs and definitely would like one of my own at some point. They're more expensive, but definitely worth it in the long run.
Could your phone’s Bluetooth or WiFi possibly be interfering? When I first tested the Xvive guitar kit, I couldn’t get it to work unless I shut down my WiFi.
There's a chance it the drone controller could've interfered, but I've personally not had any issues with that before. I think the biggest problem was me having my back to the camera.
Hi Tom, during the long range test, was there any 2.4 GHz (WiFi) signals emitting from a phone in your pocket or the quad-copter controller? These may have swamped the RF signal. This is a common problem in offices with multiple phones, laptops and other devices connected to the WiFi. Something to be aware of after a field test, when the crew shows up to the shoot and range suddenly drops to 10 feet. 🤨
I think that's a very real possibility that I didn't think of at the time (especially with the drone controller). 🤦🏻♂️ If it was from the phone though, that's different in my mind since as "consumer" grade products these are likely to be used around phones quite often.
Actually, Rode is not the first to "kick off" this kind of small mic setup. The Saramonic Blink 500 B2 came first. I bought those first, then bought the Rode Wireless Go II when they came out - and I officially regret it. The Rode Central app crashes a LOT on MacOS and Windows 11 when trying to export uncompressed audio files - even with the latest firmware upgrade. And if the system would just be cleaner in its transmission, I wouldn't need to be relying on the "backup" files on the mic to begin with.
Ahh man, sorry the Rode hasn’t worked out for you- gear regret always sucks. I’ve heard good things about the Sarmonic! But just to clarify the video’s point, it was released after the original Wireless Go.
@Tom Buck I also account for this cost because i film on mobile so I’d have to buy the extra cables $25x2 to pair with my iPhone/ android, and also wanted the go chargin case which is $70 Canadian plus all the extra work to get it in, for the wireless go ii it ends up being around the same price, just $10 more. But I will definitely consider the deity until I get the Dji maybe when rode makes the iii they’ll copy the AirPods case design which I love ❤️ You have the best reviews Tom u should be proud of all that work especially that intro 😍
Very helpful and great video! Two parts had me literally laugh out loud haha 1. The “paranoia and anxiety” comment 2. “Terms and stuff” hahaha 🤣 Love Thursday mornings!
Interesting review. However ... Rode appeared relatively long ago. It is more interesting to compare with their second version. And so far, only they have the ability to create a backup on the transmitter.
The Go II is better, but it’s a dual transmitter system in a different price bracket, so the single transmitter systems made more sense to me to do as a direct comparison.
It’s the Deity S-Mic 2, which felt appropriate here. Check this out though, I’ve been talking with some people from Sennheiser about mics and turns out that while the 416 is amazing, it’s really not always ideal for indoor use. I’m currently very interested in the Sennheiser MKH50, which even at 30 years old, will blow your mind in terms of sound quality. 🤯
@@tombuck wow… not ideal for indoor?! I gotta look into this more. I’ve been going back and forth on ntg3 or the sennheiser… I just get anxiety spending so much money lol
I think at this point the biggest difference between most of these entry level wireless mics is the Rode Go ii with its internal recording on the transmitters. Deity is super legit though!
The Rode II is pretty rad, but at half the price I think this is an awesome deal. Personally, I’ve I’m spending $300 on a wireless then I can’t help but thinking, “Maybe I should just go ahead and get a ‘pro’ system.”
@@tombuck yeah I think like 95% of us get way more features in these devices than we can properly utilize. I got a Synco kit for $50 that works perfectly fine!
These are still the easiest to recommend. The DJI mic is also very popular, but I haven’t used it. If you’ve got the budget, a pro-level system like the Sennheiser G4 will put you into a different level.
They’re pretty different units since the Go II is twice the price, has two transmitters, and offers internal recording. The sound quality should be roughly the same though.
The biggest differences are that the more expensive one is a truly professional two-transmitter system whereas this is a consumer level singles transmitter system. The pro offering give more power options, better build quality, more reliability, and the option to fine tune and adjust channels/frequencies.
Can you plug a dynamic mic into these? I have an XLR to 1/8 in cable. I was wondering if this might be a good way for me to turn my SM58 into a wireless mic.
I have a question about sound quality using the sound pad for intro music on a live remote radio show. I use the wired connection from the rodecaster to my iphone. I dial the station and connect though the board. I've noticed while talking the sound is great, but the into music sounds low and like I'm playing the music over the iphone mic. Is there a setting that fixes this or any suggestions?
Hmm, the sound pads should be the same quality as everything else. The only thing that comes to mind is potentially a bad cable or the cable not being a "true" TRRS cable.
Great Video but I always wondered for real… Why would I want to film in one room and walk 4 rooms away. 🤣🤣🤣. Dude it’s not that important if the Deity is better or worse in that case, I would just do a voice over as if I was out of frame people would not know if I’m in room or 4 room down with some small processing.
Sometimes you just gotta film yourself from 4 rooms over 🤷🏻♂️ (you're totally right though, just about all of these will work well in most normal situations)
@@tombuck I wouldn’t expect anything less than a hilarious response from you 😂 The $30 and the Included Lav is really the hook, Rode should be ashamed of themselves always pulling an “Apple” pricing trick. 🤣
It's literally a Sin actually that Deity Doesn't Come with Dual Wireless Mic Kits of that Awesome Audio Quality for the Pocket Model! It’s No Wonder that People Go for or rather are forced to go to the Comica X-D2 or X-D2 Pro for Price to onboard recording features VFM with reasonable audio quality. Cheapest Apparently is LensGo or MoveLink2 another Mid to Low Budget Option. Deity Sadly isn't available on Amaz0n.in either! Sad! DJI very overpriced with no Display! Saramonic Blink 900 2 Pro as well High Priced! Have you tested or done a review video on Comica X-D2 Pro? Would Love to Hear Your thoughts and see outside in traffic noise airplanes noise review vs Rode Go 2 or others of your choice would be highly appreciated! Nice Detailed Video BTW there Brother! Cheers! Michael. All the Way from India🕵🏽♂️👍🏼
Haha, it’s the Deity S-Mic 2, which felt appropriate for this. It’s not actually great for doing videos in this room since it’s more of a traditional shotgun.
If you're curious about the Rode Wireless Go, my full review is right here: ruclips.net/video/Ej8GmdETg8E/видео.html
I love Rode as a company because they are always improving their products with software updates at no cost. The RODECaster Pro is the perfect example. The amount of updates they did to it since launch is insane. Same thing with the Wireless Go II (lots of improvements and updates as well).

Great comparison. I love the drone footage. I also think it’s cool that your sunglasses and car color are on brand!
I found out that you can do custom Ray Bans online and it’s basically the same price as regular ones! 😎
Thanks for the kind words! I've heard great things about the Comica, so I'm glad it's working out for you.
Hello do you and your wife use both mics at the same time and if you do is there any glitches.

OMG!! That`s what I call a review video!! Your style Tom!!! I love it. The drone test was amazing!
Thank you Alessa! The drone overlay graphics were so confusing to make, but I'm glad they paid off!

It’s a great little system for sure. I love that the Deity is able to have more incremental adjustments to the gain to avoid clipping 👍
So helpful!! You crushed this video Tom. Crazy high quality
Thanks Dan! Looking for more gear? 😁😉
These B-Roll shots just keep getting better and better dude, amazing video, as always! 🙌
Thank you! I feel like I've really started to get a handle on this Sony camera and now it's letting me do some super fun stuff.
There are also small pocket recorders for lav mics like the Tascam DR-10L, which have the advantage that you never have to worry about the signal dropping out. They're also very small, use standard AAA batteries, and they last forever.
Yeah, those are definitely smart choices for anyone who doesn’t mind syncing audio in post! Not worrying about signal drops is fantastic.
Personally think the Deity sounds better. the Rode seems to have some kind of low cut filter on both the internal and external microphone. Good for removing handling noise but something I could do in post would rather have the full range which the Deity seems to offer
Both great systems but I have to agree with you the Deity seems to win out in every aspect
I’ve always liked the Rode, but when it’s directly compared to the Deity I much prefer the Deity’s sound.
I hear DJI are coming out with their own wireless mic system soon too.
They already have!
@@PeterLindgren1 you just can´t buy though :-(
Officially coming out in early 2022
@@m_saqibali but I want it noooooooow! 😂😝
They have and it's "way" more expensive than either of these (it's really nice though).
That Deity lav mic sounded more full than the Rode for sure.
for shure he he he
So glad you did this one. I'm in need of a wireless system. Bought the Sure lavalier mic. It's awesome but going wireless would really help my outside videos. Thanks Tom. Looks like I'm getting the Diety wireless system. 🤘
I really like the Deity, and the fact it's cheaper AND comes with a mic is a no brainer for me.
Hmmmmm... this was super helpful! Really interesting and useful comparison. I really like that the Deity includes a lav and the screw in mic connector. Also, I think it sounds a bit fuller than the Rode (which I have and use LOTS). P.S. always amazed at how much our bodies attenuate radio signals!
I've always liked the Rode's sound, but I much prefer the Deity when they're played side by side.
Tom. Your instruction and videos are great, but your puns and jokes are what always keep me coming back. Really appreciate you brother. Thanks for doing your stuff ❤️
Thanks Adam! I'm so happy to hear that!
Ahh, every video you make is on point! Such relevant topics! I love it!
Awesome to hear that they’re helpful for you!
@@tombuck Always! its almost unnatural
Just wanted to say thank you for helping me make my final decision on which one to order.
I’m happy it was helpful! Hopefully you get the right thing for your workflow!
So glad you went down the rode of including so many puns on the go. Fantastic comparison 👌
Haha thanks Leo!
These people over here trying to own MY sky!
Tom, thank you for making this video .
I will be doing content outside and needed something like
This . Thank you so much I’m going with the Deity!!!
Nice! I’m glad it helped and I really really enjoy using the Deity!
@@tombuck good point. Will be ordering the Deity.
On another note, I love your studio. Looks awesome and love that blue color.
Sticky note labeling is the most real world experience of all 😁
@@tombuck 🤣
Your microphone reviews are next level!!
Thank you! I try to level up each time 😁
Hey Tom! This was epic. Your mic reports have taught me so much. I will never clip a lav on my collar again. Also the D.R. on your shirt made me think of Dominican Republic.
or "Dynamic Range"
It's totally ok to clip a mic on a collar if that's all you have, but the chest will typically give much more natural sound.
@@tombuck THANKS!!!
My very FIRST video is all about 3 simple resources for passing the 107 exam. It's old, but everything is still relevant!
@@tombuck ON it
Would love to see a video testing if the Rode Wireless Go 2 can work with the Roadcaster, and comparative sound.
If I ever get a Wireless Go 2 that sounds like a great idea!
Now you have to do a comparison between the Deity Pocket Wireless, the RODE Wireless GO II, and the DJi Mic that should be released soon.
Great review!! loving your long walk of audio cuts haha
It’s definitely a different beast. Plus consumer vs pro wireless systems are also VERY different.
I've had the Rode Wireless 1 & 2 and the second one makes huge leaps from the first model. I gotta admit that Deity Pocket Wireless for sure SOUNDS better imo tho. And that thread for the mics makes it stand out quite a bit. Good video!
I've heard nothing but great things about the Go 2, people seem to really love it!
And now you'll have to do this all over again with the DJI option. Bad timing, but still very informative!
But I chose the blue cover- I didn’t choose the square design 😉
Great test as usual! Thanks!
I hope it was helpful!
Both are very nice systems, but I´m VERY!! excited about the upcoming set from DJI, the DJI Mic System, lots of benefits over these systems......looks sooooooo cool.
That looks super interesting!
I’m happy my intros have made you introspective 😉
As for free vs. paid, if anything I would think that I'd be biased towards the one I paid for 😁
Would love to see a comparison with the new DJI wireless mic!
I really appreciate this review. Thanks so much!
Awesome video. I just got my first Sony mirrorless and I am in the market for a Pocket Mic. Thanks for making this.
Nice, congrats on the camera!
The backup audio is super cool. Definitely eliminated any worries about dropping a signal while recording.
11:18 haha thanks for that. As usual, very informative. Thanks Tom!
Honesty is a cornerstone on this channel 😁
Does Diety offer a 2-transmitter version? I'm considering the Rode Wireless Go 2 because having 2 transmitters is important for my application. Thanks for the helpful video!
They have some higher end wireless options, but the Pocket Wireless is currently only a single transmitter option.
@@tombuck Thank you for your response!
As always. Great review.
Thank you Mr. Tastic 🙏
Great video Tom. I couldn’t stop laugh after you pulled the plastic off the Deity. 😂.
Really the climax of the video. 😁
I don't think the drone remote was interfering, but that's actually an interesting point 🤔
My thought is that while it seemed like direct line of sight, there was a slight elevation change, so maybe that did something (along with me facing away from the receivers).
So much dopeness for one product video, I can’t
Are you calling me a dope?!

Great review Tom, I'm actually ordering the Deity today at this price point, with everything that comes with it, the analogue limiter and Deity quality how can you not? I have the D3 Pro & their original lav and Deity makes great stuff.
Glad it was helpful Jason! The Deity is awesome, and definitely a great deal since it comes with a really nice lav mic.

They're more expensive, but definitely worth it in the long run.
best explanation for omnidirectional I've ever heard! om - om - om - om. Made my day!
It’s really just science 🤷🏻♂️
I can't stop laughing HAHHA
Great vid and super informative Tom!
"You can seeity" lol love it.
I love this definitely getting the Diety now!
It's really great! I think they've done some cool stuff and made it super affordable.
You continue to put out quality videos, and dude you're seriously Tomlarious.
Thanks Bobby! It means a lot to hear that and it means even more that you'd develop an original pun for it 😁
Maybe check out the Hollyland Lark 150? I've been using it, seems pretty good, just don't have those other two so don't have a reference. Thanks!
That's a good recommendation- I've been really impressed with the Hollyland gear I've used so far.
YO Tom! Did you do anything different to your cameras?? They are looking mad sharp and crispy bruh!!
Nothing different, but thanks! I think I’m just getting a better handle on the Sony now that I’ve had it for a while.
@@tombuck Sweet!
Thanks Dean! I think I’m just getting the hang of the Sony now 😬
Actually, Rode is not the first to "kick off" this kind of small mic setup.
I actually am leaning towards the new DJI mic! 💯☺️
Looks great, but it is 2.5X the price.
But I will definitely consider the deity until I get the Dji maybe when rode makes the iii they’ll copy the AirPods case design which I love ❤️
You have the best reviews Tom u should be proud of all that work especially that intro 😍
Definitely looking for a ride alternative 🔥
Very helpful and great video! Two parts had me literally laugh out loud haha
1. The “paranoia and anxiety” comment
2. “Terms and stuff” hahaha 🤣
Love Thursday mornings!
Haha, thanks Scott! I aim to entertain. 😬
There are so many wireless mics with the charging station like Godox and Dji.
That's definitely a cool concept. 👍
Very good review, it helped me a lot
Man the Rode chops the low end off
Any chance the Deity has a safety track? Compared to Rode wireless go 2, and 32 bit float?
Not on this one, which is why I didn’t think it was a fair comparison to the Go II (but it’s also half the price 🤷🏻♂️)
The Deity sounds terrific. It has a warmer sound than the Rode, which surprised me. I expected a Rode 'chesty' sound!
Me too! I’ve always liked the Rode but in a side by side test, I prefer the Deity.
@@tombuck is the audio totally unprocessed? Can you tweak the Rode to sound more like what you prefer?
Interesting review. However ... Rode appeared relatively long ago. It is more interesting to compare with their second version. And so far, only they have the ability to create a backup on the transmitter.
The Go II is better, but it’s a dual transmitter system in a different price bracket, so the single transmitter systems made more sense to me to do as a direct comparison.
Ohhh is that the sennheiser shotgun mic??? (The $1000 one that sounds clearer than life lol)
I got a Synco kit for $50 that works perfectly fine!
back again almost a year later. any suggestions for wireless mics in 2022?
These are still the easiest to recommend. The DJI mic is also very popular, but I haven’t used it. If you’ve got the budget, a pro-level system like the Sennheiser G4 will put you into a different level.
@@tombuck thank you!
I'm curious how the Diety would compare to the Go II as that would be my purchase options.
They’re pretty different units since the Go II is twice the price, has two transmitters, and offers internal recording. The sound quality should be roughly the same though.
Hi Tom, does the diety reciver support two transmitters for situations when we need tow mics? I really like the sound of deity but I need two mics.
A single transmitter system. Maybe they’ll come out with a dual one at some point?
can I use these wireless mics for live streaming? if so, do they work well? thanks
Absolutely- you’ll just need to run them through some sort of interface. Although I THINK the Rode can be used with their Connect app 🤔
@@tombuck Thanks bro!
What's the difference between this deity wireless mic and the one they sell for almost $700?
The biggest differences are that the more expensive one is a truly professional two-transmitter system whereas this is a consumer level singles transmitter system.
The pro offering give more power options, better build quality, more reliability, and the option to fine tune and adjust channels/frequencies.
Can you plug a dynamic mic into these? I have an XLR to 1/8 in cable. I was wondering if this might be a good way for me to turn my SM58 into a wireless mic.
This is a really good question, so I just tried it with my SM57 and it did work! I don't know that it was the cleanest signal ever, but it worked.
As a person who does Audio Post and a lot of Dialogue Editing, i wouldn't want dialogue recorded through the diety
I'd be curious to know why. I prefer the sound of the Deity to the Rode in this case, but there was no post processing added.
@@tombuck The Rode sounds more natural, Diety has artificial Low End
Can you do a video on the Rode Videomic Go II?
It’ll be out on the 24th 👍
@@tombuck thank you!
Sometimes you just gotta film yourself from 4 rooms over 🤷🏻♂️
(you're totally right though, just about all of these will work well in most normal situations)
@@tombuck I wouldn’t expect anything less than a hilarious response from you 😂
The $30 and the Included Lav is really the hook, Rode should be ashamed of themselves always pulling an “Apple” pricing trick. 🤣
Does the wireless go 2 have better sound quality than the 1? Or same thing two receivers?
I haven't used the 2, but from what I've seen I think the sound is a little bit better.
@@tombuck that’s good. That deity sounds great tho! If they make one with two that’s be amazing
Nice thank u bro any other small mics
I've heard good things about the Comica, but I haven't used it myself. The Diety or Rode are my recommendations.
The upcoming Dji Mic looks better
I mean for 2.5X the price it should be better.
Can you buy a second transmitter for the Deity?
Cheers!

I spy a new overhead shotgun mic too 👀
Haha, it’s the Deity S-Mic 2, which felt appropriate for this. It’s not actually great for doing videos in this room since it’s more of a traditional shotgun.
