Wow. As a psychologist I really liked this movie. This short film describes perfectly the horror we can experience in our inner world.. It talks about loneliness and depression. Depressed people need someone who loves them and helps them with their deep guilt. The problem is that the more you are involved in your guilt, the less you are effectively able to get a connection with another human being. Every feedback on the relationship (also with real costructive intention) is seen as an abandonment. The more they feel abandoned, the more they can act out aggressively. And then they feel guilty, and they get more depressed. They are unable to repair conflicts because they are so fullfilled by their guilt: they can’t move their attention from their own emotions to the emotions of somebody else. As the guy, that instead of using his guilt to repair the relationship with his sister, closed the door and used it to committ suicide. The solution can be about learning to repair. It can be hard, but it is possible.
For me the guest is the allegory of the emotion that comes to visit us when we are depressed. Someone perceives it as anguish, someone as sadness, someone as apathy, but actually in depth it is an infinite guilt. A fault that - until unconscious - seems impossible to overcome. Since it is so big, only something equally big could wash it away (like suicide: you kill yourself to get out of the way, because you are useless to life, because you are all wrong, because you are a burden to the people you love). The girl does not see the guest in the room - I mean at the end of the film - because she has not yet realized that her brother is dead. But the last memory she has of him is of the time she treated him badly. I think she'll see it.
@@EleonoraAlecci-vf6dh Your answer is very touching and makes you think, I really respect your work as a psychologist, because you are the one who helps people with emotions that represent the guest❤️
The guest represents the depression of the people who are feeling suicidal, like in part one of this, people in comments were saying how the guest is the one who makes the suicidal people rethink abt their actions and want to start to 0
the guest doesn't seem evil, i think it just helps you realize weather you really want life or death and in Eathans case when it truly was death that he wanted it was there for him to comfort him in his last moments
Stop it rn, I remember being 16 and seeing the first part for the first time, and it's exactly what made me love short horror films, you have no idea how excited this makes me 🫶
I think the guest helps you realize if you truly want to die or help you realize life is not as bad as you think and find a reason to start living , he only arrives in deep depression when you contemplating on living or dying
I got very inspired with the movie! He has eyes with no lids, nor tears He has fingers but no nails nor prints. He has a mouth, but not speaks, He feels sorrow but cannot heals. All he can do is being there for you, When you desperately in need of Feel someone near you. Where ever he goes, despair follows. Sometimes it ends On the gallows...
I genuinely believe this is one of the most heart-wrenching pieces of media I've ever experienced. I came in expecting some adrenaline and jump scares and I was left staring at the credits scene, tears quite literally flowing down my face. This film obviously isn't as deep as I make it out to be to everyone, but in my eyes it is one of the most eerily perfect ways to depict the fear, hatred, acceptance, and hopelessness suicidal thoughts bring, and how they can effect other people too. I'm by no means a film critic, but I could spend hours talking to anyone who listens about how the guest, in my eyes, represents both suicidal thoughts and the arms of death that claim those who act on them. This specific thought is mostly driven by the differences in how Mia and Mary interacted with him versus how Ethan did. Mia and Mary both seem to have resorted to their attempts because of their terror at the presence of the guest- the suicidal thoughts. Ethan, however, doesn't seem to fear him, implying how he'd accepted his actions completely, and even found comfort in the thoughts themselves- the hug scene absolutely *devastated* me and I had to replay it nearly twenty times before I could let myself move on. Another topic I'm having to limit myself on how much I ride about is the guest himself. His appearance is, honestly speaking, an absolutely perfect way to represent suicidal thoughts. The way his sudden appearance feels like a punch in the gut is *exactly* how these thoughts can feel. My reaction to the thoughts, and possibly other people's too, is a feeling or helplessness. It feels a bit like a rug has been pulled from my feet or, like the reactions to the guest, I've been socked in the stomach. The accuracy of the depiction of this feeling in the film never fails to astound me, even months after I watched it for the first time. And honestly, the only genre truly fit to depict what suicide truly feels like can only be horror, which this film shows amazingly. I know I tend to get far too moved by films that others simply shrug off, but I will never stop loving the feeling of connecting the dots and the whole movie seemingly opening up to me, even if the theories I create are wrong. Any assumptions I've made or conclusions I've jumped to could easily be nothing more than incorrect rambling, but my interpretation of this film comforts me in a way that nothing else has yet to do. The complexity of the characters, the enhancement the cinematography offers, the timing of the music- it all comes together to wrap up into what I have seen to be a harrowing, devastating, and eye-opening film hidden underneath the guise of being a horror film. 10/10, have already and will continue to recommend.
As someone who suffers from clinic depression this film hit me where i wasn't expecting at the time of writing this im halfway through it But this film was amazing and as someone who's only friend is my partner i understand the pain, i wish their was more representation of mental health like this... sometimes all we need is a shoulder to lean on but most see depression as annoying or lazy, again amazing work
why people aren't subscribing him? wtf. don't you think this level of content production requires tremendous amount of hardwork. The bare minimum help we can do this guy is just by subscribing
i honestly think that the guest is a representation of some entity that either helps bring people to the afterlife or helps their struggle, whether that be a god or not
Really this didn't make me scared at all... more just sad. In the first short film there was more disturbance to me, but this just felt heartbreaking to watch. It's truly beautiful though, and a heart wrenching way to portray all these dark feelings all of us have at some point. We can't get rid of it, not really, not in the way we wish we could. That's how I view it anyway. Wonderful work though, there were so many small details I appreciated, especially the change in lighting that would happen from yellows to blues very quickly, yet subtly. I can tell it was made with a lot of love and it shows in the film! Much love, stay safe
I LOVED this. I remember watching the first one a few years ago with one of my friends and coming up with our own theories on what was going on with the guest. It was and still is one of my favorite things floating around on youtube and I'm so glad I've stumbled across Guest 2. I like how the first one had a lot of mystery that we could put together, and how it was more horror based, as this one we grow attached to the characters and learn more about them as we come to realize the Guests presence. its more clear in this one that it's a resemblance of depression and i really adore that. Aside from jokes, mental health isn't spoke about too much. I was hoping to see in depth analysis' on this in the comments, but there are people pointing out how this isn't the typical horror they like. I LOVE THIS AND I THINK JILL AND MIA ARE ADORABLE (is it bad i lowkey ship them?) regardless i love this, i love you and your crew's work SM!!!
This film made me subscribe. Finn definitely needs more support. I feel channels like these that make films don't get enough subscribers and Finn is a perfect example of that, making beautiful creations only for some to end up seeing them. Keep it up and you might just grow big!
Such a moving short film, brought me to tears, hit very close to home. Jennifer English is my favourite human, so raw and so breathtaking! Can’t wait to see Jennifer in future films!
I feel like the Guest makeup effects look worse than the original short. The original looks more "fake", but it gives it this unsettling quality, while this version looks more cartoony and downright goofy at times. But the story? M'wa! Chef's kiss! The characters felt genuine and sympathetic, their troubles felt equally genuine, felt like real mental health problems than a stereotypically villainizing or hollywood glamourising that a lot of depictions get. Jill and Mias coffeeshop date was so well acted, with good, believably-awkward dialogue. The conversation about the platypus joke was sweet, and the little aborted finger touch was an adorable moment. The camera work was really good, particularly the slow panning shots that built tension well! The use of the Guest as a representation of trauma/depression was done very well, especially at the end when Ethan "embraces" his depression and takes his life. It shows how those thoughts and feelings can act as a comfort to those at that point. It isn't malevolent, nor is it beneficial. It simply is. Ethan chooses to embrace it, in a final act if self destruction. Mia struggles trying to live with it, rejecting both it and, being a manifestation of a part of her, herself too. The first one was definitely more of a horror, that hinted at a deeper meaning. This one is less of a horror, but it's story is far more engaging and connects far deeper.
I loved these short films. Thanks to this I look forward at my dark past, that past when I was blind due to the depression. Watched the first Guest yesterday and had the idea, there's more to the story. Struggling for words right now after watching this. I feel good these days, even though I lost my job, but... I'm Mia. And Ethan. Apart from the last consequence, but I've been there. I know the guest. For many years. And I've been Jill as well. That's what made me Ethan. Does that make sense? This is horror only to the ones who know. Yet the guest feels like a part of my life, though I'm scared, he may return at one point. I assume, my depression now has a face. With somehow adorable subtitles. Anyway, thank you for this amazing film, to everyone. Incredible actors, incredible script.
Poor girl she was very sweet actually. So many people out there feel miserable and end up in bad situations because of others not because of them. Most of them are actually charming and beautiful. Sometimes we all need a friend. Just someone who's there next to us. Never be mean to someone for no reason
this was so good i think it's such a good representation of struggling with mental illness it can be a genuinely terrifying experience sometimes and you feel like you're going insane and nobody else understands i love that we see the two mcs find some level of comfort in each other though one thing that struck me was the joke at the coffee shop and how sometimes when you go down you drag others down with you...
I felt like the different eyes you used for The Guest took me out of it a bit too much. The original eyes looked painted on, these eyes look more fake/plastic/cgi(?), and lopsided, which made The Guest look more goofy (at least, compared to the original). Other than that this was an amazing piece! I loved the atmosphere the story made, the anguish mixed with moments of happiness. Well done!
"hey you want to act in my short horror film as the antagonist" "sure what do i have to do?" "Just put on these goggles and stand there menacingly" but jokes aside obviously that guy is portraying depression and i love how you show that it can get to everyone and it is hard to get rid of..
As a bg3 fan I was definitely not expecting to see Jennifer English here I was so shocked I was all like "man that sounds like shadow heart oh man she looks like Jennifer English OMG IS THAT JENNIFER ENGLISH!?"
I knew the guest was a good guy from the first one I feel so bad for how people treated him just because of how he looked he had no friends and he wanted to help people that are depressed and sad I knew he was a good guy
Watching this now, James. Saw you a few times so far. I'm so proud of you, my friend, and hope this helps you achieve your greater goals. Much love brother
I think that that Slenderman rip off (aka guest) represents the mental health/mental illness the person has. As it seems Mia suffers properly from Depression(+sh) an3 Ethan probably too just with the extra package: Su!c!de.Him at the end hugging guest, represents the "giving up". I usually talk with "myself" the same as ethan did. In the Guest 1,Mary or what her name was, seemed to suffer from traumatic events or something like that. Her stabbing her ear and bleaching the eye, seems like she just didn't want to see or hear things, that could remind her. Guest sitting at the bed at the end, represents the in her eyes "failure" of trying to run away from your trauma/problems.
Sheeeesh. That’s… this whole thing was pretty brutal- not sure how I felt (which might be the point?) about the middle cafe meeting bit. Also the subtitles made me laugh lol the Guest is very expressive. Im late to the game but excited to see the next one!
How lucky am I to have just like 20 minutes ago found the first movie and then he just so happened to make a sequel two months ago! That's what you call lucky cuz I could have waited years for this damn thing
Please make a 3rd film so Angus can finally be happy. He just seems like he's a fella who wants others to be happy and they just keep having breakdowns in front of him.
Ok at first I was thinking it maybe schizophrenia, but then when the brother also saw it, I feel its depression rearing its ugly face again. But I could be wrong. But thats what I am thinking as I never saw the first.
This is really not a horror movie. More like a psychological drama. The original The Guest was scarier than this one was because you didn’t exactly know what she wanted. The main character mutilated herself even though The Guest was more of an observer than anything else. I think that The Guest wants to be your friend and listen to your problems. I love these but I wouldn’t really define them totally as horror. Can’t wait until you release the next one.
Jennifer English was superb, Natasha Biggs was astounding. Broke my heart. Natasha puts in a performance that was on a par with Kate Dickie, one of my favourite actors. Raw and uncompromising. Finn, this is a work of genius. I look forward, with trepidation, to your next work. Well done Sir 👏👏👏
This is horribly depressing but it is not horror. The true horror here is that I still have 3 hours of homework to do and I'm watching short films instead.
Not many things make me cry, but this came close to it. Like seriously. The scene where her friend hung up on her. I felt that. This went CRAZY. Awesome work. 👍
i love how the beginning only hits you with a pang after watching all the short throughout. at my first watch, i thought it was just a callback to how the first Guest started. i even found it a tad boring, like reciclying or rehashing something. needless to say, i am now pleasantly forced to swallow back such impression.
at first when i saw there was a guest 2 i was worried it would warp what i took away from the first one (which i loved). but at my best friend's request, we gave it a shot, and aaaahhh... you've done it again. crying in the club once more. it's such a painful yet beautiful universe you've crafted here and i will definitely be returning when the guest does, as someone who has a guest myself. thank you for making these wonderful (yet spooky!) films
@@EvidentlyFire he's metaphorical! I don't obviously see a creature in the corner or anything like that, but rather, the guest is that painful thought or feeling I can't shake no matter how hard I try.
I feel this I was sad for a while and one day I met a loving and caring friend that I wouldn’t replace for the world she really understands me and that will keep guest away for now💛💜❤️
I finished guest and I'm almost done with guests two and I can't get over how funny the subtitles are when home slices on screen they just give different faces and it's hilarious😂😂
Guest 1 was far more scarier than this as we didn't know the concept, yet in this one there is a better message about deppression and sucidental thoughts.

"sure what do i have to do?"
"Just put on these goggles and stand there menacingly"
but jokes aside obviously that guy is portraying depression
and i love how you show that it can get to everyone and it is hard to get rid of..
subtitles in this movie is the best thing I've ever seen
Heyyy I shot this film 🎥
yippie!
@@fyodorhoutheusen4841 that's really cool imo
came for the psychological horror, stayed for jennifer english
As a bg3 fan I was definitely not expecting to see Jennifer English here I was so shocked I was all like "man that sounds like shadow heart oh man she looks like Jennifer English OMG IS THAT JENNIFER ENGLISH!?"
Jennifer did such an amazing job! Quite an emotional film, thank you for making it available for all to watch.
I knew the guest was a good guy from the first one I feel so bad for how people treated him just because of how he looked he had no friends and he wanted to help people that are depressed and sad I knew he was a good guy
If the guest only arrives when feeling depressiin or Lonely then he might as well come by every day at my house 🧍♂️
Watching this now, James. Saw you a few times so far. I'm so proud of you, my friend, and hope this helps you achieve your greater goals. Much love brother
Part one has traumatised me for a while, but i love it
I think that that Slenderman rip off (aka guest) represents the mental health/mental illness the person has.
I KNEW I RECOGNISED THAT VOICE JENNIFER MY BELOVED
I HAVE BEEN WAITING 2 YEARS FOR GUEST 2 IT'S FINALLY HERE
Unique. Brilliant. Haunting. Food for thought. Thank you. ❤
it is so beautiful yet heartbreaking that the most replayed moment is the hug scene
Meanwhile no one realizing this girl is who plays shadowheart in baldurs gate 3 🔥edit: great horror short also, very unsettling yet beautiful
SHADOWHEART!!!
Hey, that's exactly what my panic attacks are. "It's always there, waiting."
Great job. It's definitely less of a horror film. It did make me tear up at the end.
Y'all did a great jon, I'm waiting for part 3 Guest!!
The hug scene is everything, I am crying my eyes out ❤️❤️❤️
I love the lil shout out to Sam and Colby with they're X beanie on the blonde crying in one of the other rooms
loved the captions
Sheeeesh. That’s… this whole thing was pretty brutal- not sure how I felt (which might be the point?) about the middle cafe meeting bit. Also the subtitles made me laugh lol the Guest is very expressive. Im late to the game but excited to see the next one!
I simply love all of Alter's films (horror), 🎥. The best genre for me.
Jennifer English was amazing in this.
Dude you are the only one I seen talk about her being in this! I can't believe the voice actress of shadowheart was in this! So coo!
@@dressionep I know right! I think she's got a new movie she's in as well. Very talented actor for sure.
What an annoying ringtone
How lucky am I to have just like 20 minutes ago found the first movie and then he just so happened to make a sequel two months ago! That's what you call lucky cuz I could have waited years for this damn thing
We all need a Guest in our lives :(
Please make a 3rd film so Angus can finally be happy. He just seems like he's a fella who wants others to be happy and they just keep having breakdowns in front of him.
are we not gonna talk about Jill and Mia?? like omg 27:01
Talk what about them
Ok at first I was thinking it maybe schizophrenia, but then when the brother also saw it, I feel its depression rearing its ugly face again. But I could be wrong. But thats what I am thinking as I never saw the first.
I think the guest represents depression
Same
That's symbolism, not actually a theory.
@@haroldmatthews-duggan4435 oh I will change it thanks for letting me know
or schizophrenia (the voices)
@@danstormy that was one of the previous theories, but we get more of an idea that the guest represents depression and the giving up.
ngl the og was better. Dont get me wrong, its really impresive still and i rly love it
This is really not a horror movie.
Pas mal le short horror film guest 2😊j'ai adoré le premier 😊
Honestly ur entire crew did an astonishing job with this ✨
This is horribly depressing but it is not horror. The true horror here is that I still have 3 hours of homework to do and I'm watching short films instead.
Not many things make me cry, but this came close to it. Like seriously. The scene where her friend hung up on her. I felt that. This went CRAZY. Awesome work. 👍
I love the way it comes full circle. This is amazing
Commenting so this marvellous short film gets recommended to others
i love how the beginning only hits you with a pang after watching all the short throughout. at my first watch, i thought it was just a callback to how the first Guest started. i even found it a tad boring, like reciclying or rehashing something. needless to say, i am now pleasantly forced to swallow back such impression.
at first when i saw there was a guest 2 i was worried it would warp what i took away from the first one (which i loved). but at my best friend's request, we gave it a shot, and aaaahhh... you've done it again. crying in the club once more. it's such a painful yet beautiful universe you've crafted here and i will definitely be returning when the guest does, as someone who has a guest myself. thank you for making these wonderful (yet spooky!) films
You know having visual hallucinations is not a common symptom for mental illness. It is infact extremly rare. What guest do you have?
@@EvidentlyFire he's metaphorical! I don't obviously see a creature in the corner or anything like that, but rather, the guest is that painful thought or feeling I can't shake no matter how hard I try.
I have been waiting for this for so long and can’t wait!! Way to go Finn! Can’t wait to deep dive into this one!
So proud of the work we've done! Greetings from Horrortown mayor xD
Hence the special thanks in the credits :)
@@finncallanI love your video so much ❤
I feel this I was sad for a while and one day I met a loving and caring friend that I wouldn’t replace for the world she really understands me and that will keep guest away for now💛💜❤️
Wow, absolutely fantastic vibe. Uncomfortable throughout, powerful film.
Right as the mia chick said she "i can't deal with it anymore" my notification tone play ans it said. "Set your heart ablaze" lmao
I finished guest and I'm almost done with guests two and I can't get over how funny the subtitles are when home slices on screen they just give different faces and it's hilarious😂😂
Everyone who didn’t know I just figured this out that the main girl is the same that voices shadowheart from bauldersgate 3
I knew i wasnt crazy lmao i was hearing it aswell
i think that project is so successful. i watch it with my best friends forever snd we laughter at guest. this is so funny.
37:08 I thought it was bad but it’s kinda good
i cannot tell you how much i love this. wow. Amazing ! 👏🏾 and so moving
Guest 1 was far more scarier than this as we didn't know the concept, yet in this one there is a better message about deppression and sucidental thoughts.
The guest is so skrunkly I love him sm
Horror Short Film❌
Sad Short Film✅
Everyone breaking down in the worst mental state
*The Guest:* 👁👄👁
That was a hell of a take on addiction. Man, really well done. Bravo!
