The room took each person in a fitting way.
Roma, who seemed to be the most scientific and rational was destroyed by the room when his rationality met the irrational and it took his mind.
Uncle Kolya, for whom family loyalty was important, was sacrificed to the room when family loyalty was weighed against the survival of his nephew. He lost.
Yegor was working to secure a successful future, the room took that away from him. His future was ruined so he entered of his own will. He had nothing left to lose.
It seems The EXIT finds the weakness of each person and uses it for its own advantage.

    • @Meagain1
      @Meagain1 3 года назад +46

Allow me to introduce an alternative conception:
The first guy, who entered the exit, was then teleported back. After that, he kept saying that this place was not for him. The fact that the room didn't take him and let him go, might mean, that it didn't have any interest in this person. However, the guy is excited to go there again, and so he enters the exit for the second time, but it throws him out, as if it doesn't want him to be there.
The next night the exit immediately grabs Yegor, which is completely opposite to Roma, who was rejected by it. Then Mickhalich tries to help, and so it takes him instead.
After that we find out, that Mickhalich was also rejected by the room and teleported back. He keeps saying that this place was not for him and that he mustn't enter it.
And eventually, he says "Your exit, Yegor" and then the room appears right in front of Yegor as if inviting him, unlike with other characters, whom it didn't accept. Yegor enters it, and we hear a sound, as if the exit is fading, while growing back the wall on which it appeared.
So, in my opinion, Yegor was the "target" for the exit all along. The room wasn't meant for the other two characters, it was only for him. And he is the only one, for whom the word "exit" makes sense.
It also may be, that both our theories are correct, and the room was trying to absorb Yegor, while manipulating the feelings of the characters and using weak points in their morality

I think they are all dead and are ghosts already. They never interact with anyone else except the girlfriend who never moves. She could be a lingering regret that has followed Yegor into the afterlife and the "Closet/Exit" is actually the gate to move on in the afterlife. Yegor's family is there to help but it isn't their exit. They are essentially haunting the construction site and unable to figure it out. Just my guess at this. Every explanation just makes me want to know more. This needs to be a full movie.

That was wickedly disturbing. The idea of a room that defies physics this way was ripe for horror. Then how the journey into the dark changes you was extremely effective.
There was'also the horror of the futility and helplessness of the situation which is unnerving and relentless.
There is a Lovecraft feel from the idea that the three men somehow tapped into an ancient evil.
I loved how we never see what is in the dark abyss as that gives the viewer their own viewpoint of the horror that awaits and is hidden.
Congratulations to Ivan Basov, the cast and crew. The creeps were delivered in spades.

Very well done. The writing gave us just enough information to allow us to form the logic and rules of the situation but not so much that it eliminated the mystery. There was a relationship between the 3 men which added weight to the importance of what was happening to them and gave us reason to care. The acting was great and the overall production work was also quite good. Personally, I felt the moment of understanding at just the right time near the end, as if the meaning itself had finally escaped the mysterious darkness just like Roma and Uncle. It did not feel like 20 minutes. Wonderful work all around. I hope you and your team continue to create new work.

I liked it quite a bit. Loved the story and premise and the mystery. We were given all the right amount of information without any massive exposition dumps. We learn about the characters without being told the traits explicitly. My only critiques is there are 2 moments in this movie that don't feel like genuine human interactions and they're put there just to further suspense. When Yegor walks slowly up behind Roma- a natural human response to your friend disappearing into a void for an unknown amount of time and then showing up would be to run to them, or at least be more animated with ur reaction. This sacrifices realism for suspense but in result of that it takes u a bit out of the world. The other scene is when Yegor brings his uncle outside to talk separately- this doesn't make any sense and is done obviously so Roma can disappear suddenly.
By no means is this a bad film; I very much enjoyed this one. Usually I only have specific critiques for movies I really like.

Man, yes! If we had the means, I'd also absolutely love to go full-hardcore into the technical reality of it. Would be awesome! But, it's a short story with it's own rhythm and a great degree of suspension of disbelief, so we had to make choices that felt right at the time.

If I understand this correctly, no light would illuminate what lies there, because it basically sucks the light like a black hole.

@@olegkapaev9412 Yezz. The idea was that light cannot penetrate the "border", but once you're past the limit, it functions properly. This works both for suspense and saving the budget. Obviously, if I had more money, I would love to take us past the border and into the impossible unknown.

This gave me major foreboding feelings. I felt like it was a cross of Pan's Labrynth and Insidious. I thought both of which were amazing films in their own right. The thing I hated most was that noise...I don't know how you did that so effectively. I hated the noise but that's a compliment because you nailed that sound in that dark place that just icks you out. The thing I loved most was how the spiritual and the physical worlds seemed to be connected through that dark hallway. Like the path takes you to unknown places and you can't figure out how it came to be but the Uncle is respected though he cares more about money than doing the right thing (or is it the right thing cuz he has people he is looking after?) and he is trusted but then not but still followed...case in point when he is stroking the head of the one boy and saying it's best to bury the dead guy in the wall. And the part where the guy kicks the uncle it just felt to me like he is saving himself but instead of just saving himself he deliberately sacrifices someone else...and it felt like the becoming a bigger monster which sometimes happens when people get sick of being manipulated but don't know how to just walk away. So much more I am dwelling about this but not sure how to state it all right now. For now, I love that it was a slow burn and really built momentum until we felt we too were being thrown into and stuck into that dark pathway.
